401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin High Performance Linux Compilation Guide on: July 20, 2013, 07:41:01 AM
I'm getting this immediately on startup

Quote

EXCEPTION: N5boost21thread_resource_errorE
boost::thread_resource_error
primecoin in AppInit(

Any ideas? Running CentOS here. Bitcoin and Litecoin run fine on the same machine. RAM shouldn't be an issue - have 64GB. The weird thing is it ran fine once - had it going for 3 days straight. I restarted the process today and now getting that error. I tried clearing the ~/.primecoin folder as well.
402  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Any way to sue Mtgox? on: July 17, 2013, 05:13:21 AM
I was in a similar situation and contacted them right after the news broke out, they refunded my account within a day. Not sure what to tell you.
403  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC resale value on: July 08, 2013, 05:29:56 AM
Regardless of rising difficulty, it's inevitable more competitors will enter the market. More saturation of ASICs is going to lower the resale value in a big way. I'd be surprised if an Avalon fetches any more than a few hundred bucks by year's end. Of course that's not a big deal to those that have them now, they have or will reach ROI soon.
404  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 8970 Is Coming on: July 01, 2013, 07:47:17 PM
I plan to buy two of them, but for gaming. If they are still worthwhile to use for mining purposes, well, then that's a bonus.

Uhh, did I step back in time?
406  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt.Gox Co. Ltd approved to be a licensed MSB by FinCEN on: June 30, 2013, 01:32:40 AM
Wait.
An internet form was filled out possibly by MtGox with following address:

Street Address: 615 S Dupont Hwy
City: Dover
State: DELAWARE

MtGox made no official comments.  It may be a prank or a stall tactic.  Am i missing anything (serious question)?
Edit:  Where did the word "approved" in the thread topic come from Huh

Filed 6/29

It is no prank.
407  Economy / Speculation / Re: ...AND THE BOTTOM IS... on: June 29, 2013, 09:34:54 PM
Waaay too many people want to buy for the price to drop below $50. My guess is $70-80 will be the bottom.
408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal on: June 23, 2013, 06:55:08 PM
7990 tahiti (probably malta too? ) second gpu is voltage locked. But, if you set core clock at 700 with cgminer, then is posible lovering voltage to 0.950 (with cgminer). Second gpu always is more hot.

I have a Malta and the second GPU is not voltage locked.
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal on: June 21, 2013, 06:58:32 PM
What's it switch?

You can flash a secondary BIOS, in case something goes wrong you can switch back to the default and re-flash. Failsafe against completely bricking the card basically.
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 7990 - 2nd GPU burning up ... looks abnormal on: June 20, 2013, 11:19:36 PM
Most likely the second core isn't being undervolted. I read before this was a problem with earlier 7990s, and the linked card is one of them. Undervolting both cores works fine on my 7990 but I have the newer Malta revision.

Try disabling ULPS, if you haven't already.

How are you guys undervolting the Maltas?  I have them running stock and they are running at 100C on each card!

HELP.

thanks

MSI Afterburner - using latest version 3.0 beta 10. Undervolted to 1.0v and 950MHz/900MHz clocks mine run around 78C.

412  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Gigabyte 7970 Ghz Edition is bad - What's good? on: June 20, 2013, 09:12:04 PM
One thing people might not have noticed about the GHz cards, is if you reduce the engine clock down to 1000Mhz, the firmware will reduce the core voltage down from 1.256v to 1.2volts. That may help some people with cooling problems.
Ya I was just mapping the defaults out this past week, and here's what I got:

0.85V is anything 450MHz and below
0.90V is 451-600MHz
0.95V is 601-700MHz
1.20V is 701-1000MHz
1.256V is anything 1001MHz and above

I'm running it at 700/550/0.95V cuz I'm sick of the fan noise/heat in my bedroom, and it's almost the same profit (after deducting electric costs). Now obviously if I use MSI AB I can force a voltage, and find a higher clock stable at each setting. For example, my card is stable at 900MHz @ 950mV, which is 200MHz higher than the default 0.95V settings (or 0.25V lower than the default settings for 900MHz, depending on how you're looking at it).

Yeah, if you can undervolt, it's well worth it. My 7990 (essentially 2x7970) does 950 MHz/700MHz at 1.00v. From the stock voltage of 1.17v that's a huge difference, brings temps down by 10C.

