3921  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Installing 10x dedicated 50amp outlets - $8000 reasonable ? on: January 24, 2018, 08:25:30 AM
That sounds super high. Especially if the panel is already in place and they are just going straight up.

I would bring in a few different electricians and get quotes from them.

Also you should ask for an itemized break down in the quote so you can at least keep them a little honest.

4876 people trying to simultaneously buy less than 200 units.  cart just has problems on the last few, its millliseconds between stock removal and addition for the last few.  It is not that it is getting pulled from your cart, the front end caching is not caught up with the backend and it was not available to begin with.  If you can replicate a way to have 4000 people checkout at the same time on three different browsers, send us a resume.  But for the few that emailed us saying they had problems and didnt tell us to eat a d**k we took care of them. Smiley

Eat a duck... seems like a weird thing to say.  Huh.

Couldn't help myself

3923  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BRAND NEW Antminer s9 13.5TH/s with PSU on: January 24, 2018, 05:27:11 AM
Can you post a photo of the miner with your BTCtalk username and the date handwritten.

I'm pretty sure bitmain warranty doesn't extend to the second owner so you might want to remove that from the post.

Do you accept forum trusted Escrow?
3924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 24, 2018, 03:45:17 AM
@ Vosk

Nice vids, I've been watching a bunch of yours lately as I've branched into GPU mining; decided to take the plunge. So far my favorite part is the "If Bitmain stole your baby bit"

Keep up the good work
haha I was hoping people liked that as after when I was editing I was like . . funny or this dude is just freaking weird xD

Thanks man that's so cool to hear, whats your farm consist of?

Right now it's just a couple Avalon 741's.

And all the parts for my first 6 rig set up, except my backordered sapphire RX 580's.

Should be a nice learning experience, but I do wish I had seen a few of your videos before I ordered everything. Live and learn, depending on pricing in March I might copy/paste one of your builds. Wink

I settled on funny, but I like weird haha
3925  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: January 24, 2018, 03:31:02 AM
Here's the thing people. Stop complaining;  Wink

Unlike every other company out they go out of there way to list any extra units that become available for forum members. They even carve out a small slice for us from the main order.

It does suck when you try and can't get through or you happen to get there to late. I'm sure they will try and fix it, but really if you get to the end and it says out of stock, take a minute breathe, and then act like you just got there and there were none available.

If people keep shitting on their efforts where is the incentive for them to come here and give us a shot at units, and even a slight discount sometimes.

3927  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: January 24, 2018, 02:42:37 AM
(1) they're not shipping yet
(2) there is no official price on them yet.
(3) NOBODY is "snatching up these 821s" because they're NOT AVAILABLE YET.

Their *SPECULATED* price is triple the 741 based on the price spike Bitcoin had a couple weeks back and the resulting Bitmain S9 pricing on THEIR last batch.

If Bitcoin stays around it's current price, the 821 likely will end up selling close to $2000.

They can get away with higher pricing than the S9 even when the performance is lower due to the far lower FAILURE rate they have compared to the S9.

They haven't shipped out yet from Canaan, but they are available. I think they are on schedule for the pre-order shipping from Blokforge of February 7th; based on the last mass email from Canaan. These units were priced at a "premium" due to the fact that I think there were only 200 available for the early ship date, half with crypto universe and the other half with Blokforge.

The price they originally charged I'm sure had everything to do with capitalizing on the surge in price of BTC, I'm not shocked Canaan went that route, but it was a far cry from the estimated 200$/TH they were estimating back in November.

If the current price of BTC stays relatively the same I do think that Canaan will reduce the price point to be closer to their original estimates, but the price will be subject to distributor mark ups.

As for the snatching up, people did slow their roll a little at least that's what I saw with stock actually sitting out a while on the Blokforge site. Probably due to the high price tag and the drop in BTC value. They are still selling out though, and the nice thing right now is Blokforge posts in their thread for Forum members when they have extra available from orders that fall through.
3928  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 23, 2018, 10:17:38 AM
Hi There,

DragonMint 16T Miner (April Batch 4) is now back in stock at Halong Mining. You have been sent this email because your email address was registered on a waitlist for this product.

If you would like to purchase DragonMint 16T Miner (April Batch 4) please visit the following link: https://halongmining.com/shop/dragonmint-16t-miner/

USD wires are possible though MyRig Inc by completing this form: https://halongmining.com/customer-information/

I'm sorry I've lost count is this now the 3rd release that they've had?

Considering I've been following the thread since close to the beginning I can't say I'm shocked, but this is a bold play for a company who has yet to produce a single retail unit or give any sort of guarantee to their customers.

And why oh why is it constantly a brand new account or some other variation bringing in these great opportunities, and in the right thread. Considering most first time posters can't even find the right section to make their first post.

No one send them anymore money until at least the first batch has shipped out
3929  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 inflow and outflow temps on: January 23, 2018, 04:08:43 AM
What are they doing at the moment? Do you have them mining if so how long have the temps been stable at this level.

There isn't really anything wrong with them, I imagine if they hit 90 the fan speeds would pick up to cool them. You might have just fallen into a sweet spot for them where they feel they are cool enough and don't need to ramp up at all.

Also if you aren't watching and refreshing your status page you might not be seeing them speed up and slow down again.

Did you play around with the fan settings at all?

3930  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 50x Antminers S9 in Louisville KY on: January 23, 2018, 03:42:23 AM
Have you tried contacting any hosting facilities yet? Make sure to do your research before sending anyone you miners I imagine there are a few pop up scam websites doing the same thing as the fake reseller sites.

