701  Other / Off-topic / Counterfeit Casascius Coins? on: June 07, 2013, 05:42:00 AM
I heard a mention of fake Casascius coins somewhere the other day. I figured it was only a matter of time til some factory in China thought up the idea. If they can flood the precious metals market with fake products, I bet they can easily make a fake Casascius coin. I would imagine they buy a number of legitimate coins and then use the firstbits on those to create fake ones. The question is how long do they wait to redeem it? It'd have to be a while if they wanted to create any sort of business. If you plug-in the first bits on a coin you think is brand-new and you see its redeemed, you might realize you got scammed. Another thing though is what happens if someone tries to redeem one they don't know is fake? I imagine they would insert a fake private key in case of this.
Undoubtedly Casascius Coins will be harder to fake (because of the first bits/redeeming function) than a Morgan Dollar or something, but where there is a will, there is a way. There's a lot of money to be made, and mark my words-its just a matter of time until these things start to surface.
702  Economy / Digital goods / Re: **FREE** Microsoft Office 2007 Retail Licenses **FREE** UPDATED!! on: June 07, 2013, 04:19:08 AM
Thanks a million, installation was seamless.  Deeply appreciated.  Was using Open Office all the time.  Now can really use MS Office.

No worries Johnny. We wrote these off on our taxes years ago. I could sell them but it wouldn't be legal without the COA/install disc and the amount of money made would make it a federal felony; not trying to go to jail. So either they go in the trash or I give them away.  Wink

PS. I think I have gotten to everyone so far. If I missed you, just let me know.

Still over 100 left.
I see. Well thank you for not trashing them. I've been using OpenOffice, it'll be nice to install Word and everthing. And you messaged me. Thanks again!

Wow! so much good stuff here I don't know where to begin...so I guess I'll begin in the 24th and a half century:

Kryoniks?  Really? I think those guys really think the world is full of Homer Simpsons Peter Griffins cause basically those are the only people that would fall for that load of crap!  Mine bitcoins AND litecoins at the SAME HASHRATE with the SAME HARDWARE while MAKING NITROGEN?!?!?  How about a holodeck too while you're at it?

(2 minute pause while I laugh my ass off)

01BTC10:
Thanks for the feedback and I think you're right...but what's with the diagram of the refrigeration system?

Everyone else who said the compressor would burn out
Thanks, I thought as much, but having a consensus removes any doubt...

Great link...thanks...That example with the room temp coke bottle illustrates the point beautifully.
So why don't you like linking over there?  Article seems well written and thought out...

Condensation it's not a problem as long as your motherboard works while submerged into oil.

Not even the same thing...Mineral oil is not electrically conductive (as water is) so it doesn't short out circuits...just makes them all greasy Smiley ...case in point, all electrical transformers like the ones hanging on utility poles use Mineral oil for coooling.

This is how you really do it though if you're interested:

I'm assuming that is a sketch of an enclosure?...what are the dimmensions? Can't get a good mental picture from your sketch...

So the bottom line definitely the custom built enclosure would be the way to go.  With adequate airflow as was mentioned.  I already have a crazy design idea in mind for the cabinet...just a matter of building it...

Thanks all for the feedback.

LMFAO you should put a couple fish in there!

705  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 1BTC and 5BTC Casascius Blanks [Real Potential to sell for $100+ fiat] on: June 07, 2013, 03:00:45 AM
Updated Price as I had a kick ass night at the poker table.

1 @ 0.175 BTC & I will pay your shipping costs in BTC (up to 0.025BTC)

I want instructions, a hologram, with hardshell case

Also this is my last offer, and if good for 18 hours after this post.

that is less than I paid to acquire some of these

Again hold on to them buddy (I am not trying to offend you, know that), don't lose money, I am not going to blame you for that, someone else will buy these, I like them but not in the same way you do, like we have discussed before but I got some others things tied up thus the 18 hours, its not that I am being a prick its other things are moving for me.  These are cool for me but that over ~0.2BTC they lose their bling, but so are the aluminums that you were thinking about buying. If you got some of those I will take some.
No offense taken at all. I consider you a friendly acquantence on here (and somebody I don't hesitate to do business with). I just decided to post these on a whim today...primarily because I am getting impatient with PayPal (a truly horrible company, all the shit-talking you hear about them is true). If I get a good offer I'll let a couple go, if not I'll hold onto them. I really want some of those aluminum things, but 500 is more than I need and I don't want to spend that much. I was disappointed when my effort to organize a group-buy sort of thing failed lol. If you need someone, put me down for 100!

