621  Economy / Economics / Re: If you can get paid through cryptocurrency, do you still choose fiat currency? on: August 09, 2021, 06:32:12 AM
In my country, it is possible to pay utility bills and do shopping in supermarkets using cryptocurrency (although not directly, first you need to convert your BTC to gift cards). But even here, some of the payments are not possible in cryptocurrency, such as rent and housemaid salary. For these we need fiat cash. In case I receive 100% of my salary in Bitcoin, then I need to convert at least some of it to fiat in order to pay these bills. And in my case, a large part of my portfolio is in BTC and therefore I will not prefer to receive anymore amount in cryptocurrency.
622  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it easier to HODL if you are already rich? on: August 09, 2021, 06:21:04 AM
Right and this depends on the time of investment also. If you have invested in Bitcoin for some time and have accumulated some profits, it becomes a little more easier for you to take from your profits earned over time but if your investment in Bitcoin was at the top and you have needs, selling will means that you are losing investment. So the time of investment also is important.

Agreed. Those who have invested 4-5 years back will be in good amount of profits now and they can sell some of their coins and book profit. On the other hand, for those who have invested in 2019 or 2018, the time is not yet ripe. At the most they will be in 5x-10x profit. If the initial amount is large, and if Bitcoin comprise a large part of their portfolio, then there is nothing wrong in partial profit booking. But for 90% of the users, the right strategy would be to wait for another couple of years, so that the exchange rates reach six digits.

Dan Christian the hero of the day who picked 5 sixes in a over that turned the match for Australia neither the match could hand over Bangladesh. However today the last match between Bangladesh and Australia...we can see what would be happened today's match?

LOL.. if you take out that over from Dan Christian, then Australia scored a total of 75 runs in 18 overs. That is 4.16 runs per over. Seriously? Was it that difficult to bat? Shakib Al Hasan conceded 50 runs from his 4 overs. And that is almost 50% of what Australia scored. Mustafizur Rahman on the other hand conceded 9 runs from his 4 overs and picked up two wickets. Overall, this particular series is very weird. And I don't know whether it is entirely due to the ground conditions, or any other factor played its part.
624  Economy / Economics / Re: Risk of Inflation in Economy. on: August 08, 2021, 05:03:03 PM
The energy prices don't have anything to do with Biden policies.  Keystone wouldn't be producing for years still and same with fracking on federal lands.  None of this impacted the current supply, so none of this impacted the current prices.  The prices are reactive to actual supply changes from OPEC, not policy decisions that would have changed supply 3-5 years from now.

If the government remains neutral, then the shale oil producers in the United States should be able to rapidly increase their production. Some of these producers are profitable at crude oil prices of $40 per barrel, while almost all of them would return profits at $60. And the current prices (WTI) are close to $70 per barrel. Ideally the shale oil producers should be rushing to restart their rigs, but they are not doing that for now. The OPEC has announced that 400k daily increase will be there from September onwards, and this should make sure that the price stays at ~$70 per barrel.

I wonder when cricket is so popular in England, why not it is being played in its neighboring countries ? England should convince and promote cricket in Germany and all other European countries.

The neighboring countries of England have a rich cricketing history. There are dozens of cricket clubs in Scotland, Ireland and Channel Islands, and some of them are hundreds of years old. On the other side of the channel, there are close to 40 cricket clubs in the Netherlands (although the number is declining for some time), around a dozen in Denmark and a few in Germany.

The problem is that during the Sharad Pawar-N Srinivasan era the ICC completely cut-off funding for the associate nations. Teams like Scotland and Netherlands saw their funding reduced by 90% and the reduction was 100% for the smaller nations.

And then the ICC changed the eligibility criteria. Until 2012 or so, only citizens could represent a national team. But as a result of the new law, anyone who has resided in a particular country for 6 months could represent that country. Those teams that used to field native players fared poorly against the mercenary teams. This completed the rout that was started by the funding cut. Until 10 years ago, there were native players in almost every European team. Now 90% of the European teams don't have a single native player.
626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 08, 2021, 04:21:25 PM
The Olympics were way more entertaining than the first test match between India and England which was boring and ended as a draw. England got lucky since India looked like they would easily win.

