1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin vs XRP? on: May 13, 2023, 08:06:15 AM
The price bias is driving your decision to lean towards XRP. Bitcoin has been around longer than any cryptocurrency which is in use now and has had better price appreciation, to several thousands of times it's initial price, it is only normal that the price would not multiply as it used to in the very early years and this would push investors to try to catch the next coin early on and benefit from it.

I would always pick Bitcoin for more reasons than just the price, it's the one of the only few decentralized coins, with the highest level of security, making it the best choice for long term investment, around 10 - 15 years or more, I cannot bank on any other coin which is in circulation now to remain in circulation at that time.
1022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When You Can Hear The Pin Drop on: May 05, 2023, 07:38:17 AM
The natural progression of most bitcoiners at that time was from skepticism to curiosity, to shock and then awe or enthusiasm. Some would toggle back and forth between curiosity and skepticism as the price rose and fell until it gained some sort of balance in terms of price and adoption.
Bitcoin was a bold move by Satoshi, a brilliant one, but also brave cause it challenged the laid down order of the financial system, not everyone could immediately share that daring idea until they saw some sort of physical proof in the form of historical price data.

It doesn't matter what price you bought at, what matters is when you actually understood Bitcoin, there were many who found out about Bitcoin as far back as 2010 and bought some but couldn't hold for any significant price profit, cause they did not understand it at the time.

1024  Other / Meta / Re: How possible is selfmeriting ? on: May 02, 2023, 04:59:06 AM
"You cannot send merit to yourself"

This is the prompt you get if you try to merit yourself. Whilst the option is there, it's impossible to send merit to your own profile.
1025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin thief who stole $5M worth of crypto sentenced to 4 years in prison on: May 01, 2023, 08:37:45 PM
A dollar thief is just as ridiculous a phrase as Bitcoin thief is. Articles and blogs make these loose associations to make their topic title catchy and maybe attract a bit of the cryptocurrency audience.

If could also be a ploy by the government to associate Bitcoin as much as possible to scams which should dissuade people from using it if they were considering it. Whichever it is, we should not promote their low impact financial policies targeted against bitcoin and their role in finance freedom.
1026  Other / Meta / Re: Ban appeal [Legendary] - 4 years passed on: May 01, 2023, 07:24:48 PM
4 years is enough time to get over it. There has been very few cases of bans getting overturned that it makes it very improbable that yours would be, especially considering the circumstances leading to it

I'll vote for more leniency in the handling of banned users and the finality of their absence from the forum, a four or five year ban seems like deterrent enough and also leaves a small window to allow such users back into the forum after a while, if they are still interested at the time.
But my vote does not change the system.
1027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't regular flash drives store Bitcoin on: May 01, 2023, 06:51:42 PM
Trust wallet is a non-custodian wallet and not a custodian wallet per say,
They claim to be non custodian, but there is no way we can actually verify whether they are or not since they are closed source. You only have to take them by their word which goes against the principle of verifying and not trusting.

You can only comfortably comment on a wallet or  software, if it is fully open source and you have verified its codes.
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 12-word seed vs 24-word seed? This seems pretty interesting on: April 27, 2023, 06:54:50 PM
There are people who think that its okay to not completely hide your seeds if you remember the way they are ordered but this small experiment makes it pretty clear that one should be more cautious.
No one should consider scrambling their seeds as a way of keeping it away from Intruders, you can forget the actual order and can lose your bitcoins, especially if it's a 24 word seed phrase.

The essence of back ups is the safety of the location which should be as covert as possible to evade detection. If one location does not prove enough then one should consider using more than one location with a multi sig wallet and storing them differently. One getting compromised does not result in loss of funds.

An additional seedphrase which you can store separately is also a good alternative to scrambling the seed phrase.
1029  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Elizabeth Warren wants the police at your door in 2024 on: April 27, 2023, 08:34:53 AM
Please, is this woman serious or just too old to understand the meaning of noncustodial wallet?
They definitely know what it is and that is the exact reason they are kicking against it. The government wants financial custody, Bitcoin challenges that so the government attacks Bitcoin.

I think that the bill will be directed to Self-Hosted (or non-custodial) wallets, which are those wallets that control the private key in one way or another, yet grant the user access to his account while claiming that they are wallets.
<snip>
As for traditional (custodial) wallets, how can they apply regulatory restrictions to them, especially if their developer is anonymous and they are open source?
You are mistaken the terms. Self custody or non custodial wallets are those that do not own your private keys while custodial wallets are those that do.
1030  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Missing Bitcoin on: April 27, 2023, 08:25:30 AM
Your topic title suggests you are receiving bitcoins and not an altcoin.
• Are you receiving to a exchange? If not...
• Which Bitcoin wallet do you use and is it properly synched.

In most cases unconfirmed transactions would show up in your wallet and 0 confirmation is enough to be able to spend it using CFNP. With 1 it's already an unspent output in the wallet.

The txid would be enough for forum users to give you a helping hand.
1031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easy way to paste IMG fast to your post on: April 26, 2023, 08:35:54 PM
imgur or imgbb inconvenient to use from a smartphone
This is true for imgur which I have used on both mobile and PC. It's a pain to use on mobile and you have to register an account to be able to upload the images on their platform. It works very fine on PC as opposed to mobile.

