1601  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tutorial] How to Check Bitcoin Price using Google Speadsheet. on: May 01, 2023, 06:28:04 AM
If you guys are working on a spreadsheet and didn't have time to check the Bitcoin price on the exchange or other flatform, you can use it in the sheet while you work.
Due my work I use Google spreadsheets on the daily basis (and several hours per day) and this way of checking for BTC price seems slower and more complicated than using CMC/Coingecko or simply googling "btc price".
1602  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone's using my video as bounty entry without my permission or consent on: April 30, 2023, 08:17:41 AM
In my own opinion, it is not up to you to tag him with a negative trust, what I think you should do is what you have done, and that is reporting him the bounty manager, is it up to the bounty manager to tag him with a negative trust, and if necessary, ban him from participating in future bounties..
How come it is not up to him to tag that scammer for stealing his own work?

To me, that is a textbook example of a good reason for a negative feedfback and I just left one to Apt2022 as well since I think that person in question can't be trusted at all. The only problem is that its a Newbie account in question so he will easily ditch this one and continue business as usual with another one.
1603  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin Twitter account hacked, $22k lost on: April 29, 2023, 08:15:13 PM
It is surprising that Kucoin is reimbursing users that lost money because of the hack in Twitter
I don't think that its surprising at all since their account got hacked due their own mistake and no one else's. Imho, its the least that they could so.

My apologies but how did the kucoin twitter account hack allow access to the exchange fund? Does this make a difference to everyone who has a Twitter account and cryptocurrency?
Its not the exchange that got hacked, but Kucoin Twitter account that attacker then used to share phishing link.
1604  Other / Meta / Re: Local Ukrainian Board on: April 29, 2023, 04:08:44 PM
Let's put political issues aside and see it neutrally. If Nigeria has their local board even they mostly use English, can speak and write well in English, why Ukraine does not have their local board? It's unfair.
I don't think that you are looking at things neutrally or objectively if you think that its unfair for Ukrainians not to have their own local board while Nigerians do because getting a local board is much more than about which language has been used.

What you forgot to mention is that Nigerians got their local board by being consistently active for several years. They earned it by their effort and no one handed it out to them with the hope that they might be active in the future. If they were as (in)active as Ukrainians are, they certainly woulnd't get their own local board.

Just to add that I have nothng against Ukraine local board (on the contrary, I am a big supporter of local boards) but if they are not initially interested in being active in their own local board, what's the point in creating one?

1605  Other / Meta / Re: Local Ukrainian Thread on: April 29, 2023, 03:15:50 PM
No offence, but considering the ongoing war russia started against Ukraine, I believe it is a little bit cruel to suppose that Ukrainian speaking users would want to write in russian board, communicate with local members and be cool with that.
While I sympathise with their struggle and I can imagine what they are going through as my country went through similar thing ~30 years ago, no one is forcing anyone to be active in Russian local board.

So, if they want their own local board, the least they can do is to actually be active in their local thread and if we learned anything when it comes to creating local boards is that theymos won't create new unless there is a real need for one. ~60 posts written in the last year or so shows that they are not really interested so why should forum staff bother?
1606  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Crisis - Improved, Worsen or still the same in your country (No Change)? on: April 29, 2023, 02:46:22 PM

Yeaaah, in the end, that is what happened in Europe. Widespread price rises, exorbitant in some cases, and there have been no shortages except in some very specific cases of some items.
Only in Europe? People from other parts of the world will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think that situation is much better (if anything) elsewhere. If anything, it might be easier for people in Europe as they already have life standard higher than big part of the world so they can handle the price increase better.

1607  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Projects Visibility (Sig Campaigns) in Bitcointalk. on: April 29, 2023, 07:26:12 AM
Why not ? If the project is interesting, it'll most likely succeed. I didn't see a (legit) project yet which ran its camp.
Hah, I wish that was true. Unfortunately, the real situation coulnd't be further away from that as vast majority of business (and when I say vast I mean ~90%) simply fail due myriad or reasons and just being "interesting" is not even remotely enough to succeed in any business. At least not in the long run.

I didn't see a (legit) project yet which ran its camp. for a long time and not succeeded.
That's because you only see those that succeeded while you don't even have the chanvce to see all those who failed.
1608  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Crisis - Improved, Worsen or still the same in your country (No Change)? on: April 29, 2023, 06:58:36 AM
Here in Croatia (Europe) we didn't have food crisis at all (if by food crisis you mean food shortage), even though some fear mongers thought (or maybe even secretly hoped) that we will die of hunger and freeze to death due ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Price of food increased by substantial amoutn though but I think that's how its been all over the worl so its not specific for my country on region.

