Nice explanation. I was wondering the same thing the other day so I quoted someone's reply hoping it would show the code; lucky me it did.

So if anyone ever forgets there's a nice little hack. Only works if you can find a readily available post which isn't hard to do in Meta anyways.
3762  Other / Meta / Re: Satoshi would not like the current state of this forum on: March 29, 2018, 11:59:27 PM
Satoshi should atleast show up in this forum once in a while and let us know his opinions on the present state of Bitcoin and the Forum.
That will save us a lot of speculative posts about him and provide space for more important discussions.

Why?

It is pretty clear 1 of 4 things happened or are the way Satoshi wants it.

1) Created bitcoin and is now allowing it to find it's own path without interference. Anything Satoshi would say would essentially lead to tainting others opinions.
2) Has an alt account and likes to read/monitor/study the evolution of their creation
3) Is dead, I hate to say it but shit happens all the time
4) Had an accident and doesn't remember who they are/coma.

Maybe their are others, plus who wants to show up and deal with a million PM's about how to bitcoin/how to earn with bitcoin/should i invest....blah blah blah

Nice to see a unit. Maybe the #1 meant only 1 ever made... Tongue

Glad to see something materialize hopefully everyone gets what they paid for. Would have been nice to see the Demo via Phil

3764  Other / Meta / Re: PSA message to all BCT accounts explaining Merit on: March 29, 2018, 10:50:12 PM

THIS PERSON IS TRADING MERRITS AND GIVES NEGATIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS, PLEASE CHECK HIS MERRITS !!

You make me wish I had made this a self moderated thread for the first time ever( Not even sure if I can in Meta) Try to stay on topic. Go slander somewhere else create your own thread and do so with proof.

The reason why these shitposters keep posting new threads about merit and keep posting in existing merit threads is because that's where they see merits being given out.  But their posts are still god-awful and just because they're now magically in Meta doesn't make them any more merit worthy.

This is still fallout from the first few days where every other post/thread deserving or not had merit thrown at it just because it had something to do with Merit. All one can do is hope that it goes away, as has been suggested it will with the passing of time. Now I'm the naive one, saw that in the other thread.

It would then allow mods to delete any new shit-threads that keep asking the same questions over and over, because then they could point the person to the link that has the answer.  I'm just not sure Theymos wants to do something like that.

Yeah ultimately it is up to them, I just wanted to put an idea out there, and now I can say I tried something. Whether they implement it at not, it'll be like another day at the office for me.
3765  Other / Meta / PSA message to all BCT accounts explaining Merit on: March 29, 2018, 10:24:23 PM
Just wondering if Theymos or another staff member can create and send a mass message to all current and future accounts explaining the Merit system.

I have seen people posting almost endlessly either through ignorance or indifference asking what is this? How does this work?

This doesn't even include all the complaining or whining about it. (It is what it is, move on)

The message really just has to encompass the original announcement by Theymos, maybe the established Do's and Dont's. Also any links deemed relevant to the subject could be included.

Side thought while typing this, for new accounts. Let's put a link in directing to the forum rules. With a twist, you know how you have to accept the terms of use on everything these days let's add that in. Not at the bottom like suckers but somewhere in the middle so that people have to actually read it.

Just to be sure it gets through to everyone we would need it to be translated for all local boards.

3766  Other / Off-topic / Re: vlad230's post review service - Jr. Member and up [OPEN] on: March 29, 2018, 09:47:56 PM

confused...there is merit...is the sMerit stuff that the higher ups hand out for folk to pass around more than usual?

confused on how the whole thing works...I hand out merit occasionally...but again sMerit is something else right?

(unsure of the process)

brad

SMerit stands for sendable merit. These are the ones you can hand out when you think a post deserves it.

Merit is the merit each person has received that shows up on their profile. It is needed to rank up on the forum.

It is covered to a rediculous amount in meta.

If you click on the merit button it will tell you how much sendable merit you have, above where it gives you the option to award merit.

Hope that helps

EDIT: each month you receive a certain amount of smerit to hand out. also there is no benefit to holding or hoarding it.
3767  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Old AntMiner S5 mining issues on: March 29, 2018, 09:41:23 PM

It is not totally dead, how it can "rehab" like laptops etc, but something is clearly wrong. Temperature rises almost +100 C Then it starts that VERY LOUD beeping noise. I know there's are a possibility to order totally new bitcoin hashingboards.
Clock speed rises that 1,09 Th/s.

