1461  Economy / Economics / Re: The Role of Education in Financial Literacy on: May 14, 2023, 02:13:00 PM
On the other hand, some argue that education in finance and economics does not necessarily equate to financial literacy. They point out that many successful investors are self-taught, and that practical experience is the best teacher.
I'm in this group. I believe lessons from experience are of more use than whatever knowledge that's derived from books. Book knowledge is overrated and that's why many have erroneously labelled formal education as a scam. If it weren't so, those who went to school to acquire financial literacy are supposed to be among the wealthy but that's not so. The top richest men in my country aren't that financially literate. They learnt that on the job and not from any four walls of a tertiary institution.

1463  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Miners Should Consider the Lower Transaction Fees on: May 13, 2023, 10:43:37 AM
Let the lower transaction should be charged less and the very big whale transactions should be done according to the unit.
Even this which you advocate here is status discriminatory. It's like saying whales transacting should be punished for dealing heavily as if being rich shouldn't be what we all have to look up to. Anyway, on a serious note though, we know all transactions aren't charged the same. A few years ago I came to realize that it's pointless worrying over transaction confirmations as they will eventually scale through, though late.
1464  Economy / Services / Re: [$50/week] 1/3 signature ad spaces + avatar available (Avg. 30+ posts per week) on: May 12, 2023, 05:27:27 PM
~

I don't quite understand what this is about. In your example signature, you are currently advertising two competing mixers.

I can't imagine that such an advertisement is attractive for a service if the competition appears only a few pixels next to your own advertisement.
It's a pilot scheme, so to say, and OP is only using those samples to pass his message across. However, projects trying to rent OP's logo space will know how best to go about setting it up. There are always rules and regulations governing every campaign and I don't see how what OP is proposing won't have its own rules too. While I see this as a paradigm shift and believe some campaigns should give it a try, I'm worried that it's likely going to be very hard for OP to get patronage seeing that they aren't a household name here. There are users here projects will be willing to experiment that sort of thing with but I ain't sure OP has such weight and visibility to pull.
1465  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What are the possible solutions of underdeveloped countries problems? on: May 12, 2023, 04:14:30 PM
Kelward, you've got your quotation wrong as you placed your comment inside Hispo's post. It's obvious your comment is in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs...

Quote
With all due respect to your view in this topic, i don't think that you are from Africa. Most of the countries in Africa are underdeveloped today because of bad leadership, corruption in high places...Although I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Find a way to edit your post to set it right.
1466  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's nice to be back here. on: May 10, 2023, 04:54:39 PM
Please what is the difference between bitcoin and altcoin?
Let me simplify it for you to the maximum explanation – Every other cryptocurrency apart from Bitcoin is called an altcoin. Bitcoin is on a class of its own while others are yolked together as altcoin.
1467  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] [banned mixer] - CoinJoin Mixer | Sig Campaign | Up to 0.0036 BTC/W on: May 10, 2023, 02:26:23 PM
So, you think it will take more time to be confirmed a transaction that's already been confirmed?  Grin
I guess what they meant by that was for it to be withdrawable. Awaiting confirmation signifies "still pending" and can't be withdrawn or spent 🤔

BTW, this whole Bitcoin congestion stuff will even discourage the lilly hearted from coming into this industry. After all, government isn't the only bane of Bitcoin mass adoption. This is also a minus for Bitcoin.
1468  Economy / Economics / Re: Looking for online investment method for 50$ daily on: May 09, 2023, 08:02:05 PM
Is there online investment that return 50$ daily
In 2017, during the era of "Lending Coins" there were many investments like that which allowed one earn passively. I can remember the Bitconnectcoin (BCC) investment plan then which churned out daily returns to those who patronised it until it shutdown. I ain't sure today that there's any easy low cost investment that can do that now and allow you earn passively.

