1621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you Think might aid the global adoption of Bitcoin? on: April 02, 2023, 08:04:47 PM
It's better to have the people get slowly accustomed with the ins and outs of bitcoin rather than forcing them to immediately switch into the cryptocurrency. That wouldn't sit well for bitcoin, and for these people we in the first place aim to help out. So how do we aid and hasten global adoption then? Simple, information campaigns. As of the moment the world is more aware of what the hell bitcoin is than compared to years ago, most especially during the early days of bitcoin, so the next step is to reinforcing this acquaintance with bitcoin into full-on knowledge about the coin by giving the public free and accessible avenues for learning what bitcoin really is about. Plus there also has to be some sort of incentive from attending and absorbing these lessons, coz surprise surprise people are apparently more motivated to learn if they get something of valaue from listening. Employ all of these tactics and you'll for sure be able to contribute greatly to helping bitcoin advance.
1622  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: +0.54056624 BTC Scam mail on: April 02, 2023, 06:54:10 PM
I guess the amount of newbies and relatively new members informing the public of bitcoin scams consequently increase in this forum everytime bitcoin rises in price yeah? Couldn't help but notice it coz I've been seeing posts like these a few too many these past few days. But I digress.

Rule of thumb, if it says anything from this list

  • Get bitcoin for free
  • bitcoin faucet
  • Free bitcoin
  • Earn bitcoin through surveys
  • Earn bitcoin

And something along these lines, stay away from them. They are most likely out to scam and steal money from you, so stay away.

I am not particularly educated about the rules of Islam as I am not a Muslim myself but if I do remember (and correct me if I'm wrong) you guys are strictly prohibited from gambling, illegal profiteering, and imposing interest rates upon purchases. With all that being said I do think bitcoin is able to at least avoid all those pointers and is thus allowable in the Muslim culture, but I respect oldies who think it should be haram (am I using the word right?) as then again, I am not a Muslim.

But all in all, it is up to you to decide. I've had a few Muslim friends who invested in assets and in particular, bitcoin, they say it's not prohibited per se, so they are good to go.
1624  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Skill Based Slot Machines on: April 01, 2023, 05:13:15 PM
You'll really see who's read the article and who's not. The fact that the term skill-based is so widely accepted to be about the player's skill and nothing else is such a clickbait for this kind of slot games.

So basically for those who didn't have the time to read the article quoted in the main post, the term skill-based slot game is a massive misnomer, as it doesn't really talk about the player's skill having some effect on the game outcome, rather, the slot will give the player a bonus, called a "skill" that he/she can use in order to amp up the profits he could rake. Keep note, it doesn't increase his chances of winning anything, nor does it help the player in any way whatsoever to secure said profits. The gambling industry is such a deceitful world but I never expected them to stoop this low, literally baiting people into thinking that the player will have some agency over his win.
1625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Neymar Loses €1M in Casino in Just an Hour on: April 01, 2023, 04:14:06 PM
I don't think he should be persecuted for having such a positive mindset after losing a wad of money. If anything that is commendable because anyone would've been rabid at the sight of a million euro loss. That being said I know his pay has something to do with how he reacts otherwise this wouldn't have been the case I reckon but at the same time if you convert this into a random joe losing a week's pay over a gamble, how would he react to such loss, right?

So for me, this is just normal, if not even commendable, the media portrays this as a bad thing even though he displayed calm andd collected demeanor at the sight of a loss that major.

Poor people get addicted to gambling very easily. Since they don’t have the brains to get rich
This is such a skewed and narrow vision of why the poverty problem. If all poor people don't have the brains to get rich you won't have any rags to riches stories. That's just dumb. Plus there's a ton of people who started from nothing and eventually worked their way up the social ladder, to think that all poor people resort to gambling just because they don't have the brains to make it out of their situation is stupid.

