1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: | POLL | Best suited place for bitcoin symbol's before or after amounts? on: October 06, 2023, 02:28:23 AM
There isn't enough activity in this thread. I'm disappointed it didn't receive attention any where close to what I'd expected. The poll hasn't attracted votes so it isn't easy to know what your opinions are. I'd like to see expanded discussion about the symbol. Which one's for you before or after amounts?
That means that nobody cares where the bitcoin symbol should be placed and if I'm being honest, having a standard position kind of defeats the purpose of bitcoin being free and not governed by anyone. I think there's no need for an expanded discussion, the paltry activity in this thread should be enough message as to the stand of the forum users regarding bitcoin symbol placement.

1245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are all the Bitcoin naysayers? on: October 01, 2023, 02:35:33 AM
They are all on Reddit
Was going to say this but you beat me to it, lots of people there are still talking shit about crypto in general so no surprise that people that spread FUD are gathering there. I don't get the appeal of Reddit though, it feels as if you can't really voice a different opinion there and the threads are difficult to navigate. Now that I've read this post, there's not a lot of people in the forum that's creating an account just to spread FUD in these past few months, either they got tired or they're trying to find a new place to spout their nonsensical FUDs, you know where their claims aren't challenged.
1246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hate speech and it impacts on bitcoin on: October 01, 2023, 01:52:49 AM
Since some people are quick to adopt what other people say without trying to find out reasons of their own, the hate speech may make some people never know what bitcoins really are. But the people that hate bitcoins are helping bitcoin in a way because anytime they express their hatred for bitcoins, people will always wonder why they hate the thing called bitcoin so much. They may indirectly be helping to tell people about bitcoins and raise the interest of people to want to know what bitcoins are.
I think that's a problem that can't be solved easily and in a large scale, people being gullible and being easily swayed by an audacious speeches and letters are a problem which could've be solved by proper parenting, critical thinking should start as soon as possible for an individual, although critical thinking skill can still be learned as an adult you will probably meet some resistance because adults have an established beliefs and habits which is going to be difficult to break especially those with bad but feels good vibe habits and beliefs. The only thing that we can do against hate speech is to try to talk to them in a respectful manner, anger is easily diffused by calmness so a moderation in tone or no sarcasm in your speech or letters would be a good way to have a discussion with people that spout hate speech, most of them just wants to be heard anyways.
1247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin Can play its role to overcome the Financial Crises on: September 27, 2023, 02:25:35 PM
It's not that easy to send anymore because most of the time, you're still going to convert your bitcoins to cash anyway and with more people aware of bitcoin as a means to make money, I think that taxation of bitcoin sent across borders will be an inevitable thing to happen. But you're right it's definitely a good thing compared to the alternatives. Regarding safety of funds, that still depends on how you secure it, if you're lackadaisical about your security and just store your bitcoin in an exchange like Binance or in any wallet where you don't have the keys to the wallet then you've got the most flimsiest of security in your coins.

I don't think bitcoin alone would be enough to save you from a financial crisis, remember that there's going to more things happening around during a financial crisis, if you don't have a large or colossal bitcoin nest egg, then you're going to still feel the pains of financial crisis because you're going to need a job which is lacking when there's a financial crisis.

1252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can third-world countries counter inflation using bitcoin? on: September 23, 2023, 08:24:53 AM
Bitcoin is an asset, and like other assets could be used as an investment, this is the best way I like people to view Bitcoin, not as a hedge/counter against inflation, or else it might break the heart of many during the bearish season.

Economists have now started adding the clause that asset has their gaining moments and losing moments as well, and at times, when the investor needs the money might be the bearish times, so the gain is not guaranteed. Imagine those who purchased Bitcoin with this inflation-countering mentality in 2021 and needed the money for a crucial project this year. Their lot is obvious even without saying further as they might have lost half of their money by now.

The inflation peg mentality might work in the long term (even though we're still all hoping, there is no guarantee), we should learn how to manage our risks in Bitcoin, people also lose via it.
Bitcoin is mostly associated to the dollar, if the price of bitcoin increases, you don't look at it in your local currency because you immediately look at it's value in dollar and local currency is mostly pegged to dollar and it's the likely currency that you want to have if you want to grow what you own in local currency so I think in a way, bitcoin is a hedge to inflation although it's not a good idea to use it when you're trying to solve inflation on a nation scale, pretty sure that only few people are going to benefit from doing that thing so steer clear.

In regards to how bitcoin can solve inflation in a third-world country, I think that bitcoin wouldn't make any difference or significant change to that problem because most third-world country that's experiencing high and uncontrollable inflation are countries that have incompetent leaders and officials, if you root out corruption and place competent and smart people on the important seats in the government, you can easily see changes but given that not a lot of people has done this in these countries, I am not entirely that purging the corruption might be the solution.
1253  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Building my own HODL service for lazy friends/family on: September 23, 2023, 01:45:30 AM
I have seen people who sold "metal" engraved paper wallets and/or Casascius coins, which is physical bitcoins with a stored private key that are generated by a computer...seemingly without the creator knowing what the Private key is that are generated.  Roll Eyes

