662  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you make a Player vs Player Game Fair? on: August 23, 2018, 09:52:50 PM
Maybe you could mess around with the timings a little. I'm not an expert, so there could be an easier way, but maybe you could generate the seeds in much shorter intervals that would make it impossible for you to change them between the time when it is generated and the time when it is revealed?

From what I got from your suggestion was to introduce a sort of Timestamp on the server seed, correct me if I am wrong tho. But that won't serve any purpose IMO, The house could cheat by sending the unhashed server seed to another table and generate the favourable client seeds to win over the players. Basically you don't want "anything" to be set by the house, Instead, it should be based on something which house doesn't have control over, Only then I believe a game like this could be fair. Some sort of future "object" deciding the Server seed for that round.

Possible Solution:
From what I have thought is to use the "hash" of the new "Block" formed as the server seed. In my case, Once all the spots are filled in the round. The code will wait for the new "Block" to be formed and use its hash to set the "server seed" And decide a winner from there. This way the house has no control over the "Server seed" and can't possibly think of a client seed which would favour them.
663  Economy / Gambling discussion / How do you make a Player vs Player Game Fair? on: August 23, 2018, 06:13:18 PM
I am currently working on a project but I am stuck on making its gameplay fair. Here is the issue I am facing. It is a Round based game. A server seed is set for each round and 10 people participate in that. The server seed is the same for everyone but the issue is I can participate myself in the round and as I will have access to the "Unhashed" server seed I can set my client seed in such a way to win over everyone else. So it isn't fair to just use a server + client seed Provable fair system for a game like this. I am wondering what could be done to prevent "tampering/cheating" even if the "house" decides to participate in the round.
664  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-23] Banks Consume Over Three Times More Energy than Bitcoin, Research on: August 23, 2018, 04:30:52 PM
Quote
If Bitcoin technology were to mature by more than 100 times its current market size, it would still equal only 2 percent of all energy consumption.

Exactly, These Fudsters need something better than "Bitcoin is causing the climate change!" It's not you dumbfucks! At least get your numbers right. More energy is being wasted around than what Bitcoin's network uses for the whole year.

On Average an American wastes around 283 KW of energy each month.

Multiply that by 12 months, that's 3396 KW of energy wasted for a year!

Let's take the least favourable figures and say only 50 million Americans waste this much energy all year round. That's around 169800000000 KW of energy wasted which translates into 169.8 TW of energy wasted each year! While Bitcoin's Network hardly uses 75 TW of energy for the whole year.

Anybody complaining about Bitcoin using too much Electricity or is causing the climate change needs to check up with a doc, Cuz Numbers don't lie hun!

By the way, what actually is your purpose for farming all those? Claim bounties? Sig spam? Sell them? Why can't you just make those posts from one account? Would be a lot less hassle and good luck trying to get merit for all those. you might actually achieve it eventually with just the one though.

Their posting quality is above average, I have to give it to them. I think these are the new "Call Centers" where these people can earn "Legit money" from. I believe these people have realized that sooner or later spammers will get kicked and it will become only harder to rank up later, So they have started to build up their accounts. Smart move IMO. Account prices should rise drastically once the mass banning kicks off. They could sell these accounts, use these ranked accounts to earn from bounties/campaigns as you mentioned. I don't think they will make rookie mistakes like using same Address for receiving their Rewards. They look more organized than a "normal" Farmer. I believe this is just the beginning and we will see more groups popping up soon, Once the word gets out. "Damned" we are indeed.

Within the next two decades scientists will develop cures for most ailments.   At first, immortality will be for the ultra-rich, but as prices go down (as long as the population stays in check), it will become available to the masses.

Agreed! Live 4 more decades and you will probably live more than 100 years for sure!

The question is, would you want to live in a world where 90% of your taxes go to old age pension?

Depends on what kinds of benefits will I be getting when I will be in their shoes. What goes around comes around Wink

Just Read! Read! and Read! that's the best advice I can give ya. You just can't read enough, Trust me! Even I spend most of my time reading posts from members who are more knowledgeable than me. Reading will help you and the community a lot. Good luck Smiley

Cleavage is all you need. Men are simple creatures.
Cleavage doesn't mean much if it's the bottom half that's naked. Wink

I think I can solve this very hard puzzle. Bottom half is naked but only the top half is in the picture.

Lmfao!!! if posts like these popping up, I will go Merit-rupt soon!!!

My suggestion would be to add something that would catch the eye of the reader (some flashy text, red text, increased font size etc.) to avoid having this list ignored in the same way people normally look over the TOS of any software application.

Wait! is bitcointalk NSFW?