Okay I'm trying to follow you and assist.

Your saying you restart it and it runs.                 It reaches 1.09TH/s which is fine for the S5.                 Then it hits temps of 100C, this is not good.

So your problems are going to be either the fan is dying and can't keep up, or you are not exhausting the heat properly.

I get that the equipment has run fine for years, but electronics fail and die all the time, and can't always be rehabed. The very loud beeping is a safety alarm I believe the S5's had for high temp warnings.

So looking at your picture let the unit cool down and you may save the hashboard, no guarantee. Move it to a space where it will exhaust the heat better. If you have a spare S5 fan you can attach it to the other side of the miner and run 2 fans to provide better cooling. There is a connection for it next to where the first fan connects to the control board. Also check the miner over and see if it needs a good cleaning if is dust and dirt on the heatsinks and fins it can't dissipate heat properly.

You may have already destroyed the one hashboard beyond saving and can try the marketplace to find a replacement, but I would say it's time to try and get something else. Maybe watch cryptouniverse for their next batch of used 741's or something like that.

Good luck
3768  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 29, 2018, 08:32:22 PM

Though I love the enthusiasm that this coin is generating, it has almost nothing interesting about it other than its not so novel algo and the most elusive fair launch feature.

But then again they will announce the roadmap on the 3rd of April.

Also philipma is a veteran in the crypto world and could be seeing something that I dont.

Edit: Also having this coin reach 1 dollar would be valuation similar to bitcoin being at $1000 considering its total supply.

There were a few things I liked about the project, when I read up on what they have out so far.

They are trying hard to come up with an asic resistant algorithm, and it looks like they've come up with a clever way. Admittedly I do not know enough to see if they have succeeded or not, time will tell.

The fact that there was no pre-mine on coins and no amount set aside for the DEV team is also a huge plus.

In the end I am trusting everything they have put out, and I like it. As I've said before I'm no genius but it did feel good to see people here talking about it, it also helped me figure some stuff out on my end before moving forward.
3769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 29, 2018, 05:00:47 PM
this Raven  coin has a serious up side to it.

I see it over 1 usd by December

I was glad to see everyone talking about it here, I was reading up on it and you guys helped validate my plan to switch over this weekend when I'm off shift.

I'm also trying to get away from Windows so lots of changes and playing around.

Thanks for all the info
3770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Researching Mining on: March 29, 2018, 04:57:57 PM
First off, this would be a question to post in the Alt coin section as it is GPU mining. If you look into buying Asics to mine Bitcoin then definitely post in this section.

Next when it comes to mining you have to look at a couple of things biggest being your electricity costs as those cut into you profits greatly. You can look into some mining profitability calculators to see what your expected returns are going to be.

Seeing as you have a gaming PC right now you probably noticed GPU's are pricey and that means it will take you longer to ROI, and then see profit. Mining is a long term investment and there is no guarantee you will make a profit in the end.

I would spend some time going through the Alt coin mining section and then do a bit of google research there are sites out there that will direct you to all the parts you nee for a complete build.

Good luck
3771  Other / Meta / Re: [IDEA] Instead of Decaying Unused sMerits why not Re-Allocate It on: March 29, 2018, 04:50:57 PM
If I go into a supermarket with £100 in my wallet, and I leave without buying anything, should the supermarket be able to take some of my money?

If members have sMerits because of their special interests, then they should be allowed to keep those until they feel they want to award post related to their interest. One example would be a member who just visits the legal board. He shouldn't be forced to wade through a load of posts that are of no interest to him.

As Merit is not considered currency and has no value other than the value a person or the Forum put on it... Think Beanie Babies lol.

I would use the example of Flyers being handed out to advertise a show, if someone is not handing them all out because he only stands on one corner of a street and doesn't move around. Yeah you should be able to throw away or "decay" some of those; or better yet each day they go out and not hand out a few flyers maybe some of them get damaged and they get trashed anyways, think loose papers in a school bag. Not the best example for the flyer but if your particular "corner" has someone who lives in an apartment building and wants to advertise there for you, you might give them 20 flyers. Think of that as a great post getting a heavier weight of Merit because it's in your niche and you like it.

This in no way hurts the system as there is not a finite amount of Merit available.