Plenty of poor clever people exist.   A lack of variety or experience in large gains would make the gambling larger then life so be more disruptive perhaps.   A rich person in theory is gambling a lower percentage of their net worth, a greater amount of wealth is not liquid so cannot be gambled perhaps.   The poorer parts of an economy or population tend to have far higher worth in purely cash positions, weekly wages etc. so in that sense more harm is possible.   Poor people also suffer most from inflation for example.
Exactly. Poverty could be a big obstacle but that doesn't mean that the people who succumb to this is dumb, not trying hard enough, or worse, lazy and would rather die poor than work hard. Plenty of privileged people think that way and that irks me so much.
1627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot Tournaments - Ever Heard of it? on: March 31, 2023, 09:02:22 PM
That is a fun concept if I do say so myself coz there's nothing that's really stopping anyone from ever joining the game, coz slots in itself is a game that even newbies could get behind in due to the simplistic nature of the game, plus the fact that for the most part you can just walk in the casino, register and probably pay for some, and then compete. Plus it's fair since you guys are practically betting on your luck and not on any latent skill so no hustler or pro slot guy will ever come up to trash the whole competition.

Registration fees are fine by me because hey, you're playing with credits in place already so think of it as you gambling at the same time only now more competitively, but free registrations are of course always welcome by me.
1628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has anyone here tried Gambling Arbitrage? on: March 31, 2023, 08:08:08 PM
I personally don't support any form of cheating the house to win games because that just takes the fun out of the games you play and makes you look like a fool while you're doing it too. And this is why I do not condone and go highly against gambling for profit, it just keeps you away from the fun part and pushes you to do stuff like these.

Plus, a lot of sportsbook and will have you banned from using their services and probably have you blacklisted as well from other sportsbooks if they find out you're doing gambling arbitrage. So just don't do it. The risks far outweigh the benefits you may get and you'd look like an idiot doing it at the same time too.
1629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most likely category of people to become Gambling addicts. on: March 31, 2023, 07:30:24 PM
You will agree that some category of people will most probably become addicted to gambling if exposed to it than some other people. If you are the type that likes to refer and tell people to try out new things, you should avoid encouraging this category of people listed below to try out gambling even as a way to relax or for fun.

- Be careful introducing gambling to teens, especially young male teens.
Quote
Young people are more vulnerable to developing a gambling disorder than adults. According to the Journal of Child and Adolescent Behavior, around 5% of teenagers in the United States have problems with compulsive gambling. By contrast, only about 1% of adults have a severe gambling problem.
And there is a specific about "males" because
Quote
men are at a higher risk of compulsive gambling than women in all age groups. What accounts for this difference? One study found that men are more likely to take risks and experience social anxiety than women, contributing to problem gambling.
. source

- Be Careful introducing gambling to people with some certain "Personality Characteristics".
Quote
Certain personality traits are associated with a higher risk of developing a gambling addiction
Quote
individuals who are highly competitive or get bored easily may also be at higher risk of compulsive gambling.
People that you notice have a poor opinion of themselves,
Quote
low self-esteem connects to addictive behaviors, including compulsive gambling and substance use
source

- Be careful introducing gambling to people who have a good access to enough money and no discipline in spending, they may not mind gambling to win money, but for other reasons, and because of their good access to money, they may just become addicted without even knowing.

- Be careful introducing gambling to someone who you know is poor and needs a better way to earn a livelihood. The person may mistake gambling as a way to earn a living.

- Be careful introducing gambling to your friend who you know easily gets addicted to new things.

- Be careful introducing gambling to your friend who you know has a drug use problem.

In general, I know some forum users may like to respond saying we should be careful generally who we introduce gambling to, which is true, but since may not possibly be avoided, there are some categories of person's that we should be on the look out for in the society.

Join the discussion by extending the list if possible.

TL;DR, don't recommend gambling to people, especially those you know you wouldn't be able to persuade down the line when things get murky.

