1161  Economy / Economics / Re: Isn't Fiat the Real Ponzi on: October 31, 2023, 06:10:08 AM
Fiat is a scam but it’s not considered a ponzi. Ponzi is what Madoff did and it’s where he took the money from his newest investors to pay off the oldest investors which were cashing out.
I guess when you really hate the financial system, you just have to plaster in that it's a Ponzi scheme without a care about the very definition of that so you can generate reactions from other who don't like to think too much and just sympathize that fiat is bad and central banks are just an evil organization (which I agree they are but that's not the point). Maybe next time, try to direct the hate in a way that it's informative and not just a senseless rant about why the government and the current is oppressing the people, no one listens to the crazy homeless guy, make your statements presentable OP.
The fact that he got away with this for years is what’s crazy. You would think some accountant would find something off sooner than later.

Eventually when too many people tried to withdraw at once it’s when the ponzi crumbled and he was exposed.
I don't have all the info on this and it's just a conjecture but I believe the reason why Madoff has got away from the sniffing of forensic accountants is probably the fact that he's a reputable and influential investor in the Wallstreet and if there's someone snooping then he can just use his connections to stop the snooping or even discredit the investigations but it seems these didn't last long, after all that investment scheme like any Ponzi out there, is a house of cards.
1162  Economy / Economics / Re: Almost All Countries Affected by Inflation, Opportunity for Bitcoin! on: October 30, 2023, 05:02:08 PM
Of course, we all know everything advantageous if you were to use Bitcoin and HODL it. It's going to be different for every country but the important thing to see if it has really an effect is that there would be more countries to adopt it. We cannot really quantify if we have so little data. If there would be somewhat of a Bitcoin standard, that would be interesting as well.
If you can convert your bitcoins first to USD and then convert it to the country's currency, I think that we're going to be the same situation which is having a good standing since USD is pretty much a big money in many countries. I would disagree with little data though, there's 10+ years worth of bitcoin history so I don't think that if we were to do a dig or delve of data, we wouldn't probably consider it little.

Inflation definitely is a big problem but it's not like it's impossible to solve, I guess if the people and the government work together while the people are enjoying the benefits of bitcoin, we might see a day where we don't have to be worried about inflation that we evacuate our money on investments like bitcoin just so we can protect ourselves from that phenomena.
1163  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Using a Credit Card Demonstrate Financial Literacy? on: October 30, 2023, 03:58:56 PM
If we're talking about how you pay your stuff and depending on how you do it will demonstrate how financially literate you are then the absolute answer in my opinion would be that you know when to use your cash and credit card and you also know how to maximize the use of credit card bonuses without the hassle of being in debt because of using it since you also know how to pay for it in time. The very act of using doesn't demonstrate financial literacy because of the factors that I've said before regarding credit cards might not be existing in your routine.
1164  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's imagine you were the president of your country, How would your Economic on: October 30, 2023, 02:56:27 PM
Macro economy is really a big matter, even you have a great idea to reduce poverty, inflation etc, your idea will affect other sectors.

Yeah we can become a transparent and good president, but you shouldn't forget you have a chance to get death threat from someone who're like to play dirty games. Can you accept it? everyday getting a death threat and if you not have a strong mental, you will not able to stand up to fight against them.
Yeah you're probably right but with the right advisers and economists that share your vision of eliminating poverty, I don't think that it's a pipe dream to eliminate poverty because there's enough money already and studies have been published year after year about this very problem and the multitude of efficient and effective solution, what only needs to be done is probably the support or initiative of the government. If you're the president, you should've been immune to that kind of threats because that's the most difficult job and it should be a requirement that you're not going to back down from threats and that you've got a steel nerve.
1165  Economy / Economics / Re: Steam drops support for 2 fiat currencies over their volatlity on: October 30, 2023, 02:16:49 PM
Yeah I remember when Steam dropped bitcoin. This was nearing the top of the 2017 cycle and unlike the 2021 top, the fees on the bitcoin network then were actually very high. In 2021 the fees were low compared to 2017. The fees were bad for Ethereum instead.