Now if you have someone who actively walks the streets, day or night lol. They will probably hand out all their flyers and can then apply for more. The advertiser or "Theymos" can then print more as they see fit. Now they may check to make sure they aren't pulling a Bart Simpson and dumping the Chinese take out menus in the trash, or just handing them all to their buddies to make sure the system is working as they see fit.

You may want to check out slush pool which supports this, It really doesn't provide you with much extra, never even really saw the stats on conversion. Not sure if there are other pools running this at the moment.

3773  Other / Meta / Re: Is Talk merit an alt? on: March 28, 2018, 10:27:54 PM
*Snip*
I really want to disassociate Jet Cash from merit discussion, and putting Talk Merit in my sig would prevent that.
*Snip*

I love when people talk (type) in the 3rd person lol.

Also it was pretty clear from the beginning it was you, but nice to see you have so many supporters.

Next test throw your own funeral to hear what people say.

You are on a good path, ranking up will be just a matter of time for you. Your knowledge in the mining field is decent.
Merited! Good luck Smiley

Thank you for the kind words and honest review.
3775  Other / Meta / Re: Lets Break The QuestionAuthority NOW !!! on: March 28, 2018, 07:41:06 PM

QuestionAuthority made a thread in Invest&Account Board to give merit to people who can show him/her/it 10-20 good posts, instead of giving merit to the original post of the requester, he/she/it merrited the "request post", and some meritted on one of their post on bitcoin discussion, thats is why the number is big on that 2 board. I guess it is an acceptable moves because QuestionAuthority already reviewed the users' posts.

I think that is bad for the forum for this reason.

Merit is supposed to be awarded to encourage good posting, and to provide examples to other members. Awarding a begging post rather than the correct post, not only gives the impression that begging is good, but it doesn't provide the good examples for other members. I appreciate that it's hard when one is awarding for multiple posts, but imho it would be better to award the best post, rather than the begging post.

I get what your saying. I was on the fence about posting in threads offering Merit to quality posters, but I bit the bullet and now do it when I see the opportunity. Most of my posts are to troubleshoot and help people it's what I find interesting. Unfortunately that did not result in much merit going my way as most of them are new and in need of assistance. They either didn't have Merit or don't hand it out. Who knows why people do what they do.

Yes I wear Sigs, but I'm not trying to rank up for a bigger payday, I guess I like the idea of hitting SR Member and wearing it like a badge. Vain I know but I can't help it. I really only started wearing Sigs when I realized I could gain a bit of coin to supplement my mining; while doing what I was already doing.

My take on the Merit I received from Question Authority is that if someone sees what I was given and reviews the posts I put in that reply or their reply to me. They then have a nice lump of Quality posts to use as 1 example of a way to earn Merit.

Since the system came into play I have tried to branch out into some of the less useful sections ( My personal opinion) even got into a few jokey convos with people. It's just not what I use this Forum for.

Either way rambling over. I respect your opinion but also see the benefits in the way Merit was awarded.

Hey there,

Just dropping a few for review thanks for taking the time. I do have a few posts in the Alt coin section but not many. Soon to have a few more about my first rig build just haven't had the time to "put pen to paper about it"

Hi

I dont have a spare auc3 converter. The leds are white in the miner and blue + green in auc converter

Tanks
Topkiller

Where did you buy the miner?

I can't remember if the Converters lights show normal (which is what you described) when it isn't flashed? I would then guess that it is either your converter or the cable to the miner.

I don't know for sure that it matters, but if you are looking at the back did you plug the cable into the port on the left side? Also just make sure the cable is in all the way.
I remember that being the suggested way to do it and to use the right side port for daisy chaining multiple miners.

You might have to reach out to the Distributor you purchased from for a converter or cable. Maybe a support ticket with Canaan as well.
3779  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon Controler No devices on: March 28, 2018, 02:32:00 PM
It may be your AUC3 converter, between the controller and the miner. Do you have a spare one by chance? If you do try swapping it out.

I know in the past a few have gone out that weren't flashed for operation.

What do the lights look like on the miner and on the AUC3 converter?

You are in the wrong section. This belongs in Marketplace.
Reported to MODS to be moved.

Now the same thing I'll ask you there.

Will you accept trusted Forum Escrow? Would that be Paypal Goods and service?

Can you take a photo of the gear with your Forum username and the date handwritten on a piece of paper in the photo.

Good luck with your sale
