@squatter. However, advertising the mixer as a privacy, not a money laundering tool but linking and showing advertising banners of the mixer on a darknet site that sells illegal drugs might I reckon.

In any case, this is the advisory from FinCEN about mixers as money transmitters on page 19.

The only 1 who was able to stop Jones was DC imo).
Why? Because of the drugs involved in their second fight? Even though Jones kind of cheated, I wouldn't consider that as a win for DC also.

I think DC was the only one who had real chances of beating Jones. Ok, except Reyes, dont know much about this guy. But if to compare DC and Reyes records, DC won more elite fighters than Reyes. Would be nice to see DC vs Reyes, to find out who is right, but to bad DC is aiming to make a third fight agains Miocic and that is going to be his last fight in career.

There was also Jon versus the Mauler Alexander Gustafsson 1. Many fans and analysts have also said that they would accept a decision for Gustafsson if it was made. Part 2 was Jon's dominance shown, however. I reckon we would witness something similar for Jon versus Dominic Reyes 2 hehehee.
5703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum in 5 years on: February 15, 2020, 01:30:10 AM
Since most of the platform as of today are built on the Ethereum blockchain, if they continue to maintain this standard, we might see ETH price by 2022 to be 0.2BTC per ETH most especially is implemented to improve performance

A standard of what, however? Ethereum does not even scale. Also, the creation of Ethereum 2.0 appears to be an admission that 1.0 is a failure, I reckon.
5704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FinCen Deputy Director remarks on Cryptocurrency on: February 15, 2020, 12:21:34 AM
@squatter. Agreed. However, if the department of justice wins this case, it appears that they can refer to any mixer as a money transmitting and money laundering business.

They should not win this. Our privacy is a basic right.
5705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Helix tumbler / bitcoin mixer founder indicted for money laundering on: February 14, 2020, 11:56:48 PM
@mk4. Helix might have been advertised on Alphabay as the only recommended mixer by the darknet market site.

@squatter. It also appears that we should be careful. We might not be safe from something that we did years ago in the cryptospace.

In any case Coininja was owned by Larry Harmon and Coinninja invested $2 million in Bitrefill according to Crunchbase. What might this imply for Bitrefill?
5706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: February 14, 2020, 04:42:30 AM
Clippers showed their heart, however, they should do more to win the western conference versus top teams like the Lakers , Nuggets and the Rockets during the playoffs.

They also should stop losing on the road. This will harm them during any playoff round.

@bbc.reporter

I agree with you that IF there is a mining cartel, then all sorts of bad things happen, not only manipulating supply but also censorship, confiscation, and even inflation.

I don't quite see how a mining cartel can manipulate the supply. Any miners who violate the emission rule get immediately ignored by the network as they're seen as following a different protocol (like how Bitcoin Cash is irrelevant to Bitcoin).

I think he was referring to a single entity that holds a large portion of remaining coins being able to manipulate the above ideas due to the fact that average joe does not have many coins. Sort of like how Coinbase has a large % of certain coins, where if those were to disappear from the market, could adversely affect market valuations.

Supply wise, once tail emissions kick in, the above holder can manipulate the chain in many ways. It's no different than one ASIC operator controlling 93.5% of a blockchains hash power for two years, most likely to increase holdings for such a manner.

Yes, similar to the control of the diamond market by the De Beers where they manipulate the prices. I reckon that this might done more on cryptocoins with unlimited supply and miners place themselves as something similar to the federal reserve hehehe.
5708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FinCen Deputy Director remarks on Cryptocurrency on: February 14, 2020, 02:15:57 AM
@squatter. I do not know all the details, however, all the news articles about it already points to something bad for the cryptospace.

In any case, have you heard of this latest arrest? The American government should not win this and begin to set it as a binding example of what they can use for other cases. This will be bad for the cryptospace and bad our mandatory human right to privacy.

I reckon they will use this to impose themselves over us.

US DOJ Calls Bitcoin Mixing ‘a Crime’ in Arrest of Software Developer

Larry Harmon was arrested earlier this week for allegedly participating in a money-laundering conspiracy worth more than $300 million in cryptocurrency involving darknet marketplace AlphaBay. However, the family of the Coin Ninja CEO claims he was never involved with AlphaBay.

Harmon’s case raises pressing questions about developer liability in the crypto industry.

