I donot see the January reels anymore. The pricing was right on that one, ~$5 a pop.

That's one way and the other is that sells will be getting executed so quickly, that you won't be able to find a sell point.  It may show its dropping and its at 450 but bids down as low as 300 may be spoken for and by the time you've figured out what's going on, bids down to 200 or below could be spoken for.  This is how most people get stuck in a free fall crash situation.  They want to get out but they simply can't.  That's when the real panic and sheer terror sets in.

And how well does that regulator seem to work?
very well in fact. No overheating issues until max 1V that I have tested, but the bitfury chips get super hot, since I donot have adequate heatsinking for them.

Do you know how many amps you're pulling from that 30A regulator? Don't you want something a little beefier like 40A? And is an output side inductor unnecessary for that regulator?
Actually I donot have the testing tools to measure > 10A current. This chip is actually a 2phase regulator with 20A OCP limit per phase. So I am drawing less than 40A for sure. There are 2 0.2uH inductors inside the chip Tongue. If bitfury will ever reduce prices of their chips, my plan is to get boards built and quickly solder the chips and couple of decoupling caps thrown in and connect this regulator on the outside. No fuss no muss.

Nice! Maybe you could determine the amperage by measuring the resistance of the wire bundle between the reg and card while powered off, and voltage drop while running. Though it might not be possible to isolate it for the resistance measurement without desoldering.

Do those wires get hot? Could you make H-boards with that Intersil reg onboard?

I will try that. Right now I am doing stress test with the regulator Smiley

The wires are a bit warm but nowhere near hot Smiley.

My PCB dev skills are pretty rusty now, I used Orcad like 10yrs ago for school projects Wink, and haven't designed any more boards after that.

I am trying to re-learn now with Eagle software, and it will take some time for me to design a board with a new regulator. Thats why I wanted to go ahead and get the original design fabbed and plug an external regulator.

Aah okay the famous mini-H Smiley Actually I have also not seen major benefits with heatsinking h-card except for making the on-board regulator a bit stable. I am still trying to wrap my head around the issue of slower hash-rate at 0.9V. I was expecting somewhere in the ballpark of 40GH/s from 16chips.

Cool so newark sells heatskinks as well. This is useful info. Thanks Smiley

Btw did you make the boards through Oshpark? How soon was delivery?

yeah, i went through oshpark. i think my 3 boards were delivered in about 2-2.5 weeks.
Thanks for the reply man. BTW did you solder the chips by hand? If yes, which tool did you use?
968  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 17, 2013, 10:47:30 AM
my results are for an 8 chip h-card that i made (just a modified 16 chip card).
for my standard h-cards I used http://www.newark.com/abl-heatsinks/325ab1000b/heat-sink/dp/07WX4339 (needed to drill 2 holes), but I've actually ended up not heatsinking the majority of my hcards...didn't see all that much benefit (standard hcards would probably benefit most from good heatsinks on the reg...not an issue for your mod).

sexy...

i'm a little surprised at your chip speeds, though. At 0.9v, I'd found that dropping to 53 was most stable.

i think these numbers are for voltage around 0.9v (can't remember for sure and too lazy to test right now)

(of course, chainminer autotuned a few chips, but initially 53 gave me the least errors)

I am very surprised as well. I has hoping for aforementioned per chip speeds. Are these results from a 16chip H-card? Any beefy heatsinks?

why can't you mount the heatsinks on the chips themselves?  are they mounted on the backside?
yes there are heatsinks on the backside as well. I guess I need to source beefier heatsinks to test the board at >0.85V

I'm not a bitfury owner so I haven't been following the thread, but why is it that cgminer doesn't support the hardware?

Is it a closed design or something?

I couldn't say, I am talking with Kano currently about a version of Cgminer that supports Bitfury chips on Bitbuners V1 design, however it does not appear to work with the V3 miner.  Kano posted about it in this thread back a few pages here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=251966.msg3552824#msg3552824

If I remember correctly about 3 Months ago Con said something about it being a bit difficult to support the way it was designed to work with the RPI.

I think the problem Con mentioned was that you need root access on the rPI to get to the SPI bus that communicates with the ASICs.
