2481  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Indians moved 0ver $3.8B to foreign exchanges because of new crypto tax rules on: January 05, 2023, 08:47:04 AM
Once again governments being shortsighted instead trying to get as many people as possible to keep their money in the country and report their tax. Since I couldn't find it in the article, I am curious what was the previous %, before this 30% flat tax?

But I know that government will come up with new measures to find out all the details on foreign exchanges also.
Probably. And then people will try to find other ways to dodge paying.

The more I see situation around the world, the more I appreciate my country stance on crypto as over here (Croatia) our crypto tax is 10%, which goes to 0 if you can hold it for 2 years.
2482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 25th Seed Phrase on: January 05, 2023, 08:16:09 AM
even a latest hardware wallet. a hacker can simply set up a phished/emulating GUI display to show "error with device. to reset device please re enter your seed" or whatever their error pages look like to get people to type it in.
Are there any hardware wallets that actually ask you to do something like that in any circumstances? If yes, then that's a very dangerous thing to have. So far I've been using only Ledger and the only way to enter seed phrase was directly using the device and not via Ledger Live app so if any message like that pop up, Ledger users should know that it is a fake. Not that it would stop some people entering seed anyway.

This shows that we can't be safe if we do not know what we are doing.
This shows that you aren't 100% safe even if you know what you are doing (its safe to assume that person in question knew considering his experience). Since this guy wasn't anonymous, I don't think that this was just some random attack and instead he was targeted which is a different thing than just clicking on some malware link and losing your bitcoin that way. Then again, smart people can do stupid things so maybe this was a brainfart.

2483  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [CHARTS] Monthly Overview Of The official Nigeria Local Board📈 New Poll on: January 05, 2023, 08:00:17 AM
From my point of view of the poll, I will prefer the both because for the Meta board will give information to the forum members to know the activeness of the local board while posting it in the local board with the local language will also help those who are not too good with the British and American language to understand it better.
Since local board overview is mainly aimed at the members of that specific board, there's no reason to keep it in Meta. This was unique situation since Nigerians didn't have their own board and this topic served as another argument that they do deserve one so creating it initially in Meta made sense. Now that goal is achieved, there's no need for that anymore.

Voted for moving this topic to a Nigerian local board as I think that's more appropriate place. After all, members of others board that are doing similar overviews (myself included) are sharing these in their own local boards, not Meta.
2484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 14 years ago today, the first Bitcoin was mined. on: January 04, 2023, 05:47:12 PM
Many people hope that there are able to buy Bitcoin when its market price is still low without considering its low potential before. To those people who has the same mindset; just think of why there were people who traded their Bitcoin to a pizza, a man lost his hard drive containing huge amount of Bitcoin, and stories of the like. Simply because they were in doubt of this technology before and we cannot blame them.
I don't think that Laszlo Hanyecz (the guy who bought pizza with bitcoin) should be in the group of people who were in doubt of bitcoin, or that is the reason he got rid of it easily. If anything, he is one of the very first adopters as he actually used bitcoin for buying something tangible (and what's more tangible than food) proving that it is a real money. Without those who were using huge amount of bitcoin for now seemingly insignificant stuff, 99% of  us would never hear about bitcoin and would not be here today.
2485  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin prepaid visa card, no kyc on: January 04, 2023, 05:37:47 PM
Is it possible that they simply bought the domain from somebody else? From the Crunchbase link, it is stated that they were founded in 2021, so the year does not check out (CMIIW, I'm not familiar with how DNS registration work). Their Twitter was also registered in 2021, so that's that.
I just checked Wayback Machine and the first snapshot of the page goes all the way back to Augsut 2018 when there was some kind of bitcoin equipment store on that domain, meaning they obviously bought it later on (the first working snapshot with them goes back to April 2022).

Not that all of this is very important anyway as they didn't claim to be operating more than they can prove, which would be a red flag.
2486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 14 years ago today, the first Bitcoin was mined. on: January 04, 2023, 01:31:57 PM
Happy birthday Bitcoin, I didn't buy you on time and I'm very sorry about it
Don't waste your time feeling sorry and thinking "what if" and instead focus on acquiring bitcoin. You probably won't get filthy rich, but for sure its not too late to buy now, especially since current price is far from all time high.