In addition to the crypto media site Coin Ninja, Harmon created the bitcoin mixer Helix, which sends transactions out in mixed batches so individual payments are harder to trace. In its indictment, Department of Justice prosecutors refer to Helix as a “money transmitting and money laundering business.”

“Helix enabled customers, for a fee, to send bitcoins to designated recipients in a manner which was designed to conceal and obfuscate the source or owner of the bitcoins,” the indictment continues. “This type of service is commonly referred to as a bitcoin ‘mixer’ or ‘tumbler.’”

@LeGaulois. You forgot to include the date of news on the title. Moderators might delete this thread.

In any case, this is bad news for the freedom and the right for privacy for the whole cryptospace if upheld. Also, what does this imply for Dropbit and Coininja? According to Crunchbase, Coininja invested $2 million on Bitrefill. What does this also imply for Bitrefill?

5710  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2020 betting on: February 13, 2020, 03:09:22 AM
@passwordnow. A foreign movie winning best picture, best director and best foreign film makes it appear that american cinema is not as creative as it used to be. They are presently only good in creating action comic book movies hehehe.

In any case, watch Snowpiercer from the same director as Parasite. The cinematography goes from left to right when the characters go from a lower social class to higher instead of bottom to top similar to Parasite hehe.

I will lock this thread after some discussions.

Are there already countries where the cryptocoin exchanges ask for your income tax returns, employment information, source of other income and the address of your homes?

America might be the first.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Congress on Wednesday that the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) is set to release new requirements related to cryptocurrencies.

Mnuchin offered few details on the move when speaking before the Senate Finance Committee. However, he remarked that "specifically on cryptocurrencies, we are spending a lot of time on this, on both an interagency basis and with the regulators."

“We're about to roll out some significant new requirements at FinCEN," he said during the hearing, though he offered no specifics on the timing of the move.

5712  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-02-08] Police Shuts Down Bitcoin Mine Over Coronavirus on: February 13, 2020, 12:57:55 AM
Where are those who are telling everyone that the corona virus will be good for bitcoin? Any world crisis creating event will never be good for anything. Those people creating those types of storyboards only want a pump.

It is good for bitcoin.
Shutting down Chinese farms means more decentrlization
So, it is good for bitcoin /s

Agreed, that would be good. However, the question and the criticism was targeted to those people who do not think and pump the idea that a crisis would be always good for bitcoin's price because bitcoin can fix this.
5713  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-16] Chainalysis traced $2.8 billion crime bitcoin sent to Binance Huobi on: February 13, 2020, 12:21:32 AM
@bryant.coleman. $2.8 billion might be small compared to the global scale of the total on financial crimes, however, it is continuing to grow in the cryptospace. Darknet revenues were up 100% according to another report by Chainalysis.
5714  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: February 12, 2020, 02:56:19 AM
~ We saw a tired JJ that could get KO'ed from Reyes in any moment, we saw him that he is no longer in his prime for years now ~
No one can argue that he is not past his prime but tired and KO'ed at any moment? Come on now. Did you see how Reyes punches slowed down and was just swinging in the later rounds? Did you see how many times Jones just kept moving forward after getting hit?

~ Maybe the consistent pressure he gave (like what joe rogan said)? If that's the case then do you really believe it weighs greater than Reyes' tons of sharp punches he threw? You decide. But for me, nah I don't think so.
Part of the judging criteria was cage control and I don't remember one criteria having more weight than the other.

Although scoring is done round by round in the UFC, Reyes really fell short in rounds four and five. They call them championship rounds for a reason.

When all the emotions are gone, we should probably watch the fight again and without all the commentaries.
I watched the replay 2x (with commentaries) and round two, for me, was really won by Jones and the fourth and fifth.

I also watched the replay yesterday. It strengthened my decision that Dominic Reyes won round 1, 2, and 3, however hehehe.

I am also sad that Jonny Walker lost his last fight. He might be the one.
5715  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Oscar Awards 2020 betting on: February 12, 2020, 02:16:44 AM
I did not win anything on the oscars this year hehehe.

@passwordnow. Parasite also won best director which was very surprising for it to win the 2 categories if it was also nominated and won the best foreign film category.

5716  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-02-08] Police Shuts Down Bitcoin Mine Over Coronavirus on: February 12, 2020, 12:01:51 AM
Those sites are trying to profit from any hot headline, especially Bitcoin and Coronavirus.
Assuming the news is correct, how many farms have been closed, one, two, ten? Does it make a difference?
China is going through an emergency and even the farms that were closed because of the virus, but this does not mean that it has been closed forever, it will return to work again. The vacation in China will end today, the closure may last for another week, but the major companies are operating normally with no delay.