I know of 2 in Canada but I'm not sure what is going on with Great North Data at the moment. Then there is cryptoboreas but I think they are full.

Have you looked into renting a few smaller locations in and around your area? maybe even 1 larger location.

This post should probably go in Marketplace as well, considering you are looking to pay for a service.

Good luck
3931  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: January 23, 2018, 03:29:09 AM
Hello do somebody advice me should I change dwarf pool to Slush Pool? Which will better?

That depends on what you are mining. Slush pool only mines BTC, and ZEC. So if you are mining other coins than those 2 there is no reason to switch over.

I currently only mine BTC, so I can't speak to the ZEC side of things. You might get better responses in the alt coin section as to what pools people are preferring to mine with.
3932  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Advice on mining farm Quebec on: January 22, 2018, 03:58:07 AM
Honestly Danny; if it were me I wouldn't limit myself to Quebec.
Alberta had awesome rates and you can pick up buildings an hour or 2 outside of major centers for a decent price right now before the economy begins to kick back into overdrive.

You can look into Manitoba, there are tons of small towns with high-speed connections. Usually you can find a space and retrofit it to your needs. The "larger" centers also have what you would want but that comes with the visibility and regulations if being inside a city.

I can't speak to the rest of the provinces but I imagine saskatchewan to offer a similar opportunity to that in manitoba.

I would try contacting the utility companies in several provinces and weigh your tax options against them. The hosting services i know of operate out of newfoundland and labrador for example.

If you come to Manitoba, I could help you source a location potentially. Also all of our utility companies are slow, and won't provide you with insight on a location. They will however show up for your money.

Good luck

Thanks for clarifications @frodocooper
3934  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: January 20, 2018, 04:36:15 AM
Sorry to beat a dead horse, so to say. I'm not technically savy but I like to learn so let me know if I get this correct and definitely point out anything wrong.

Firmware has NOTHING to do with the controllers. Firmware resides only inside the miners themselves. The 721/741/821 all run the same controller SOFTWARE which is based on OpenWRT & LUCI.

Thanks for the information, I do appreciate it.

So in the example of setting up a controller off a Rasp PI, I would load the suggested Firmware following the instructions on the Canaan site.

Is the "SOFTWARE which is based on OpenWRT & LUCI" just part of this package that I would be flashing to the SD card? I get hung up on the terms

Is the 821 firmware available for the controllers yet?   I got a blokforge 741 controller but now getting an Avalon 821 miner instead so mineaswell get ready

Yes. You may find the software and firmware for the A821 here.

The current RPi software works for both the A6 and the A7, chances are it will work for the A8 as well. The big difference will be the internal mm firmware for the miners daughter card, that is what actually controls the boards.

No, all Controller (Raspberry Pi) software before version 20171216 are not compatible with the A8 series. Controller (Raspberry Pi) support for the A8s only began with the addition of commit 591b6a9 and the ones after it.

Thanks for the links, and clarification.

So if I get this right, anyone with a version of the Software for their controller older than the one you point out, would need to reflash the SD card with new version marked as "Controller Firmware" for the 821.

In doing this in theory anyone with Avalon 6, 721, 741, and 821 could run off the same controller? Or at least they could go with 741's and 821's

If they do run a mix on this controller down the road if they upgrade MM firmware for Miners they just have to diconnect say the 821's to update the 741's and vice versa.

Any chance they can accept pogs or chuck e cheese tokens in their next back?  Cheesy

Smiley  what is a pog?

I feel sad for you, lol

On the other hand that means you didn't lose friends over metal slammers, lol 90's kids
3936  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: January 19, 2018, 09:50:26 AM
No you are just dealing with the variance in Mining.

If you notice the CDF blue bar it only hit 100% about 45 minutes ago or something. That is the expected time between blocks.

before this "drought" we'll call it we hit 10 in under 12 hours, it's just about the evening out.

The CDF of a single block is basically meaningless unless it gets over 1000% diff ...

The number that miners should be looking at, is the CDF[Erlang] of a range of blocks.
Though I expect that is beyond the level of analysis of this pool
(since they were clearly doing no analysis at all from 2010 to Dec 2015 when that major problem occurred that cost all the miners on this pool a very large amount of BTC)

Luck isn't expected to correct itself, or even itself out, it's simply expected to approach 100%

Thank you for the corrections. I know enough to know you are right, lol.

I was only speaking to the very basic theory of probability.

Congrats on recouping some of your pools hashrate over the past month, if I ever get everything stable again I'll gladly return

Hey there,

Not going to lie, I have not read all 92 pages.

Just wondering does this pool have a ramp up time? I saw the snipit about 5N, just not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things.

I love the idea behind a 1 BTC bounty. Thinking of tossing a a couple Avalons here for a while or at least having this pool as my backup.

Thanks for keeping a small pool alive and an option.

EDIT: Forgot to mention kudos on the website, I didn't know what to expect but it's very nice, especially for a small pool
3939  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 1x Antminer S9 for sale. New in box, in Canada on: January 19, 2018, 06:59:05 AM
OP did send me a link to a picture of the unit in the format requested.

If you are interested in purchasing it, I suggest you do the same.

I am not endorsing the sale, just noting that I received a link to the photo that I wanted.
3940  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB: Any Dead mining equipment Bitmain S7,s9,D3 etc. on: January 19, 2018, 06:10:43 AM
I remember you wanted some gear but I had already sold it. I will reach out to a few people who might have some pieces kicking around.

I'll let you know either way. Good luck.
