2221  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanity Pool - vanity address generator pool on: October 05, 2012, 12:29:03 PM
I am definitely interested in offering decent bounties for some vanity addresses, when requesting one can't just enter a bitcoin address (that one knows the private key for) so could someone explain in non-geek how does one generate the public key from a bitcoin address & link to a safe generator if that's needed to do it & once the vanity address is created how does one add the 2 private keys together & get a private key for the vanity address that can be imported in to say a blockchain.info wallet, also where does one enter the bounty offered or does that part come after successfully requesting the vanity address?

On looking further I see one needs an ECDSA keypair for the public & private keys, can this format be found in the Import/Export part of blockchain.info wallets or does one need to generate these somehow - if so how & where safely, many thanks, sry if this is very basic but other non tech types like myself will also probably be challenged by how to get this set up & links on the request page would help this, I know the site links to various threads & the answers are probably there but I've found them too long & technical to just get that info so far.
2222  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure are Mt Gox wallets? on: October 04, 2012, 03:34:43 PM
also if you do choose to keep a sizable balance on Mt. Gox for convenience &/or trading then as well as their Yubikey being essential, I would recommend the email address associated with it to be something like a gmail one with 2FA (can be just SMS to a non smart phone) & the passwords to both Mt. Gox & gmail to be stored & accessed with www.lastpass.com premium service that uses another Yubikey, you can also generate good different random passwords on Lasspass - say 20 characters with a-z, CAPS, 0-9 & specials eg: 2IyR0^3Zv%#p#Nworb01*RC

Bitcoin's horoscope for Thursday October 04, 2012

Changes of the nature that we're now seeing in the sky don't come along every day - or even every year. The movement of Saturn into a new sector of the sky is particularly important for you as a Capricorn. Saturn traditionally governs your sign. You're reaching what can be best described as the end of an era. Think, for example, of how things alter once you climb off a train that you have been traveling on and start to explore a new destination. That's about the size of the difference that you're about to encounter.

Saturn moves in to Scorpio tomorrow & stays there until 2015.

I would like to go on record in this thread at this time for 2 points:

1) I believe this payback to be in preparation for a larger scam in the future

2) I believe some of the posters that replied that they were paid back in full are sock-puppets of Vescudero.  Most of the <100 post count users should be looked at for questionable posting history.  I also believe he actually did pay back some real "investors" too.  It is easy to lie about the size of his payback - did we get any block-chain verification for this?  of course not.

I just wanted this on record with a time stamp that Vescudero is 100% a scammer still.  He is going for a longer scam.

My loan of 304 BTC from the 23/6 re-payed in full on 9/9 with that week's interest of 4.56 BTC, tx: https://blockchain.info/address/1CTHZ4Q6voJuTW5u6V89e4F4PGZfJkPbYz

Total interest on it received over the term was: 59 BTC +

Also Casascius coins for 10 BTC silver 1 oz rounds (2 types) & 1,000 BTC 1 oz fine gold rounds Tongue

Highly recommended! If you wish to combine PMs with BTC together in a single physical item.

Yubikeys have been added as a method of two factor authentication.

Currently supported are standard yubikeys (ordered from Yubico).

We will add support for MtGox Yubikeys once I get the key in the post.

Nefario.

I assume that it is safe to use the same Yubikey then on different sites & the key generates a code that is specific only to that site at that time rather than one that could say also be used to also access Mt. Gox if one had the password too, sry for my lack of knowing the tech for these & thanks for having implemented this - I much prefer Yubikeys to other 2FA as I don't have a smart phone.

@sturle, you can just treat it as entertainment or ignore it if it irritates you np, the aspects over the weekend were in general & not specifically connected to Bitcoin, I assumed that as things would seem tough for everyone then there may well have been a lack of optimism & a sell off - especially as most TA indicators have been forecasting this for a while now, as it happened my interpretation/timing was incorrect [Edit: the $2 sell off was the following weekend] & in future I shall look more specifically at Bitcoin's chart before making such predictions.