It was like $20-40 to send a single 1 input and 2 output transaction. Not worth it for a small game. Also the issue with Bitpay was that you needed to pay the fees twice. First to send to a specific wallet address and then to send it to the Bitpays hot wallet. So I am not surprised they stopped accepting it. However lately they wouldn’t have these  issues but since they never re added it its most likely due to small demand.
I didn't know that Steam supported bitcoin as a way to pay for stuff in their store, that's actually pretty cool but given the problem with the transactions, I can see why they've dropped their support pretty understandable thing, not like other companies trying to even taint bitcoin's image while dropping it. Regarding the dropping of Turkish Lira and Argentine Peso, I think it's a good news and probably a good way for Turkish and Argentinian players to make money selling stuff on the Steam market since they're going to get paid in USD, am I wrong that it's a good thing or not? Because that's what I take from this news.
1166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a “safe haven asset” on: October 29, 2023, 09:11:19 AM
Previously, not only did the world consider bitcoin a highly volatile and high-risk asset, but even those of us who invested in bitcoin considered it a high-risk asset. But I think we should gradually change that concept as well as change the way we call it, bitcoin is no longer a risky asset. Recently AllianceBernstein, an asset manager with $699 billion, called bitcoin a safe haven and even more attractive than gold.
I'm pretty sure that the people who've been in bitcoin for a long time knows that bitcoin is a high-risk asset even before they get into and that's why it's so popular among people that are into revolutionary technology especially in terms of monetary system, this is the pioneering online asset that started it all. I still think that it's a high-risk asset though because the volatility of bitcoin never changed and just because some random asset management group says that bitcoin is a safe haven doesn't mean that it's not a high-risk anymore but I do agree that it's a safe haven though.
For me, this is the first time I've seen a traditional company admit and call bitcoin a safe haven and consider it superior to gold. What do you think about this and should we stop calling bitcoin a risky investment?
I guess it's a cause for celebration but I think that there are others that have already said what they've said although they're not a company, shouldn't you count Tesla buying bitcoins and at one time accepting bitcoin as a payment for Tesla as traditional company that admitted to the beauty of bitcoin. I don't think that we should stop calling bitcoin that because any investment is always risky plus what's the point of not calling it a risky investment? It will only paint bitcoin in a light that it looks too good to be true for the newbies because someone just decided that investing in bitcoin is risk-free.
1167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Educating unemployed friends about Bitcoin on: October 29, 2023, 08:10:23 AM
I know that you really want to help your friends to become financially independent but I have to tell you this OP, it's illegal in your country so you're better off saving yourself first because you would never know if your friends will point finger on you if they get caught being involved in bitcoin, of course you can educate them but I don't think it's your prerogative to teach them access or buying bitcoin lest they get caught. I don't know if you've started already teaching them more complex stuff but if not yet, I implore you to tread lightly if possible because as noble as your intentions are, you better take care of yourself first.
1168  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Mining In Iran on: October 29, 2023, 06:52:46 AM
~
The articles the OP quoted are close to three years old and there were no links to any legal document. We might not know how valid the information is and also the current situation. But most website seems to agree that Iran is using Bitcoin to invade sanctions from the US and other countries.

Encouraging miners to sell their coins to the government is not a bad idea if they are not forced to do that and the price is competitive. Miners that want to hold coins should be given the freedom to keep them and the price the state is willing to buy should also be the same as in the international market. Failure to treat these miners fairly will make Iran unfriendly and force miners to move to other nations.
You mean evade right?

Regarding the age of the article and the cricket noises after the fact, I was hoping we can see what happened next in this story, did Iran follow through? Did the miners ever complied on this arrangement? I can agree with you that it's a good arrangement that they are encouraged to sell at a competitive price but my problem with that is what OP said, that the government (Ministry of Energy and Central Bank of Iran) have a say on what's the share of the miners depending on their energy consumption which is totally in favor of the government. Knowing Iran and how they do things there based on what I've read about the country, I don't think that freedom is a big deal there so yeah, you're probably right that this is their way to fund their country while at the same time evading US sanctions.
1169  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Mining In Iran on: October 29, 2023, 06:06:38 AM
That's an awful arrangement, is Iran not making a lot of money that they're trying their best at not just taxing bitcoin mining that they want a part of the mining themselves? If the government has the say in the part of the miners, that's bound to be full of corruption because the miners don't got a say of how they will get their part, that's like fishing on a lake and the park rangers will take your haul and they will decide what you get, is my comparison sort of correct regarding the mining regulation in Iran?
1170  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Shopee Voucher(1.5k,1.3k,1.2k) on: October 29, 2023, 04:26:04 AM
~

