What you need to do is figure out what your local electricity costs are. Then look into what it would cost you to get your hands on a Miner, used can be okay but if you want to make a profit and are new I suggest buying a new piece of equipment. I chose the Avalon 741, because I need the reliability, and can afford to pay a little higher in electricity costs.
Take that information to a profitability calculator and punch in the data. This will tell you how profitable it will be with a snapshot, then add say 1.5 months to your ROI to estimate difficulty increases. You can also try to find ways to improve your efficiency depending on your climate. My miners will run in my basement to contribute to my overall heating costs.
Good luck

If it happens again, I'm pretty sure your lights will stay on for the Auc converter and the controller if it has lights.
The only lights that would go off due to a Power supply issue are on the Miners themselves. When I was first setting up my new Avalons I had to change around how I was directing air as my Power supply shut off after a few days due to a high Temp switch on the PSU itself. After that adjustment I had no further issues.
I am wondering when you said you have no response from the controller. Do you have your Miner and controller running of a Surge protector strip? If so you may want to check that it is rated to handle the amps for your miner? Good luck.

off topic, how much hashrate i can get for my 2000$? i want to know and where can i buy it?
Depends on how fast you want it. There are threads out there that cover the 3 companies pumping out new equipment. Canaan (Minerwarez), Bitmain, Ebang. They all have products working and that ship out, they all have different reliability track records, and different efficiency ratings. So check out those sites, then check the forum threads and boom, you can buy some equipment. Or you can cloudmine, but I think running your own equipment is better; but that's just my opinion. And yes off topic, so don't reply to me, just dig around in the forum.

As stated in my previous post, those are your best bet. I understand wanting the best deal, but no one is going to take a loss on equipment out of the goodness of their heart. So any better deal you find is either used or a scam. Best of luck.

I noticed today that they are no longer taking orders for Avalon 741s for November 20th. The new batch is for December 5th.

So it can be a few things. Have you entered your pool data to mine? If so what pool are you mining on? Maybe try a different one and make sure you are following the pool log in info in regards to password not being blank. You mentioned you had it set on Wi-Fi, is it possible to move things and use an ethernet connection to make sure it's not a network issue. What colour lights are you getting in the back if the miner?
Are you actually getting logged into the cgminer interface for your rasp pi?

hello , i want to buy 2 Avalon miner 741 , with total hash rate of 14.6 Th/s . will it worth to start mining now ? i'll but both for $2400
You have to look at the whole picture. What are your electricity costs? Then go look at a profitability calculator and plug in the numbers. Myself it is profitable, I picked up the same setup you are talking about, and I plan to use them to supplement the heat in my home, because I live in a cold winter climate. This helps cutdown my ROI time, as I would have spent that money on electricity anyways via my furnace.

I am in story as well, testing this winter in Winnipeg I'm only a couple hours away, I'm planning on moving my miners into the basement and running them to my furnace intake. I know they were loving the cold nights the past few weeks. I never did start them in freezing temperatures though.

Hi there,
In short No.
To mine bitcoin and make it profitable or worth while even as a hobby, you need to use an Asic Miner. There is information on all currently relevant hardware available throughout the forum. A short list is Canaan's Avalon products, Bitmain Antminers, and Ebang's Ebit Miners.
The forum will provide you with all relevant information on those products.

Thanks for everyone replies. The unit came in today and set-up was simple. I had a question on power supply connectors but got that straightened up. So I am mining!
Thanks again,
Glad to hear it, they are nice units. I have 2 set up that have been consistently hitting 16 TH/S combined. Did you ever settle on a pool? have you thought about what exchange you are going to use?
|
|
|
I forgot to answer the second part of your question. Price doesn't necessarily dictate quality. You are looking for TH/S, and power consumption. All gear has a spec sheet that goes over these things.
Also you may want to check out the threads in mining basics and keep doing research before buying anything.

There are a few mentions of this already on the forum but here are the 3 companies at the moment selling to the public. Bitmain.com Canaan sells the Avalon 741 through a distributor Minerwarez.com http://miner.ebang.com.cnThey sell the ebit. You can find info about all of them on this forum. There are also resellers and what not.

Is anyone an Avalon 6 guru? Or point me in the right direction. I purchased a set from Miner WareZ and cannot get anything to show up in the Avalon2 Dev area of the console. I have tried 3 different AUC2 devices and 2 separate controllers. Thx.
I only started running 741's, but you may want to try opening a support ticket on Canaan's website as minerwarez, is only a distributor. They can help with shipping related stuff but probably not so much with setup issues. Hope this helps. If you do have minerwarez issues there us this thread for them https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2277516.0

Glad to hear you are up and running. In the future or when you upgrade you might want to look into getting a single Psu to run 1 or 2 machines. Depending in if you have 110 or 220 volt service.
Phil had some good advice on Psu's from parallel miner, and myself I like Amitylabs through their ebay store. They are a bettet quality Psu's meant for full service 24/7.
Do you mean the paperclip trick to tell the Psu to stay on, I remember stumbling upon it while googling information when I was looking at getting started.

You're going to want to post this in the marketplace. You will find people selling items there.

Good luck, sounds like it will be quite the operation.

It can take a few days to reach support but maybe things have slowed down.
What power supply are you using?

Hey guys, Ordered 2 Avalons 741 from Miner Warez for the batch shipping Nov 06. Got some money again so now I'm thinking ordering a couple more for the one shipping Nov 20. Do any of you bought from Miner Warez before? Is the site reliable? What do you think? Also: Come on blooocks! The site is reliable, there is a thread in Hardware dedicated to them as a distributor https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2277516.0
