1421  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin is dropping and why you should be buying. on: January 04, 2015, 07:05:27 PM
The question is: what are the impacts of a crash of the global finance system on the Bitcoin? Do you think that people would escape their savings in the Bitcoin ("the digital gold")?

I've heard this question so many times and so many times I hear people say if the financial system goes down the so does Bitcoin. But the point is fiat actually evaporates in value, that's hyper inflation. Gold like bitcoin isn't just about during a financial collapse and honestly we dont know how it will react during a financial implosion. People often want to buy food etc more than Gold or currency during extreme past situations. But what Gold does is which I believe Bitcoin will do is get people to the other side of the river. They will have something other than their dicks to hold when the dust clears is what I'm saying. Price in terms of the dollar like Gold has very little interest me actually, how can it if I believe the dollar is worthless?

So yeah Bitcoin I believe will protect you just like Gold, during the collapse it might be worthless but after one it will still be in your wallet with a renewed interest from people who thought the dollar was a store of value. Personally I do think Bitcoin will thrive during a collapse but like I said that's not really the issue.
1422  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin is dropping and why you should be buying. on: January 04, 2015, 06:56:46 PM
very low in terms of usd would be what?

What's your thoughts on this??

Well I don't see the drop in price to be that significant looking at the big picture either, Bitcoin to me resembles a Gold chart more than anything. My point is if you are going to measure bitcoin in dollar terms expect a drop or at least a levelling off. The bigger picture is indeed a rise. But the opportunity is that Bitcoin however much the Dollar implodes upwards will get a short to medium term drop. I expect sub 200 probably sub 100 at least before the reversal, though I don't discount a sub 50. This isn't your typical chart move, I'm talking Armageddon scale move. Smiley
1423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto is from Europe on: January 04, 2015, 06:43:10 PM
Anyone who has followed the behaviour of the Qora developer has to sometimes wonder if he is Satoshi or BCNext. He is such an enigma to even Qora supporters due to his low key behaviour. The code suggests a very experienced coder as well now it is open source. I know Qora gets no love but ai think that due to the dveloper who doesnt seem to play the game that other coins do, he just seems to like the technology. Like Satoshi he hasn't even touched the Bitcoin from the IPO, he seems completely unconcerned about it, almost autistic which is the vibe I always got from Satoshi.

I'm digressing, my main point is he once said he was from Europe, possibly Netherlands if my memory doesnt fail me. And if anyone knows the Dutch they know they speak pitch perfect English.
1424  Economy / Speculation / Why Bitcoin is dropping and why you should be buying. on: January 04, 2015, 06:22:02 PM
All I'm hearing from the forum is the imminent death of bitcoin due to the relatively small drop in price in dollar terms of Bitcoin. I see this as an early sign that a financial collapse is approaching and therefore the perfect time for wise investors to buy. I don't know if people are familiar with the work of Jim Willie of the Golden Jackass but I recommend him, he's fringy and controversial but he has always said that the sign the system is collapsing and the dollar is on its death bed will be a massive rise in the dollar not a drop.

This also is a sign of a deriveratives implosion too. I think we will go lower, very low in fact (in dollar terms) and then we will get a spike up that will shock even seasoned bitcoiners. The absolutely only reason I'm not buying Bitcoin is I have no available fiat. If you are holding dollars then anytime from now is a good time to buy if you hold a longer tem perspective.

1425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS |PRE-SALE LIVE NOW on: January 03, 2015, 12:51:17 PM
  • Logged out of the GEMS Messenger v2.1.5 (408) - When I open the app again and select "Already have an account" I have to go through the exact same process as creating a new account, Enter Username, Enter Passphrase, Enter PinCode, Enter phonenumber. I thought I read somewhere this was simplified or is this something that will be simplified in upcoming releases?
  • Notifications. I was able to send some test btc to my GF, she received the btc almost instantly in her wallet (perfect). there was however no message or indication where the btc came from? When she tried to send back the exact same amount this failed, presumably because she didn't have enough to send that amount + fees. There is however no notification of the sending failing or why it fails. It asks for the pin and warns about the fact that she's about to send btc. But it doesn't. Maybe notifications are in place here.
Logged out? I'm not sure that even possible. :0.  you only need to use the password when you set the account up on your phone.

