1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Awareness - Welcoming New Bitcoiners with $1 Worth of Sat in Cameroon on: October 20, 2023, 02:33:12 AM
It seems like you are doing a good job. The only thing, I imagine that the LN is done through some centralized entity, isn't it? Otherwise you should open a channel to send that $1 to each person. In general everything that involves a popularization of Bitcoin seems to me a good idea even if it does not fit perfectly into Satoshi's initial idea of P2P.
As much as this is a cause for concern, I think that for beginners it helps that they are able to just start with this because teaching them about complicated things quickly wouldn't probably be in their best interest, let them explore the easy parts and as OP have said, they have a private group chat for their questions. Also, you have to understand that there are different ways for someone to learn about bitcoin and I believe that the way that we learn about bitcoin is flexible and has a lot of freedom, that way embodies what bitcoin is to the core.
It is a known fact that Cameroon government has yet implemented an appropriate regulation about cryptocurrency hopefully they will be inclined in accepting BTC.
Which is a good thing because if there's nothing to be done about it yet then the people who wants to learn about bitcoin are doing just fine and if down the line the bitcoin influence in the country seeps through the government of Cameroon then the current status quo of bitcoin and crypto in the general would probably change and hopefully for the better of both bitcoin and the people of Cameroon given that when the influence was hopefully positive when it reached the government.

1423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think? Selling all or not on: October 19, 2023, 07:52:05 AM
We know. Just cause people are so excited about the bull run doesn't mean we'd be selling all our bitcoins and cryptocurrencies to cash out on the profits. That's not how it works. These people are talking about the bull run in the context of how much it would pump bitcoin's value and increase the worth of their cryptocurrencies. Sure there will be people who would cash out of the cryptocurrency hype train but that doesn't mean everyone will. That's stupid.

Everyone's going to be holding their bitcoins for dear life once the bull run comes in hopes of actually earning more by biding their time. That's how it has worked out in the past and that's how it will work out now. There won't be any reinventing of the wheel that will happen here.
OP really thought that everyone will be literally selling all of their bitcoin and that they won't leave a bitcoin in case the price gets higher. Definitely that's what's going to happen when bitcoin pumps again, people getting out and people not getting out of the pump. I think that your second statement is not the best thing to do too especially if we already have an idea that if the new ATH hits and the price starts to stabilize to create a new price floor then we're probably going to wait for another 5 or 6 years before another pump happens, sure it worked in the past but the price of bitcoin at that time is something that's not as big as it is now which at that time you can easily justify that you don't want to complicate your hodling by getting out and then getting back when the bull run's over but it wouldn't work now and it's just plain stupid to not take a profit out of what you're hodling, as the saying goes, don't marry the bag.
While it would not be a good idea to sell all bitcoins in a bull market, some bitcoins should be kept in the fund.  There are many investors who are anxious to see a bull market, and they think that if there is a good profit, they should sell everything. However, the trading strategy may differ from one person to another.  I agree it can be a good idea to sell your bitcoins during a bull run, but sell 50% without selling all the bitcoins.  Because there is no guarantee when the next bear market will occur.  If Bitcoin really go to moon if the price goes above 100k then you can consider it.
It is not a good idea but if you have a target price to when you're going to sell them all, then you really needn't worry about leaving some bitcoin behind so you can maximize your profit. Anxious isn't the right word although I can see why that can be the case, there are other investors that aren't satisfied with the amount of bitcoin that they're currently hodling and no one really knows when will the pump happen but I like to believe that those anxiety aren't present in the general market population.

1426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To protect consumers, Australia has introduced new regulations for cryptocurrenc on: October 16, 2023, 08:31:02 AM
They choose a good words which is "protecting consumers" it show if they're a good government, while actually their reason is to "control" their citizensso they can track how much the wealth of their citizens and tax it.

