641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GEMZ]|GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays | LIVE on Android and iOS | on: July 28, 2015, 12:47:10 PM
I can't send gemz to other wallet on an exchange site. Is there a problem?

How long ago? Exchanges are often slow, I would give any exchange an hour or two before I even started to get concerned.

Interestingly FB says that the most popular city for likes is now London England....before it was Israel, Tel aviv.

I would be also interested in other statistics, namely:

- Average age
- Gender
- Country

It would be nice if the Getgems team could update us about these things.

For the rest great work. The group payment option is definitely awesome Smiley

You have to be logged in to look at the average age, I think it was as expected around 25-35.
I think we are in classic early building stage, I have zero doubts this app will have at least 500,000-1,000,000 downloads.
643  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What is now the best wallet app for iso? on: July 28, 2015, 02:50:53 AM
I knew the MODS would find a way to move a perfectly relevant Bitcoin thread to a nobody reads section...
644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GEMZ]|GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays | LIVE on Android and iOS | on: July 27, 2015, 04:39:15 PM
Today I'm seeing quite a quickening of likes on FB and Twitter followers. I sense a growing exponential growth, early still but definitely increasing.

Same goes for the rating on google play. Thats the strenght of this project, much easier to suggest to others.

I'll sound a bit sad but I checked how many people liked FB page today, very roughly there were around 25 new likes in roughly around 6 hours. I know I'm making a lot of assumptions but say you assume therefore that means 100 new users every day then it's clear the momentum of downloads has increased....and will as time goes on.

Try it, the password is a string of words easy to write down and even remember. You can't get a more user friendly app. the phone security is connected to your phone so someone can't just put your wallet on their phone without you knowing about it. Plus they would need your PIN number to move any money. No private key involved...

I need one to recommend to people who want BTC and want iso.

You mean iOS right?

Assuming you mean a Bitcoin wallet for bitcoin. I have to be careful cause the MODs are sticklers for altcoin posts in the Bitcoin section. BUT seriously Bitcoiners don't dismiss GETGEMS as a Bitcoin wallet. IF you completely ignore the gems element you still basically have the best BItcojn wallet and app on the market today I believe. You have a wallet, ability to connect with friends on the Telegram network, connect Coinbase, send Bitcoin as a text message! Make group Bitcoin payments and much more including a growing store presence in the form of gift tokens. Plus it is probably the best way to introduce friends into the Bitcoin world. Here is the most recent development update.

648  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mass adoption? Seriously what would price be? on: July 27, 2015, 04:38:03 AM
Well we could all try to guess numbers but we either will never see such a scenario or we are going to be wrong. I'd say anywhere upwards of $1M. However, this will not matter at all. If the dollar collapses good luck trying to survive with money.

If your scenario were to happen then the "price" of bitcoin would not matter, because Bitcoin would be the preferred currency to spend money. Until people stop looking at BTC like some kind of stock, and instead look at it as a better means of transaction the adoption of Bitcoin will be hear sooner than later.

The mentality of "how much U.S. Dollars cant I get for bitcoin in a few years" needs to stop.... Now.
I strongly agree with this. I've said this a number of times, a lot of people are here for the wrong reasons (greed, i.e. cashing out in some other currency).

Struggling to take financial Puritan moral lessons from someone heavily involved in Bitcoin Casinos....

Personally I'm very into the Libertarian principles of Bitcoin and the end of financial slavery that Central Banks has over the world. But IF I truly believe in Bitcoins potential which will mean it will rise in value considerably then I would have to be making an active decision to avoid taking that opportunity....why would anyone do that? Would you?

And if I use the Dollar as a way to describe value it doesn't mean I want to at some point move to actual dollars geez, why is that so hard to understand for people....

Plus no one said they want to use money during a financial collapse, the issue is more as all other fiat wealth has collpased you come out the other end with wealth intact and Bitcoin as a potential global currency. Also opportunities to buy real assets dirt cheap. A doomsday scenario doesnt mean anyway the end of a trading economy so Bitcoin during the collapse would also present opportunities.....maybe save your life even...