Main menu, Settings, Top right corner dropdown, Log Out

Ah ok. I'm not sure I personally would ever log out really, the wallet is protected by the pin and if you really don't want someone to see a chat you can destroy it. But other people have different needs. It would be nice if the wallet pin also locked the app maybe if you wanted that function as an optional..

I succeeded in changing the Gems app to the GetGems app, but I must say that it is far from user-friendly, but ok I know that this was not planned and should be no problem for new users.
One thing that I noticed is that I have to choose the country code (+031 by default in my case) from the list, instead of leaving it to default. Otherwise I get a message stating that I entered an unknown country code.

That's more to do with how your phone is set up than Gems app. It had my country set up due to it using my location.
1428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Qora | 100% POS | Assets | Names | Voting | Open Source on: January 03, 2015, 11:13:25 AM
There will be a minor pop on AT completion and maybe a new skin for the wallet but I fear they are already known about and won't do much. BUT I have a hunch and this is pure speculation but this coin could in theory be massive, want to know what?

I know nothing but my understanding is the GEMS messenger project has the vision to add other coins later to the app. Well Daniel Peled who was an active member of Qora and has even said he would like to do something with Qora at some point would be quite positive about Qora being added to the app. Like I said pure conjecture on my part but IF the app blows up and they do look for coins to add then I like Qoras chances above even coins like NXT etc. It's a lot of if and buts, but it could blow Qora upward. So I would hold at least some coins long term, even a million or so would be worth a small fortune IF the senario I mentioned actually happened.

How likely is it that Qora would be included in the Gems app? Amazing if true but I wouldn't belive it unless Daniel Peled confirms it.

What will the end product of the GEMS messenger project be?

I could be wrong, but I got the impression that the end goal was something like a full social networking platform.  Aspirations of being the next Facebook, perhaps.  But it's a tall order, as even google couldn't pull that one off.  Either way, this is the first connection I've heard of between it and Qora.

Well it's more a messenging app like Whatsapp. And like I said its pure conjecture on my part. But still the point is if the planets align and the app gets big and they do look for additional coins to add then Qora probably has a good chance due to Daniels involvement in Qora then it really could go to the moon. I feel like I'm making assumptions and stepping over the line but really I was just bringing up the idea for discussion if anything. but here one time he mentions what I'm talking about. It's worth keeping an eye on for sure.

I never thought I would say this but people really need to read the OP, most questions can be answered by reading it. Plus there is a Q&A document which has a lot of information. Plus there are various YouTube videos and articles to read but the OP and Q&A should get a quick read before anyone thinks to ask anything.

Can we have a normal desktop wallet too to keep the coins secure? I don't feel good to keep all my coins on some wallet online or on my phone

I hate to be the one to break it to you but the security on your phone and on a desktop is exactly the same in the sense that the coins are stored in the same place, you are simply accessing them differently.  Yes being a phone and accessing public wireless etc can also have risks but so does having a desktop. I guess it's like accessing your email on your phone it's ultimately the same as on a desktop. Anyway, there is a desktop wallet, ie Counterparty which can be accessed the same way as your phone wallet.

Installed the new version, I now have Gems app and Getgems app on my phone.

Q: Can I load my wallet with bitcoins ? and how ?  Do I use the secret in the counterwallet ?

Probably they had to change the name to getgems due to another app using gems.

About adding Bitcoin to your wallet. Basically your Bitcoin wallet is the same as your Gems wallet as far as I know which is pretty awesome. To find your address tap on screen in wallet and then paste the address somewhere like on a notepad in your phone. So to be clear we do have a bitcoin type address but you got to copy and paste it from the wallet screen. Again a very neat way to do things.
1432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS |PRE-SALE LIVE NOW| on: January 01, 2015, 10:53:01 PM
I messed up my registration because at point of receiving a Telegram  ID code to input it did it automatically which threw me a bit and maybe needs something in the app to say this will be done automatically and to wait. It presently says it will call you which is confusing and makes people go out of the app to recieve a 'call'.