Is there online investment that return 50$ daily
You can invest your time in bitcointalk and receive 50 weekly in signature campaigns.
What you're suggesting to OP is below what they're asking – $50 daily. Again, we wouldn't call earnings in signature campaigns an investment. We can at best describe it as an incentive.
1469  Other / Meta / Re: Restrict newbies from posting in the lending board? on: May 09, 2023, 06:51:09 PM
Issues of life and life unending problems know no ranks, creed or age. Though I find it amusing whenever I stumble on posts by newbies asking for loans here (as I know most of them aren't genuine), I still believe it's within their limit to exercise that right to ask. I like how theymos allows newbies breathing space here. I'm sure he knows what he's doing with that. We all were once noobs, newbies, greenhorns, novices and amateurs like them before we got to where we're today. I think the greater responsibility and discretion should lie with the veterans or high ranked members who are going to be lending to these newbies seeking loans. They should be able to sieve through to know those who are genuine and those who aren't and do the needful with such discernment.
1470  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's nice to be back here. on: May 09, 2023, 05:48:56 PM
I stopped my crypto journey way back last year because of so many losses and got busy with my school works
Welcome back to the forum, and learning too. Your decision to round up your formal education is a right decision; first thing first. Notably, your hiatus wasn't for a long time and I believe you will catch up with what has transpired here in your absence. Talking about what your friend has shown you as dividends from his investment in cryptocurrency, I hope you will tread carefully believing him hook, line and sinker.

Remember that it's not all that glitters that's gold. Most of these people who display the supposed luxury acquisitions as dividends of crypto earnings aren't truthful. I ain't saying people don't hit it big in cryptos. Of course people do but most of those who do make it big like to lie low.
1471  Other / Meta / Re: History of local boards on: May 09, 2023, 05:01:10 PM
  • Added Nigeria local board. Not sure when theymos created it.
It was created in the early hours of December 21st, 2022 as evidenced in Congratulations everyone, we made it, welcome to the Nigerian (Naija) Local board. It indeed was a symbolic Xmas gift to the Nigerian community that came at its due time. We woke up to it and the entire community was agog with excitement.
1472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dumping ground on: May 09, 2023, 04:29:00 PM
Many altcoins are dumping ground, after the project is launched people invest massively on it, they will carry out a burn and the burn will have no meaningful bulls
This is why you shouldn't rely on what project teams say about burning after launch. Look at the usecase for the project before you put your money down on it. If the project is on an already saturated area, steer clear. It's going to end up as junk and then get abandoned. If it's on something you feel is unrealistic, you avoid it also. Stay moderate.

Quote
...then àfter a while the project became dormant like one and only Africa project called "wakanda" I guess many are victims and aware of this falsehood and fake project.
Right from the word go, I knew Wakanda was a scam project just like the one before it Zugacoin by another African called Sam Zuga. BTW, so you know; Wakanda isn't the only crypto project by an African. There are several others.

Quote
Please which altcoin is currently the hotcake with bright future ahead?
While this will be very hard to point out, I will advise you to only invest in altcoins with reasonable blueprint and roadmap. If you can't stomach the loss that may result from such investment in alts, it's better to stay with Bitcoin.
1473  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Avoid Ponzi/Ponzi scheme is a scam on: May 09, 2023, 12:05:08 PM
~snipped~
I almost lost my money too with Centra (I thought it was late for me to invest in MCO and I bought CTR in the pre-sale instead trusting in the potential of the project: really bad mistake in retrospective).
Lucky you for escaping the complete entrapment. I wasn't that lucky. However, I count the sad experience I had with the project as one of those things we need to go through in this industry to develop a thick skin. I've since moved on but never will I ever get deceived again because a celebrity or influencer advertised a project and then I blindly buy into it.

Quote
And, about ETN, I didn't lose any money, but a lot of my time, because I invested several hours translating their Whitepaper, one of my hardest works so far.
Time is (also) money, remember.

Quote
Anyway, none of these projects were ponzis: managers from Centra were caught misleading investors by announcing agreements with VISA that didn't exist
What is Ponzi then if it's not deceit and misleading people to believing what is not? ETN also made a lot of unbelievable promises about its projects feasibility and usage. Nonetheless, I still get the drift of your comment.
1474  Other / Meta / Re: How much Merit have you given/ received? I'm gonna need about tree fiddy on: May 09, 2023, 10:48:41 AM
Despite this warning and/or encouragement to spend smerits, there are people who never spends their smerits and they have never been penalised for not spending their smerits, it doesn't also stop them from receiving new merits and funny enough, no earned  smerit has ever been decayed Grin
Perhaps that's the reason no one is fretting that theymos' warning could be carried out eventually. Nonetheless, it's a selfish idea to hoard merit since it doesn't also even benefit the user hoarding it. What's the need then?