I did similar mistake back in early 2014, thinking (wrongly of course) that I was too late and instead buying 0.1 bitcoin I spent few hundreds of dollars on shitcoins instead. Fortunately, later on i realized my mistake but I never look back thinking about it (unless I see posts like yours) and instead I feel fortunate that I am buying bitcoin on the regular basis in the last 6 years which proved to be a very good move.
2487  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: SCAM upozorenja Zbirni topic on: January 04, 2023, 01:04:09 PM

2488  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: January 04, 2023, 10:07:14 AM
The early witnesses are in a different situation... they are like the whistle blowers and or the ones that helped to build the case against Sam and against FTX.. sure, they might have ended up getting prosecuted.. but it seems that they turned themselves in.. and chose to cooperate quite early on.
That's why I thought that SBF might plead guilty, seeing that chances of him being acquitted after those two pleading guilty are slim to none. You are right though, it may be a part of the tactic as I read that by pleading not guilty his case enters discovery process so his lawyers can take a look at all the evidence they have against him and then later try to get a deal.

Considering all the bullshit that he was publicly saying about not doing anything wrong + two (at least) witnesses against him, going for a trial would be a stupid move imho. Anyway, still plenty of time left until October 2nd when trial should start.
2489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin birthday reminder: You could have been a millionaire using this tool on: January 04, 2023, 09:54:21 AM
In 2010, Gavin created a Bitcoin faucet that gave users bitcoin for solving captcha. You had to solve old style captcha which would have taken like -10 seconds and 5 bitcoins were yours in return. If you did this once a day, you could have been a millionaire today.
I see absolutely no point thinking about what you could have/should have done more than a decade ago as it won't do you any good. The same goes for all those articles during bull run with titles such "if you spent $100 on bitcoin 12 years ago now you would have xyz millions". The only thing that it achieves is newbies investing in altcoins instead of bitcoin, thinking that they are too late while they should focus on getting bitcoin now.

2490  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: January 03, 2023, 07:28:41 PM
After his closest buddies Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang pleaded guilty, SBF decided to go another route and pleaded not guilty on all charges. Bold move I must admit, after those two pleading guilty.

In a development that many expected, former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried officially pleads not guilty in the FTX fraud case. The Tuesday hearing has seen the disgraced founders’ official plea to criminal charges by United States prosecutors of fraud and conspiracy,

Bankman-Fried is accused of utilizing customer assets from his now-bankrupt crypto exchange platform to fund bets through hedge fund Alameda Research. Moreover, his not-guilty plea differs from the action taken by Alameda CEO Caroline Ellison, and fellow FTX founder Gary Wang.
2491  Other / Archival / Re: [POLL]What do you expect from Bitcoin in 2023? on: January 03, 2023, 06:00:36 PM
Voted for "There will be a continuation of the bearish trend and a new bottom" as I don't think we are at the bottom yet but not far from it as well. Everyone expects that bitcoin do its things like in previous cycles, but this is the first time in its existence that it may go through recession so recovery and new all time high might take a longer time than before. Then again, I've been consistently wrong in my pessimistic predictions so hopefully it will be the same this time.

Either way, I have no intentions waiting for possible bottom and instead I've been adding more bitcoin on every salary.
2492  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5000 good posts reported - we can all do it too! on: January 03, 2023, 08:04:53 AM
I just did 13 with 91% accuracy; I hope I improve this year and get some good accuracy. Thanks for the advice as well.
Its perfectly normal to have somewhat lower accuracy when you first start reporting, especially before you get the access to report history (you get that after 300 good reports) as it gets easier to figure out bad reports if you report in bulk.
If you want to reach those 300 good reports asap, probably the best place for that is altcoin board due sheer amount of shitposts there.

2494  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: January 03, 2023, 07:00:05 AM
Rather than a handful of members making thousands of dollars a month on advertisements, I think it would be cool if everyone had the opportunity to make a couple dollars a week.
Everyone (and by everyone I mean all members who are capable of writing a coherent sentence) already have the opportunity to make more than a couple of bucks per week as there's more spots in signature campaigns than there are solid members so even shitposters are capable of making $200-$300 per month.

But I just understood that if a scammer is banned they can easily return with a new innocent account and continue scamming which may be more dangerous.
You don't think that's not exactly what scammers are doing anyway, after they get negative tag? Of course they make a new account to continue scamming so banning them wouldn't make then any more dangerous than they are now.