Your suggestion of a telegram bot could turn away those who consider telegram to be a bit too intrusive to use and would rather stick to the known sites which allow one access bbcode images without registering.
1032  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum not opening on: April 25, 2023, 07:06:36 PM
This delay should be a result of the device you are accessing electrum on. A lower version mobile device with a low ram space can cause a lag while trying to access electrum. Try clearing up space on your device to ensure its working at optimum capacity and verify if you have some other apps which are experiencing the same situation.

Don't also rule out the possibility of your device being compromised by a virus or malware which is slowing it down.
1033  Other / Meta / Re: tracking all activities is possible? on: April 25, 2023, 06:07:43 PM
I am guessing that the next activity period will begin on the 3rd of May Huh.
You are pretty much right about everything you posted and you don't have to guess which day is the next for the activity period, you can check the spreadsheet already posted in this thread; https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12saLhlUoqIdairxzuSPu6EYGrt7FN2lOstO1yDjCEbA

It shows the cutoff date and time for the next activity period.
1034  Other / Meta / Re: tracking all activities is possible? on: April 25, 2023, 05:14:56 PM
can we track our forum activity, like there is 14days and how to know that i gained one activity at that day or not?
i didn't found it anywhere.
The activity does not correspond to the days, only that you can get 14 activities max in a 2 week period. To know if you get an activity in a day it would reflect on your profile except you have gotten the maximum activity for that period.
If you make more than 14 posts in a 2 week period only 14 would count towards that activity week.

Also note that you only one post is enough to potentially claim the activities for that period. For example; if I make one post in the first two weeks and 2 in the next two weeks, I potentially have 28 activities to claim if I make 25 more posts in a short period of time.
1035  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best non Kyc exchange on: April 25, 2023, 03:09:45 PM
You can trade below the tide for centralized exchanges, for binance I believe it used to be 2BTC; being the amount you can trade with before you are required to submit personal details. This could vary from exchange to exchange and some could at any time require you to submit them even though you have been trading below the stipulated amount, so always bear that risk in mind.

Decentralized exchanges typically have low liquidity die to traders preferring to use centralized exchanges, if that sentiment gets broken it would be able to serve the non KYC compliant traders.
1036  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Terminology a powerful thread (Reshared) on: April 25, 2023, 02:59:10 PM
I have a question for you. How long have you been a member of this forum before discovering those threads?
<snip>
You seem to have not gotten the advice in the reply you quoted. Tha user was asking that you can also bump that particular thread you're linking to, but doing that it comes to the top page of the board again and those yet to see it would be able to find it easily. Jus follow the bump rules of 1 per every 24 hours and to delete old bumps.

The user also listed other useful threads still to make it easier for new members to find it easily and read through.
1037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do when there is a bear run in Bitcoin on: April 24, 2023, 10:48:16 PM
You prepare for a beer market when purchasing and not when he beat market starts. When buying Bitcoin I use only spare money and plan how long to hold for, or at best and estimate of the time range before I get my desired profit. This means I'm not moved by the volatility in the market cause I'm not in any need of the money invested.

Evaluate dollar-cost: before buying Bitcoin during a bear run consider dollar rate.
Dollar Cost Averaging does not consider dollar rate. It's just a frequent and regular purchase of Bitcoin or any asset.
1038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help] Newbie here. Is this website safe to use? on: April 24, 2023, 10:40:34 PM
I am new to Bitcoin, and I recently received a Bitcoin transaction on get. The transaction seems legitimate, because the customer of mine showed me a transaction receipt from an ATM and my wallet address written on it, but they require me to log in their website, create and account and verify my ID & SSN in order to claim the bitcoin to my wallet,
You cannot receive bitcoins to your wallet if you have not created an account, it's definitely a scam. For you to receive Bitcoin to a wallet you need to have created it and gotten a seedphrase which you can store, this generates public keys and then addresses you can send to someone and they send bitcoins to you there.

Do not submit your personal details.
1039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The two ways to invest in bitcoins. on: April 24, 2023, 03:18:00 PM
Buying small occasionally, otherwise known by the name of dollar cost averaging - This is method that is advised for people who are not rich, and who do not have enough money to buy big.
Dollar cost averaging is not used by people who are not rich or don't have enough money, it's used by those who do not want to time their entry into the market and choose to just buy at regular intervals. Microstrategy buys Bitcoin regularly, thousands of dollars worth of it at different times; which is a form of DCA but not done with small amounts.

• Matt could DCA with $100,000 worth of bitcoin every month, while
• Bob buys $50 worth of Bitcoin monthly.

These are different levels of investors but every one of them could DCA.
1040  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be aware of what to do as a new user to prevent losing your account. on: April 24, 2023, 08:09:13 AM
This whole rules don't only apply to newbies alone but also for all users of the forum.
It doesn't apply to newbies only, they are usually nuked where all their posts are removed and not banned. Higher ranked members gets banned too although not as frequent, those who get banned are usually those that got airdropped merits after spamming the forum.

The other day a senior member was banned for plagarism I really don't know if it was intentional or he forgot to add a source link to his post but he got banned definitely.
Unintentional plagiarism is not very common. The bans are not automated but considered on a case by case basis, so you wouldn't easily get banned for a slip up without actually trying to pass it off as your own.