Can't believe this guy is still at it.
414  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GTX 780 on: June 15, 2013, 06:55:43 AM
Not sure what people are using. If you don't use CUDAminer, then don't bother.

I can get 220 KH/s out of my gtx 570 when pushing the clocks (no special tweaks). I expect the gtx780 should be between 450-500. The Titan gets about 500-550 with the right miner.

No, the Titan tops out at around 300 MHash, I know because I have one.

GTX 780 is just a cut down version of the Titan on same architecture (GK110), no point wasting your money to bench it.
415  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL rewarding Jalapeno orders at the expense of LS/S/MR orders on: June 06, 2013, 05:03:49 AM
I'm not a fan of BFL but from the way I see it, there was no promise of ROI when you ordered these parts (unless I'm mistaken and BFL did promise this). BFL is only obligated to send you the product you purchased. As long as they aren't adding NEW products into the mix and shipping them before the existing ones I fail to see the issue.

Plus, when it comes to tech there is usually a slow rollout of the entire product line, rarely are all parts available at once (see graphics cards).

Anyone upset about this really should have hedged their bets and ordered different models from BFL's product line just in case.

BFL is doing the only thing that makes sense here. Yeah, it's not an ideal situation but 1) they can't just sit on the Jalapeno units, and 2) I highly doubt they have enough Jalapeno on hand to allow bigger orders to convert. How would that even be done fairly?
416  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How hot do your GPU's run? on: June 03, 2013, 12:07:22 AM
73-74°C at 100% fan speed. Is this risky?

The lifespan of your fans drop dramatically running full tilt like that. I keep my cards around 75%, temp is ~78C. During winter months I get sub 70 C...
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good bye LTC? on: June 01, 2013, 11:29:15 PM
LTC is old. BTC is older. Once upon a time Duke Nukem used to be THE game to play. What was popular last week is often superseded by something better.

Comparing crypto-currency to gaming really  Huh Adoption is what drives these coins, just because they are old means nothing and it's not like improvements can't be worked in.
418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Get Hazard Banned! [POLL] on: June 01, 2013, 06:32:02 AM
ha ha i see this as the engine room , i like that anything fly’s here , it just needed organization.

investors while they can come here ….

don't generally go to the slaughterhouse on the way the their favorite steak house either.

If there was some organization, it'd definitely help. I hate seeing a bunch of giveaway and trading threads for mostly junk coins on page 1 all the time. These have no place among actual discussion threads. It's recently gotten to the point where I don't even bother to browse around here anymore. Don't have the time to sift through it all.

But as you said it's apparently out of the mods' hands which is unfortunate. The community (or at least anyone that's interested in having constructive conversations) is eventually going to wither away, it'll just be a breeding ground for trolls and those hoping to leech BTC from suckers.
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Get Hazard Banned! [POLL] on: June 01, 2013, 05:41:08 AM
I voted no also. He is not breaking rules.  All this is open source.
Its just easy to ignore shit. A lot of you guys are very big babies and cant seems to look past shit. For that I am sorry, life must drive you crazy.

Silencing him or cutting people out from making alts your pretty much going agenst everything bitcoin is about. YOU want to control the markets.

Dont mine shit if you dont like it. Really its not that hard.LTC has its own forums. BTC has its own section. No one makes you come to this part of the forum. No one forces you to buy any of the alts, no of forces you to mine ...

This forum is not bitcoin, there needs to be some moderation to keep things civilized. In my opinion the mods here let too much stuff fly, the other sections on the forum are better managed. It's become almost impossible to have a serious discussion in this forum anymore because there's always so much shit pushing down valid threads.

Hazard is contributing to the problem, even though he may only be a symptom of it, therefore I wouldn't mind him banned. Of course it wouldn't accomplish much - a lot more needs to be done to clean things up here.

So because he is doing something you dont agree with you just ban him?

This might be crude when I say this, but like the way I was treated when I first joined here and asked or wanted to know something:
Use the search function to find what you need to know.

Yeah aint it swell when that gets tossed back at ya?

It's not as straightforward as that, Hazard is deliberately causing chaos on these forums, that is what I don't agree with. I couldn't care less about all the alt coin releases. If this is a joke - he's taken it a little too far.

If everyone on here acted like Hazard there would be no point to this forum at all.
