You, and every single Asic owner gave money and power to bitmain
Now all you guys have to face the consequences

Exactly. If you want for this not to happen again , don't buy their products and start supporting decentralisation by mining coins which are ASIC resistant like Monero V7. The developers of Monero immediately took action by forking to V7 when they saw all those Cryptonight ASIC miners around.

ppl never learn tho , bitmain is lauging at yall loo

Moderately hopeful rendertoken or other forms of gpu marketplace gains traction this year.
Where are rendertoken currently at? Beta-testing still? Not currently giving out live rendering jobs yet are they?

...

EDIT: not considering ASICs at all. Not out of snobism, but because they really make no sense currently unless you're in need of a big door-stopper.

Their roadmap: https://rendertoken.com/#roadmap
With any luck we will be rendering by end of the year.

I'm not a huge fan of ASICs too, but I will still grab some ASICs in promising algorithms to diversify, mainly those with good revenue to electricity cost ratio.

I'm keeping an eye on them too. I really hope that blockchain rendering takes off since I think it's an excellent use of "traditional" GPUs and may prove to be a safeguard against Asics (I think).

probably have to rebuild most miner rigs to render. with a lot of rigs having 1 pcie lane per card, 4 gigs ram, undernourished cpus and little storage (120 gig ssd or 32 gig flash drives..  well i cant see how its going to be able to get all the textures and such to the cards in enough time to be useful.

maybe rigs with 4 cards at pcie x4 or 3 cards at pcie x8 along with a good quad+ core cpu with much more ram, 16+ gigs maybe. and storage for jobs so 512 gigs or more. <-- all specs guesswork on my part

wonder how much bandwidth it needs?

Here's an extremely detailed 3hr long discussion on setting up an octane render rig. At 1hr 37 mins they talked about pcie lanes: https://youtu.be/XrOBvz454fU?t=1h37m40s

TLDR: A 8x pcie 3.0 connection per gpu is highly recommended

Long version: Pcie 1x lane works too, and the rendering speed is unrelated to lane bandwidth. However during data transfer the rig will be idle, which happens when you are receiving new job or swapping out the textures in gpu vram. The penalty will be especially heavy for out of core rendering (Scene is 64gb, gpu only has 11gb, there will be loads of transfer from system ram to vram).

When beta testnet launch, we will get a clearer picture on the ideal rig setup. Risers MIGHT still be the best price performance because a Threadripper mobo + 1900x will run $700+ USD and only fits 4 gpu. A gigabyte B250 fintech with 12 gpu and 64gb ram might be better bang for buck.

On a side note the Gigabyte b250 fintech is the only mining mobo with 4x ram slots, and 64gb imo is a must for rendertoken.

I hope someone comes up with a Onda B250 form factor threadripper board, with 7x pcie 8x slots and 2x m2 pcie slots. To run 7x 1180/2080 + 2x acorn fpga accelerator.

so I have a ryzen 1800x  on a board that can do three cards and I have 64gb ram and I have a 2tb ssd

so I guess it would work well to render.

I have this board  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157757

I have this cpu  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=19-113-499

I have this ssd  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8TK78R3886

I have this ram https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820156086

I have 3 of these gpu's  https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487346

So this should be good to render.

it is fully paid off.  So roi is not an issue.
yeah a custom board with 4 ram slots and 4 gpu slots
would be good , i hate risers

somewhere it was said that we would have to claim (after mainnet launch) until the 20th of june.
tomorrow is the 20th.
now does that mean we cannot claim anymore after the mainnet launches some day?
can we still claim after the mainnet launches (some day) and how long will be the next claiming period if so?
is there already a new claiming deadline?

You will be able to claim in a few days. When claiming starts you will hav ONE week to claim

cheers!
Don't you think that ONE week is too small period as far as it has no definite start date?
Just say now - from 1 July till 7 July, or whatever other clear date BEFOREHAND.

+1. i think such a small window will = some zoin holders that will miss the boat, and why?   Huh  why not give everyone a month or two to claim, or better yet, forever?
Yeah deadline was like june 20 , now like Jul 7 wtf ? Just make it open ended if you had zoin in the snapshot u should be able to claim nix forever

731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer Z9 Mini should i buy it? Help to beginner please. on: June 17, 2018, 10:16:29 PM
buy only batch 1 of any bitmain product is moral of the story. d3 is negative, a3 is negative, l3 is also negative now.
The only thing that makes more than $1 a day is the x3, which is an extreme high risk coin, because coins using cryptonight are actively forking away from it.

i personally have a z3 mini on order (1st batch), but wont be buying an august batch even though i can get it for $600+shipping after coupon.

yeah u should Roi on batch one like I did in the A3 only because I sold all the sia I mined , other people i know are bagholding 80k sia from batch 1 door stops and the price collapsed from .03 to .01

If u do buy one sell what u mine asap till u have what u paid in btc or fiat back

then feel free to bag hold
732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer Z9 Mini should i buy it? Help to beginner please. on: June 17, 2018, 07:45:49 PM
Hello guys. Tomorrow i will buy Giant X10 but i can afford Z9 Mini too with x10.