I prefer to do everything myself and not to trust anyone else with my Private key.... but I will help family members if they want me to help them. I will not sell my services, because people will blame me if something goes wrong and the private key are hacked.  Wink
Me too and with the Yogg incident, I think that it's time to rethink on how we approach our way of storing bitcoins because if I am being honest, we've been far too complacent about how we store our bitcoins that we forgot that we should be involved in every step of the way. With this service, even if they're a family member, I don't think that I would trust them with these service because when greed comes in the way, family or blood relations don't matter much.
1254  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Sypheon Online on: September 21, 2023, 08:27:11 AM
This is so cool, I love such games, though if this is indeed a game? I couldn't find a link to the site/ app.
It would be nice if  you could share more details about this project other than cinematic scenario narration.
You want this kind of game? You can check out EVE Online because this is what this game is copying, didn't even bother changing the name scheme, just removed the "EVE" part then added Sypheon Online and knowing the gameplay of EVE Online, you're better off playing that game because EVE Online is grind intensive in terms of time and money and even if you spent a lot of time playing that, you will still not be able to guide noobs in that game because it's a really complicated game.
1255  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinSnack.com Help needed for Bitcoin Vending Machine on: September 21, 2023, 01:51:32 AM
I love your vision of a global adoption but it sounds vague to me. Just putting the Bitcoin logo on a vending machine does not impress me. Asking for a donation of $1 or $10 makes me question your integrity. I do not think you are actually looking for investment in your project. I believe you are trying to scam people by using the word donation. I might be wrong too, that is why I would like advice to first come up with a prototype of your concept and then look for investors.
OP would have provided a prototype of the machine or even a detailed image of the project if it was a real thing, this is the Internet after all, so it's normal that someone will be skeptic when someone is asking for a donation especially in a forum where everyone has a heightened sense when it comes to scams. Definitely showing a prototype or the concept on how the vending machine works because I assume that it will not just accept bitcoin or crypto but also cash too.

If I am being honest, I don't think that anyone's going to donate you anything, they won't get anything out of it anyway and the only time I see someone do a donation in this forum is if it helps the forum or bitcoin big time. Don't keep your hopes up OP, people here aren't kind to strangers who ask for alms, charity and beneficence doesn't exist here.
1256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not banned, yet not accepted on: September 18, 2023, 06:19:44 AM
Those people that uses bitcoin or has it while the law states that it's banned and any use of it are breaking the law. They're aware that Bitcoin is banned there but they're also aware that they can't be traced because it's not gonna happen unless there are already some samples of it. Like publicly reported and caught due to it. As long as there's no one that has been caught by the law and it says that it's banned, they'll keep using it as long as there are ways of doing it.
I have friends that are working in Cybercrime divisions and let me tell you that one slip up on bitcoin transactions and they're able to find out who you are especially if the bitcoin that was tracked was converted to fiat they can just do some tech stuff that they are expert in and from there it's easy to identify who is the person.

In my country, bitcoin is still a grey area when it comes to the discussion of it's legality because the Senate and other government bodies that are involved in this kind of discussion hasn't raised up that topic yet although the police and cybercrime divisions warn people from time to time the different kinds of scams that are using cryptocurrency but that's all there is to it. I hope that they're too busy to make some discussion on it because I kind of like the freedom that bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general is still in the grey area in my country.
1257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Knowledge vs hodlings on: September 17, 2023, 09:16:05 AM
The most basic and helpful advice I have read here for newbies that just got into bitcoin and is looking for where to start from is you don’t need to know everything about bitcoin before you can start investing, just learn how to buy and how to not lose your coins” I have forgotten who wrote this text but I feel that newbies that want to just hold bitcoin don’t need to start learning the technical part of bitcoin, just start with security and keep your coins safe.
Totally agree, before dealing with the complexities of the matter getting into it first should be the one that they should worry about because they haven't even tried it yet, it's like cooking, you don't have to worry about the spices and how long you're going to mix it, ready your mise en plus and start the fire first. The thing that they should always remember as a newbie is that deal with it when you're finally encountering it.
1258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some Countries living behind their century, taking a back sit on BTC evolution. on: September 15, 2023, 10:04:15 AM
There are other reasons why a country is set back and I think that thinking that bitcoin is a major cause of them is kind of stupid. One good example would probably be war, famine or even a corrupt regime. Bitcoin is just a small drop if you compare it to ocean which is the problem that a country faces that causes it to set back.
1259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I took a proposal to my State Governor to accept Bitcoin Technology on: September 15, 2023, 03:58:35 AM
A child in Secondary school is more than qualified to have some information about bitcoins. It can really help them to make decisions earlier. If the state has a young governor who understands the benefits that the knowledge of bitcoins and cryptocurrency will have on the children of the state will not delay in accepting this proposal to have it introduced to secondary school students. I really like it. When I joined this forum, I was inspired to make promotional stickers for bitcoin, it helped a lot of people, this your initiative and plan will help a lot more people and a good thing is that it is from an early age.
I don't know about that, I feel like bitcoin is a pretty specific topic and it's really unlikely that a child would be able to understand it even if we were careful about the terms that we are using for teaching them. Maybe basics in reading and reading comprehension first before putting them into something like this.

It's an outstanding thing to do OP to be able to have a conversation with your governor about this topic, Nigeria is such an excellent country because iirc, it's been active in crypto space and the crypto users in there are steadily growing, I don't have the data to back it up though but a governor supporting bitcoin is a milestone for Nigeria since the influence is state wide.