There's nothing will change, the exchanges will still accept those shitcoins and Australian government will only say "cryptocurrency is a high risk investment, do with cautious".
All country use that term, it's not a spell binding word that would prevent businesses from exploiting, deceiving or abusing their consumer base. I don't about your claim about tracking though, they probably already have that tracking that you're talking about even before the passing of this regulation, I mean Australian citizens are paying their taxes already, I am sure that the Australian version of the IRS has their calculator kids crunching the numbers to track the wealth that each of their citizens have, of course there's never going to be any changes, pretty sure that you already know how slow the bureaucratic process is in the government.
1427  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Quality Bitcoin Tshirt on: October 15, 2023, 07:13:23 AM

1429  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Shopee Voucher(1.5k,1.3k,1.2k) on: October 14, 2023, 07:13:21 AM
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Precious Metals - the final verdict is in. on: October 14, 2023, 05:20:19 AM
I do buy silver steady dca for years.

I have 10  10oz bars
I have  20   5oz bars
I have  27  1oz bars and rounds
I have 100 Morgan and peace dollar

the above weighs 300 plus oz and the value is under 9000 usd.

the downside is it is heavy.

The upside is I keep it in an easy place for thieves to find.

Hopefully they would see it and just say fuck it and leave with just that.

That's a hefty haul you got, are you considering selling your bigger bars in exchange for smaller albeit much expensive precious metals maybe like switching your silver bars for platinum or gold although gold wouldn't be a choice for you as thieves will just steal it outright. I wouldn't agree that it's an upside for the thieves to be able to see your silver stash, at the least put that stash in somewhere that you can hide like a floorboard or a safe that's stashed in a cupboard to make it look inconspicuous.
1431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If only property I have is bitcoin on: October 14, 2023, 01:58:06 AM
> should I show my family my seed phrase ?
> If I die who will take over my bitcoin since nobody knows my seed phrase?
You don't have to show your seed phrase to your family until your dead, you can hire a lawyer and create a will where you write your seed phrase in a paper or something that can't easily be destroyed and then put a clause in your will that that document that stores your seed phrase can only be accessed by the people that's on your will. Regarding your second question, I don't think you have to think about it right now, live in the moment, thinking when and where you will die will only fill your heart with dread and that's not the way to live imo.

What @albert0bsd said can help you a lot, take the time to read the link he provided.
1432  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to verify a URL of a website on: October 14, 2023, 12:57:09 AM
Another useful tip to prevent landing on phishing sites is to just bookmark the legitimate website so whenever you have to open your browser, you don't have to search for it again and risk clicking the phishing site of that website. Less hassle than constantly checking the websites every time you go to it, maybe the first time it's a valid and a smart thing to do but in the long run, you have to think how to optimize stuff. And also, remember to not a stupid Internet surfer, like in life, don't put your dick in anything that resembles a hole which is the same as putting your information because the website asks for it, the moment that they ask for it right from the get go, that should already raise some red flags.
1433  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You data is not safe on centralized exchanges on: October 12, 2023, 10:03:55 AM
Is the message randomly sent to people? I think the hackers target Hong Kong Binance users and that can only be from data breach or insider work.
It's not randomly sent, there are hackers that scrape data on websites and there are people that are in-charge of getting data of large quantity of people and those people sell those data illegally to entities that are using those compromised data to do their nefarious deeds. These very things are the very reason why data are protected and why hackers sought them the most besides money and confidential files.
1434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of reserves? Insurance fund? Best I can do is a random number generator! on: October 11, 2023, 02:41:17 PM
I have a bit of knowledge in programming so I giggled a bit, they just did a complicated print command. Seriously though, I am scared right now for my bitcoins because they're not in a non-custodial wallet and I think that this will be the final straw, I'll be contacting someone.
1435  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Why trust electrum? on: October 11, 2023, 12:18:19 PM
That's because with Electrum wallet, you're responsible for your own bitcoins and the likelihood of having your bitcoins being stolen is close to zero if you're careful with where you store the wallet. The reason that they recommend it is because it's a good wallet for you, they care that you don't lose your bitcoins as a newbie and at the same time you learn how to use a non-custodial wallet and be responsible for your own safety.
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodling vs trading on: October 10, 2023, 04:37:53 PM
Always best to hodl because bitcoin is still very volatile & you can easily get liquidated trying to trade & time the market. Nobody who has managed to hodl for two full four year cycles has ever lost money. It’s boring & most people don’t have the staying power, patience required but seriously hodling long term is the way to go, it never fails. Trading is gambling & many times you are not a lucky winner.
It still depends, if you're the type to have a little risk in your life then you can always consider trading as a means to utilize your bitcoins, some people that lose their patience hodling would've probably fared better if they've tried their hands on trading instead of just idly waiting for the prices to skyrocket but you're right, hodling never fails but I have to advice that while hodling you should also have other means to make money like a job or business and then slowly buy bitcoin to increase what you're hodling.
1437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Case of Global Conflict, Is BTC The Best Alternative? on: October 10, 2023, 11:41:10 AM
I think, that in case of WW III we will not need any money anymore. It will be about global instinction. At least, i hope that it will stay at local levels. In this case, bitcoin can act as a hedge against war, yeah
You mean extinction right? I disagree that bitcoin will be a hedge against war, I mean if that was the case, bitcoin would've been pumping non-stop with the advent of Ukraine-Russia war right?

