I <3 it, fab game, maybe a bit more graphics when the bites/fights are on would work well, churning water & blood splatterings etc
2122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are litecoins worth 6 cents? on: November 22, 2012, 08:39:15 PM
because crypto currencies could well be huge, they can do what nothing else before can & Litecoin is very set up for fast confirmation niche markets & ppl can still be early adapters there:

http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,884.msg3897.html#msg3897

The British Museum has added some Casascius bitcoins to it's permanent display on the evolution of money exhibition but Cas & devs don't want to take the next step of getting them set up with something to show their coin's addresses value on the blockchain live & QR codes etc so that visitors could donate to it just as they anonymously donate cash atm, could this be an opportunity to get litecoin out in the public eye & demonstrate it's potential - if so what would be the best thing to offer to donate to the museum to enable this?

Re niche uses, I'm thinking fairly low value uses where also waiting for a few confirmations isn't a problem, one potential enormous world wide one could be parking fees as the vehicle is going to be there for like at least 10 minutes for plenty of ltc confirmations & it would give an alternative to paying in cash, one could even top up one's fee if that's permitted by smart phone etc at a distance if the ticket machine generated a new address for each client & visit, it could even perhaps do away with tickets altogether if you just punched in your vehicle registration number, it then gives you an address to send to for that visit & when a warden comes round they just download the info in to a hand held device to be able to check against the vehicles parked in that zone. In the future your vehicle may just connect remotely to the paying system & do this for you - you just tell it how long you plan to stay or it keeps topping up until the maximum allowed visit time & sms you an alert, would also work well for congestion zone charges.

Train/bus etc tickets would work well as you are on them long enough for confirmations to take place, license fees also.

Another type of use could be photo booths as you pay first, get your pics taken then have to wait a few minutes for them to be developed which gives time for the confirmations to take place before it releases the pics to you, maybe hot food vending machines too where you have to wait for the product to be heated up.

Obviously crypto coins are ideal for charity donations as there is no incentive there for givers to double spend & no net loss anyway if they did.

Edit to add, for conventional vending machines they could give you a PIN number instead of the product & it's redeemable after 10 minutes or sufficient confirmations, would work for say cigarette machines in bars etc, stuff like gold ingots in hotels or airports where ppl will be waiting around anyway.

I've moved GBP plenty of times to Gox via http://www.xe.com/xetrade/ & prefer sending it in $s which is pre-converted at 1.4% to 1.7% from the www.xe.com mid spot rate, use the ACH/EFT then Wire options to send for free (& not Wire then Wire or you'll get a £12 fee from xe & a $13 fee from Gox's bank), this rate is much better than my UK bank offer & if you send on a Monday the funds should be cleared to your Gox account by Friday & it can all be done online & by Internet banking.

Edit: I only trade with $s on Gox as that's where the liquidity & best spread is, if you trade with other currencies there you lose via their conversion fee if you're not trading against someone else in that currency & also they can & do run out of non $ funds if you try to withdraw sometimes, see: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/13mbhd/mtgox_says_theyre_out_of_funds_to_pay_my/

This time there's BTC addresses associated.

Holders can sign their communications with their private key.

Identifying yourself should be more than safe and easy with that method.

I have no idea how to do this as I've never learned & mostly stick to blockchain.info wallet, he has email address for communication & assuming dividends etc are sent to the associated BTC address no signing should be needed hopefully, not sure if he has GLBSE account ID names but if so mine is the same as my forum one here.
http://blog.smickles.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/blockchain.info_sign_message_menu.png You can a blockchain.info wallet to sign with an address.
  • Log into you wallet
  • Go to the 'Receive Money' tab
  • Click on the 'Actions' button associated with the address you want to use
Simple as that Wink

Thank you very much smickles I wasn't aware of that facility, very useful & helpful of you to point it out.

2126  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Where is wallet.dat file path in Mac OSX Lion? on: November 20, 2012, 08:43:44 PM
um, you mean let the client wallet open it? Is there no way to see what the private keys are that are stored in the wallet.dat file or it always needs to be opened via the client & if so can one see the private keys on the client? Many thanks for the quick reply.

