4121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Some questions by a Newbie on: November 27, 2017, 12:58:04 PM
Hey,

Just a heads up, you should post this in the altcoins section. They will be able to answer your questions about hardware and set up better there. Just scroll down a little ways in the homepage.
This section is only for bitcoin and asic miners, as the difficulty has outgrown gpu's.
4122  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HOW MANY HEAT EMISSION - ANTMINER S9 ? on: November 27, 2017, 04:54:35 AM
Not really sure of what your mining environment is but, don't look to cool the place. Using AC will kill your profits, unless your electricity is free.

You want to remove the warm exhaust from the miners, out of the space as soon as possible there are quite a few designs to do so. One being a hot room cold room design.

With more details of the room size, ambient temperatures and how many miners you are going to run, the forum can provide a bunch of useful information.

Hey so I'm back. I got everything tested, and sorted out my failings at logging in with my username, turns out I'm shit with passwords, lol.
So here's another couple 741's for the cause.

4124  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 Wont mine on: November 27, 2017, 03:41:25 AM
Okay I got you. Your psu should be okay. If you look at the VI, that represents voltage in and is read in milivolts. The VO, is voltage out.
I am able to run 2 units off a 2450w server PSU AT 0 voltage offset with no issue, I am definitely pushing it but it's a quality PSU.

The MW is just an observation, based on what mine looked like, I will check them later at home to see if they have also climbed, they might also be some sort of timer, that would explain why yours is higher than mine, as I have done a shutdown and restart recently.

Ah, now I'm tracking.
Thanks!

But when it comes to the milivolt readings, I'm seeing "1191 1191 1200 1200" Are those just 4 different sample readings, so one reading would be 1191?
Can I determine watts or amps from that? Not sure how to plug those numbers into a conversion calculator.
http://rapidtables.com/calc/electric/Volt_to_Watt_Calculator.htm

1 of the many things I haven't thought about. I'm not sure why there are 4, I would have though 6 based power connectors. What you can take from that is 11.91 volt and 12 volt. These wont really help you for calculations as they just show you are supplying th eproper voltage to your miner. You are good. W=V x A is the basic formula so if you know your supply voltage, and you can estimate the amps being drawn based on specs, of 1150 W.

I also restarted my cgminer and avalons today and noticed my MW readings started back at 0 so it must be some sort of tally, probably time related.

Hope that helps

The 16 is an error code, it is just a warning and I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I had it on a machine and after a shutdown for a while it went away on startup.

Here is the link.

Your voltage is fine, everything looks good as far as your miner logs are concerned. Your "MW" numbers look super high, but that might just be a setting, I think they represent hashrates for individual chips, not sure I've been looking for answers as to what a few of those things mean.

Looking at this it looks like everything is hashing normal

Even your elapsed time suggests something like 1 week.

If all you are concerned with us your hashrate  being to high, you are lucky. It has to do with the programing of canaan's miners something called smart hash, if it can it will work harder or slower depending on how it's performing.

Your 1400 w psu will be fine, just don't overclock it by adjusting the voltage setting.
4128  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Use for old Antminer S1? on: November 26, 2017, 03:12:22 PM
Not sure of your climate, but if you pay to heat your house in the winter. The best use for it is as a space heater, plug it in and let it run in the winter months.

Then definitely point it at a smaller alt coin or stay with a pool and you will be bringing in profit, as it offsets your heating costs.

You did the right thing in buying an older used model to learn about BTC, but now you know how it works and can see the benefit of spending some money on new equipment
4129  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AVALON 6 CURRENTLY on: November 26, 2017, 03:15:21 AM
no money back on either sadly... no justice so your my only hope lol

Really through eBay and PayPal protection, you aren't getting refunded for DOA unit. That's crazy. Sorry to hear about that crapshoot of an experience.
4130  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How do you power an Antminer S9 in USA / Canada with 110v? on: November 26, 2017, 03:13:55 AM
I have one S9 plugged into a 15amp 110v dedicated circuit.    It has the Bitmain PSU, and I used a regular computer power cable to connect it to the wall.

I just touched the power cord going to the wall, and it's very warm.  I'm worried it will melt and pose a fire risk.  Is there a recommended power cord that doesn't get so hot?

Thanks in advance.

What is your setup with this dedicated circuit? Can you easily convert it to a 220v. To do that you need a spare breaker space beside your current 15 amp breaker.
If you could do that I would suggest do I g this and putting in a 20 amp 2 pole breaker ( or 30 if you plan to expand).
You may also want to consider just putting in a single pole 20 amp breaker, to atleast give yourself some wiggle room. I assume when you say dedicated you mean it only has the one outlet and you are only going to run this miner on that circuit.