Regarding global conflict, if your country isn't in any way affected, pretty sure that bitcoin would still do you good although if you're in a country affected by war, you're better off buying precious metals with your bitcoin and then try hoarding it because raw materials like iron and steel will be in demand.
1438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I want to fulfill my mother's dream of building a house with Bitcoin. on: October 09, 2023, 03:47:52 PM
Good luck with your hard journey, but I would suggest that you not only focus on the trading that you've stated that you are earning on it because it is not stable, maybe the market goes your way right now but tomorrow don't. Also holding Bitcoin for 4 years is a good idea but it is better to find a job if you've done your education because you can earn money in a stable way and help your parents. Building a house is your dream goal but it is better to prioritize first your family especially your father who may needs a medical attention so save when you can.
Don't scare OP about trading, pretty sure that OP knows what he's doing and I'm sure that OP knows the risks involved. I do agree with your second advice though, having a stable job after finishing school is definitely a good way to build a foundation if you're not the kind that wants to be an entrepreneur, creating a career for some people is fulfilling so it's worth a shot plus a stable income means a consistent bitcoin investment. Another overlooked is to not focus too much on creating a goal, practice consistency and remember that it's important to do self-care, what's the point of building a house if you were to die of overwork or chasing the bag. Also, enjoy life, there's more to it than just making money.
1439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always ask questions, it doesn't make you a fool. on: October 08, 2023, 04:06:55 AM
~
It's just that there are some annoying newbie behaviors. they create a question thread, then leave their own thread and create another question thread. that means they really don't care about the discussion that is developing.

what you say is true, not all beginners on the forum understand the forum as a whole. even just using the search feature may be too difficult for beginners. I just hope they have the confidence to be more active in discussions. although sometimes limited knowledge makes beginners quite insecure.
Again, refer to the last part of what I've said, don't answer the question if you think it's a waste of time and I think that them being annoying is considered in that regard. Regarding the last part of what you said though, I think that we don't have any control in that, it's up to the newbie if he's willing and enthusiastic to be an active participant in the forum.
1440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always ask questions, it doesn't make you a fool. on: October 08, 2023, 01:48:57 AM
It's more than foolish if you don't read, search to find answers before you ask questions.

If you always ask questions without your due diligent research, it's foolish because I am doubtful you will read any replies on your questions. Being lazy enough to not search that is enough to don't read any reply.
There's a hint of truth to that but that doesn't mean that it's the whole truth because there are times when you don't even know what to read. Calling people lazy just because they don't read and just question outright is kind of condescending of you to say, newbies won't really know what to do so they ask questions first. In regards, to people that's answering those questions, it's not like it's going to be a mandatory thing for you to answer them, if you find the question a waste of your time then don't answer it.