708  Economy / Services / Turn Your Redeemed Casascius Coin into $100+ Fiat on: June 07, 2013, 12:57:46 AM
SO,
I used to (and still do, to some extent) try to collect all the Casascius blanks I can. By "blanks" I mean redeemed and cleaned coins, or as is the case with the 5BTC rounds you see pictured, rounds that never even had a hologram on them (bought from Casascius as blank "roll your owns"). Each blank I would carefully polish to get looking good again (this is not the same as cleaning; cleaning a coin is bad, polishing it is something different. I know a few things about coins . Then, I would list them in an auction on eBay as "Loadable Casascius Blanks". I would prep the coins for loading and used a tamper-proof hologram on the back, identical in function to Casascius's. I kid you not, each 5BTC blank I sold at auction sold for over $100. They all sold for over $150, except for one that sold for $120 something. Disclaimer: a couple of those auctions included .05 bitcoins (makes sense to load .05 on a 5BTC coin) that I would load once the customer confirmed they got their coin. THAT was my mistake. I listed these under "currency" and on some attached actual bitcoin value. Now my PayPal account is in ruins. It is "limited" and I have done everything to lift the limitations, but they are "still processing it"-fuck PayPal.
BUT, if you sell these under the "collectable" category as loadable bitcoins (include the hologram, all things necessary-maybe a case), and DO NOT include ANY bitcoin value, I think PayPal will leave you alone. Especially if you only sell one or two.

For 0.012 BTC, you receive (via USPS First Class Mail; International cost is 0.02BTC total)
1) Instructions (very detailed)
2) Tips on how to get the coins looking good w/household items
3) 2 Tamper-Proof holograms (in-case you make a mistake!)
4) an archival-quality coin flip

Thanks x 1 million to OP, so please don't consider me a jerk for this, but if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Has anyone installed and entered key? Everything working ok?

BUT, if you sell these under the "collectable" category as loadable bitcoins (include the hologram, all things necessary-maybe a case), and DO NOT include ANY bitcoin value, I think PayPal will leave you alone. Especially if you only sell one or two. Like I said, I sold the 5BTC blanks in auction, not the 1BTC's. I have one up for auction w/a different payment method accepted other than PayPal (which ebayers know and are comfortable with)...people are staying away. I'll probably end up having to cancel the auction.
So, since you have the ability to make money that I no longer do, I suggest you buy a blank and take advantage of it!
I'm not going to list a price. I'm also not planning on selling ALL of these. When making an offer, keep in mind 1)the 5 BTC blanks were never used-they came fresh from Casascius, 2)all of these are 2012 blanks, 3) I will include for free (if you want) instructions, a hologram, a coin sleeve (or hardshell case if I like your offer) so you can sell these on eBay like I described. Please do not waste your time or mine lowballing. There is obviously real value here.

To respond to an earlier post, you were being trolled. The bottom line I think is-if you can afford a Lamborghini, you can afford to fix any problems it may have. Since these are not mass-produced, and are such high-performance machines, there often are problems that arise w/them. They're not necessarily huge problems though, and if you take special care (I'm sure you will-its a Lamborghini!) of it, your chances of encountering any "problems" with it are much smaller. Good luck, I am very jealous.

(WTB) Lamborghini, used.

$90,000 to $150,000

USA or Thailand.

not Orange! Just about any other colour is fine.

I would like to pay in BTC but will think about cash.

Also open minded of other cars like this but prefer a Lambo.

Thank you.