In short, the news to attract views.

That's right and I think that we are focused way too much on this "how corona virus will affect bitcoin and mining?" topic.People are dying from the virus and the only thing we care about is the impact of the virus over Bitcoin. This is ridiculous.Bitcoin is doing just fine. There's no need to spread panic and trust some probably fake news.Even if the mines are shutdown, this won't last forever.

It is only news and speculating on what might occur next. What is worse are those people who spins a crisis into good news for bitcoin's price because bitcoin can fix everything.
5717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum 2.0 delays thread on: February 11, 2020, 03:55:32 AM
I am not wishing for a delay, I am also not hoping for anything bad on this project. However, I will speculate that there might be a delay on May hehehe.

The ethereum 2.0 depositing process has been leaked with a screenshot showing step by step how 32 eth can be sent from the Proof of Work (PoW) chain to the new Proof of Stake (PoS) Beacon Chain.

So confirming the slides are legit, with ethereum 2.0 waiting for an audit report that hopefully goes out this week. The multi-client testnet then goes out first, hopefully in April, with the deposit contract launching hopefully in May at perhaps the Ethereal Summit in New York.

5718  Economy / Speculation / Tone Vays stands by $4k bitcoin prehalving prediction on: February 11, 2020, 03:16:12 AM
Does Tone Vays want to win the title with the most wrong predictions in the cryptospace versus Tom Lee hehehe?

Bitcoin is on a tear. Against many odds, the number-one cryptocurrency ended the weekend in the five-figure region.

Die-hard Bitcoiners and bullish analysts are rubbing their hands with glee. Crypto Twitter is ablaze with action from the Winklevoss twins to the infamous Holdonaut visibly elated with the latest breakout.

Yet, there’s still one major short-term bearish Bitcoin analyst who’s standing by his prediction. Perma-deadpan Tone Vays still believes that BTC could plummet back to $4k in the months before the Bitcoin Halving.

When called out by the founder of Onchain Capital as to whether he still believed bitcoin would be at $4k before the Halving, Tone Vays responded that there were still two months to go and that “anything can happen.”

5719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FinCen Deputy Director remarks on Cryptocurrency on: February 11, 2020, 02:34:05 AM
This is only a budget proposal, however, if approved on both the lower house and the upper house of congress, it might be the beginning of an erdication in the cryptospace in America. Anyone they do not like, they will disallow.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s $4.8 trillion budget proposal for FY 2021, released Monday, seeks to expand the Treasury Department’s cryptocurrency oversight by returning the United States Secret Service, now a division of the Department of Homeland Security, to its jurisdiction.

The reshuffling would “create new efficiencies” in the Secret Service’s investigation of criminal acts involving cryptocurrencies and the financial marketplace, the executive report reads. It will also give Treasury more fire power to, as the budget reads, “disrupt terrorist financing, hold rogue states and human rights abusers accountable, and detect and deter financial crimes.”

The Secret Service is better known for protecting U.S. presidents and their families, but it is also responsible for investigating a wide range of financial crimes including fraud and counterfeiting, among others.

At Treasury, the Secret Service’s cryptocurrency investigations could dovetail with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a money-laundering watchdog that monitors cryptocurrency-related violations of the Banking Secrecy Act.

DHS, the Secret Service and branches within the Treasury Department have already spent millions of dollars on blockchain analytics, tapping Chainalysis to provide software tools and services.

5720  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-16] Chainalysis traced $2.8 billion crime bitcoin sent to Binance Huobi on: February 11, 2020, 02:08:08 AM
It might be inflated numbers, however, we should know that Chainalysis is not to be underestimated. The blockchain data they collect can be given to the government to use against you.

It started with a $9,000 data software contract for the FBI in 2015.

But just five years later, Chainalysis is now the cryptocurrency-tracing equivalent of Palantir, the data analytics company flush with lucrative government software contracts. Chainalysis is, right now, doing millions of dollars worth of business each year with the U.S. government, dwarfing its competitors in the young industry of blockchain surveillance.

The company is by far Uncle Sam’s leading crypto analysis contractor by spending and has become the go-to firm for 10 federal agencies, departments and bureaus.
