...

Science is not a belief system.  Rupert needs to go back to school.

yeah actually it is.

basically any system

 atheist
religious
scientific

Are  all belief systems.

Science does require repeatable independent experiments 🧫.

But still involves belief that repeatable independent experiments are not a simple trick done by a god or gods.

...

With that kind of thinking we would still be living in caves, wet, hungry and waiting for Gods of light, fire, and rain to do stuff for us.

Repeatable independent experiments are just that, a reliable way to validate results.

If you think they are just a trick "done by god or gods", you need to buy a clue.

The scientific method is the best epistemic tool we have.  It is not a belief system.

When people say that they "believe in science" what they are really mean that they trust results produced by science.
Others, who have no idea what science is, immediately claim that it is a belief system because some people say that
they "believe in science".

By this reasoning, you can call 2+2=4 (in base of 10) equation a "belief system".

Assuming that your idea of God is partially comprehensible, how can you be sure of anything in absolution? Let us not confine ourselves to those known unknowns, but expand our horizons to search for the unknown unknowns.

I do wonder, however, why the bible is a beacon or anchor of absolute information.
Considering the fact that there doesn't seem to be any divine intervention against the possibility of alterations thereof, it seems odd to place such a degree of power upon such a piece of literature.

Let us observe this case:

Let the original bible in its purest form be decreed B.
Early civilizations happen upon B and transcribe the contents onto a copy: B0.
Apart from having been man-made, B0 is indistinguishable from B.
Through circumstance, the original text B is lost and irrecoverable.
Future transcriptions are fitted to a variety of languages, of which differ in semantics and syntax.
Due to these differences, increased variation in interpretation between B0 and its successors is inevitable.
Unfortunately, through passage of time, B0 and successors continually decay and are eventually unreadable.
Despite best efforts, human error occurs, reducing accuracy between transcriptions by up to 1% for each iteration.
As Bi approaches infinity (where i := iteration #) we note that the probability of having Bi representative of the original text B approaches 0 in response.
One final remark: if we cannot pragmatically distinguish the empirical relevance of an object X's existence as opposed to its non-existence, then whether it exists or whether it does not exist is of no relevance to our lives.

That is, if you can't consistently measure any result derived from a belief in a proposition P, then its truth value is of no pragmatic significance.
Example: toilet demons exist and will eat your flesh, but only in the year 3000.

Add to it, Bijkl variations and you get the whole picture.

j - for the time-domain (the dogma 'transformations' over time due to societal/political pressures)
k - for legislated interpretations (major 'releases', B based religions/churches/denominations) at any particular point in time (j)
l - for personal interpretations or omissions (for any given i, j, and k)

The 'B' (B458.756.89890) BADecker 'believes' is different from the one anyone in his church, this forum, his city or country believes in.

If the proof of existence is rooted in the object's definition itself, then the object has no foundation except for itself.
If we accept such a tautological concept, then there should be no reason to further disbelieve anything.
If we simply redefine any object X as "X, and also it exists," then we have created the required evidence.

Unfortunately, a system based on such logic would be subject to inconsistencies. Infinitely many inconsistencies, in fact.
For example, consider objects A and B. We have already applied the existence clause to both of these objects, thereby proving their existence.
Now, we consider objects A0 and B0.
A0 := "A, but only if B0 does not exist"
B0 := "B, but only if A0 does not exist"

Which takes precedence? It seems unclear.

And that exactly what the BADecker/CoinCube types assert.

Object X exists because someone long time ago said so.

Today, many of these tap-dancing philosophers cannot even define what X is.

The best they can come up is a "feeling", aka a smart ape emotion.

Open discussion. Not about what can/should governments do, or who the bad guys are. Assume it's as bad as the Great Influenza of 1918, but we know more now, and we're going to do better this time.

A small percentage will die, many - some that you know and some that you don't know - will be quarantined.

What can you do to help?

1. Stop touching your face
2. Wash your hands with soap frequently
3. Avoid contact with people
4. Take copious amounts of Vitamin C
5. Improve your immune system by eating well, exercise 3+ times a week, sleep 8-10 hours every day
6. If you (or anyone in your family) get(s) sick, self-quarantine yourself and your family
7. Reduce stress, meditate, etc.

Unfortunately, everything changes over time, once religion was the basis of many people's lives, and now with the progress of technology people's attitude changes.

