1082  Economy / Service Announcements / Hashfast in the news and not good news! on: May 28, 2014, 10:56:55 PM
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/05/bitcoin-miner-startup-hashfast-could-be-forced-to-liquidate-itself/

HashFast’s already terrible situation just got a lot worse.

The Bitcoin miner manufacturer-turned-chipmaker never fulfilled a $6 million deal with Bitcoin mining firm Liquidbits, which filed a slew of new documents in federal bankruptcy court in San Francisco on Wednesday.

BITCOIN MINER STARTUP SLAPPED WITH INVOLUNTARY BANKRUPTCY PETITION
HashFast: “We are evaluating our options and preparing our response."
The judge in the case agreed to hold an emergency hearing on Friday to appoint a Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee. If granted, the trustee’s primary job would be to immediately liquidate HashFast's remaining assets.
“Absent the immediate appointment of a trustee to realize the value of the [Bitcoin mining] chips, there may be nothing left in the estate to liquidate by the time an order for relief is entered,” Liquidbits argues in one of its filings.

Liquidbits’ CEO Gregory Bachrach alleges that HashFast is currently attempting to sell off its remaining inventory of Bitcoin mining chips to a foreign company—despite a binding arbitration order that forbids it from doing so. Neither HashFast nor its attorneys responded to Ars’ repeated requests for comment.

10 days ago, a different group of five customers filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition against the fledgling San Francisco startup. That was the first step in an attempt to recover more than $330,000 in payments that were apparently never fulfilled. The new filings tack onto that existing involuntary bankruptcy case.

The involuntary bankruptcy filing came days after HashFast’s CEO told Ars that his company was “as poor as church mice.” Prior to that, the company fired half of its staff and declared “we’re not scammers.”

In early May 2014, Ars profiled the San Francisco startup and chronicled the numerous arbitration cases and lawsuits that the company has pending against it. Many customers have accused the firm of outright fraud, and some are upset that when the company failed to fulfill its orders, it would not refund the amount in bitcoins as it had previously promised.

“HashFast was not in a position to refund the money”

In a declaration to the court, Liquidbits CEO Gregory Bachrach writes that his company had placed a $6 million order with HashFast as of October 3, 2013 to acquire Bitcoin hardware constituting a total of three petahashes per second.

The 10-page contract also states that Liquidbits will pay HashFast “payments calculated based on the gross revenues of Liquidbits and its Affiliates related to the use of the units, whether from trade contracts, Bitcoin mining, resale, or otherwise.”

EMBATTLED CEO OF BITCOIN MINER FIRM: “WE ARE AS POOR AS CHURCH MICE”
As legal cases mount, HashFast laments decisions that led to fraud accusations.
This massive order appears to be the same one that CEO Eduardo deCastro mentioned to Ars recently. Because HashFast could not fulfill it, Liquidbits backed out of the deal, depriving the company of much needed income.
Bachrach states in his declaration that by March 2014, “HashFast had delivered to Liquidbits only a small portion of the equipment it agreed to deliver in the original agreement.”

The companies later negotiated to convert the 2,500 Sierra mining units ordered into 30,000 Golden Nonce chips, the hardware core of the mining box. However, Bachrach states that HashFast made no deliveries in March 2014 and delivered only 2,000 chips in April 2014.

“Since the [memorandum of understanding] was executed, I have engaged in efforts to obtain for Liquidbits the remaining 28,000 chips,” he states. “I have also repeatedly asked HashFast for a refund of the amounts paid for the undelivered chips. Each time I was told by HashFast personnel that HashFast was not in a position to refund the money.”

Bankruptcy court

Liquidbits then began arbitration—a private process to adjudicate legal disputes outside of the court system—on April 14, 2014. On May 9, 2014, an emergency arbitrator forbade HashFast from “selling or otherwise transferring ownership of” the 28,000 chips that it owes Liquidbits.

BITCOIN MINING STARTUP FIRES HALF ITS STAFF, DECLARES “WE’RE NOT SCAMMERS”
“HashFast is solvent—I just went over the numbers with our CFO."
That same day, five claimants—Koi Systems of Hong Kong is the single largest one, claiming a loss of more than $280,000—submitted their involuntary bankruptcy filings against HashFast. On May 12, 2014, the arbitration was stayed, or put on hold, until the bankruptcy issue was resolved.
In a separate court filing, Willem van Rooye, the managing director of DigiMex, another Bitcoin mining pool, told the court that he had had an in-person conversation with HashFast CTO Simon Barber at a Bitcoin conference in Amsterdam on May 17.

In that document, van Rooyen, alleges that Barber then “proposed a ‘joint venture’ between DigiMex and HashFast, ”which would transfer “all or substantially all of the assets of HashFast (in the form of its entire inventory of hardware) to a new entity.”

He added: “While not explicitly stated, based on the operations proposed and the nature of the involvement of DigiMex which operate outside the United States, I understood this to mean that these assets would be transferred out of the United States.”

