1661  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: April 16, 2023, 11:21:10 AM
Great minds think alike.
I made this exact request to our mutual friends, and he delivered:
Damn. I looked exactly there and somehow I completely missed that last column that shows number of merited posts, thanks a lot! The only problem is the timeframe as he counts it from the moment post got merit and not the moment it was written.

By the way, I don't know if you noticed but you are wearing old signature.
1662  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: April 16, 2023, 07:35:44 AM
However, one thing remains constant and never changes and that is the name of our local champion, right?  Grin
I sure hope that doesn't change as he is a crucial part of our board.  Cheesy

Makes sense. Our Polish board has one of the lowest ratio, I suspect we only have one merit source who is not very active lately.
From what i can see, it looks like your only meeit source is malevolent but as you said he is not very active lately.

The discussion there is pretty clean and spam-free, but, as there are only a few active members there, I think people are hesitant to keep sending merits to the same members too often, as it could be seen as abuse.
I don't think that anyone would see it as abuse as long merit is sent to any decent/helpful post as people got way more relaxed when is comes to how merit is shared.

Still, seeing boards with a ratio of over 1 seems a bit odd, as I can't imagine that (on average) every single post would be worth meriting.
Its more about good posts getting more merits. The main difference I noticed on our local board when we got few more merit sources is while before you would get maybe 2-3 merits for a good post, nowadays you will get like 10 and that's why merit ratio went up a lot.

Out of curiosity (after seeing pawel7777 post) I decided to check how many merits is sent per transaction and result is yet another chart. What can i say, I really enjoy making those.  Grin

While I wasn't surprised at all (as a matter of fact I expected it) to see Arabic board at the top of this chart, I was surprised to see some of the local boards that generally have lower merit/post ratio (Russian, Polish, even Turkish)) to have one of the highest merit sent per transaction.

@DdmrDdmr I know its a long shot, but is there any way to see percentage of merited posts in each local board?
1663  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Russia is surviving NATO-backed sanctions on: April 16, 2023, 06:41:59 AM
First of all, no one seriously expected that country size of Russia collapse after one year of sanctions, like no one expected (expect few haters) that Europeans will freeze to death last winter. I mean, just take a look at North Korea, Cuba and other similar countries, they are under sanctions for decades and yet still somehow their political system survives. Sure they are not in war like Russia is which is way more demanding, but still.

To put it simply, Russia survived and can survive many years of such sanctions because majorify of their people are used to be treated bad and to have generally low quality of life so for them its just business as usual. These sanctions can even help their regime to sell the bullshit how that is another proof that everyone is against them and they have to stick together etc.
1664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter plans to offer buying and selling of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on: April 15, 2023, 03:12:26 PM
They are all rumors: https://twitter.com/bitcoinlfgo/status/1645804390413135875?s=20

They are confirmed to be fake rumors.
Its not a fake news, its just that title of this topic is somewhat misleading and you obviously didn't bother to check the links in the first post. Twitter users will indeed be able to trade crypto and stocks but via eToro partnership. I even opened up a topic about it few days ago.
1665  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Uputstvo za korištenje Chipmixer-a on: April 15, 2023, 03:01:31 PM

1666  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: April 15, 2023, 10:01:58 AM
I was always puzzled by how disproportionate this chart is. What would be the reason for the top boards to have this ratio over 1000% higher than the bottom ones?
Do they have more active merit sources, or is it more about cultural differences and stronger in-group preferences than the others? Or maybe both.
Imho, by far the most important factor is how many active merit sources local board has and after that is probably how clean of spam board is and quality of the members writing there.

My local board (Croatian) used to have one of the lowest merit/post ratios despite the fact that we didn't have spam at all and posts were generally of a good quality (for example our local board had 4 members in CM campaign, afaik more than any other local board). Only after theymos gave us 2 new merit sources our ratio started going up and now its among the highest of all local boards.

ps. Rikafip - massive thanks for your monthly updates!
Cheers bud, glad to see that people find these overviews interesting/useful.
1667  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: April 14, 2023, 03:31:39 PM
It looks like dead race between Turkish and German local board for second place in active members and merits shared, but Turkish board have more written posts.
Yep. I thought that Nigerian board will join the race soon but it looks like they slowed down a bit.

I wish we had better statistics in our local board but it is what it is, several legendary members left us in last few years but we gained some new members along the way, so it's not that bad.
Its pretty much the same situation in other local boards and forum in general so at least we don't stick out in that regard.
1668  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I think it's time to leave Binance, any alternatives? on: April 14, 2023, 03:19:00 PM
looks like you're wrong, what I know is that binance is located in many countries (not just the USA) and reportedly their head office is in Malta.
He referred to Coinbase when he wrote "San Francisco-based company", not Binance. Regarding Binance, their headquarters is in Cayman Island (same was for FTX).

But why would you choose Coinbase as your 2nd alternative if Binance falls? There are far better exchanges than coinbase or the DEX should be your best one because Binance falling only means centralized platforms will all fall?
Care to share some of those far better (reputable) exchanges than Coinbase? Keep in mind that we are talking about centralized exchanges here, not DEX.

I don't see binance collapsing, there is no way they could get to CZ or binance as it's been playing well to the laws of every country where it operates.
Of course there is a way, have you not learned anything from what has happened so far? But go on, keep beliveing CZ that your money is SAFU.  Cheesy
1669  Economy / Exchanges / Bitrue exchange hacked for $23 million on: April 14, 2023, 11:32:32 AM
Another day another exchange hacked and this time its Bitrue, Singapore based exchange during which attackers took $23 million in ETH, QNT, GALA, SHIB, HOT and MATIC. Its just another proof that people shouldnt use exchanges as banks but of course this incident wont make anyone move their funds out of the exchange.