If we are talking about religion - then any religion only partially leads to the same God. After all, God is one. Moreover, God is not the opposite of science and technology. God can be called the Universe, Energy, Love, or otherwise, these are all different sides of the same. God cannot be understood by the mind (it is not something physical or material). This is what lies beyond the understanding of man in this world. However, we can strive for God through Love or through kindness, etc.
After our death, freed from the physical body (and from our other bodies, such as the astral, mental, etc.), we are reunited with God and only then we can understand what it is. In this world it is impossible to understand, only partially.
When we live our life in harmony with ourselves and with the people around us, with the whole world, when we love, when we control our mind and use it only for the good, when we live in heart and soul - then we are in continuous conversation with God (or at least strive for Him).

Hmm, looks like you are ignorant and you convinced yourself that you are not.

If you think that anything unknown is God, you are religious, LOL.  Aka, a dishonest imbecile.

If you have conversations with God, you have lost your mind.

It's sad that now you've convinced yourself that you've convinced me to change my mind on atheism. I've never changed my mind. I see how you can get to believe basically anything as you're unable to follow logic arguments and spot errors in your logic.

Cool

Actually, I'm kinda happy that you are so self-contradictory.

Cool

Are you sure?

You religious imbeciles think that God was the cause of the BB.

And ignore the fact that before the BB there was no time for any cause to exist in, including your 'God'.

If you were born in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia you would be a Muslim and would hate Jews (Jesus included) and anything related to Judaism.

Get this simple fact through your thick skull.

It does say that bats weren't sold there - but obviously no-one can verify that.

I can verify that they do sell bats there.. Right alongside snakes..

That first video is 100% not filmed in China at all, look at the sign 20 seconds in, look at what they're wearing, listen to the chatter - is it Vietnamese?
The second has some footage from China yay, and some of it may be Wuhan.
Having said all that, sure you could buy bat and snake at Huanan before it was closed down.

It is Langowan Market, Indonesia.

There are so many gods, so how do you know which is the correct one?

I believe in Mother Nature, and her ability to constantly improve the environment, and the rich diversity of life on it. She has already solved the coronavirus problem, and people are recovering. However we can't leave it alone, so we will continue to inject poison and disease into people's arms to enrich the bankers. This will create an even more crippled population ready for the next pandemic.

The God Who created the universe that operates perfectly, never failing in even one tiny law of physics. This God is perfect. The fact that He is perfect in everything and throughout Himself, shows that He is holy.

Cool

And he sanctioned slavery.

Holy my ass.  Any decent human being is better than your Bronze Age God.
830  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why I'm an atheist on: February 07, 2020, 02:33:15 PM

There you go, calling what is considered to be a string of success, failures. The failure is considering them to be successes.

However, the fact that you know that you don't know that God doesn't exist, shows that you are a hypocrite... and being a hypocrite shows that yo only wish that you were god over God.

Cool

I have no idea what are you talking about.

Do you know that Zeus does not exist?  Can you prove it?

BTW, you are ignoring the evidence for evolution, and when I pointed it out you change the subject.

What does proof of God's non-existence have to do with evolution?  Completely different fields of study.

Mythologies and Biology do not overlap.  I am not sure why you think they are.

Of course you have no idea what I am talking about. You have to learn something to have an idea of what I am talking about.

What is God? God is a Supreme Intelligence with Almighty Power. When you look at the great and wonderful way the universe works, there is no other way for it to exist than by God.

One of the greatest things about God is, He allows you to have what you ask for... outer ignorance of His existence. Yet, He maintains Himself in your inner mind so that you can't say that He just dropped you (after you come to understand that He exists, that is).

Stuff in the universe simply doesn't happen by accident. We have absolutely no example of such. In fact, our example is just the opposite. Machines have makers. The universe is a fantastic machine full of machines that follow the laws of physics precisely. The Maker of the universe is God.

Cool
ROFL.

Ask your God to post here.

Or there are some things your Almighty Supreme Intelligence cannot do?  So much for Almighty, and so much for Intelligence, never mind the Supreme Intelligence, LOL.

I dare you and your God.  Do shit in this world, don't just sit in the ozone layer on your wooden trone, or wherever your devotees think you are hiding today.

Eliminate cancer, AIDS, birth defects, then we'll talk.

God, you little piece of shit, come out and post my PIN number, or strike BADecker so that he cannot write nonsense anymore.

Strike me for all I care. LOL.  Let's go, motherfucker.

See, nothing happens.

So BADecker, what happened?  Where is your God?  Lost in action?

Where is my PIN number?

Instead, we got Coronavirus.  Nice going God, ROFL.
831  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] China Virus Source on: February 07, 2020, 02:04:30 PM
I went with bats.

...

I mean in the poll, not any other context.