No one said anything about US Dollars? But it's an understandable way to describe wealth based on our current system. Duh

If you like we can use horses or cattle or houses to describe the potential value of Bitcoin in the future.....and yes if BTC did become the reserve currency then sorry but for many on this forum it would 'matter' groan...
650  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mass adoption? Seriously what would price be? on: July 27, 2015, 03:47:59 AM
Let's just say Bitcoin did do as well as most people most positive scenarios. Say the dollar collapses and Bitcoin is seen as a haven and say within 5-15 years Bitcoin was the reserve currency, the backbone of the global money supply. I'm sure other fiat currencies would still exist but what would the price likely be in this super positive scenario?
...

I think, to answer your question in present terms, super positive price for 1 BTC would be around 5 Million USD.
This number is only based on USA.
If the world began using BTC as its only means of currency exchange, then 15.5 Million USD per 1 BTC.

IMO

Sounds nuts but it's actually way more accurate that winkleloss bros saying it could get to $50,000. I mean Coinbase CEO is now saying it could become the reserve currency. In the eye of a currency collapse storm which we are heading toward its not that crazy to think people would reach for the one currency that actually worked.

the reason i ask is I'm looking at the marketcap of Bitcoin and a few billion these days is almost nothing in the global a big picture so in theory the biggest gains could be ahead?
652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Advantage of PoW over PoS on: July 26, 2015, 04:37:42 PM
My country has a law on capital export. Since there's no national exchange this basically means I have no chance to get PoS coins. Explain me this fair distribution thing.
Besides my PC consumes 60W idle, 120W loaded (playing) and 130W when mining (and playing Borderlands 2), in this terms, getting into PoW coins is almost for free to me.

Huh? You can't get on any exchange or buy into a POS coin....sounds like BS. Where do you live North Korea?

POW guys who made some from POW coins ironically complain the most about POS when they are the ones who were able to buy into them early from accumulated BTC and LTC. etc.
653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Advantage of PoW over PoS on: July 26, 2015, 02:37:52 PM
The distribution advantage of POW is no better than POS, why should only people with really fast computers and tech types get to make the early major mining which is where many make a lot of money?

POS at least rewards a developer IF the coin has value and also opens the playing field to anyone who wants to risk money without having to have tech skills....no different to any investing basically. Plus POS helped kill off stupid coins, once ICO happened and people couldn't make a quick buck on silly coins they started to die out. This is an advantage that most have not recognised. No one is going to make a POS Bill Murray coin....

Also the POW concept all it really does is something very illogical ie Ok you can lift this weight with you hands or you can lift it with your tongue....just making something artificially difficult is dumb. We have to mine Gold cause that's the only way to get it out of the ground...POW in that sense is like many advances in society or systems by holding onto something of the past even though it's illogical.
654  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Is British - Change the Forum Language Pack on: July 26, 2015, 01:59:05 PM
Clearly some people have the impression British men are like this.

When actually they are more like.

So what have we learned by this thread? possibly that Americans can't recognise British humour or that Americans really do think the world revolves around them. Can I make the point IF we are going to be global then the biggest type of English taught today is actually Bristish English which is the preferred type in China and India. So actually if we did use a global English it would be British English not because of the British but because of MR Lee and MR Gupta.

If China is shut out of this app? then why...

I guess it is more complicated than that...

http://techcrunch.com/2015/07/13/did-china-take-down-messaging-app-telegram/

...perhaps it is better to go after more friendly markets at this early stage?

Ah I thought it was more a google play store block thing rather than a Telegram block. remove the word telegram from the description?..Smiley

Let's face it the Bitcoin foundation would better be called the American Bitcoin foundation with almost all members American and based in Washington.....It's the World Series in baseball all over again. Lol.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoins Price be manipulated like Gold is? on: July 25, 2015, 04:38:30 PM
Gold can be manipulated only because of the deriveratives that are many times more in value than the actual Gold. So a few billion in paper gold can be sold in literally a split second and then they can go make some more fiat to do it again......YOU CANT DO THAT WITH JUST BITCOIN!!!!