I went all in again yesterday btw, which is where I feel happiest anyway as I see a bright future for Bitcoin & a great public awareness of what it uniquely offers by 2017. Re: "full on" Urban Dictionary has it as meaning:

•fully ecstatically wondrous

•beyond joyfully amazing

•intensely orgasmically blissful

amongst other things, hope this helps Wink
2231  Economy / Collectibles / Re: CASASCIUS PHYSICAL BITCOIN - In Stock Now! (pic) on: October 02, 2012, 10:17:45 PM
Edit: And for a size comparison for Europeans, there's the €2 and €0.05 coin.

That's quite a beautiful collection.

Some day my coin collector buddies are going to wonder why they didn't act on my recommendation to grab a couple of these while they are still:

 a.) using
"early coins" (funded with transactions in 2011 and 2012)
and
b.) still being made (e.g., Rev 1 of the One BTC coins are either done or near done being produced, as far as I know -- or at least of a limited quantity for a "key date"/first release.)

Whilst at the BTC Conf in London last month I tried to interest one of the oldest coin auction houses there that I've been a client of for a long time in putting some of these in a sale, like a full series from the 1,000 BTC 1 Oz gold coin downwards but they didn't see any of their collectors probably being interested atm, I expect though that in the future early mint Casascius complete series sets could be quite sort after.

Comet Trailer

There's a comet coming! A big, bright one. It won't do damage. It won't come anywhere nearly close enough to have the slightest physical impact on Earth. But it will have a psychological effect on us all. Night after night, towards the end of 2013, this stunning omen of change is due to be as compelling as the Full Moon. This is breaking news. The official calculations have only just been made and, as with all such discoveries, there is a slight chance that it won't be quite so spectacular. But I've got a feeling about this one!

Bitcoin's monthly horoscope for November, 2012

On top form socially you'll be charming all the right people and looking great. Friends will be all around so you'll not be left to your own devices. This is very much the time to widen your circle of acquaintances and to lay down your plans for the longer term. The Scorpio Solar Eclipse is says look ahead and ensure you know where you are going and how to get there. There will be some delays and frustrations up to the 17th but thereafter you'll be forging ahead sweeping obstacles and slow coaches to one side. Just have a care that you are not too hasty since certain situations will require a more determined patience to sort out. Hashing and crashing ahead won't bring you the results you need.

Hi,

It's been 9 days now since I emailed support to apply for ACH withdrawal status to be set up on my account with you, I sent you my full bank account details plus photo of my ID, but so far with no acknowledgment, no reply, no response to my post in your thread asking after this & the ACH has not been enabled on my account as yet.

Copied to your thread & would appreciate an update, thanks.

Otoh

Edit PS - I've just bought 800 coins on Gox that could/might have been done on your exchange otherwise, which would at least have made a few coins for the compensation fund of those who had theirs stolen from you. Just checked - not much Ask volume on BitFloor atm so maybe it would have been just a few unless there was hidden interest waiting for Bids.
2235  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Mybitcointrade.com | High Interest 2.5%-5%/w | 20% on Bonds| AAA- |Since 07/2011 on: October 01, 2012, 08:56:59 PM
Maybe they're trying to drag it out in the hope that pirate pays something on the 4th or 12th or when ever he last said, not that I would put any faith in that happening ever.

So you're implying that mybitcointrade reinvested user funds into Pirate's BCS&T? Hmmm, makes sense.

Well every other borrower who is now in default either did this blatantly directly & lied about it, or did it inadvertently by lending on to others who then placed the funds with pirate when they lied about what the borrowings were going to be for, but to have lent to them was not appraising the very obvious risks of this happening sufficiently & making provision, either way all the money isn't there to repay or at least some payments would have been made by now to show good faith & it doesn't need a web site to do - to me it looks like he will try to just keep (steal) what he has in hand & any extra he can get back from a few of the ppl he lent on to before coming clean about this or just disappearing.

I believe that he had over 6,000 coins with pirate which I thought were his own, now I doubt that they all were by any means.

Congratulation to you & your wife Victor, you saved my faith in being able to trust others in the Bitcoin world & have more than made up for the tax that I sometimes pay to do so, just as in real life I prefer this way to becoming totally cynical, you've made a big difference.

I hadn't realized until now that FirstBit addresses weren't case sensitive, so although they're always generated all in lower case (112rxk) you can also use an upper case version np.