As for me, I would like to see forum being more open to creating few more local boards (Pakistan for sure and eventually Bangladesh) as I don't really see a downsides of that.
2495  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Spiroll.app scam? on: January 02, 2023, 10:34:26 PM
I left them neutral feedback weeks earlier, warning it's a scam waiting to happen. It's good to see not many people joined their "contest".
This is actually quite good, now their negative feedback will be a much stronger warning to stop a bigger scam.
They haven't been online since this scam accusation was posted in their contest thread, so it looks like they've left Bitcointalk (at least on this account). If someone creates a Newbie warning Flag, that would be the final nail in their coffin.
Yep, it was pretty obvious how this story will end up, even though we gave them benefit of doubt at first with that jackpot bs but it didn't take them long to actually start scamming people.

Also worth noting: they never paid the fake winner's address (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/bc1q8zr62hardk5kkjym5femqtqsqfpwnakstzpg9z).
If there was any doubt who was behind the winner account now there isn't.  Cheesy

If someone creates a Newbie warning Flag, that would be the final nail in their coffin
I kinda expected OP to create one but since he didn't here it is, flag type 1 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;flag=3077

2496  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kevin O'leary vs CZ on: January 02, 2023, 10:20:32 PM
FTX and SBF hired Kevin O'Leary by paying him $1.5 million to be their brand ambassador and that is what he is doing day in and day out defending SBF and his actions and putting the blame entirely on CZ for the failure.
I just wanted to point out the small mistake as SBF paid O'Leary $15 million for his services and not $1.5 million. That's the amount he claims the he lost in SBF, even though based on one of his interviews (can't find it now) he actually didn't lose everything.

2497  Economy / Reputation / Re: 'Bitcointalk forum is going downhill because of dkbit98 on: January 02, 2023, 04:52:19 PM
I know that other users do that, I follow BitcoinTalk for a long time myself. So we would know that it would be very stupid to do so. We are not here to gain any forced trust, but just to announce our service to the users here. BitcoinTalk is absolutely no source of revenue for us, rather a place where ideas and option can be shared. But not this way.
If you follow this forum for a long time, then you should have be prepared for some tough questions without losing your composure, like you did.

We only replied once ( SEE TIME) and that reply got deleted. ONLY AFTER THAT we replied once more in the topic and that reply got also deleted. See the time on the messaged in the second post of mine.
As seen in the screenshot below, you made three posts in a row, from which last two were deleted while the first one is still there so I have no idea what are you talking about. And yes, all posts written in that topic are archived, you can see them here https://ninjastic.space/topic/5432564.0

2498  Economy / Reputation / Re: 'Bitcointalk forum is going downhill because of dkbit98 on: January 02, 2023, 04:35:33 PM
One of the deleted posts:
...
As I said, your post was deleted because it was consecutive one (and that is against forum rules as well, see rule nr 33), not because what you wrote. You could have simply edit your last post and include your reply to him instead creating new topic claiming that you are censored. My advice to you is to lock this one and continue discussion dkbit98's topic, this time following rules.

Regarding his accusation, it wouldn't be a first time that someone creates an army of sock puppet accounts to shill their business. I am not saying that's the case here, but we've seen it many times before. And yes, people were that stupid.
2499  Economy / Reputation / Re: 'Bitcointalk forum is going downhill because of dkbit98 on: January 02, 2023, 04:23:53 PM
No one is scared here, your post was deleted because you broke one of the OP's rules, more specifically the one about consecutive posting. Next time just edit your last post if you forgot to reply.

Note that all spam, off-topic, consecutive posting, and all other posts breaking forum rules will be deleted by moderator.
2500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THE RIGHT TIME TO MOVE IN on: January 02, 2023, 12:07:30 PM
As we anticipate another Bitcoin halving, when is the right to buy in and stock up Bitcoin in order not to be left behind in the next bull market?
If you are into it for a long run, the best time to buy bitcoin is always now. Less experienced will try to time the market and buy the bottom (which is impossible anyway unless you are very lucky) which usually results in paying more (speaking from personal experience btw) while in reality its best to start buying now, and eventually use DCA so you are not so affected with price volatility and more importantly you get the habit of buying bitcoin.
