1921  Other / Meta / Do source's smerit allowance increase if the sources are doing a respectable job on: May 06, 2018, 01:14:11 AM
Probably. Theymos said that the amount of sMerits each source has per month isn't static and that he will adjust it a lot.

By no means is the set of merit sources or their sMerit/month static. I will be adjusting it a lot as needed, especially in the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 100-200 sources in a year from now.

My friend was made aware that the amount of smerits could increase upon review. However, my friend was under the impression that this would only be once a month or longer. My friend swears that the increase seems to be gaining momentum. Maybe, he is just overwhelmed. He wants to do a good job, but he's beginning to feel like Lucy and Ethel at the chocolate factory.

1922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 06, 2018, 12:59:03 AM
Can someone clarify this for me since I was so gravely misinformed? I thought Equihash uses a great deal of memory and that it was supposed to deter ASIC manufacturing since the ram requirements would make the machine uneconomically. Did Zooko lie to us, or just didn't really think this through?
1923  Other / Meta / Do source's smerit allowance increase if the sources are doing a respectable job on: May 06, 2018, 12:53:50 AM
I am asking for a friend. My friend is not quite certain, but it appears to him that the amount of smerits coming daily seems to be increasing. Is this on some kind of automated process, or is someone manually turning up the volume because my friend is doing an adequate job. Or does my friend simply not have their figures straight?
1924  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Why doesn't Trump arrest hillary and put her in jail for life? on: May 06, 2018, 12:25:13 AM

Trump must be influential to you otherwise you wouldn't have posted random fud here.
I think that if that happens, someone may hack a lot of Trump's devices and get far evidence for crimes far worse than Hillary has ever done.

And there would be an uprising in the US (potentially causing a civil war) - besides, I thought America was supposed to be a free country with free speech. If you arrest someone for simply going against you in an election you become a dictator - then what? An end to elections in the US, Trum is the permenant president until he dies and then that goes to whomever he states to start their lifelong term running one of the richest countries in the world.

I would be nice if he picked Ivanka Trump to be his successor. At least she is nice to look at. Cheesy (PS; I'm a gay male, but I know a good looking woman when I see one.) The election for President is a joke anyway. Why should the vote of someone who lives in Wyoming be more powerful than one who lives in California. I know all of the safeguards where put in place so that the smaller population states don't get run over by the will of the larger population states, but this is ridiculous. At least the states do now take into consideration a popular vote when advising their electoral collage delagates on who to vote for. But as we see, some electoral college delegates go rogue anyway.
1925  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bismuth rewards from testnet participation on: May 05, 2018, 05:15:59 AM

May 1, 2018 Update:
Total amount of remaining dev rewards block 90001-624158: 700,000, out of that, 350,000 will be distributed to testers, 350,000 to the lead developer
Tier I total rewards (70%): 245000 = 39200 per person, 5x + 49000/3 for jimhsu (5000), EggdraSyl (22000) and gh2 (22000)
Tier II total rewards (20%): 70000 = 1842 per person, 38x
Tier III total rewards (10%): 35000 = 1521 per person, 23x

Am I reading this right?  Shocked 1842 coins is a very generous. I was happy just waiting for the 354.32576055 coins.
1926  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Do you think it is fair to save merits for low-ranked members? on: May 04, 2018, 10:11:28 PM
I was starting to use the strategy that the OP suggested. I wanted to be a good guy and help people rank up that deserve it. I was being really picky though on who exactly would get my 1 smerit. However, it appears that my smerits faucet is running over. Going to lower my criteria just a tad. Cheesy
1927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 04, 2018, 09:55:31 PM
I thought Equihash was supposed to be ASIC resistant due to the memory requirements.  Angry Guess that is not the case. I guess the good news is that this ASIC is only about 12x as efficient as a 1070 instead of 100s or thousands of times more efficient. Oh well, I only am mining with one 1070 anyway that is part of my desktop. Maybe I can get into gaming instead.  Cheesy

If the solution to global warming was "oh shit, looks like we'll need to shut down governments and implement anarcho-capitalism to save the planet"...then I might be more inclined to believe the scientists that are paid by the government.

When the solution to global warming (science funded by governments) is "we need to give more power to governments" makes a fella go...hmmm....

The governments are just hedging their power. After all, the governments are largely in control of the fossil fuels. Shoot, governments are largely in control of almost all forms of energy.
Nuclear: Government controlled.
Hydroelectric: Government controlled.
If you truly want to have a chance of freeing yourself from government control, your best bet is solar or wind. No matter how hard they try, I do not see governments having any power over the supply of the wind or sunshine. Unfortunately, the governments have funded research in those as well.

do you have your privkey.der and pubkey.der backuped somewhere? then you can import them through "load wallet" button.

