I have sent Cyper a PM that I have looked in to the profitability for my regions power costs & it is just prohibitive to mine here atm, I don't mind running it for a small loss but this would be much more than I could justify so very regrettably I have had to cancel my planned purchase, I have expressed my sincere apologies to Cyper for not having researched this properly before saying I would like to go ahead & he has every right to be annoyed at me for the extra work I've given him - I've offered him a small gift as a show of good will & hope that as he was in no rush that he can find someone better informed than I was to complete the sale  Embarrassed

Edit: seems like the calculator that I used had incorrect power costs for my region, now re-checking the feasibility against an actual electricity bill - Cyper is being fantastic re this & I really hope that I can still go ahead with it once I've re-worked the calcs for everything

Can't you just look at your bills from the power company or contact them instead of expecting some website to know what is your cost of electricity.
Also, make sure you get the total cost of electricity, charges for delivering it and all taxes. Where I live electricity itself isn't expensive - but it gets once I add in all the extra costs.

Yep, that's what I'm now doing & should have done in the first place, there's a really weird tax on the consumption which is the cost of the amount used plus a fixed charge of about $10 (for my kW band of supply) summed then multiplied by 1.05113 & also then by 4.864% & I have no idea why it's so complicated but am guessing that the formula for calculating it stays constant (it may be some kind of ecological/sustainable energy subsidies -  so called tax, no idea?) & also that if I use a lot more electricity than at present they would still bill me at the same rate per kWh - am looking for an old power bill where I used about 3 times my normal to check

I'd probably need a while to mull it all over, I'm sure that they'd be plenty of others interested in this too
While you've been mulling it over... I should have something for you to try by tomorrow.
I will start a separate topic in the Trading forum, to not spoil Goomboo's Journal anymore.
Just want to test it a bit more overnight.

It's an extension for Chrome browser - trivial to install / not so complex to setup / very easy to use.
And relatively easy to review - just a few KB of JS code, with some ajax stuff.

I had already had my bot, quite more advanced, but since I was so bored today and I like coding Chrome extensions... I made it for you Smiley
Anyway, will let you know soon - stay tuned.

cool  Smiley  look forward to checking it out, muchas gracias

Goole's results of regional interest for the search term Bitcoin

http://www.google.com/insights/search/#q=bitcoin&date=today%2012-m&cmpt=q

Search volume index - see world map

China:            25
Viet Nam:       15
Japan:            6
Taiwan:          0
Thailand:        0
South Korea:   0

China shows the most interest of the Asian countries
I was surprised that S. Korea didn't register more interest being all high tech & stuff

No interest from any Arabic countries as yet - PetroBitcoins  Tongue

Argentina: 19 the highest from South America - they've just slapped on a bunch of monetary restrictions for their Peso

2908  Economy / Speculation / Re: Goomboo's Journal on: March 05, 2012, 12:42:04 PM
Goomboo is this roughly the chart that you're using & did you close out your short position (at a profit from about $5.80 to $4.80) & then go long at the start of this month?

2909  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Faith in a higher power. on: March 04, 2012, 09:39:45 PM
lets have a bash at this, atm > 1 bottle of wine & < 2 bottles

there is only the present eternal moment, it encompasses everything & when one's awareness isn't in it then one is in a dream like state, an illusion

there is only an infinite awareness, it encompasses everything, it is everything including everything that ever could be, we are it, but just for the lulz it chooses to play a game of lets forget & manifest this LF consciousness in to physical material temporal existence (in our case) & while we retain some profound realization of this (which explains all religions etc), we are actually programed (have programed ourselves) to not get it - otherwise there would be no game to play = less fun & actually there's also a purpose behind it, but I'll leave that for now

side note: by programed to not get it, it doesn't of course mean that we can't, in fact the whole game seems to mostly evolve/revolve around our getting it what could be called enlightenment or presence & as for programmed it's just like we choose to play some computer game & then assume that char within the rules we've set, the more aware one is the more one may see the program, most peeps live in the equivalent state of a sub-routine atm but that's OK, eternal time & the penny may/will drop one day - the funny thing is that's such a shocking experience when it does that it's hard to survive the level up, still infinite lives hax so np

