The chargebacks are a concern, except that I once found out the hard way that they offer no buyer protection for BTC purchased using paypal. Lucky for me the credit card company had my back, that time.
You could have them send it through friends and family, this way they have to use cash balance, and there is no chargeback issues.

Here is an example of people getting really screwed. https://news.bitcoin.com/mt-gox-bankruptcy-claimants-are-not-happy-with-possible-distribution-outcome/This was well before I got into crypto but it was around the time I first thought about getting involved. Like others have said regardless of how you paid the price is in relation to the USD. I myself being Canadian, would not receive my full refund in CAD depending on how it is paid my refund would reflect the exchange rate. Had the price crashed you would still be entitled to a USD rate refund and would be able to fight for that. Again no one who orderd has to be happy about how things turned out, but it is nice to see that the refunds as promised have been sent out.

Nice to see everyone bent back into shape.
Really great of Blokforge to step up and put that link out there, pleasant surprise with the discount rate.
One thing I have noticed is that people don't seem to realise all the bashing and shittalking that was directed at a business like this will help no one. If we continue to treat the few businesses that provide customer service in this industry in such a manner, that level if service could disappear.
Thanks again blokforge for looking out for the little guys, while still keeping your business in business.

That theory only really works when there is supply available. All Asics companies are pumping out everything they can when they can. Some that run their own farms and pools might be holding units longer but that's neither here nor there.
Supply and demand are a clear formula, and unfortunately right now we're in the expensive side of it.

I can't say I'm to surprised by the price, definitely glad it's lower than the EU pricing. This is just what happens when they are the only Asic machine that you can get in hand and hashing within 4 weeks (can't remember expected delivery).
I don't think that there are any other Avalon batches coming out until March; so it's a game of do you need/want one now or do you wait until late February/March to see what pricing will be.

Okay so this discussion has gone off topic.
The issue with your orders has been noted. And the posts will be left in place.
Feel free to start a thread in service discussion or wherever else you see fit regarding your feelings about minerwarez, or Canaan.

Do you accept escrow?
Seeing as this is a preorder can you bring up the confirmed order screen on your pc/laptop with a piece if paper that has the date and your username on it.
It seems suspicious because they had a limit in the number of units you could buy. Also if this is legit, most people would try and make some money off the mistake.

I can say that winnipeg Canada does not have the lowest rates for electricity. Alberta has lower rates than Manitoba, but I can't speak for the rest of North America.
There has been a rumour floating around about the cracking down, but there has been nothing substantial.
I doubt there are boatloads of miners coming overseas, as it would take a decent amount if time to just secure a facility and get it operational.
As far as making money with 10 machines, it depends on the 10 machines their hashrate, power costs, and the efficiency. For example people are turning a profit on machines that were obsolete, but those are phasing out with difficulty increases.
My suggestion is if they have miners in hand set them up asap, point them at a pool that pays the transaction fees to the miners and keep going until they make no money.

Yeah not sure if that's a permanent switch or just for these small batches. I would say from their perspective it cuts down on PayPal and credit card fees.

So this is a copy paste of a post I made in another thread and I think it is still relevant here. It has been cut to suit this topic
Here's the thing I find funny.
Everyone seems to forget that this is a business that deals in let's call it "boutique" electronics. They have to find a balance between sale price, and their costs; which include: salaries to employees, initial hardware costs, and warehouse costs such as electricity, internet, phone etc. Not to mention big surprise... profit, no one runs a business to break even.

Ha Ha,,, I just noticed this when writing my request to cancel my MinerWarez order.
MinerWarez says that they are giving every one a super good deal on the 821 units of $2,898.00 USD
But if you were to go to Canaan the retail price of 160 units is $173,100.00.
173,100.00 / 160 = 1081.875
So the cost has not gone up that much! They are just trying to screw us!!!!
SMH
Your math is a little off there, those pallets are 60 units.

You do not need to be connected to the miners to connect to the controller.
The trick I had to use when I set mine up was to use an old d-link router I had. I hooked it up, along with my laptop. the d-link runs on the 192.168.0 setting. I kept having trouble changing my laptops IP address so I tried this on a whim and got lucky.
Then I was able to log into the controller and set it to DCHP. After that I reconnected it to my home network and was able to find it's new IP address.

Thanks for the links Phil,
The cards have 1 - 8 pin, and 1 - 6 pin.
I was planning on using risers, mostly because I didn't know any better.
This is my first build and I figured I would go for 6 cards right now, because who knows what things will be like in a month or 2.

I think right now the premium is more based on getting the miners in hand, as opposed to waiting a couple of months; and it doesn't look like their were a lot of 821's released for this early batch between all the distributors.
I think the business model with Canaan has changed to allow the distributors more flexibility in setting their prices. Probably why you don't see the individual price on Canaan's page for the 821 in the way that you saw the 741 price.
So we'll just have to wait and see what they come up with for a price; either way we'll all know soon enough.

So is it a price I would want to pay? Not really but the difference is you get the Miner in hand and mining as opposed to paying wholesale costs and waiting for 3 months.
The market right now is crazy, and until a large number of units become available at the same time pricing will stay on the higher end.
That's where you have to make the decision on what you want to do to get your hands on equipment; they're just trying to run a business.

Thanks for the help earlier Phil. I have questions regarding PSU's
So I have managed to secure 6 Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 OC 8GB cards. ( Backorder but close enough)
The site I took my guidance from is suggesting a 1000 W PSU; but I'm thinking that was for 4GB cards. I read these cards take up to 235 W, not including the rest of the system.
If you have any experience with these, would a 1600 W PSU do the trick? Also what would be the startup sequence if I were to split the load between 2 PSU's. I have time to shop around but figured I should try by getting pointed in the right direction.
Thanks

They have said you can order from outside the EU, and that there would be some adjustment if price; in regards to VAT. Not sure about payment, I haven't ordered from them.
|
|
|
Can anyone confirm what exact payment they will take for the 10 for members, or the batch release on the website.. btc ? bch? credit card ? etc..
It will depend on what country you are in. It will be the same payments they take normally, so I think in the U.S. that means PayPal, credit, BTC. Other countries that's BTC and USD wire transfer.