So because I bypassed the code page I thought I messed up and didn't even save the secret password. Doh!

So I deleted and re downloaded the app and re registered with a new name. I guess what I'm worried about now is am I screwed for receiving airdrops cause it might look like I gamed the system and downloaded the app and registered twice?

you registered twice but both are on the same phone number.
its not a referral to add an existing phone number with a different name because we see it as the same user.

Ok so I guess I'm good then.

two issues Ive seemed to have. On the welcome screen the last letter doesn't fit, I assume everyone else has seen this.

when I type Bitcoin with a capital B it doesn't recognise it in the wallet. Plus it doesnt like .01 bitcoin   you got to add the 0 so 0.01 bitcoin.
1435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS |PRE-SALE LIVE NOW| on: January 01, 2015, 10:58:43 AM
When I registered it didnt give me an opportunity to put the actual messenger code into the app? It by then starting asking me for who referred me?

Does this mean my wallet is not in operation?

Yesi have been mining since sept and I just crossed 200 prolly would have more but I am on an I phone 1/2. Tine ( work)

yes but lets be clear if you twiddled it around in your hand and hit the max limit everyday you could have more like 250-300 a month so thats nearly 1000 potentially. So what I assume when you said mining is you left the app running in your pocket. ;P Its not hard to mine a bunch cause the app can be put on any old android device, most people have at least access to a few android devices including old phones, tablet,  friends and family etc. All accords how much you want them. Wink

Yep, that's all true Cheesy
Except for the tablet part, but you can run the app on any Android phone that has Android version 2.1 or above.

Srele from MangoCoinz

LOL  600 twistahrz or would that be spinahrz?

JK Bro

I smell a stupid ways to mine Mangoz contest... Paint shop fun?

At last small children and pets are going to pay off!

When the coin launched there was no sync limit.. So if you taped your phone to a washingmachine it will mine like hell.

But... Still not on the exchange, this is not good Sad
People will stop mining etc.

actually not, there was a limit of around 10 almost from the start or at least it was when there was almost none mined. The reason people have quite a lot is because a few guys were running everyday with a bag full of their families devices (Thats what the guy told me) and also he was selling them. I have about 800 coins, most of them bought.

The distribution considering the app has been live for months now is pretty incredible. Less than 1% has been mined so far!

some people have over 10,000. How's that even possible without purchasing those coins? but how can one purchase 10,000 when daily limit is 10 per person. Unless that's Dev holding up his coins. Most people with one cellphone (like myself) are still floating around 60. Even if you use 5 cellphones that's still <500.

You would need like 100+ cellphones to mine 10,000 coins within 10 days of launch. Distribution seems beyond unfair  Embarrassed

Hey unusualfacts30,

So, MangoCoinz was not launched 10 days ago, it was launched on June this year.
The first tradings of MangoCoinz took place at the end of August and September on the OTC (Over the Counter) trading thread here on bitcointalk.org.

Best regards, Srele from MangoCoinz.

I got to repeat again that after 6 months less than 1% has been mined! Thats the kind of distribution the average POS coin can only dream about. Honestly a few months ago when no one was noticing this app people couldn't give them away. I have 800 and if I remember they cost me less than 1BTC. I did my best to push the app actually and created a thread or two.

The google play link shows item not found
Upgrade your phone to latest OS you can and it should find it. I think it automatically blocks apps it knows wont work.
I mean the link that refers you to it www.getgems.org/dl, it says the url was not found on this server. I think the link is down

No idea why the link is down. Anyway, you can get it here :
mega.co.nz - org.getgems.messenger-1.apk
or
filedropper.com - org.getgems.messenger-1.apk

I trust the poster but can I trust these links 100%?