Earth = elementary school, master the elements here & level up, to help you get them in balance guide books like a simple pack of playing cards can be very helpful, Tarot cards if you're close to graduating otherwise leave them alone, baby food - any religion of your choice but try not to end your days still supping baby formula - the mystic sections which each religion have are for sure though a potential stairway to heaven (awakening), like Sufi, Qabalah; maybe even ninja Jesuit (haven't checked those guys out so much as yet) & of course Buddhism isn't a religion at all though many like to treat it as such - it's seeing/being reality which one is (excuse spelling pse - ie how I spell Kabbalah)

Reality is created anew in every present moment, it isn't linear

anyway to get back to the OP, "Faith in a higher power" from a viewpoint say of the ego, of separation, then obviously there are going to be powers & more importantly awarenesses both higher & lower than one's own (less seemingly separated), just look at nature & evolution, we have just about climbed out of the primeval swamp but not that long ago & are all too happy to dive back in the moment the lights go out &  the game gets the better of us

"Faith in a higher power" is just reinforcement of the illusion of separation & a dis-empowerment, plus a negation of one's own total responsibility for one's reality - ie it's an ego trip & a sure way to level down

"Are you an atheist" I believe it asked in the poll - this would really need a definition of what might be construed as god here I expect, as an atheist I guess disagrees with that concept - to me both atheist & faith in a higher power are equally flawed & anyway it's time to be getting on with the 2nd bottle of wine, sry about having done no spell check etc...

2910  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: UP UP UP! on: March 04, 2012, 07:13:22 PM
assuming that you added the $13 odd to your margin, then about $54 profit which is nada shoddy, over 6% return on your capital in short time even with the extra wide Bitcoinica spreads - also just out of interest were your limit sell orders staggered or just a single one for 200 BTC?
2911  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: UP UP UP! on: March 04, 2012, 06:54:29 PM
just out of interest did you liquidate your position or do it with limit sell orders? No screenie available prior to cashing out I suppose?

as for regretting it, who knows short term but with that base & ZT price (which you could keep adjusting up all being well by removing margin) then I'd have just left it to snooze until 2013 & started some new Bitcoinica accounts positions
2912  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Daily Speculation Poll] :: UP UP UP! on: March 04, 2012, 02:08:53 PM
WTF with the min price in your pic here proudhon ??
Even if it doesn't factor in the recent addition of swaps, it totally off ...

If my math is correct, your margin call/liquidation price (taking into account swap) is 2.8/2.66
Can someone confirm ? Just want to be sure my math is good

ignoring the swaps, I make his ZT price $2.6366

the (pre swaps) formulae for calculating the ZT price is:

entry field 1: Long / Short
entry field 2: Current Bid (changes to Ask if you've entered Short)
entry field 3: Net Value
entry field 4: Maintenance
entry field 5: Amount
entry field 6: BTC Balance

The calc then does the formulae:

F1 = Long
F2 - (F3 - F4) / (F5 + F6) = ZT

F1 = Short
F2 + (F3 - F4) / (F5 - F6) = ZT

2914  Economy / Gambling / Re: *[~BITLOTTO~]* Next draw is March 7! on: March 04, 2012, 10:12:19 AM
Website has been fixed to not include the over payment (refund of 9.75 sent -the tx that sent the 10 BTC could still win as 0.25 was left in for that tx) and so far the jackpot for March 7 is just shy of 60 BTC!!!!

Many thanks, got it - I'll resend the bets now, sorry for the extra work  Embarrassed

The way I was thinking for doing larger bets is if someone sent you say 10 BTC to a special large bets address that gets generated on request for each customer, your bot would then resend all of this in 0.25 BTC chunks to the normal monthly lotto address to create the 40 hashes necessary for the lotto, if one of these won then the prize would go to first the customer's exclusive large bets address & then on to them from that to the address they sent the 10 BTC from, they could also send more than 1 large bet to their exclusive LBA & this address could even be constant & just adjusted internally for each new month's lotto. It looks cheat proof to me & not too hard to set up - though I'm no programmer

I'll post this in your thread for feedback

Cheers, Otoh

Edit: perhaps the tx from customer to their LBA would need to be made public at the time so that all could see the prize went back to the winner's own address via it, or just a list of each generated LBA & which customer address it received funds from

just watching, but as I post to do that then just to say for me it would work better in the OP if the

BAD BORROWERS

field was the last, at the bottom of all the other more positive ones, rather than interspersed amoungst them

anyway ~ wishing you good fishing & not to catch any/many of those BBs

Edit

or as say:

ESCROWS

DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS

OPEN LOANS

GOOD BORROWERS

BAD BORROWERS

Don't drink and trade, kids.

