remember Zcash is an 'evolution' of Zerocoin, but imo this quote is significant because the same guy is heavily involved in both projects.
At the same time Zcash went from 3 month ROI for a 1080ti like a week ago to 5.8 months now, and that's pre-energy costs. Probably closer to 7.5 months ROI now with energy costs, so the enthusiasm for Zcash mining has now died down a lot.

link to download? I searched "monero wallet" on the google play store and it has something from Freewallet.org. I installed it. Now it wants me to log in with google+, facebook, or my phone number. That doesn't make sense to me. Where do I download the legit wallet? Edit: I see from some recent posts on reddit that the wallet is still being coded. So for now I'm sticking with GnuRootDebian.

I'm not sure - maybe someone else will chime in. Here's what I do know: if you search the reddit threads, there are lots of people claiming to have lost XMR while using Freewallet. So, we try to warn people. As for reporting to Google, I haven't looked into this but I'm not sure they would do anything because Freewallet does disclose that your private keys are accessible to them, and also because Monero transactions are private so if they did take money, it couldn't be traced. It's like a person giving the key to their house to the bad apple neighbor and calling the police if something ends up missing.

AlphaBay disappearing having any effect on XMR... you guys think?
They are not disappearing. Whatever the problem they have stated that they are restarting their servers. So... what's the REAL lowdown here? Contrary to initial 'optimisim' is AlphaBay really dead now, or still coming back, or likely to be a honeypot now, or gonna be suspected to be honeypot and DEAD anyway, even IF it does attempt to come back 'legitimately'...? Personally I've never been on it, no interest in shopping for what's sold there at all, but I'm still interested overall in its existence INSOFAR AS IT HELPS MONERO GET A GOOD FOOTHOLD FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD WHO ALSO NEEDS FUNGIBILITY IN OUR FUTURE DIGITAL CRYPTO!!! Seems like the people replying in the alphabay reddit clear-net sub, to the poster saying it's an exit scam for sure, are being knee-jerk hostile perhaps only because they do not want to believe it's true... "whistling past the graveyard" as it were...? Or, on the other hand, it also occurred to me that the guy who is SAYING he was able to DOXX the site operator via tracking a bitcoin payment from cold storage address, to his exchange account and real identity, MAY BE JUST A COVER STORY TO PUT PEOPLE OFF THE SCENT OF A.B. BEING TAKEN DOWN, IN FACT, BY THE ZCASH BACK-DOOR... Hmm... hmm indeed...

MAY BE JUST A COVER STORY TO PUT PEOPLE OFF THE SCENT OF A.B. BEING TAKEN DOWN, IN FACT, BY THE ZCASH BACK-DOOR... It's called 'constructive knowledge', and is used e.g. when the source of probable cause for a search is such as would disclose methods of evidence collection which LEO'S prefer not to disclose in open court. Sometimes such methods are unlawful.

AFA AB coming back, I highly doubt it as from what I've read in the past they have always gone into damage control and posted everything was fine when they were down in the past but just dead silence this time. That feels to me like they are scrambling, I wouldn't doubt they were on that HA server that got nailed.

Such parallel construction methods are antithetical to the Right of Due Process, which requires the accused be able to confront his accusers and examine the legal soundness of their methodology. In common law, there is no exception for "LEO preference to not disclose in open court." The powers that be have construed such an exception for their convenience and financial gain (Fed. Judge salary >$200,00k) but in their hearts they know they should be absolutely terrified of the fate that awaits them (and their innocent spouses+children) once the proverbial Saxon is angry. When BTC and XMR hit $100k/coin, there is going to so much remedial self-help Justice dished out that .gov won't be able to pay its robed whores, revenue extraction specialists, and King's men enough to make their overwhelmingly hazardous job conditions worthwhile.

Guys, please be careful for the fake wallets. It's the new version of scamming people. Besides, I'm still mining monero and I'm very glad. I sell 50% of the mined monero and keep the rest.

Are there other ones besides freewallet? Everything should be considered compromised unless you can prove it is not. For practical purposes checking the hash from a trusted source is "good enough".

Either AB was busted by tracing a BTC xn (the official story), or by a ZEC backdoor (suspected only because both Wilcox and Green have alluded to unpublished methods of gaining xn details responsive, e.g., to a warrant). Either way it is bad news for XMR in the near term, and good news for XMR in the long term.
The bad news is that XMR can't gain monetary value by gaining share on AB any more, and that every time the leading DNM gets busted, BTC trends down (and XMR is often correlated, i.e. has very high beta to BTC).
The good news is that DNMs are growing in size and xn volume, becoming more sophisticated, more secure, and adopting XMR. All it takes is one guy using a KYC compliant exchange, or one lucky backdoored xn, and your whole house comes down. There is no way on God's green earth that I would let anyone take any BTC home from a DNM under my watch. You can let the rubes transact in BTC, if they insist, but the management MUST NEVER TOUCH BTC. All payouts must be in XMR. That means the market needs to accumulate XMR reserves. Which means it is in the interest of management to encourage, if not require sales transacted in XMR. So it is doubly bullish, with growing reserve reducing supply, and a simultaneous growing xn demand.
On that reasoning, I am taking advantage of the dip, for which I am truly thankful.
