17482  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fatal error in ‘wedding party’ drone strike prompts UN condemnation on: January 06, 2014, 07:34:59 PM
Why is it immoral?

Unlimited immigration might be immoral. But that has happened ever since the 15th century. Native Americans constitute only a small fraction of the population in all the countries within the North American and the South American continents as a result of this. Same with Australia also.

I don't think it's immoral, but it's not a good idea.

You're right, because every newspaper and every news broadcast and every political party takes the issue very seriously. This makes it a real issue, because if someone says something, it's automatically true.

That's propaganda and fear-mongering for you.
17483  Other / Off-topic / Re: The totally epic "I need to take a shit!" thread. on: January 06, 2014, 07:32:49 PM
I am at the airport right now and need to take a shit. Dont like to shit in public restrooms, plus i have my belongings with me. I dojt want to shit while holding 2 bags. Halp.

17484  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you spend your days doing if you didn't have to work ever again? on: January 06, 2014, 07:31:50 PM
Work.  Nobody can relax forever; to say you would is akin to saying you'd drink the ocean because you're thirsty Tongue

there are lots of peole who just relax, all day. i don't think i could handle it myself. but at the same time, you don't want to work too hard if you don't need to.

Yeah, I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about. You should emigrate to the UK and relax all day everyday on benefits. Bring all your friends and family too!

There is no one who has no desire, no skill, no hobby, no interests, makes no progress, and still leads a happy, fulfilled life.  Anyone who does this is very depressed and unhealthy and would, upon overcoming whatever it is holding them back, begin to work again. It's extremely shortsighted to believe people on welfare, whom I assume you allude to, enjoy being leeches; there is nothing fulfilling about this position in life, and no man aspires to be there.

I'm currently on these benefits after being made redundant so I'm well aware of both sides of the spectrum. There are plenty of people who game the system their entire life and are happy and in some cases even proud to do so, but there are also many who are not proud to be receiving hand outs or free money. Whether they are fulfilled or truly happy or not I do not know.
17485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chipmunk bitcoin sponser - maybe on: January 06, 2014, 07:25:01 PM
I dont know how many of you have heard of the rapper Chipmunk (from the UK). My bro has connection with his DJ. I have spoken to him and there might be a chance he might mention bitcoin in his tracks. Fingers crossed (NOT as big a jay z or anything but its a start)

Isn't he just known as 'Chip' now? And I'm not sure how reliable this info or source is though.
17486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Takeaway.com accepting bitcoins :) on: January 06, 2014, 07:23:00 PM
I hadn't seen any notice of this and not really sure how long they have been accepting but i think it should be bigger news than it is.

I have just ordered my dinner from a takeaway registered with them and looking forward to my first meal paid for in crypto. Smiley Just wish it was delivered with drones in 10 minutes  Grin

If you are in the UK check out the site, there is loads of choice and bitcoin makes it nice and easy to pay obviously. takeaway.com

Yeah, it's been mentioned several times, but I'm surprised it isn't more popular. I'd like to buy something with my coins, but I'm a miser and a hodler  Grin.

What did you order?

Haha at Goat's new name. Can donators change their names or something?

Vip people can. Only 50 btc pay directly to theymos.

Jesus. Has it always been 50BTC? Thought it would've gone down with the recent prices. Who's gonna pay 50BTC now?

People who really really like to troll? :/

Haha, well they must like to troll a hell of a lot to front that kind of cash  Cheesy.
17489  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is not a currency and should not be considered as one. on: January 06, 2014, 07:06:07 PM
Regardless of whether Bitcoin is not a currency or should not be considered a currency it is in fact being used as a currency.  It is also being used as an asset and a security and an store of value... etc.

No stopping it regardless of what the armchair economic theorists say.

Exactly. Would you be worried about government involvement if people started using potatoes as currency?
17490  Other / Off-topic / Re: Taking the forum on a trip to Mexico! on: January 06, 2014, 06:58:24 PM
You know you want some of that taco.. and to butter up that culo.

I literally don't know what that means.
17491  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is not a currency and should not be considered as one. on: January 06, 2014, 06:55:34 PM

For me it is not a currency and we should not buy common goods with it.

For the free market to stay free, it should not be considered as a currency, because government will be able to tax you for it.

For me the real purpose of bitcoin, and were it has actual intrinsic (maybe intrinsic is not the right word, but you get me) value, is that bitcoin is to money, what money is to common goods.

Who are you to decide what is and isn't money? You sound like a government. I think the people and users will decide whether it's a currency or not, and I vote it is.
17492  Economy / Economics / Re: Chinese are buying THOUSANDS of BTC. Did I miss some news? on: January 06, 2014, 06:52:13 PM
BTCChina started selling "gift cards" at stores.  You buy them and use the code and they allow that amount of dollars on the exchange.

Chinese are smart, they know how to move money around, its not rocket science to avoid these regulations. Just another step.

The main thing is BTC is perfectly legal to trade. And LTC :-)

Those sneaky smart Chinese Bastards. That;s a great way of getting round restrictions.

Haha, I've always said people will find a way around bans or restrictions so it's futile as people will always find a way to capitalise on prohibition.

I find it odd they even permit people to sell bitcoin on eBay...

I betcha there is something going on, gradually, behind the scenes.

They don't permit it technically, but they don't seem to do much about it either or only on occasion.
17496  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Told you so, OverStock.com pushed price of Bitcoin over $1000 on: January 06, 2014, 06:30:37 PM
Overstock will be pushing it very soon, don't you worry.

I could see them backing out and just riding the free publicity they got.
17497  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie needing help! on: January 06, 2014, 06:29:28 PM
So I've tried installing BitcoinQT on my computer several times with the same result, it fills up my main SSD trying to catch up with the bitcoin server and I need a way to have it store that data on my storage drive.  My main boot drive is a 60GB SSD and before this it had aprox 10GB open but it filled fast as the program tried to get back in sync with the server.  I'm running Windows 7 x64 and would appreciate any help I can get!

Download a wallet that doesn't download the entire blockchain like Multibit etc.
17498  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advertising on: January 06, 2014, 06:27:26 PM
Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has a link to a forum thread or knows how one can buy ad space on Bitcointalk.org

Thanks

You could also try offering a sig campaign like PrimeDice etc does. Might even be cheaper than the forum ads. Take a look in the services section.
17499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about Feathercoin ? on: January 06, 2014, 06:17:05 PM
FTC is a solid coin and like ohters say it has big potential in the UK. And not like other coins that are not doing anything they are extremely active, not just on the internet but going to talks, meeting groups, evangelizing not just FTC but good cryptos in general. They really believe in the movement and they believe in getting many people to use their crypto and accept it. I think this coin is undervalued IMO, and i'm not a fanboy. When the dust settles with all these alts we'll see who remains, these guys will still be there.

As for investment i'd say they're more a long term investment, however high risk for ROI as any other crypto. I'd say invest in other alts that you feel will be HOT. Pump n dump alts took me from .3 BTC to 10+. Also getting in on new innovative alts good give return as well. ie: protoshares and nxt did it for me (wish i held on NXT would've made tripple).

Yeah, as far as active communities go and merchant adoption, FTC has probably the best of all the alts. The marketplace is a big plus too. I can't see any reason why FTC wont go back to £1-ish this year. If it does I'll have made a nice little profit.

Maybe an option to upload a QR code somewhere would be good. Maybe a clickable link on your profile that enlarges a QR code to scan in.
You can already set a bitcoin address in your profile.

Oh, thanks. Is there any way to make it viewable without putting it in your sig or profile?

You can put it in your 'Personal Text' part where I've got my 'you what, mate?'.