Rain continues wreaking havoc as usual and it could affect the upcoming matches between them destroying another high profile series. Sad!

Maybe the ICC should start adding a reserve day, in case more than 180 overs of the match gets washed out? Due to the COVID pandemic, a number of bilateral tours are now being played in off-season, and this increases the risk of washouts. Also the global climate change is resulting in increasingly irregular weather across the globe. The broadcasters are losing money, but the cricket boards themselves are not directly affected. At this point, the minimum that the ICC can do is to add a reserve day.

Has anyone seen the tri-series between Germany, Norway and France? I knew these teams played football, but didn’t know that they also participated in the game of cricket. Germany is 33rd in the rankings, Norway is 38th, but I can't find France in the rankings. The German team is also playing well enough in cricket too, I think they will rise to the top of the rankings very soon.

It was being shown live in Fancode App. I watched the first few minutes of today's match and it was showing a bunch of Indians and Pakistanis playing against each other wearing the jersey of Germany/Norway. I couldn't find a single citizen of any of these three countries in the team. Maybe I can also organize a tournament tomorrow, by asking some of my neighbours to wear the jerseys of different world nations and then claim that the matches are being played between these countries. International cricket has become a sham nowadays. In none of the other sports they allow this.
628  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 08, 2021, 04:01:36 PM
As for the general interest in the Olympiad, it falls every time, this is obvious. And no amount of action by the Olympic committee to add new sports to attract a young audience is helping.

From where did you get this feeling? I have travelled to 3-4 countries and I could say that all of them takes Olympics extremely seriously. And I heard from my friends in India that the entire country is celebrating non-stop, since Neeraj Chopra won their first ever athletics gold yesterday. Maybe in authoritarian countries such as Russia, national sports teams are associated with the regimes in power and that may result in people not supporting them. But I can assure you that in 95% of the countries that is not the case.
629  Economy / Economics / Re: Risk of Inflation in Economy. on: August 06, 2021, 05:12:11 AM
There are also natural disaster that contributes among inflation which sometimes beyond our capacity.

Drastic times need drastic measures. But at the same time, the governments should not use such situations as an excuse to implement their radical policies. Look at what is happening in the United States. It has been only a few months since Joe Biden took office. And he has already announced trillions of USD worth of additional spending measures. And from where the money is going to come from? He has proposed a few measures, that looks unrealistic. So in the end, to cover the deficit they will either issue more treasury bonds, or print more banknotes.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 06, 2021, 05:00:42 AM
Actually, looking at the sporting events that the United States is participating in, they still have a lot of opportunities to catch up with China. Today their gold medal difference is only 4. If I'm not mistaken the United States still has a lot of finals and a few qualifiers. There are still 20 more games for the United States, this is more than China. Maybe you look the schedule for AS and China