If you want to see them you can use the RPC command window and use dumpriv or you can use pywallet, the wallet.dat isn't readable thru any other means.

Ah OK many thanks that explains why I haven't been able to get to them as yet, I shall look in to those options & try to learn how to work them - I'm really only used to blockchain.info wallet where one can see the private keys & export them easily without needing high tech knowledge, mostly I want to find this out for use with the litecoin client wallet where there aren't alternatives atm otherwise I probably wouldn't bother.

I guess that maybe it would be simpler for me to just duplicate the whole client wallet in order to back it up but I prefer to know the actual private keys to the addresses where I place funds though the client wallet will just create new addresses & move change to them if you use it which I wish could be disabled by choice, anyway interesting to learn a little more of how it all works.

Heya Trader Steve,
The location of ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/ is correct. Lion does hide this directory in a weird way, but to access it, simply do this:

1.) Click the Finder icon on the dock
2.) press Command+SHIFT+"G" to "Go to the folder"
3.) Input "~/Library" and hit RETURN.

This will bring you into your logged-in user's Library folder. From there you can navigate to Application Support -> Bitcoin.

hope this helps!
-Robert

your about 11 months too late Smiley

But still very useful for me having just found this thread from Google search, could someone now explain in simple terms how to open the wallet.dat file, ie with what application to use I guess as just clicking on it seems to try to open it in a music or video playing app which won't work for this, many thanks.

To all Gigaminers:

Late yesterday I received an asset holder list from GLBSE. Per the email received, the list may grow some more so it may not be the final list.

This is good news as it means step one is near completion. I will be working with counsel later today and possibly into next week to finalize the next steps and to clarify what has to be done and why.

Best regards,
gigavps

Good news indeed!

Bitcoin's horoscopes for Monday November 19, 2012

The arrival of Mars in Capricorn is a biennial event. You last benefited from such an astrological influence between December 2010 and January 2011. This latest iteration of your periodic astrological advantage lasts until Christmas Day. It doesn't automatically make you the living embodiment of the seasonal spirit (Mars is more about determination, than generosity), but it does imply that wherever there is now a project that you need to see through to a successful conclusion, you have rarely been in a stronger position.

Bitcoin's horoscope for the week ahead, Saturday, 17 November 2012

Mars moves into your sign this week, bringing you strength and stamina. There is a most encouraging suggestion of imminent success. Whilst it is true that this planetary placement also implies the need to work very hard and to endure a number of uncomfortable challenges, there is really no reason why you should let this be a problem to you. The gains that you look set to make soon, will far outweigh any of the compromises, or even sacrifices, that life now appears to be requesting from you.

The week ahead in general

Mars takes about two years to complete one cycle of the zodiac. On average, it spends about 2 months in each sign. This though, is an average. Due to the phenomenon of retrograde motion, it can sometimes linger longer. As if to compensate for this, Mars is now seemingly hurtling along. It enters yet another new sector of the sky this week and, no matter what sign you are, you'll notice the change of pace. It should soon become much easier for all of us to form constructive plans and achieve practical goals.

This service still being offered?

If you meant my offer then sry the answer is no as I don't give my bank details or accept payments to it from ppl who openly post to be doing business on the SR even if that was just buying some aspirins or something, it isn't the type of thing that I wish to facilitate or to be seen possibly connected to in any way.

Re: Silk road down for second day, what's going on? thread

Glad to see it's back up and running. It seemed to be working yesterday but it kept logging me out and the captcha part of the login screen wasn't working properly but was able to login and finalize and order I'd received prior to it going offline. They're also limiting new registrations so the problem doesn't reoccur.

blockexplorer is not recording any TX sent to your address, http://blockexplorer.com/address/18WqN5PttF2LQTSXcykC4zPVoorDZ9FCC2
ask the seller for the TX (transaction) proof that it's been sent maybe (as it provably has not yet been sent to your address), you have like 45 days or something to lodge a claim with PP & most likely they would chargeback the funds to you np, perhaps he didn't send it as the price has just taken off somewhat I expect or maybe just a scammer who moved the funds off a stolen/disposable PP account fast, if it was via eBay then open a dispute right away imo.