1670  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: April 14, 2023, 09:58:37 AM
Nakon sto sam neki dan objavio mjesecni pregled stanja lokalnih boardova u onoj mojoj temi u Meta dijelu foruma, evo i pregleda fokusiranog na nas board. Kao i svaki put do sada, pregled je napravljen uz pomoc @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space.

Broj postova tijekom Ozujka 2023

Lista aktivnih clanova tijekom Ozujka 2023

Grin

1671  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I think it's time to leave Binance, any alternatives? on: April 14, 2023, 06:57:11 AM
Binance is not even comparable to Mt. Gox when the latter collapsed. When Mt. Gox collapsed, it was the epitome of a too-big-to-fail crypto institution.
That's exactly how an average person percieves Binance, being too big to fail and I even heard that from some people that lost money on both Celsius and FTX and are still holding significant amount of money on Binance.

Of course Bitcoin would survive and of course crypto market would recover, but Binance going down would affect market greatly, at least in the short-medium term because they are that big. Worst of all, even if Binance goes down I don't think that people would change the way they use centralized exchanges, like they didn't after Mt Gox. For that reason I woulnd't like to see Binance going down the same way FTX did because I don't think that anyone would learn any lesson from it and in a few years everything would be forgotten.

1672  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Twitter will enable crypto and stock trading via eToro partnership on: April 13, 2023, 10:49:42 AM
Twitter seemingly to be gearing towards being some sort of super app.
Yep, and that's not a secret either as Elon said it himself that his goal is to make an "everything app", something like WeChat is for Chinese people since they can use it to pay for stuff, chat with people, play games etc. Its easier said than done though so it remains to be seen how this ends.

I believe Twitter will have to submit new area for their company license to legally deploy it on Twitter. Regulations on financial services are very strict in the USA. and if Twitter ignore compliance stuffs, they will be in troubles with regulatory authorities.
Since that feature is going live tomorrow, I guess they already sorted that part. Its probably eToro doing the trading part because if it isn't, what's the point of that partnership?
1673  Economy / Trading Discussion / Twitter will enable crypto and stock trading via eToro partnership on: April 13, 2023, 10:03:24 AM
As the title says, Twitter partnered with eToro and starting tomorrow (April 14th) users will be able to trade crypto and stocks directly on the platform.

Twitter users will soon be able to trade stocks, crypto, and other assets directly via the social media platform, thanks to a partnership with eToro. According to a CNBC report, the new feature will roll out on the Twitter application on Thursday, April 14.

It is interesting to note that Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, began his quest to acquire the social media platform on April 14, 2022. A year later he is rolling out one of the biggest updates in the platform’s history. Twitter currently has a “cashtag” feature that allows users to view real-time trading data from various platforms. However, with the Twitter-eToro partnership, the “cashtag” feature will expand to include more instruments and asset classes, including trading crypto. The social media platform will also have a “View on eToro” button, which will take users to the eToro site.

eToro CEO, Yoni Assia told CNBC that they see a lot of their users interacting on Twitter and educating themselves about the market. Assia further added that Twitter has high-quality, real-time content about financial happenings around the world. Assia stated,

“This partnership will enable us to reach those new audiences [and] connect better the brands of Twitter and eToro.”

Who the fuck cares what Warren Buffet has to say about Bitcoin anyway? And its not like he is saying this for the first time so that we should be surprised.

1677  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I think it's time to leave Binance, any alternatives? on: April 12, 2023, 06:04:47 PM
There are a bunch of trustworthy DEXs listed at https://kycnot.me, the most prominent being (obviously) Bisq, but I have to saw, I dismantled my Bisq node after my Bitcoin to USDT trade did not go through after a few hours. An exchange should not only be safe, but also reasonably fast.
Yeah that's the problem with Bisq - people keep recommending it but not so many using it so in the end you have to wait several days for someone to fill your order. Not the best option when you have to buy/sell ASAP or if you want to trade larger amounts.

I do not think that we have any alternative to binance at this moment because there is no centralised exchange that can match the volume of binance at the moment.
Just because Binance has the largest volume doesn't mean that there are no alternatives that can be used. For vast majority of traders volume on Bybit, Kucoin or exchange of similar size is more than enough really.

Yeah one can think of Coinbase or Kraken exchange, to be the best alternatives but we are looking for the Chinese exchanges that may lead in the market after Binance
Why it has to be Chinese exchange? I don't see OP mentioning that as a requirement.

1678  Other / Meta / Re: Messages for deleted posts - from 4 years ago? on: April 12, 2023, 01:27:48 PM
I wonder what percentage of the statistics of the reports are reports on old (more than six months) posts? How will the number of reports decrease because of this restriction?
Probably a big chunk of reports went on those old posts otherwise there woulnd't be such a change so I expect quite a big drop in reports numbers. Now that admins gonna have a little bit more time on their hands, I hope they become more strict in certain boards but I doubt that's gonna happen.
1679  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: April 12, 2023, 01:21:46 PM
Ahm. Don't you think shahzadafzal is a Pakistani Merit Source? Of course, he can choose not to reveal. But I believe he is a merit source.
Yeah you are right, he is obviously a merit source. I always wondered how Pakistan community have such a good merit/post ratio without having a merit source and I never really bothered to check situation there more thoroughly.

This version isn't mobile friendly. I'm on chrome. Here's an screenshot-
Basically all the wider/longer signatures have the same issues when it comes to mobile versions and I don't think that much can be done unless it get shortened (for example removing that "No Limits" or something along those lines).