Very difficult to make a prediction now. China has a chance to win some more golds in boxing, wrestling, diving and karate. Also the gold medal match for table tennis (men's) is today. On the other hand, the US will have an upper hand in golf, basketball, volleyball and some of the track and field items. It looks as if US have more gold medal competitions, but the gap is still significant (34 vs 30). That said, this is an outstanding performance from China, who were not even in the top-2 favorites when sportsbooks published their initial odds.
631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The market situation is deteriorating day by day.. on: August 05, 2021, 07:36:04 AM
These sort of threads just create panic in the market. Unless you are a day trader, these short term fluctuations should not impact you directly. Most of the users here are holding their coins for the medium to long term, and they have their target price when they want to go for profit booking. Only the inexperienced ones get panicked by these short-term dips and sell their coins at low prices. Personally I don't see any issue with the current market situation. And I believe that the next rally can start at any time now.
632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Altcoin Safe for Investment on: August 05, 2021, 07:23:58 AM
What does the OP mean by "safe"? Why those who are in search of "safe" investment flock to the cryptocurrency market? I am saying this because cryptocurrency is anything but safe. There is no guarantee that the coin or token which you are investing in will remain in the market after a few months. That is why the cryptocurrency market is suitable only for those who have a very high risk appetite. Even if you invest in Bitcoin or any of the established altcoins, you should always be open to the possibility of losing all of your investment. For "safe" investment, please purchase treasury notes or gold.
633  Economy / Economics / Re: On Cuba and economy on: August 05, 2021, 06:57:39 AM
No offense - but your words just confirm that you do not understand the mentality of this people, Russians. I'll tell you this - it's not Putin who is shooting at us, citizens of Russia are shooting at us! They were constantly taken prisoner from us, and when they snot and cry and asked them not to "punish", and many of these citizens of Russia told why they came to to us, to our land - "but we have no work in the city, but here they pay money" !!!! Do you understand what scum and bastards are? Due to the fact that he cannot earn money to support his family - he travels for money, to kill neighbors, to rob our country, to destroy everything that was created by us!

If all the Russians were supporting Putin, then the entire Donbass would have been under the control of the rebels by now. It is important to differentiate the evil regime of Putin from the ordinary Russian people. Others have also suffered, but in 99% of the cases the Russian citizens have been the primary victims of the Putin regime. And therefore I don't believe that it is right to blame the Russians without any distinction. At this point, it should not be forgotten that large sections of the Russian population opposes the Putin regime. Many have paid with their lives. Even Alexei Navalny escaped death by a whisker.
634  Economy / Economics / Re: China - everything is fine! But everything is bad ... on: August 05, 2021, 06:06:21 AM
USSR dissolved in 70 years, but CCP now marks its tight grip for 72 years. Are we heading to the endgame of CCP? Maybe, because of covid. The problem with communism/socialism is always about the economy where the higher up corrupt as fuck enriching their inner circle, and the ordinary people remain poor (yes, 1st world countries also have corruption problem, BUT it's not as severe as China). Add it with no freedom of speech and stuff, including covid as the accelerant, literally will make suffering to the max.

Humans can break with a particular level of suffering, and once they break, the government will collapse.

The CCP has avoided mistakes that were committed by the other socialist nations. It is being said that the main reason for the collapse of the USSR was the crash in the oil prices. But that was just a trigger. The real reason was the huge increase in unproductive population in the central Asian states like Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which overburdened the European part of the USSR. And China is taking steps to avoid a repetition of that scenario. They have imposed strict birth controls in Xinjiang, to prevent the unproductive population from exploding.
635  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is key to the future of Twitter, Jack Dorsey says on: August 05, 2021, 05:49:45 AM
This is interesting to read, I do not really use social media because quite honestly I really think that a lot of people waste a great deal of their time there, however if your observation that a great deal of the interest that comes to this market comes from Twitter and other social media platforms is right then it is important that we got the support from those platforms and at least in the case of Twitter it seems this is the case, let's just hope that this continues to be the case.

It is up to the individual to decide where they want to spend their time. A few years back, I used to spend 2-3 hours every day in Facebook. But then I realized that it wastes a lot of time and then I deleted the account. The only social media platforms that I use right now are Twitter and Linkedin. I use Twitter because it is possible to get uncensored news, without any bias. The mainstream media can no longer be relied because of their bias and censorship. There are hundreds of millions who share my views. So if Dorsey takes a positive view about Bitcoin, then it will have a big impact.
636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 05, 2021, 04:59:06 AM
It is a five-match series and Australia has already lost 2, If they want to win this series they have to win all three matches. I do not think it would be possible looking at the way they have been playing lately. T20 is pretty much unpredictable but if looking at the way Australian teams played you do not need many predictions.