From https://bpip.org/Profile?p=Tread93 data, OP has earned a total of 350 merits and has despatched a total of 161 merits to 52 profiles. That leaves OP with 350 – (161*2) = 350 – 322 = 28.
1475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The world and bitcoins: the matter of global acceptance on: May 09, 2023, 08:12:18 AM
Even though I struggle so hard not to accept the fact that this is not an AI-generated text
I don't think it's an Al. I only hope the OP referenced the source if they actually took any part of their post from an article. That's just my concern so they don't get quizzed for plagiarism.

Remember never to use Bitcoin vs cryptocurrency interchangeably because the two represent different things even though one of them can be referred to as the general world
In generic term, Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency. We can't shy away from that truth. I know the Bitcoin maxis don't like such definition as they want Bitcoin to stand alone. We can't really help but to classify it properly.

Quote
So at this point, Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency ...
You see? We can't really help it.

1477  Other / Meta / Re: [Workaround] Automatically Save Text Written In Bitcointalk Editor on: May 08, 2023, 05:58:11 PM
I don't like to use those extensions because I prioritize my safety and security on my device first.

Convenience is not my priority as I can manually do it with Notepad, Word and so on. No need to use extensions which can save my time but it is not too much to sacrifice safety and security. A few seconds to copy and paste to save a draft is not annoying with me.

Browser extensions: more dangerous than you think
This is just me! I'm highly skeptical trying extensions because I never can tell what might give my security out. It's not going to be a stress for me to manually save my composition while at it. I rather accommodate that (if it's thought to be any inconvenience) than bridge my security. Yes, I admit that it's stressful when one gets unfinished posts wiped off because they aren't saved automatically. It happened several times to me in the past but better safe than sorry.
1478  Other / Archival / Re: [Merit] Help newbies and those who have a little left to the next rank on: May 08, 2023, 02:00:30 PM
Can I apply it I am newbies
I wanted to merit you just now. I went through your posts but didn't find anything constructive in them except bounty reports. I guess that's also why no one has merited your posts till now. You've to move away from bounty reports to receive merit. It's a decision you've to make. The ball is now in your court.
1479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long the high transaction fees will last? on: May 08, 2023, 12:43:43 PM
I thought maybe I was the only one facing this high transaction fee and never knew it was general, because I started to notice this high transactions fee since last week Friday when I wanted to transfer 0.001 BTC (#12,976) from my Trust wallet into my Binance account where I could sell using p2p into my local currency, and I notice the fee which is most times between the range of #300 to #500 has skyrocketed to #3000, which was way too high and for that reason, I didn't transfer the funds hoping that by today the fee might have gone down, but only for me to check this morning and noticed the fee has gone too high  4x from #3000 to #10,263 as transfer fee, of which with this current high fee, I don't think I will be touching my Bitcoin anytime soon.
I guess the whole thing took everyone by surprise when it started. For the first time in my transaction history I paid $12 as fee to send out Bitcoin four days ago and that was even after waiting two days for it to abate. It had never happened to me before. Though I would've avoided it if it weren't for the unstable nature of the billing on my wallet. Charges fluctuated between priorities. I chose what was less than $1 only for it to register $12 immediately I sent it out. I felt bad and cheated. Now if I've to send out again while this whole thing lingered, I'm using custom billing to set the charge.

In the following month I was crazy. Full of revenge, I thought of all the ways how to make my capital money that was lost at that time come back through the next trade
No trader takes revenge on the market and survives it. The market is the master and traders are the slaves. We go whither the market wants us to go. Doing otherwise often results to grave consequences.

Don't rush, Enjoy the process. And if it's steady and ready to trade. Do it carefully, use SL and TP, be grateful for the profit, even if it's small, rather than a big loss. Don't be Greedy!
That's the gospel truth and it should be imbibed by anyone who wants to be counted successful in trading. Trading should be taken as a profession and a long term career, not as a shortcut to any self aggrandizement.

Random use of lots, entered without research, blind to news.
That's often the issue with emotional trading and not sticking to a trading plan. At the end, the trader who indulges what you listed there end up paying dearly for that.