I'm covering what we all know, but... the Lancet is pretty reputable, and their article the other week is quite persuasive. It's summarised here, too. A small sample of gene sequences from 9 patients in China were 99.98% identical... so very little mutation of the virus since it moved to humans, which suggests it moved to humans only extremely recently. "This finding suggests that 2019-nCoV originated from one source within a very short period and was detected relatively rapidly."
The one source, as widely reported... Huanan seafood market seems to be the common location. It does say that bats weren't sold there - but obviously no-one can verify that. Perhaps they were selling bats under the counter? Hanging from the counter. Small font because it's a bad joke. Sorry.

But if they in fact didn't sell any bats, then bat>pangolin>human does seem a likely path... they found 99% similarity between the virus in humans and that in pangolins, so... I am tempted by pangolins (in the poll). I know pangolins are trafficked for wacky 'alternative medicine', but I wasn't aware that people eat them, too.

Also I think SARs went bats>civets>humans, which does provide at least some evidence that people tend to get bat diseases via an intermediary species, so perhaps there is an aversion to eating bats directly.

Once again, Hollywood got it right, 8 years ago.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1598778/

As for the poll, of course the root cause is natural.
832  Other / Politics & Society / Re: God is in Control on: January 31, 2020, 06:04:05 PM
Mechanical technicians build cars and rockets and computers. Bio-virus technicians build biological warfare viruses.

Who has more control over what they are doing? The technicians who are not involved with microscopic life... the mechanical technicians.

Bio-virus technicians often don't know what the results of what they are doing will be. They learn, but life is such a complex machine that they don't know enough to really know the results... for sure, long term results.

But, understand one thing. The machinery of life was built by God, the Creator of all things. And, He has left Himself observations of and controls over of everything... that is, REAL controls over everything. He also desires freedom for people.

Because God is in control, and because he wants freedom for people, and because He observes everything, the only way for us to keep our freedom is to freely come to know God, and to have a free and right relationship with Him. There are 3 ways that God introduces Himself to us, so that we hopefully get into a right relationship with Him:
1. Offering it to us through the Bible;
2. Allowing pain to come to us so that we turn to Him for help;
3. Destroying those who will not accept Him, so that those who do accept will not be influenced to turn away from Him.

All the good things, all the happiness in life, all the bad things, all the trouble in life, exists controlled by God, so that people will come to a right relationship with God. God controls it all for this purpose. A right relationship with God is the only way to a right and good life.

Cool

Where is your Christian empathy?

Nice going, calling for genocide, WTF?  You are unhinged.

You really need to read more books.  You are a religious radical.
833  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why I'm an atheist on: January 11, 2020, 01:27:49 PM

   Conclusion:

The burden of proof is on the believers' side, since they are who argue for a positive thing: the existence of a mysterious higher being.

The burden of proof is on the atheists. Why? Because we all know that machinery doesn't come into existence without a machine maker. And machine universe is so complex that the universe Maker would only fit our description of "God." Indeed, our description of God is far too small. God is tremendously great beyond any way we can describe Him.

Why does all the "stuff" that your Conclusion is the conclusion of fail? Because the results are God if you add the fact of the universe machine. You can't get correct answers with only part of the equation.

Cool

If you took all the religions in the world and destroyed them, in 1000 years there would be entirely new religions, completely different from the old religions...

If you took all the science in the world and destroyed it... in 1000 years there would be EXACTLY THE SAME SCIENCE

Mathematics is not something invented by humans, it is discovered by humans... mathematics is the same in any language, on any planet... 1 + 1 = 2 is a provable concept and does not change based on societal norms or which deities they currently worship

Newton and Leibniz are credited with the co-discovery of calculus... they did not invent it, they both discovered it at the same time... math/science is universal, religion is not

Science talks about facts and natural phenomenon while religion talks about supernatural stuff too. Sometimes, stuff spoken in religion does not make sense but can at times supported with science. Science talks about assumptions and hypothesis while religion is based on stories that have been passed through centuries. Wont make sense to make a relation between these two or try to find any.
Science and religion is somehow connected to one onther but at so many point they have differences.  One is in science to see it to believe.  As long as they didnt see it they do not believe on it.  While in religion even it cannot seen by our naked eyes we still believe on such thing.

Just go back to school.

RF, magnetism, elementary particles, genes, gravity, microbes, viruses, bacteria, dark energy, black holes, dark matter, gravitational waves cannot be seen with naked eyes.

Molecular structures cannot be seen with naked eyes.  Are you sure you know what science is?

It is like asking what is the difference between fairy tales and the scientific method.

Science was used to validate that religions are in fact ancient fairy tales.  End of story.  End of discussion. Next.