In the first match they made a total of 108, and in the second match slightly improved it to 121. And it is not like Bangladesh had legendary bowlers in their attack. The only experienced ones were Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. But the Australians struggled against bowlers like Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam as well. In T20 matches, 110-120 is not a good enough total to guarantee victory. Even in spinning tracks, you need at least 140-150. On top of that, none of the Australian bowlers looks like they are in good form.
637  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Delta back to China on: August 05, 2021, 04:41:51 AM
https://www.reuters.com/world/china/china-reports-96-new-coronavirus-cases-aug-3-vs-90-day-ago-2021-08-04/

After a COVID-free year ,delta variant of Covid-19 spreads to 15 provinces In China. More than 3,000 people have been diagnosed in the news today. This is a terrible thing.
The level of terror is much greater than last year. Will the epidemic become more and more serious?

As long as herd immunity is not achieved on a global scale, more and more lethal strains of the virus will appear and in the end even the vacciated population might need hospitalization. I heard that Pfizer vaccine has an efficacy of only around 40% against the delta strain, although it has almost 100% protection against hospitalization. For the original strain, the efficacy against infection was 95%. And now coming to the east Asian countries such as China, Taiwan and Vietnam, the population in these countries were largely unaffected by the original strain (probably due to the occurrence of naturally occurring antibodies). And therefore it is a very dangerous sign that the delta strain is affecting these populations.
638  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you miss Trump? on: August 04, 2021, 05:33:00 PM
Trump was a very polarizing figure. He is loved by a lot of people, and hated by a similar number. But I appreciate him for one specific fact - he refused to allow any foreign military intervention in the four years of his term. George W Bush had his misadventure in Iraq, which cost the American taxpayer some $2 trillion. Obama did the same with Libya, and converted one of the most prosperous nations in Africa to a third world hellhole. And I am sure that Biden also would repeat the same mistakes done by Bush/Obama.

And secondly, he took on the OPEC cartel. When he was the president, crude oil price was about one-third of what it was in 2014. This saved tens of billions of USD every month, since the US is one of the largest importers of crude oil. And because of Trump, US became the largest crude oil producer in the world. Now Biden is busy rolling back the measures that were created by Trump and the results are there for everyone to see. The crude oil prices have jumped by almost 100% since he took office and the OPEC cartel is rejoicing.
639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 04, 2021, 05:16:57 PM
In the end, its the race between china and USA as who will receive the most medals. Most of the countries aren't able to win any medal in Olympics and return empty handed.  Sad

My country, Pakistan hasn't been able to win any medal in the last 17 years in Olympics. This year we have a hope of one medal.
Arshad Nadeem reaches javelin throw final and that final will be played on 7 August. Underdeveloped countries does not have that much facilities that they can focus on health and nutritionist as compare to the developed countries.

Being underdeveloped is not the proper excuse. Because I have seen some of the poorest countries winning gold medals. Cuba is currently at 13th position, with 5 gold medals and historically they have performed well in Olympics. They are a very small country with one of the highest poverty levels in the world. Some of the African countries, such as Kenya and Ethiopia also perform well in the games. So the issue is not with the lack of funds, but with the mentality of the people. In India and Pakistan, the importance is being given to non-Olympic sports (such as cricket) and that may be the reason.
640  Economy / Economics / Re: EU wants to ban crypto anonymous transactions and wallets on: August 04, 2021, 05:04:37 PM
The action that EU wants to take is actually against Bitcoin's structure. The anonymity is one of the most important features that Bitcoin users have. But on the other hand, there will be many people who will continue to launder money very easily if the governments don't want people to indicate which wallet belongs to whom. There is a big dilemma here.

If they want to track money laundering, then they can add additional KYC filters for the exchanges where cryptocurrency is being converted to fiat currency. Instead of that, they want to flag all the cryptocurrency transactions as suspicious. First of all, they need to understand that it is impossible to find out whether a particular cryptocurrency transaction was done by someone residing in the EU, or outside the jurisdiction. These people are still unable to comprehend the basic technology behind cryptocurrency. They are just thinking that it is similar to fiat currency in all aspects.