Siguro sayo is barya nalang yun pero may mali dun hahaha. Iba atang app yang sinasabi mo kabayan pero salamat sa tip, di kasi ako madalas mag online shop kaya di ako pamilyar sa mga ways para makatipid.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A weird belief among some gamblers. on: October 28, 2023, 09:44:21 AM
It is a very natural thing to bet and hope for luck, although it is still not certain whether someone will really be lucky. Because people who bet without expecting to win or get lucky are just people who are having fun with gambling, so it wouldn't be strange if someone who bets doesn't want to tell other people about their luck. Because this kind of thing can actually be done by anyone who has the courage and ability individually without having to depend on other people.
Exactly, it's not like you have control on how the team that you're betting on will perform, your control stopped when you've locked it in and now it all relies on the skills of the team you've put your bet on. To be honest, most betting should be easy especially if you just bet on the one with the lowest odds, it's common sense that betting sites will put lower odds on the teams that's likely to win so why not just go with your common sense and secure an easy win?
1172  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dangerous chasing losses on: October 28, 2023, 08:40:07 AM
You are really very lucky where at first you lose a lot but in the end you recover your losses and get 150 USD in addition. If it were me, maybe I wouldn't dare to deposit thousands of dollars again just to recover my losses. Because from my experience, when I chase losses, I end up losing more, which makes me even more annoyed and looks like a fool.
I wouldn't say that OP's lucky though, it's betting so there's an involvement of analysis so it's not all luck, if OP knows where to place the bets then there's a higher chance of OP winning. Chasing losses is a matter of what game is being played, if it's based on chances, chasing losses is the worst thing that you can do but if there's a chance that your skill can change the game, then chasing losses is a possibility and not the worst thing that you can do maybe in the latter case, it's up to you if you want to break even or stop right then and there.
1173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou Boxing October 28 on: October 28, 2023, 07:57:17 AM
If you have spare money you can afford to waste, go for Ngannou a big win with 8.20. And it could also go to waste more than likely.

A KO win by Fury still is substantial which is more than 80% possible if we look at the odds itself.
But there is no assurance to it yet, they could just be running arround the ring and end in a decision.
They're heavyweight fights I think so running around the ring would be the least thing that they're going to do and I believe that it's either going to be a slug fest or a battle of predictions but I've seen what Ngannou's fist can do and I think that if he's boxing training is going to be fruitful, he might have a chance to win against the Gypsy King but who knows, we will know tomorrow who's going to be dominating.
I'm curious about the odds for the KO by Fury in this fight. Were they at 1.80 or higher?
K.O. bets are probably higher since they're more uncertain and unpredictable.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Inoue vs Tapales for Unified Super Bantamweight Title - December 26 on: October 28, 2023, 06:34:22 AM
Also similar to Tapales, Conor was also humble before he became very rich. When he was not yet a champion, Conor's trashtalking was also not from his personality. He only taught himself to trashtalk to sell more tickets and more UFC subscriptions. Marlon can also use this tactic to sell more payperviews. It will also make this very exciting for the fans hehe.
That's what I think about his attitude too, and I think that McGregor being an asshole and cocky fighter during interviews contributed to the increase in sales in his fights which I think is the best strategy right now because you can pair this kind of fighter with a calm demeanor fighter or an equally trashtalking fighter and the results are going to be the same: more people wanting to see the matches. This fight is going to be a blast and I feel like Tapales is going to have a hard time with this one on the aspect that it's the Ariake Arena where Inoue defeated Fulton so the psychological warfare is on Inoue's advantage but given that there's two titles at risk for Tapales, hopefully it's enough to stave off that mental warfare of fighting in that arena where Inoue did a one-sided fight.
1175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tips on staying responsible. on: October 28, 2023, 05:45:01 AM
I think I agree with you to the aspect of not devoting most of your time to gambling but that can be applicable to people who get themselves engaged in one way or the other whereby they are mostly busy with work and as such do not have much time gambling but only on few occasions and that is during the weekends when they are less busy  compared to those who have nothing doing and decides to take up gambling as their full time job. These sets of people possibly are addicted to gambling and cannot do without it as they have it as a full time job.
If we're talking about gambling responsibly, shouldn't the discipline of time management part of that umbrella which is "gambling responsibly"? What I mean is that having a time devoted to your gambling habit and knowing the time to stop is a common sense that shouldn't really be said. It seems like telling them that is kind of a reminder and that they're already failing at being responsible at gambling. How can someone have gambling as a full-time job? Don't you lose money more in gambling?
1176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Best Practices for Staying Safe When Gambling on: October 28, 2023, 03:15:38 AM
Let me start with this suggestion that we should desist from going after friends when gambling or taking friends decision on our own gambling, we can make friends for fun and there should be limit to how far they can interfere to our gambling lifestyle
The fact that you are trying to fight the urge to not listen to your friends when making a gambling decisions makes you unfit to gamble in the first place because gambling should be your own decision and bringing in other people is going to be a disaster in the making because when you lose, you're definitely going to blame the person that you've listened for advice and don't say that you won't because your emotions when that happens is going to be in shambles so your instinct is to pass the blame to relieve the clashing emotions and you'll definitely blame that person.
1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fake casino streamers! Why such streamers are very popular? on: October 28, 2023, 02:30:12 AM
I think that is one of the easiest ways to identify whether someone is showing genuine feelings of happiness or are faking all of it, through their laugher or their grim/smile.
Faking joy and happiness can be difficult for the average person, so one could tell whether some streamer is actually betting/gambling when they react to wins.
Once I was taught that someone who is laughing authentically will have their eyes stretched (a tendency to getting then close), if someone fakes a smile and does not do so, then it is very likely to be gambling monopoly money for the sake of advertisements, etc.
If you want to really be good at identifying fakers, the best thing you can do is to be a faker yourself and no it's not something that you can learn for a month, you should be a faker ever since because there are nuances to emotions and facial movement and only fakers can identify other fakers. It's hard to identify fake emotions especially if you're a genuinely nice person that wants to believe that there's good in everyone plus there are other people that aren't really good with expressing what they're feeling so the way they deliver their reaction is kind of awkward that we will think that it's a fake one and that's why I believe that it's easier if you are a faker yourself to be able to identify fake laughs and fake reactions. That's not the rule though as common sense is a thing, there are others that don't bother hiding that they're faking.