I don't recommend people to gamble at all, it is a personal preference that I will keep to myself and would never loop people into. If they ask if I gamble, sure I'll answer truthfully, maybe even teach them what games I play if they became so pressing about it. But to outright recommend gambling to people, that's just not my thing. For the most part, I wouldn't have control over the person, and I could become an outlet of their blame when things go south, on the other hand, I don't want to ruin a person's life over gambling. I do not know if they are as disciplined as me when it comes to losses, and I don't know if they could manage their losses as well as I do. So, I never tell people they should gamble, not even for any reason.
1630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your local gambling game that you didn’t see in the crypto casino on: March 31, 2023, 06:33:59 PM
It's not because the gambling site you're in is a little deaf to the people's requests because believe me, the online casino community has one of the most responsive people in the world. In any case the reason why these games, much I like to see them coz hey, I love me some chinese poker too every now and then, is the fact that these games only appear to a certain group of people and do not cater towards everyone. When you create a game in a casino setting, you have to be able to cater to a wider range of people that transcends against age, race, and location. These games are so ingrained in the Philippine psyche and society they pretty much owned these games too and would incite some reaction, good or not, if they were to see it being played in the casino.
1631  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is McLaren Good Or Redbull Good In F1 Racing? on: March 30, 2023, 06:08:47 PM
Redbull all the way. The performance that this team put out in previous seasons was nothing short of astounding so to speak. McLaren, although a good contender has never come close to beating Redbull (at least in my opinion) ever since 2010, so in this battle between two giants, I'd pick Redbull. This is highly opinionated and I know each team offers something to the table whether it be speed in the racetrack or speed in pitstop but so far, my money's gonna stay on Redbull.
1632  Economy / Gambling / Re: No bet is a waste on: March 29, 2023, 06:59:41 PM
No bet is a wasted bet if you're not betting to gain profits. The distinction here is that you'll have to be playing for fun, which I would argue is the best way you could gamble as it does not put the unnecessary pressure of winning the money over your shoulder. Therefore giving you a clearer head and better decision making. Every bet provides novel experiences that you could only experience from that particular stake. be it a win or a lose it definitely imparts something really remarkable, this is why we could talk about our best and worst bets in the first place.
1633  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can a casino ever run without the government's awareness? on: March 29, 2023, 05:56:26 PM
Illegal gambling dens exists for a reason. That's because there could be you silly!

Although in all seriousness. There have been a few sites and physical casinos that was able to operate for a long while until the authorities find out about their illegal operations and apprehended them. POGOs are the most common offenders in these categories as they could go under the police's radar for years on end before verifiable evidence could be collected.

There's also the case of roadside gambling, where a couple of blokes who can't find anything to do with their spare time wasting it away on some friendly gambling, until the number of backseat viewers and active gamblers increase, until a certain point has reached where the whole operation becomes grandiose and more accommodating.

But yeah, eventually the government will catch up.
1634  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which Sports do you like bet apart from the the listed one here? on: March 29, 2023, 05:20:51 PM
There's a couple of sports (I guess?) that I used to bet on in the past. Cockfighting for example, though not really a sport per se is one of those games that took most of my idle time in childhood and when I grew up, I took it upon myself to bet on some games there. I lost a couple, but won on much of them, so yeah good stuff.

Another game I'm really eager to have an organized betting system is Chess. Since it's gaining traction nowadays and is becoming more and more popular, a lot of people like me are really looking forward to bet on these games, regardless if I win or not. Apart from couch bets with friends and other people from the net that I came across with, no official or organized betting party was ever set for chess. at least none that I know of.
1635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Skill Based Slot Machines on: March 29, 2023, 04:37:50 PM
The term skill-based slot is a bit of a misnomer. I've read the article and nowhere does it say that the player's skills are involved in securing profits for themselves, only that through these "skill-based slot games", they'd be able to use an ability or a powerup per se every now and then, which goes towards amping the amount of profit one can receive, but never really helping the player in any way whatsoever with securing said profits.

