I dont know what is this? I hope not any joke. LOL of course it's a joke... WTF else u expect it could be? "Market crash and scam accusations included free of charge with every production" ... Fluffy bein' Fluffy. or OTOH I mean it's for the real party planned at DefCon, if that's what you were asking? That's really happening from what I can gather, not a joke. Unfortunately doesn't look like I'll be able to get there, unless I get a wild hair up my ass the night before and just blow out to Vegas on a standby flight or something: wouldn't be the first time that's happened LOL... really wish I was going, so, yeah, maybe it'll happen this time (shhhh don't tell my wife LOL)

... If we want the wider world to start taking Monero seriously, we need to bid farewell to the numerous in-jokes and historical references that few understand.
Is it true? No. I'm talking bananas. you guys should really stop talking bananas and trolling your own coin holder, be more professional like Dash if you want mass adoption by the wider world. Billy Bunters bananas was I guess only irony for Hueristics question which also was possibly irony. Billys points of in-jokes and historical references instead are true. Only insiders understand such. Such jokes must be left behind. At least outside of this thread. Even Monero could be the best coin technology available, that is not a reason to tell jokes about it. Because outsiders really do not understand them. I am serious about this. Just like noobtrader is. I got to disagree with the jokes... a community also needs inside jokes ... inside jokes are a little sample of what holds together a community... its part of the minting of a community

Marketing is definitely something that's needed, but I agree that the need for it now is "not much." Monero has come a long way and to us who've used it for a long time, it's user-friendly, especially with the GUI. But "user-friendly" for the average joe means "mobile." After multisig is released and especially after mobiles are released, then it would be the time to increase marketing.
By "marketing" I don't mean cheezy cult-like media like Dash churns out, but just simply letting people know what Monero is and how it can help them. The good news is that u/Rehar and others on reddit are already taking this on and have done a good job, including the getmonero.org redesign. I think they'll do a good job when those other features are released. If this is something of interest to you or if you can help, hop on reddit and send Rehar a note.

But at what point do we stop being a 'community' and start being a global currency? Because it might be the case that we have to leave one behind - or, at least, aspects of it - in order to become the other.

Here’s Why "Don’t Buy Monero" Should Now Be Retired.
It is still reasonable general audience advice. In one interview, I heard fluffypony add something to effect of "If you are an extreme speculator then sure go ahead and speculate". For anyone else, the advice is perfectly okay. This is not a proven asset, it isn't in a proven asset class. There can be bugs that completely destroy the currency. [...] If you tell people to not buy Monero, especially with a big fluffy smile after a great Monero presentation, it might have the opposite effect as what Fluffy tries to achieve. Instead I would suggest to not talk about the Monero price at all (but about the technology and developments in the space instead) and just not give any investment advice at all (to buy or not to buy).

I believe that XMR has a good chance to become a great currency on the planet. However, right now, people seem not really like XMR and let the prices keep failing down. I wish that XMR will become more important in the future

As for "extreme speculators", I question how many people really are that. Extreme speculator to me, means that you know that your investment has a significant chance to lose all or most of its value and accept that when buying in. That takes significant financial and emotional preparation and resources. How many people here on the speculation thread raise a stink and declare XMR dead every time the price drops by 20-30% (still 70-80% less of a drop than the the full-loss scenario)? What happens when we see a 90% drop, as has happened to XMR before, and to BTC multiple times? How about, "If you are going to be upset when your investment loses 20-30% of its value (not to mention 90% or more), then don't buy Monero"? In practice that's going to be the same thing for most of the audience. By extreme speculators it means active traders who actually know what they're doing in a highly volatile market. If you think about it, as high as 90% of the people who buy and sell crypto only has a very small idea of what they're doing, which, for the most part, causes these huge swings. It's good for the 'extreme speculators' because that's where their profit comes from.

What they think or if they just bluff. If their words have merit, community will trust them. If their words are bluff ofcourse community will laughs with and at them. You are free to tell anyone you want buy more Monero. But you have zero rights to tell someone to stop saying to people to not buy any Monero.

The shorter period of time they have held the more they moan about how their bag hasn't made them rich yet. Let the ICO crowd mentality run back to the scam crowd and yell moon all day. The sooner they learn that this project is real and not some get rich quick scheme the better for all involved.

I'd say the point is not to start yelling "BUY, BUY, BUY!!!" but to stop or at least diminish the amount of negative statements regarding purchasing Monero by core team members. I would hope by this time that we/they would have a certain level of confidence in the quality of the code and yes, there is always a possibility that we find a serious bug but overall, my understanding is that the code quality is excellent, especially when compared to most projects. If it's not up to that level yet, then when could we expect that? What are the criteria we are using to measure that? And, can we or should we prioritize our development to make it more stable before piling more features on top of it?