Quote
The offer of 50 merit for the dubstep track with the hook still stands and 10 for the boobs (make sure she's not actually naked or topless though and don't put it in image tags. Also mark it as NSFW).

I could have hired someone to do this but I don't trust you anymore, I still haven't received my 7 sMerits.  Roll Eyes

None of these ideas are new to me. Even if I don't respond to suggestions, I do read them, and they float around in my mind going forward.

Quote
A big possible reason is that I'm the only person who does development on the current code, and my time is limited.

Since none of these ideas are new to you, Theymos I think it's about time you start hiring devs who can work on features you deem worthy. Don't give them access to the live version of bitcointalk but instead ask them to build these features on a local version and before implementing them on the live version. You can validate/verify the code yourself. Should decrease the burden on you. If paying these devs will be an issue, many ideas have already been suggested here to generate an income for the forum.

Quote
Another big reason is that this is a huge forum with complex dynamics, and even small policy changes can have big effects which need to be thought through very carefully.

Agreed! but the current policies are destroying it! Unless you see bot-accounts/farmers/Spammers as growth.

Charging ICOs a fee to make their ANN here. You could even get rid of the ANN board completely and give them their own sub once they've paid the fee. If there's no Ann board then there will probably be no paid bumping because it will be useless, but let them spam away in their own slum and squalor.

This should be implemented right away. Many "Money Making" Forums charge upwards of $500 per week for different HYIP programs to get listed. Imagine what these ICOs will be willing to pay who "actually" have a "Vision" behind them... Roll Eyes

I believe this doesn't even require any coding of sorts just needs your approval.

Not critical but it would be nice if the Report to moderator page, came up in a separate tab. The same way the Merit page does.
Use your middle mouse button to open a tab in the background. I wish Merit would work the same as "Report", with Report I can choose to open it in the same tab if I want to.

Easy there mate! Did you just assume that everyone uses a mouse which has a middle button? Not everyone can afford a mouse like that.
675  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I Start Mining This Week, Any Advice Is Appreciated on: August 20, 2018, 12:50:04 PM
I start mining this week for my first time. Not a big glamorous setup or anything. I have a gaming PC arriving this Tuesday that will have. GTX 1050 pre installed. I know it's not the best but it's a start.

TBH It's not even a start! You wouldn't even make 5 cents after mining for 24 hours straight.

Quote
My question is can I buy an additional GPU and run both in the PC? I was thinking of buying a 1060 or 1070.

Depends on the number of PCIe/PCI Express slots your mobo has.

Quote
1080 would be great but I just don't have the cash yet.

If you are planning to save up for that through mining. It will never happen.

Quote
This is my first real attempt at mining so I'm willing to learn.

Yeah, the setup is only good enough for trying out different software and getting the feel of what's its like to mine.

Quote
Any and all advice and constructive criticism is welcome.

Here is my "honest advice". Don't bother with mining unless you can buy up at least 8 or 6 high-end GPUs and have a electricity cost less than 0.10 KW/h as it will be hard for you to break even in the coming months if this downtrend continues. Also, there is no guarantee that you will break even with those high-end GPUs. So do your research and see if mining is actually for you or not.

Not a good argument. Bitcoin's astronomical growth comes from the fact that it has grown from nothing to something. PayPal is an already established business and for that reason can't book similar growth rates.

Paypal was founded in 1998, So what stopped it to gain the "astronomical growth" bitcoin has experienced? wasn't Paypal a revolution back then?  Roll Eyes

Quote
Again not a good argument. Bitcoin's net dollar transaction volume is largely coming from its speculative nature, while PayPal's volumes are nearly for 100% economical transactions used to either buy or sell goods or services.

Not bitcoin's fault. One could argue What stopped these "speculators" from investing in this "revolutionary" product?

Theymos is the defacto owner or operator of the board and he chose cyrus to be an admin to replace BadBear (who walked away).

Kinda stretching the topic here a bit but God forbid if something happens to both admins. Is there a backup system in place which will choose/select a new admin or will it be the end of bitcointalk as we know it? I know a scenario like this is very unlikely to rise but has this been discussed upon?

Agreed! The search function should be replaced by Google search IMO. It performs way better than the default one.

I think I have to correct you here.

No, let me correct you here again Tongue This "growth" is nothing compared to "growth" bitcoin has seen. Compare the amount of volume transacted on the bitcoin network to Paypal's you will have your answer of who did the "real growth" here Wink . Do Keep in mind The economies are growing, Paypal's revenue is expected to rise but notice how the "Growth" has slowed down?

"Before starting a new thread, Always use the "Search" feature. On most ocassion you will find plenty of threads on the same subject, But if you find none. You can create a new thread."

I believe a message like this should be mentioned too. Too many members don't use the search feature and create duplicate useless threads.