Thanks for the tip. I'm good to go now.

I'm confused on how to import my old private keys into the new wallet. Can my address be changed to the address of my new wallet b3a61bbe8f0d0f6b8eda0fb20c0f5230f025cb6a08db18d836ee051b? Or is it too late?

Edit: Nevermind original address good to go.

Is anyone responding to this topic a female? Quite frankly, men need to STFU when it comes to this topic.

Nonsense. SJW detected. That's like saying men can't have an opinion when a woman rapes or kills another person. I would like to think that if my partner was ever considering an abortion or not I would at least be able to share my opinion on the matter without just being told to STFU.

Well, naturally if you are intimately involved in the situation and will provide a stable enviroment for support when the child finally arrives, then a man should get some input.

I've staked two BTC addresses, so only a fool would buy my account.

If you stake your address, the offers for your legendary accounts will most probably stop.

Luxembourg will also invest in research and development for technologies needed to identify, extract, and process minerals, water, and other valuable space-based commodities.

Stop quoting fake news.  They aren't mining jack shit in space for a loooong time if ever because the cost of production would be enormous.  Your quote doesn't even pass an elementary common sense test when they talk about "mining water" in space.  We are not hard up enough for water where we need to spend $100,000 per gallon to mine it in space.

Even if some company like this is actually created, it's just like one of those shale oil companies they have people can invest in but will never ever turn a profit.  Even if gold was revalued to $20,000 and silver to $1000 tomorrow, it would probably still not be doable or profitable.  They would also mine somewhere like the ocean floor or Antarctica long before doing something like this.

Wouldn't even simply mining deeper be far more economical than space ventures as well? Not sure why people always go for the asteroid mining to argue that we can have a plentiful supply of PMs. Compared to an asteroid, the Earth is magnitudes of orders bigger. We've barely pecked the surface when it comes to mining.

My personal attempts at attempting to clone and modify code to create a shitcoin has given me a somewhat better understanding and appreciation of how Bitcoin works. Unfortunately, my attempts have been unsuccessful, since I really need a step by step guide to code "Hello, world." Probably much better for the community that I never succeeded.  Cheesy

So you weren't responsible for bones coin?

Nope, can't blame that one on me.  Grin

Bitcoin is about to take-off, there's a huge probability of it right now, it has broken the downtrend, once it does, proud owners of alts are gonna cry, again.

I am a proud owner of alts.

Bitcoin is like the Eiffel Tower - if you took away the buttressing it would fall down. ALts are the buttressing for bitcoin and if they disappeared bitcoin would fall down because difersification is an essential hedging aspect of any investment portfolio.

Also, although bitcoin is fine as an asset, it's technologically crippled and so alts are here to stay Wink

Here you go again with your periodic spreading of misleading retardedness.  Get the fuck out of here with your alt pumping and your attempt to suggest that alts are the dog rather than the tail.  The tail does not wag the dog...  Roll Eyes

The alts have come about due to a very important quality of Bitcoin: It is open source. Therefore, anyone can take the Bitcoin code, modify it any way they see fit and create an alt. You Bitcoin maximalists should stop dissing Bitcoin's progeny. Cheesy
1940  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Disadvantages of hardware wallets? on: April 21, 2018, 12:11:53 AM
1. Are there any disadvantages of using a hardware wallet?

There may be some vulnerabilities in the hardware or firmware that have not been detected. Also, your hardware wallet can become lost, stolen, broken or corrupted. It is very important to write down your seed words so that you can recoup your coins. The Trezor requires a 24 word seed. Unless you are going to memorize these words in the exact order, you will have to write them down. (electronic storage is not recommended.) However, then that piece of paper can become lost, stolen or destroyed. You will need to safeguard that piece of paper. You can make multiple copies and store them in multiple locations which will mitigate the seed from becoming lost or destroyed. The problem with multiple copies though is that it increases the chance of your seed getting stolen.

I have heard they make private key extraction difficult.
2. In what circumstances would you need a private key? What are private keys purpose?

Yes, the main reason you may want your private keys is to try and claim some of the hardfork coins. Also, you may want to generate a paper wallet with the private key to use at a Bitcoin ATM and claim cash on the spot. There are ways to claim hardfork coins with the seed. But then you will have to basically send coins to another location and then reset your hardware wallet with a new seed.
The private key is the sting of characters that allows you to spend your coins. It is cryptographically tied to the public key. The public key is the address you use to send coins to.

3. What happens when lose a hardware wallet?

If you have your seed(you should have written down the 20+ seed words), you can restore the wallet using another wallet program/hardware device. However, you may then want to move all of your coins to another location ASAP. If your hardware wallet is missing, you should assume the seed is compromised. None of the addresses generated by that seed can be considered safe.