Give them some time. Already it's quite possible that major exchanges are operating on a fractional reserve. Therefor we have more bitcoins for sale than actually exist.

The best thing anyone can do to prevent this kind of abuse is to take possession (control) of their coins. There are day traders who need to keep a balance on the exchange in order to do their thing, and the exchanges know this and can take advantage of it.

There are various ways for exchanges to provide proof of reserves, but how many of them do it in real time? Investors should be demanding these features, yet Gox has shown us that people are stupid and willing to lose huge amounts of bitcoins for no reason.

Yeah I agree fractional reserve banking with Bitcoin could definitely play a part in suppression of the Bitcoin price later. But still, say a large entity wanted to dump on the exchanges they would still need Bitcoin to do so.
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoins Price be manipulated like Gold is? on: July 25, 2015, 04:11:36 PM
Bitcoin's market cap is only $4 billion. The top banks and hedge fund firms manages an estimate of $10 trillion. They can manipulate bitcoin like a puppet. There is no doubt what they can do, if they want to do it.

How with a ton of fiat alone could you manipulate Bitcoin apart from inflating the price? If they bought tons of coins pushing the price to the moon people would take big gains and likely pump them straight back in, all it would do is raise the VOL.

They buy loads of bitcoin off exchange, like bidding in auction, buy direct from miners, buy from payment gateways. Exchange prices will not inflate because their trades are not from exchnages. When they accumulate a large batch of bitcoin, they dump them on the exchanges at critical times to cause panic, successfully subpressing exchange prices. Then they buy them back slowly again off exchange.

Many people have explained the possible methods to you, if you still cannot understand it, you need to read more background info on how the market works.

This question is really turning into a bottom dwelling convo about exchanges and people making Bitcoin go to $1000 again. What I'm talking about is central banking and the suppression of Gold that is essential in a funny money fiat world that we live in where currency is printed in the trillions.

oh look at me I'm a dumbass cause I think the FED could come in and pump Trillions into Bitcoin and it wouldn't increase the overall volume, all they would be doing is popping a ballon that they were at the same time blowing up constantly, making it bigger and bigger every time, it wouldn't hold Bitcoin down.....Gold can be manipulated only because of the deriveratives that are many times more in value than the actual Gold. So a few billion in paper gold can be sold in literally a split second and then they can go make some more fiat to do it again......YOU CANT DO THAT WITH JUST BITCOIN!!!!

659  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Is British - Change the Forum Language Pack on: July 25, 2015, 01:52:27 PM
The OP has a valid point. I kind of do think of Bitcoin being focused on either America or China. Like the OP points out a British paper was used by Satoshi so we can possibly think Bitcoin was invented by a Brit....which I never ever hear, it's either that Nick Sazabo or some other American guy who people speculate who Satoshi is, and of course that poor Japanese guy. So some bias should be recognised in our assumptions at least.

Also I know quite a few Americans are on this forum but IF we are saying Bitcoin is for the world then please maybe don't assume everyone is from the U.S. The amount of times people have answered me assuming I was American and so have to worry about the FBI, the IRS, the CIA and what congress decides about Bitcoin etc...

I never get anyone say hey we need to worry about MI5 or how the UK National Tax service will process Bitcoin. The OP point was meant to be humorous but I think he has a serious point which is valid. i live in Asia, I'm a Brit and I am always having to explain British English to Americans while I know every damn colloquial of the U.S. We did invent the language after all...might be time to think a bit more globally.
660  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Is British - Change the Forum Language Pack on: July 25, 2015, 01:42:04 PM
We had to take it over because you Brits would just have a cup of tea and talk about crypto for two or three hundred years before doing anything. I always suspected Dr. Who invented Bitcoin. If you look closely at a printed copy of the first page of the database you see an ASCII image of the Tardis.