Z9 mini has good profit for now but what about future? Should i buy it?

What is hard fork thing btw about bitcoin gold.

İ really need your thoughts thank you.

fuck no, unless u got in on the early batches , in 3 months it will make $5 a day
shitmain is greedy selling 10k units a month canibalizing profits

My vega Fes start out high at 2100 with -I 12 on CN heavy

but after a few mins they are down to 1900-1800

my ref 56 flashed to 64 all do 1230 max

they start at 1500 too with -I 10

THings are even lower with default intensities

Any ideas ?

I have power play settings etc, large pages and all set up

Are you using --ratewatchdog option? If yes, delete it from .bat file.

my fans are set to 3000 min , is that too low ?

what should i set the min fan speed for the FEs ?  the temps on cast say 60-70 degrees but I imagine that is just core.

No I don't have --ratewatchdog set

There are multiple possible reasons for hash drop so it's just something to try but once I set my Vega 56 fans to run at 4900 at all times, I stopped getting hash drops. Lowering voltages also helps reduce heat but of course you can't go too far down or else it'll crash the system
the fans on the fes run high, at like 4800 so thats not the. issue, i
can raise the fans on the 56s , this weeken ill try a new lower voltage powerplau for the cards
for some reason i cant change any settings on the powercolor red devil 56 cards and the vega fes
in overdriven tool, but i can change the settings with a powerplay reg mod using the spread sheet

@phil

Who does the panel cleaning maintenance ? its an often overlooked part of having solar.

the array that buysolar  owns and I mine on with him is mostly on the ground 400 of the 500 panels are ground based.

and  the array is grid tied.  So the grid transformer  takes in x and the array does 1.5x so a grimy panel does not  mean much.

We can also wipe  down  400 of the 500 with ease.

Now this project uses 7 or 8 panels  with a ground mount  so if you have the  gear in a spot  that gets grimy  it is easy to wipe down  to clean.

The idea behind this it to make a 1000-1500watt power source for a miner off grid  that will run  5 full hours a day.

POP (pay one price)  up front  for decades of power.

right now companies are giving away gear  or close to it.  s9i's  are under 700  with shipping  and $100 dollar coupon.

I have 12 L3+  and 2 s9I coming
We want to set up an L3+ test doghouse  and a s9i test doghouse  and see how it goes.

We are in a power price is king stage of the game.
If you had cheap power  you would not give a shit  that a piece of gear does not earn a lot.
Power is cheap enough that it profits.

In december 2017  we were in a gear is hard to get part of the game  power cost did not mean much of anything.

and l3+  was   5%  on power cost and 95% in your pocket   if you had 8 cent power

it now earns 2.20 a day  and costs 1.34 to run at 8 cent  that is 60% for power and 40% in your pocket

but if you have 8 cent power  it makes 86 cents a day

if you have 4 cent power it makes 2.20 - .67 = 1.53 a day

but all the 20 cent miners  power is 3.36  so it loses a buck a day
all the 15 cent miners power is 2.52  so it loses  32 cents a day

all the 13 cent miners power is 2.18 so it turns a 2 cent profit.

100% on point, I'm currently at 8 cents too. I asked about the cleaning because where I live (desert), module soiling takes off close to 10% off the output.

I'm considering financing a grid tied 100KW solar farm as the local electricity company has a program to buy the excess power. The problem is that they pay you for the extra power in kilowatt credits, not cash.

You might wanna check if your local electricity utility has a buy program.

Well you also have to factor in the cost of the solar setup.  It's "free power" after you get the panels, connectors, and mounts.  Ground mounted panels are pretty easy to clean, especially after it rains and while they are still wet.  The good news is that solar has a long useful lifespan.

Worldwide, a number of utilities decided to screw over early solar adopters.  At first the tariff rates to sell back to the utility were way too damn high (Spain), and the eventual response was equally vicious (Spanish solar tax).  I bet there are a good number of people where if they originally installed some excess amount of solar beyond what they typically use, they would be better off running a miner or two than reselling that power (or stockpiling discounted credits) with the local Power Company.  And please Mr. Elon Musk (or someone else) how about some breakthroughs with battery storage?  Stop doing the Ambien two-step and focus!

If anyone is just getting interested in solar, I found "missouri wind and solar" videos on YouTube pretty helpful and interesting some years back.  Very low key, no crazy thumping music or flashing graphics that induce seizures.
so its better to buy the panels in bulk and have somone install it say on. a roof than to go through a solar company?

I think thats an indication that intensity is too high, try stepping down 1 each time and see if you get a setting that gives you nearly what you are seeing max, but doesnt fall off with time.
With my Vega56s I get best hash with I 8. 9 or 10 looks better to start with but falls away, 8 doesn't.

Baz

hhm ill give that a shot thanks
