interesting, just behind the UK but with a population a ninth of the size of only about 7M compared to over 63M for the UK

Somebody just bought all bitcoin for sale up to 3.7 gbp at intersango (was trading at ~3.3 gbp).
I expect that it was someone who got fed up with waiting for their GBP bank withdrawals to be fixed, I was in the same position since last week but fortunately someone took my bid to buy about 400 BTC @ 3.27 yesterday which I was very surprised & happy about, I immediately sent the coins out & now have a zero balance on Intersango & whilst it might be tempting to send them back & put an ask up @ 3.37 I think that I'll just wait until their bank is working again & any mass leak of maybe Patrick's emails comes to be released plus any other Bitcoinica fallout, as I understand it they are the owners & managers (with a VC backer) so they're the one's to sue & apply to freeze bank accounts, declare bankruptcy, if there's not a happy ending for ZT's victims on the near horizon we're between 2 eclipses atm & my astro senses say play it safe at least until after Monday next week

also 2 months of extra mining from not having to wait, I made that worth $140 here in Spain with $0.235/kWh, so about $600 + $150 = $750 + it's fun/educational so add $25 for that, I was all set to bid at 156 BTC or just over, lets have more of these pse

I'm guessing it would be hard to arbitrage this because the chinese currency cannot easily be moved to gox? If you are determined enough I guess you could fly over to HK or Russia (or any other jurisdiction where banks open accounts in CNY), open a CNY and USD accounts at a bank there and convert CNY<->USD as needed Not sure if any exchange restrictions apply but certainly CNY bank accounts are available in at least two jurisdictions mentioned above. Since the beginning of 2011 US citizens can open RMB accounts in person at the Bank of China, 2 in NY & 1 in LA, minimum of $500 - but you can't actually use it for anything except a savings account to then convert back in to US$ unfortunately “Can I write checks in Chinese currency?” I asked. “No, you cannot.” “Can I withdraw Chinese currency?” “No.” “Can I go to Beijing and withdraw currency from my account there?” “No.” “Can I have a debit card and use it in Shanghai?” “No.” “Can I deposit currency in my account at the airport in Hong Kong on my way back to the states?” “No.” “Can I write checks in dollars?” “No.” “Can I send Yuan to the btcchina.com exchange & buy bitcoins with it & vice versa?” “Oh sure, absolutely, WTF security - security we have an incident at counter number 2, taze this terrorist, take down - take down.” “So what can I do?” “You can deposit at minimum of $500 and it will be converted to RMB. If the value of the Chinese currency rises, your dollar account will increase in value. Then you can withdraw dollars. And it is insured by the FDIC.” “Why would I want to open an account that I can’t really use?” “Well, if the rate on your savings or money market account is barely zero percent and if the Chinese currency appreciates between 3% and 5% a year as it is expected to, then you can have a savings account at the Bank of China that yields you much more than any equivalent domestic American savings account with the same FDIC protection.”

all seemed to start from memorydealers recent presentation in China, this new 10 times previous normal volumes is probably the second wave of awareness & opportunity interest spreading out from that, exponentially hopefully

Please remove this.
This is not helping Bitcoin or the community and more importantly this is an insult to people like zhoutong and WBX.
Agreed. It seems like everyone is working really hard to get everyone their money back. Yes it is shitty they got hacked, but give them credit for working on getting 100% back. It's called satire, I would have thought with your avatar you would get that, it's in off topic - chill out & enjoy the show

If you're going for the gift exemption I think that it generally has to be under $25 - personally I've bought over 1,000 items from eBay US shipped to Europe & find that items sent individual to individual attract very little attention, but new items shipped direct from manufacturers may well be picked up for extortionate duty etc & anything sent by courier always gets taxed, probably varies country to country but I prefer to avoid the obvious gift tag & just have a token lowish amount shown

1. Build Bitcoin bucket shop in 4 days 2. Start a thread on HN just to ignore all the advice 3. Have huge spreads and make a buttload while zhoutonging people 4. Change the TOS without notice & charge swaps interest on everyone's positions once they're already locked in, making them untenable for many large players as you bleed off their margin deposits5. Find a bagholder "investor" because you know that Bitcoinica is going to blow up eventually 6. Get doubly rich, give up responsibility over Bitcoinica 7. "Forget" to announce the change of ownership for 6 months 8. Have a dirty PR campaign to blame Intersango for your incompetence 9. Everyone still likes you and wants you to run Bitcoinica again, thinking you are a genius FTFY

cool idea, subbed, if the winner payed the postage would you take delivery from BFL then wrap some more paper around it & mail it Registered 'to be signed for' mail to Europe & mark it as 'game cube' 'value $35' or something so as not to attract any undue attention, many thanks

lol, I like it & am going to throw some coins at it, when it eventually does go TU will you be posting the history of it all, deposits, withdrawals, interest payed, balances etc (I'm happy to be openly ID-ed) - perhaps then I could claim my reckless ponzi gamble as academic research - PMing now for an account

I see a potential problem with the new UI for BitLotto: - http://www.BitLotto.comThe space "above the fold" should only have one address, in my opinion -- the address for the current draw. Being a repeat visitor I had visually scanned the page, and within a couple of seconds had highlighted and copied the address that I thought was the current draw's address. Ends up after doing a sanity check (and reading the text before and after the address), I realized that was the address for the previous month's winner. So that other impatient people such as myself don't inadvertently send payments to the previous month's winner, you might wish to change that somehow. Perhaps remove the address and link the word winner to the page with the details somehow or otherwise make it so that my mistake isn't so easily repeatable. sadly no one has as yet followed though with this mistake, but I live in hope

Just out of interest did Metro Bank fix their issue yesterday as they mentioned they would to you guys?
May 26, 2012, 6:57 a.m. Donald
Hi,
The issue is simply a software issue on their end of which they are aware. They have confirmed this and are working to fix it. As it is now the weekend we are sorry to inform that it will likely not be fixed until at least Monday.
It is not a payment issue just an access issue so do not worry. There will be a record of your payment.
If you do not have your payment when that message goes down, please reopen the ticket. We had a very similar problem about 2 months ago with Metro bank, they resolved it in a timely manner. By that I mean that is took about 2 business days I believe. Unfortunately this is going to extend over the weekend (the tech department is closed on the weekend at the bank).
We have previously banked in the UK with Lloyds and HSBC. Both accounts created incredibly serious problems for us. Very few banks in the UK would even open an account for us. Metro however is very supportive of bitcoin and our group. Since we have 100 to 1000 times more transactions then other customers of any UK bank it is understandable that there are occasional issues as their software is not made for our activity. Still Metro have been very supportive and we are sure they are working to the best of their abilities.
We are sorry for the inconvenience. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
Sincerely, Team Intersango Well I have to credit him for putting the hours in at least, last support PM to me was after 11pm & this one is before 7am on a Saturday, I've made other arrangements now & cancelled my GBP withdrawal request as it wasn't able to go through in the time that I needed it to

not sure if better to post here or on the GLBSE thread but https://glbse.com/asset/view/PPT.A the price & volume charts show info from about 24 April to 15 May, perhaps from the original PPT-A, anyway it makes it confusing - I imagine especially for newbies