Oops.

you want to upload the latest version of the ZT price (Min.price/Liq.price) script to take in to account of the swaps introduction, actually I wish that the script made it ZT.price as the field there

PS long with a $4.78 base price may be stuff of legend if you let it run to towards the end of year
2917  Economy / Marketplace / Re: We just received a 20K BTC deposit. Thank You !!! on: March 03, 2012, 10:24:19 PM
imo the only way those coins are ever likely to be traced at all is if Linode & any others/authorities brought in to investigate can get a high enough burden of proof against someone specific who had access to that admin account that they have all the history/timing/events trail on & so be able to threaten them with harsh enough penalties that they confess & return the funds (unlikely), do a deal (funds returned anon) also unlikely, or that that person/s has made a slip up & their ID/involvement can be proved, my most lightly scenario for them getting nicked would be the same one as the French bank vault job - a bitter X-GF outing him, dumped because Limode scammer now has 1/4 $M to play away from home on or if more than 1 person was involved then a falling out over how the spoils are going to be divided - but seems unlikely as so far it has the looks of a calm & collected op from the dark side of the geekforce
2918  Economy / Marketplace / Re: We just received a 20K BTC deposit. Thank You !!! on: March 03, 2012, 10:08:18 PM
lol obviously he's not been sent any of the Linode recently stolen funds*, no one smart enough to pull that one off is going to be dumb enough to trust any, let alone large chunks, to a blubber mouth with rates that are daylight robbery in any case, how can anyone even consider it plausible, as Goat says he's just trolling off the back of the affair (& any of you who believe it could be so) for his own lulz/lame site spamming - it's just his little wet dream that it were so

*Edit: or being such a braggart he'd quickly post evidence of their blockchain movement to an account he can demonstrate he can send from a stated amount as proof that it's his
2919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suspect #1: Linode themselves on: March 03, 2012, 09:13:20 PM
I'm not going to jump to any conclusions on who did it yet but I'm up to discuss possible scenarios.

I'm not a security expert so maybe someone who is could speak up. A lone employee (or 2 working together etc) might not be "Linode dropping the ball". There is always a human element and it's always the hardest to protect against. If it turns out some employee went off and did this and Linode comes clean / takes responsibility / makes it right and it wasn't easily preventable then I'll maintain my respect for them. On the other hand if someone can point out how they "really screwed up" when the facts come out please do it.
-Jered

I'm not a security expert either but I've watched many an episode of Mission Impossible & seen the Ocean's 11, then for $2k Benjies sans armes, ni haine, ni violence & the prospect of much more (or less) if they hadn't already had an ongoing peak somehow & timed it for max balances which it doesn't sound like, the MI scenario starts to sound quite plausible - get a temp job on Linode's cleaning services Co team & install key-loggers or spy-cams, a telephone sanitizer dood with smarts, most likely though borrow an admin colleague's log in details or say that yours must have been pinched & for plausible deny-ability say that you found a USB stick on the ground in the company car park one morning & foolishly plugged it in to your admin company computer out of curiosity (it had gay porn on it so you dumped it) - I wonder if he/they got more or less than they'd hoped for, anyway here's hoping that they get a nice long term inside to write a memoir on their heist & it can all be good for the inevitable The Bitcoin Story film that already has plenty of juicy Ocean's 11 type plot material
2920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suspect #1: Linode themselves on: March 03, 2012, 07:51:46 PM
Did you know that if someone breaks into your house and gets wounded by your careless arrangement of knives or something they can sue you for that in some cases? We're not talking about sanity here, we're talking about law.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

none of my intruders have sued me as yet  Wink

but then none of my knives are ever carelessly arranged

though a lawyer did come round once to talk about that, he's top right