I cannot stop you believe in fairy tales, but I can prove to you that the holy scriptures (of any known religions) are fairy tales.
Beyond a reasonable doubt.

Religion was around way longer than science. You are doing a trick-twist. Science validates religion that religion is right. It works like this. Back in the 1950s...

Three guys individually stopped at the same hotel at the same time. Each asked for a room. The clerk behind the desk told them that there was only one room left. They could draw straws for it, or they could share it. The guys decided to share it.

The clerk charged them $30 for the room - $10 apiece. They went up to their room.

Later, the clerk felt guilty for charging the guys so much, so he gave the bellboy $5 to return to the guys as a refund. On the way up in the elevator, the bellboy couldn't figure out how to divide $5 evenly between 3 guys, so, he decided to keep $2 as a tip.

The bellboy gave each of the guys a dollar back. This means that each guy paid only $9. Three times nine is $27, plus the $2 that the bellboy kept makes $29. What happened to the 30th dollar?

Science validates that religion is right. You simply twist the final answer.

Cool

Are you nuts?  3x$9=$27

$25 for the hotel owner and $2 for the bellboy.

Science validated that Earth is not 6000 years old, that global flood did not happen 4000 years ago, that snakes cannot talk, that the universe was not created in 6 days, that people cannot be resurrected, that people cannot be created from dirt or rib bones, that humans cannot be born to virgins, that humans cannot live in stomachs of large fish for days, etc., etc.

Science proved that the holy scriptures are utter nonsense.

GαsEdit

Gαs activates the cAMP-dependent pathway by stimulating the production of cyclic AMP (cAMP) from ATP. This is accomplished by direct stimulation of the membrane-associated enzyme adenylate cyclase. cAMP can then act as a second messenger that goes on to interact with and activate protein kinase A (PKA). PKA can phosphorylate a myriad downstream targets.

The cAMP-dependent pathway is used as a signal transduction pathway for many hormones including:

ADH – Promotes water retention by the kidneys (created by the magnocellular neurosecretory cells of the posterior pituitary)GHRH – Stimulates the synthesis and release of GH (somatotropic cells of the anterior pituitary)GHIH – Inhibits the synthesis and release of GH (somatotropic cells of anterior pituitary)CRH – Stimulates the synthesis and release of ACTH (anterior pituitary)ACTH – Stimulates the synthesis and release of cortisol (zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex in the adrenal glands)TSH – Stimulates the synthesis and release of a majority of T4 (thyroid gland)LH – Stimulates follicular maturation and ovulation in women; or testosterone production and spermatogenesis in menFSH – Stimulates follicular development in women; or spermatogenesis in menPTH – Increases blood calcium levels. This is accomplished via the parathyroid hormone 1 receptor (PTH1) in the kidneys and bones, or via the parathyroid hormone 2 receptor (PTH2) in the central nervous system and brain, as well as the bones and kidneys.Calcitonin – Decreases blood calcium levels (via the calcitonin receptor in the intestines, bones, kidneys, and brain)Glucagon – Stimulates glycogen breakdown in the liverhCG – Promotes cellular differentiation, and is potentially involved in apoptosis.[21]Epinephrine – released by the adrenal medulla during the fasting state, when body is under metabolic duress. It stimulates glycogenolysis, in addition to the actions of glucagon.GαiEdit

Gαi inhibits the production of cAMP from ATP. eg. somatostatin, prostaglandins

Gαq/11Edit

Gαq/11 stimulates the membrane-bound phospholipase C beta, which then cleaves PIP2 (a minor membrane phosphoinositol) into two second messengers, IP3 and diacylglycerol (DAG). The Inositol Phospholipid Dependent Pathway is used as a signal transduction pathway for many hormones including:

ADH (Vasopressin/AVP) – Induces the synthesis and release of glucocorticoids (Zona fasciculata of adrenal cortex in kidney); Induces vasoconstriction (V1 Cells of Posterior pituitary)TRH – Induces the synthesis and release of TSH (Anterior pituitary)TSH – Induces the synthesis and release of a small amount of T4 (Thyroid Gland)Angiotensin II – Induces Aldosterone synthesis and release (zona glomerulosa of adrenal cortex in kidney)GnRH – Induces the synthesis and release of FSH and LH (Anterior Pituitary)Gα12/13EditGα12/13 are involved in Rho family GTPase signaling (see Rho family of GTPases). This is through the RhoGEF superfamily involving the RhoGEF domain of the proteins' structures). These are involved in control of cell cytoskeleton remodeling, and thus in regulating cell migration.GβEditThe Gβγ complexes sometimes also have active functions. Examples include coupling to and activating G protein-coupled inwardly-rectifying potassium channels.