In times like these, poorer countries/regions are always those that are affected the most but unfortunately I don't see prices of food going down ever again to the old ones so no other solutions other than tightening your belt or making more money.
1609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best non Kyc exchange on: April 29, 2023, 06:50:10 AM
I don't understand why nobody mentions Bitfinex, neither Yobit?
No one mentioned Bitfinex because @Amphenomenon asked about non KYC exchanges and you can't use Bitfinex without KYC.  Regarding Yobit, its one of the worst possible exchanges around that shouldn't be used at all, no matter whether they ask for KYC or not.
1610  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin Twitter account hacked, $22k lost on: April 29, 2023, 06:45:31 AM
Do any of you have any snapshots of the nature of the scam that happened? Are they links to access your account, double money scam, free gift trick or what?
It was a pretty basic scam attempt in which attacker shared fake Kucoin website and promised free money. People fall for these type of scams even without announcement coming from the exchange's official Twitter account so I am actually surprised that more people didn't lose money.

1611  Economy / Reputation / Re: I doubt it - But is it too bad to ask you to review some of my posts? on: April 28, 2023, 02:05:26 PM
In the end, the OP got what he was looking for, although such a distribution of merits is completely wrong in my opinion, especially for the reason that it is seen by many beginners who climb the ladder with great difficulty, and someone gets 50+ merits for a literal "begging post".
Upon reading his post again, I have to say that I think you are right and this is indeed more about merit begging than anything else. I mean, why would member with 1000+ merits even report his posts to a merit source as he said that he is still doing that? These things should be imho reserved to those who lack merit to reach the higher rank and not just for the sake of getting more merit for whatever reason.

With that being said, I did check his merit history and it looks like ~30% of his merit received came form the same member so no wonder when that source of merit stopped, he was left with very few merits received in the last few months.

Apparently, everyone on the forum thought the CM member was Albert Einstein until it was one and members starting seeing you with the same Avatar and signature same as people who are spamming the gambling board. haha
Given the reputation that CM built over the years, I am not surprised that people perceived members with their sig differently to the point that their posts had more "weight" and to be considered as a sort of forum elite. It will take a long time to see another campaign reach that level.

1612  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where do I keep crypto after buying it? on: April 28, 2023, 01:44:06 PM
If I want to buy crypto, then I believe I have to go to a broker or an exchange (assuming I don't know someone who wants to sell me some). So I've got to pay them. Are they regulated enough that I can be confident that they won't just run off with my money once I've paid them?
Even though some exchanges are more regulated than the others, you can't be 100% sure that they won't scam you or that you won;t have issues when you try to withdraw crypto into your own wallet. Having said that, there are a couple of centralized exchanges that are reputable enough that I wouldn't be too afraid to risk my money.

Then, once I have bought from the broker or exchange, do they transfer the crypto to a wallet that I control? Or do they keep the crypto in their own wallet as a custodian? If so, again, how can I trust them?
Nope, they don't transfer it to your own wallet and that's something that you have to do it by yourself. My suggestion is to do it as soon as you bought the crypto because as long its on the exchange or platform where you bought it from you won't have a real control over it.

1613  Economy / Reputation / Re: Changed language in history. Bought? Hacked? on: April 28, 2023, 10:02:46 AM
I'm not sure about that one. Based on the phrasing, it's possible that both "idea" and "ideal" could fit semantically in the sentence mentioned. "Idea" typically refers to a concept or thought, while "ideal" refers to something perfect or optimal. So, when he said "the ideal of stable coins emerged after Bitcoin was created to solve issues related to volatility," even though "idea" seems like a better fit, "ideal" could also work in this context.
Let's say for the sake of argument that both idea and ideal could fit there (even though I think that Igebotz meant idea as it fits much better there) there is another example where I think he switched those two words.

I am wondering what would be the best thing to do in Nigeria. Reading all your answers, I think the best thing to do would be to rent some industrial location, and to share the electricity with someone which already own a huge electrical contr
That would be a good ideal and a more secured and cheaper options out there

There is another member from Nigerian board that mixed those two words as well so by now we have at least 8 members from Nigerian board that are doing that and I don't think that all those are controlled by the same person.

I've learned so many things from this community, I joined as a novice to cryptocurrency, had no ideal what Bitcoin was before I joined the forum

1614  Economy / Reputation / Re: I doubt it - But is it too bad to ask you to review some of my posts? on: April 28, 2023, 08:52:15 AM

If I were you, I would move this thread somewhere far away and lock it, because I think it does you more harm than good. However, don't take my advice seriously, because I'm not one of those people whose opinion carries some weight on the forum.
While I do agree that this doesn't really belong to Meta, I woulnd't be so harsh. Call me naive, but I think this is more about his post quality rather than anything else as he is worried that it went down since he doesn't get as much merit as he used to. Iirrc one of the older reputable members had a thread where people could ask for his opinion regarding their post quality so I think OP's goal is exactly that.

ou have been misinformed. I have just over 200 merits. I have never had more than 400 in the bank at any time BTW. Dmdr may need to check their page and make sure it's putting out the correct information as it currently is not.
It always boggled my mind how can non-merit sources have so much merit to share because 99% of the time I am at 0 and usually spend all of it the very same day I have some.