eg, I just sent you 0.0001 btc & it can be seen instantly here:

Bitcoin's horoscopes for Friday November 16, 2012

A tense alignment between Uranus and Saturn has been magnifying everything. Your most optimistic opinions seem more justified than ever. Yet oddly, your greatest fears and worries appear more powerful and relevant too. You are swinging between extremes and so too are the pieces of information that you keep getting. Certain people don't seem to know if they are coming or going and it's hard to get a sense of your own direction whilst theirs is so vague. Be clear in yourself and positive too - then all will swiftly improve.

...
Or is there a way to send a mail to his old address and saying "if moved send back with new address"? Its possible in germany but they tell you the new address only when the receiver said that its allowed to do so when he enabled the forwarding-address-contract.
...

No, but if you write to him at his old address then if he set up mail forwarding with the Royal Mail he'll get it sent on to him & also if his ex-landlord or who ever lives at his old address knows & is forwarding mail to him then he'll also get it, best to write "Please Forward" on it & maybe make it look important & official - at least printed or a hand written personal type letter - neat with a return address so that it may be sent back to you if not forwarded so that you'll know. Alternatively write to 'the present occupier' of his old address & ask them to email you his new address if they have it may work, or check who his ex-landlord was for that property & write to him/her.

Congrats! I bought an additional 1,000 shares yesterday that you can add to those I listed on your form for the paid upgrade path, many thanks.

Thanks for the update Otoh.

37% of all outstanding bonds have now reported in.

Hi,

I have lost a lot of coins recently with borrowers defaulting & those delaying repayment, not to mention the value & liquidity of my GIGAMINING bonds & BTCMC shares that's been heavily lost. This means that I may well not be able to afford or be able to take the risk of your paid upgrade path, I shall look in to it nearer the time but thought it only fair to advise you of my changed circumstances, I have 1,500 bonds & am not planning on shorting them & driving the price down still further.

Cheers,
Otoh

After this in order to get a number dividable by 9, I bought 2 bonds on the 27th Sept @ 0.541 btc & 28 bonds on the 3rd Oct @ 0.541 btc to bring my total to 1530 bonds, I withdrew the dividends nearly every Monday to an address that I still control as can be shown in the blockchain:

http://blockexplorer.com/address/1G5apmPvo2iTtmkNWAHTCET7Y842Ufijs8

27 Aug: 23.4 btc div on 1500 bonds
3 Sept: 21.6375 btc div on 1500 bonds
10 Sept: 20.775 btc div on 1500 bonds
17 Sept: 19.6125 btc div on 1500 bonds
24 Sept: 18.9375 btc div on 1500 bonds
1 Oct: 18.4746 div on 1502 bonds - not withdrawn as left on GLBSE to go towards the purchase of 28 more bonds 2 days later.

So in summary this is my claim for the bonds that I own, 1530 in total, if & when nefario chooses to confirm this it will be shown to be true & accurate & if he doesn't then it's about as close to proving the truth of this as can be managed atm afaik, if there is anything else anyone would like me to add I'd be happy to, any suggestions welcome, I also probably have some screen shots & downloaded TX histories from GLBSE to back this up.

2140  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: November 11, 2012, 04:47:42 PM
I received in Spain from Romania: issues #2 & #3 plus 1 of the 3 extra copies of issue #1 that I had ordered, support were excellent when told about the 2 missing copies, the envelopes are a bit flimsy & could easily fall apart as there seems to be some rough postal handling along the way that leaves them ragged, one had a mud stained tear & someone had snipped off a corner (cutting corners Wink) I guess to peek at the contents, anyway they got through & I'm delighted with them - some plane reading for the visit to London tomorrow.

I still haven't received the missing 2 copies of issue #1 though, contacting support again now for the second time.

Edit: Support replied instantly & apparently they were sent out from The States 2 months ago but appear lost in transit which is very unusual in my experience, anyway they have kindly offered to re-send them FOC, excellent customer service.