Were such an agreement between HashFast and DigiMex to be executed, it would contravene the arbitrator’s order and would effectively prevent any of the creditors from getting their money back.

The bankruptcy hearing, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 2pm on Friday May 23, at the United States Bankruptcy Court in San Francisco, in Courtroom 22.
1083  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: For sale: 90Mh/s Alpha Technology Viper SCRYPT mining server - 1 unit preorder on: May 28, 2014, 10:54:26 PM
The unit is loosing value with all the asics coming online and before this unit does.

if it's delivered in July at the advertised price - it is a relatively good deal.

although I would personally prefer 4 boxes at 75 MH each - you can easily overwhelm a poll or when solo mining go over 51% network hash on many of the smaller coins....which is great if you wanna take control.

Well, the block explorer from first post isn't working and noone cared to fix that for a week or so. But what I really would like to know is - Why does NAUT have ~2,7mln coins atm when according to the specs there should be over 6mln mined already?

http://nautinsight.buddylabsapps.com/ at least this block explorer says so, at the time I'm writing this, we're at 17000th block, 17000*159 is ~2,7mln

The drastically increased difficulty thanks to multipools caused block discovery to take longer, add on the 1% reduction per week and that should answer your question.

This is an example of digishield doing its job.

well not exactly

we had these kinds of difficulty levels when network hash rates were over 5 GHS and they're still the same.
1087  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: For sale: 90Mh/s Alpha Technology Viper SCRYPT mining server - 1 unit preorder on: May 28, 2014, 02:17:24 PM
Should have taken the 4btc.  This preorder is essentially worthless.  You can buy delivered today for 9500 this much hashing power.  Why would anyone purchase a preorder that costs in total 9500 but isn't ready, at best, until end of july?

in your dreams- the is 250MH dude.

the original invoice says 25 MH and your title says : 250 MH

which is it?
1090  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Asicplus Official Zeusminer Distributor preorder now USA stock 5/31/2014 on: May 28, 2014, 01:49:34 PM
the basic problem is that as it relates to Zeus products - the people private labeling the Zeus machine are selling them cheaper than Zeus!

good luck!

ipominer is still pointed at naut.

but ya...no clue why, anything else would be better

that's exactly why I don't use multi pools or ipominer - they're returns are horrible.

anyone on here interested in splitting the cost of the this with me?

I'm in the U.S. and can provide free hosting in a data center owned by hosting.com in newark, delaware.

the company that I'm a partner in has a few racks with plenty of space and electric is already paid for.

we'd split the mining income

let me know and I'll share my facebook and linked profiles with you - if you are serious!

ps: Bullitje - no one selling their positions is getting exactly what they paid - just a heads up so be prepared for offers because there really is no guarantee Viper will ever deliver a single system. This is a roll of the dice.

And it's my understanding that your balance is due by June 6 or you lose the unit and your deposit.

what seems a little odd as a miner is why the difficulty remains so high when the network hash has come way back down.

any ideas why?

a few weeks ago when network hash was about 1.2GHS, difficulties were in the 30 to 50 range but now that network hash is about 3 GHS - difficulties are still up on the 200 to 300 range and the pools are having a tough time even finding blocks to mine.

Would DigiShield have something to do with that?

digishield is supposed to get difficulty back down to normal levels after the multipools are done reaking havoc but it does not seem like that's the case...

There is still at least one multipool pointed at it...

have no idea why because doge is almost twice as profitable to mine

we need more volume, this is getting depressing.

I expected this thing to hit .001337 a long time ago.

Patience is a virtue. Hold for now and wait. Isolating to one coin is a bad idea. Always diversify consolidation is only worthwhile when preparing to sell your way out. I expect this coin to hit more than that eventually though.

Hey im not mad at all just surprised we went from 3k btc volume to 68 btc.

I never put all my eggs in one basket, but yes I had to keep buying more to sell my way out.

Just saying there was big purchase the other day, I thought we would be headed up by now.

I'm with you.. i keep adding a little more every day in addition to what i've mined in the past.

How to solo mining using linux?
Please post step by step to do it and mention what linux to be prefer if its must run in specific one.

Mod: Please move to right subforum if its not the place to ask

it's not difficult.

first you have to install a wallet on one of the computer on your 'network' or the computer you;re solo mining from.

then let it update (download the block chain)

then create a 'coinname'.conf file with a listening port setup (this varies per coin) and a list of the ip addresses allowed to access the wallet on that port
and also set:
deamon=1
server=1

set a rpcusername and rpcpassword in that file also for authentication

fire up your wallet

then set your miner to point to "http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:rpcport set in the conf file"
username : "whatever you set in the conf file"
password : "whatever you set in the conf file"

no tcp/stratum stuff here - access is all via http on the local network

which ip address i should use? its always 127.0.0.1?

if you wallet is located on the machine you're mining on yes...

otherwise in my network at home I have my wallet in a windows box (192.168.1.25) and my miners are on linux boxes so my linux boxes point to my windows machine that houses the wallet