This is a massive clickbait for me, and most likely for most of the people who looked into it coz the first impression one can have upon hearing "skill-based slot games" is a slot game where they completely control the outcome of the game in some way. Which this is clearly not. So no, i don't necessarily recommend it, but people can try.
1636  Other / Off-topic / Re: There are A lot of Scammers on Internet than any other platform on: March 26, 2023, 07:01:39 PM
Only makes sense for the internet and adjacently bitcoin to be the festering ground for these scammers. It's the scammer's dream after all, limited traceability, easy transaction, and more. At this point it's become a rite of passage for some to be hacked before they make it in this industry which I know, shouldn't even happen in the first place. But at the end of the day, if you don't protect yourself from these bad actors, bitcoin or not you will get targeted. So as with all these guys who commented on your post I implore you to restrict people from messaging you at all, the benefits outweigh the risks in this case, and always make sure that you don't belligerently click on anything suspicious, no matter who asks you to click it.
1637  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does your country tax your gambling winnings? on: March 26, 2023, 06:06:10 PM
Most governments will. USA's PowerBall and the Grand Lotto of the Philippines all tax their winners upon claiming of the prize. That's pretty normal.

But as for online gambling, I have no idea. Most of these games and casinos operate globally anyway, and are decentralized so they cover a vast range of countries but at the same time not bound by these countries' legislations and ordinances. So in the case of if I'm getting taxed for my gambling wins, other than the Purchase Tax I pay for when I buy stuff and services from the winnings I earn, I don't get taxed from it at all.
1638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Signature Bank didn't collapse. It got killed. [SEC Vs Crypto] on: March 25, 2023, 08:41:13 PM

He also said that there were government surveys to banks asking them if their bank exposes their clients access to crypto. Signature Bank and SVB must have been the top crypto-friendly banks.

Several channels are talking about chokepoint 2.0 and if you closely analyze also what SEC is doing, it will make sense as well.  It's known to us that the government doesn't like other currencies they couldn't control and while they can try crushing the existence of crypto in the meantime, they will do it.

This is just horrible, a massive crackdown against cryptocurrency usage to sway people into investing into government-sanctioned assets and bonds? That's just disgusting and a foul play at best. I do hope that the general public wins against this arms race but I doubt it considering the choke hold that SEC has over most banks and firms in the country. US will know to realize how beneficial cryptocurrency is to their dying economy if the crackdown ensues and crypto is completely shut off from the country, coz I doubt people and entities that use crypto will retain operations over a country that would like to regulate it for the sake of personal gain. I guess it's time for the cryptocurrency industry to look outside of US and find other countries to support, third-world countries are looking rather ripe right now considering that most of them are cryptocurrency-friendly to begin with.
1639  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You Consider Adding Bitcoin to Your Retirement Savings on: March 25, 2023, 06:58:49 PM
I may consider adding bitcoin as part of my retirement plan but not solely surround it with bitcoin, because everything is a gamble with cryptocurrencies considering their high volatility rate and I couldn't just take that bet considering that retirement savings are supposed to last me until I die. So for the hell of it and a little sentimentality since it helped me a lot, I may own a couple bitcoins regardless of their price point by the time I turn 60, but then focus my retirement fund on fiat since I know for sure it's something I could rely on. When you're working for your retirement savings, profit isn't supposed to be your concern, it should be "Will this money last me enough till I die?" Or "Will this money be enough for my kids/inheritors to last them for a long while?"
1640  Economy / Economics / Re: Replacement? on: March 25, 2023, 06:17:14 PM
The possibility of money being digitized as we progress as a species is quite real, but I don't think blue-chip cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum are the ones that will spearhead this movement. They are as volatile as it can be, and their low supply means they couldn't accommodate to the ever-growing population of people who would one day use money for everyday things. Pretty positive that a digital version of money will be available, or maybe even a usable stable coin that could be used for purchases and not just as a pegged cryptocurrency in exchanges.