If you chose to keep running on the 110, are you in Canada or the U.S.? There are a few companies you can order custom cables from. You just need to know what ends toy need at the psu side and outlet side.
4131  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Tutorials on: November 26, 2017, 12:23:33 AM
guys..since its getting more and more difficult to mine its still worth it building gpu mining rigs at this time ?

thx

You can build GPU rigs for alt coin mining. For information on this you need to post and read in the alt coin section.

You can only mine bitcoin with Asic machines.
4132  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Tutorials on: November 25, 2017, 10:21:03 PM
To get started you should read the threads in the hardware section. This will help you figure out what hardware toy want.
Then use Google to find some articles to give you the basics, and also read the beginners section here in the forum
From there figure out your electricity costs, and see if it will be profitable for you to mine.
If you have the electrical and physical space, wherever you want to set up. Buy a miner whichever one you can afford and has the potential to turn a profit.
Then pick a pool to mine with and go from there. Once you get past the should I buy one point the forums are a great resource for info.

Hi all,
is it normal that the AUC3's light change to red for a second then change to green. It happens like every couple mins or so.

This appears to be normal, mine do the same. It probably has something to do with communications or a reject share, I have no idea.
All I know is that as long as it's a quick flash and then go's back to green you are in the clear.

Here is a link to the LED's and what they mean, I didn't find a reference to the flashing red.

4134  Bitcoin / Mining support / API log- Avalon 741/ Understanding readouts on: November 25, 2017, 05:19:00 AM
Hi,

I've been trying to familiarize myself with the API logs and what most of the readings mean.
If anyone has a list of what all the lines mean that would be great.
Some of the ones I would like to understand more are the following:

GHSmm[8185.62]
ECMM[0]                what does the (mm) mean in both cases

I'm guessing these are boards or banks of chips, is that correct? MM0, MM1, MM2, MM3

Code:
MW[36357 36357 36357 36357]
    LW[145428]
    MH[3999 6 3 6]
    HW[4014]
    FM[1]
    CRC[0 0 0 0]
    PAIRS[0 0 0]
PVT_T[20-74/12-84/80 0-76/12-85/78 21-75/14-87/78 0-74/13-83/80]

Also is there anyway to graph what each individual Miner is hashing, I suspect that 1 of my 2 Miners has a wildly fluctuating hashrate but can't be sure and am just trying to avoid running them 1 at a time for a day to monitor, ( I'm cheap) between the 2 I've seen these extremes, 11.6 TH/S up to 19.1 TH/S. If there is no way to graph there hashrate I will just run them 1 at a time.

Thanks in advance
4135  Economy / Services / Re: VLB.IO Signature and Avatar Campaign(FULL) on: November 25, 2017, 01:41:37 AM
Full

This is clearly stated in the title. The thread is left open for transparency sake. If you chose to apply to a campaign that says full, and wear the signature that is a risk you are taking in hopes you get accepted.

The manager owes you nothing in way of a reply, they have updated the campaign as much as it needs.
4136  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bitcoin, how much should I use on hardware? on: November 24, 2017, 03:59:08 PM
To give you any info, you need to provide more details.
This question gets asked a lot bit here are the basic things to consider.
1) what are your electricity costs? This determined if you can be a home miner, medium to large scale miner or if you need to use a hosting facility.
2) what is your budget, only you know what you can spend?
3) how much space do you have to mine in? Both electrically and physical space to put the gear.

Short answer there is Avalon 741, bitmain s9, and ebit 9 series.
There is also a Pangolin miner that a review was recently done on if you look through the hardware threads.
I would say spend what you can afford ad a long-term investment, on wholesale prices equipment.

Hey,

I just switched over to the pool last night. Figured it was as good a time as any, I did create a username but had issues logging in, and pointing a worker under that username.
Not sure if it had to do with the login issues last night, but I just used a BTC address, I'm wondering after my ramp up will I be able to switch over to using my username or would that cause me to go through a ramp up period again?

Thanks

4138  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: A741 Temperature Allow on: November 22, 2017, 12:54:04 AM
That's still within range for sure does it tell you if your fan is runni f 100%. You wouldn't want it to get any warmer in the room, but if that was all day, and you can periodically open the door to bring down the temperature you should be fine.
4139  Economy / Services / Re: VLB.IO Signature and Avatar Campaign(FULL) on: November 21, 2017, 04:03:09 PM
Payments have been sent to those who qualified

Thanks again. Payment received promptly.

As it stands are we running for 1 more week or 2?

Nothing like kicking a person while they are down. It was a mistake to trust this user, and I'm sure he won't do it again.
Sorry to hear you got burnt... When in doubt next time just think to yourself people suck, unless proven otherwise. Sinicism goes along way in business deals.
I speak from experience unfortunately.