The answer to your question regarding these casino streamers being popular is that they're all famous people that have influence on a variety of people that are watching their streams plus they're a cheaper way for casinos to hire to advertise their business and they get a ton of value out of it because streamers have a live audiences and that's the wet dream of any advertiser, a live audience that they can bombard with ads without the audiences being annoyed of it because they're favorite streamers are playing it, factor the fact that most famous streamers are bombastic and always interacting with their audiences which helps maintain attention span and more exposure for the casino advertisement.
1178  Economy / Economics / Re: Small Scale Business Ideas on: October 28, 2023, 01:46:35 AM
Business whether its big or small, it will always have its own risk. To minimize risks in every business, you have to know what you're doing, a business plan is a must. You must know where to start your business, your target customer, your budget, and what kind of business is fitted in your area.

Also, you have to make a very unique marketing strategy or an advertisement to make it famous in no time, so the audience will be curious about your business and your customers in no time.
What's the point of telling everyone about this though? OP is asking for a business idea and I believe that OP did point out about this part already so, a bit redundant of a post if you ask me. If it's a small business, you really don't have to do any advertisement because most small businesses pop up on closely knitted neighborhood in my experience so you really don't need to do any ads to promote because people are going to see your business when they walk by the general vicinity of the business.

About small business idea, the currently trending idea in my local area are food-related like milk tea shops or Korean barbecue joints, so the idea here would be to build a small business that involves serving local or a new culture cuisine, maybe building a Jamaican jerk chicken shop or Jamaican cuisine would be a good small business idea although but you have to be really cooking a really good jerk chicken because if you're not a Jamaican, at least do your best at cultural appropriation for profit.
1179  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the need to be known a requirement to qualify for a loan(s)? on: October 27, 2023, 03:50:11 PM
~
Lending because of generosity only exists in soap operas.
Especially in this forum, everything must have a guarantee and a price, those who are honest will be rewarded but those who are dishonest and have bad intentions will suffer the consequences.
No stranger will be given a loan by the benefactor.
That's why I've said in my reply that "If" which means that I'm implying a possibility not reality but we don't live in that kind of world where there's no such thing as pure honesty. Regarding the consequences though, I don't think that the lenders that will default here in the forum is going to be suffering that huge of a consequence because this is online and you can't really dox someone. I don't know about being rewarded though when you pay your debts here, I guess the good thing aren't as physically attractive compared to consequences.
1180  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin: The smartest investment choice. on: October 27, 2023, 02:34:17 PM
Munger is a walking corpse, it does not matter what people like him & Buffett think about bitcoin. They ere old school, legacy finance guys. What they’ve done their whole life has worked well for them. They will not embrace new tech before they die, which won’t be long. Bitcoin also takes a slice of the pie too so they will never actively support it. But yes of course bitcoin is a great investment, you don’t need them to tell you that.
As much as loved your apt description about Munger, experience should still be a thing that we should consider when hearing them, you might say that you don't need to hear them but the point is to put what they're saying in consideration and still think for yourself. It's hubris like that the new generation is going to replace the old will be the new generation's downfall. As much as we want to hate on them for being against bitcoin, I still think that these authorities when it comes to investment should still be worth listening to.