@_BlackStar as others told you, its quite normal to receive less merit once you reach Legendary rank as many of us experienced (myself included) the same thing so I woulnd't worry too much about it.
1615  Economy / Economics / Re: Social Ranking System in China on: April 28, 2023, 06:52:41 AM
Do you think this is a good system for managing people so that good people get more benefits at the expense of bad people.
I don't see how anyone could think that this is a good system. I mean tyranical government getting even more power, what could go wrong. Tongue

I think it's a horrible system all around, and I might be inclined to think "Who cares? This is China we're talking about, not the US" but China seems to be exerting its influence all around the world these days and shit like this might well spread to Europe, the states, and who knows where else.
United States has bunch of issues, but even with all that they are light years ahead of China and without them/you still being the only global superpower, world would be a much worse place to live. Here in Europe we don't even have to imagine it as people that lived behind iron curtain very well know how it was when USSR ran the show and how it would be for the rest of us.
1616  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which crypto wallet is better to take for a beginner? on: April 27, 2023, 08:56:02 PM
If you're interested in decentralized exchange wallet
decentralized exchange
https://bisq.network/
https://localcryptos.com/
https://hodlhodl.com/
I really don't get this part of your post as OP is asking what kind of wallet is the most suitable for a beginner yet you shared him exchanges. Care to explain how this answer his question in any way?

@OP For a beginner I think that something not too expensive and proven would be a good choice, meaning something Trezor Model One or Ledger Nano S Plus. I personally tried both and prefer the latter but I don't think that you can go wrong with either of those two.
1617  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM WARNING] TheTopSpotOnline Plagiarized Whitepaper on: April 27, 2023, 02:23:47 PM
Most developers aren't ICO whitepaper writers. Most developers are just that developers so it would make sense to hire someone that writes whitepapers to write it. Because the developer is pending time writing code. But I understand check me out. I am real.
That's a standrad excuse that we heard every time someone cought altcoin project plagiarizing whitepaper or having stock image photos. Its always someone elses fault and not your own. But even if you indeed hired someone to write the whitepaper, its your responsibility to see if everything is legit.

By the way, I see on your website that you signed yourself under few articles. So how come are you capable of writing articles yet you had to hire someone to write whitepaper for you? Or you also didn't write those articles and someone else did it for you?

1618  Other / Meta / Re: Opinion/Recommendation: Autosave of drafts on the forum on: April 27, 2023, 02:13:23 PM
Have you tried https://investsocial.com/? To make it easy for you, I just deliberately did one on the site:
Cheers bud, I guess you learn something new every day;). Forums I've been active on are usually very old so maybe that's why I haven't seen something like that before.

It's worth noting that Epochtalk already comes with an autosave feature for drafts and it works flawlessly... You can try it on "Coinbistro [it doesn't have a dedicated draft page so when you try to post something, you'll be greeted with a pop-up notification that asks if you want to load the draft]".
You mean it constantly and automatically saves text as we are writing it? Sounds good, but waiting for Epochtalk is like waiting for Godot.  Tongue

After getting screwed big time several times by draft option not working properly, every time I am writing something bigger (e.g brief monthly overview of local boards activity) I save the post localy as I am writing it.

1619  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitvavo: is it safe? on: April 26, 2023, 10:54:06 AM
This is very useful. Thanks a lot.
And I believe that Bisq is better for people who are handy with it.
Bisq is not a rocket science, especially not for a medicine student like you so you should be all right if you decide to give it a try. The only thing that you have to be aware of is that you will need some bitcoin as a deposit in order to do any trade on Bisq and you will have to be patient as it may take days for buy orders to go through.

But it keeps bothering me that I would transfer 25k savings to an entity I don't have experience with, or know people personally to have experience with.
In the event of any future issues, I'd be left alone.
Who says that you have to transfer 25k in one go? You can start slow with few hundreds of dollars just to check how it works and once you feel more comfortable you can increase the amount. On top of that, if you try to buy $25k worth of Bitcoin in one go, you will seriously overpay it.

If the hedge fund managers I respect and follow are correct, we are right in front of a BTC Tsunami and I would really hit myself in the head if it goes up drastically from here before I can invest (I have 3 very busy weeks now). The current price point is already a questionable one for me to buy 1 full BTC. It is probably wiser to go for half a BTC now, and DCA from there.
Don't mind fund managers and infuencers, none of them really knows what will happen next. And yes, if you are unsure about buying 1 whole bitcoin, DCA is a very good alternative.

1620  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does anyone know BXONE ? Need help : on: April 26, 2023, 09:09:52 AM
I first have to say that I never even heard about this BXONE and from what I can see, they are not on either Coingecko or Coinmarketcap. Being there is not a sign of legitimacy of course, but exchange not being there at all is a major red flag. At least for me.

By the way, how did you even hear about this exchange, what made you use it when there are so many solid choices if you don't mind going through KYC? And if they suddenly ask you for more money in order to get your deposit out, you can be 100% sure that its a scam.
