Is the only benefit of a 7990 space/slots? Because 7970s are $400. Am I missing something?

Also, why the hell are 5970s so expensive?

Right. The 7990 is hard to justify at $1k even when you factor in the slot savings. From all reviews I've read it also seems to perform similarly to 2x7950 as well.

If each 7990 is $400, this is $1000 and includes $300 of games, is twice as dense and will hold price better then.....

You won't get $300 for the included games, most of them are old and only worth $5-10. $100 best case.

Seeing as it performs similar to 2x7950 in gaming which only cost around $280-300 each I don't think it will hold its price well. Initially it will just because AMD said stock will be limited.

Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Farcry 3, all old games ofc...

I have both 2x7950 and 2x7990s. They perform like mid range 7970s in terms of overclocking rage [still im UNDERVOLTING]. It helps to actually have some evidence for what you are saying, helps prevent being wrong.

I'm well aware of what I'm saying.

Let me break it down for you.

Crysis = $25
Bioshock = $25
Far Cry 3 = $20
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon = $10
Hitman: Absolution = $10
Sleeping Dogs = $10
Deus Ex: Human Revolution = $10

Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex are all old and have poor resale value as a result. That's nowhere near the $300 you quoted. You can buy 3x 7950s for the price and get 3 copies of Crysis and BioShock, which will net more return than the other games included with the 7990.

As I said the GAMING performance of the 7990 is similar to 2x-7950 going by the recent round of benchmarks. I do not know if this will be the case for mining -- haven't seen anyone bench the Malta cards under mining conditions. Still, as resale value of a card largely hinges on what gamers will pay for it later on, that's something to consider.

I sold all mine earlier today for btc and dvc. Don't know why it rallied, that news was already known and (should have been) in the price. Think it will gradually fall back to around 22 unless gox implements it soon. If it doesn't then I'm obviously wrong.

It was already known  but a lot of people took it as rumor for some reason (silly since even MagicalTux himself confirmed it on IRC).

ATTENTION INVESTORS:

Important legal notice, you must reply to this thread in our forums to get paid: http://yourcoins.org/forums/index.php?threads/legal-notice.23/.

If you do not like the terms, then I will refund your BTC back, or please seek someone to sell your shares to.

This is only to cover my butt in case something happens that is out of my control.

I hope you guys understand, I will soon be dealing with a lot of money and I can't be held liable for ANYTHING THAT IS OUT OF MY CONTROL.

Thanks,

Ch

I read the terms and I agree but I have been having loading issues with that damn forum (painfully slow). It happens almost every time I want to log in.

Hmm, loads super fast here and no one else has reported speed issues so likely on your end. If you're outside of the US/EU that could be why, otherwise probably an ISP issue...

Great to see an official statement regarding this, finally put all the rumor talk to rest.
807  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon 7990 vs 7990 Malta on: April 24, 2013, 10:45:24 PM
Man, what a disappointment. I can't believe they priced the card at $1k, that's more than the custom 7990s and it's been over a year since the 7970 release. Moreover performance seems similar to 2x7950 even though specs match the 7970 apart from a 50MHz drop in clock speed, quite odd... must be some kind of internal power limitation kicking in which isn't good if you intend to use this card for mining.
808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New users, avoid using https://btc-e.com/ on: April 24, 2013, 10:35:37 PM
I've had no problems with BTC-E. Stay away from clicking any links in the trollbox though, users often link to sites ridden with Java exploits and other nasty stuff - pretty sure that's how at least a few users got compromised. There have been rumors that the site itself was broken into but I haven't seen anything to substantiate those claims. At any rate, I don't leave large amounts of funds sitting around on any exchange, doesn't matter which one. There's always a risk.

810  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC - Unit in Hand on: April 22, 2013, 03:01:55 AM
I suggest you rethink your risk assessment. The difficulty could double in a month even without BFL. There's Avalon batch 2 & 3 on the way, additional ASICMiner deployments, and Avalon bulk chip orders due by August.

This unit will definitely not make back the 410 BTC. USD? Maybe, but that's still a big gamble. If you strongly feel the exchange rate is going to go up it's better to just buy Bitcoins right now, in my opinion.

"Within months" is an incredibly optimistic time frame. You will be lucky to break even in a year in USD.

Good luck with your group buy anyway.

812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My humble attempt to short ltc on: April 21, 2013, 06:39:22 AM
So you are also expecting BTC to go down? If BTC rises to $150, or $200 again we'll see LTC at $3-4 without a doubt.

The value swings of both are closely tied. Perhaps that will change once Gox starts trading LTC.

Right now I feel it isn't a bad time to sell, but not a good time either. Market could easily go either way.

Ha, looks like someone already beat me. Guess it doesn't hurt to have more than one, though, here's my faucet:

Still making some tweaks to the layout.

Can I have your FC address? I will send you 1000 FC personally Smiley

Thanks, much appreciated Smiley

With the possibility of BFL actually shipping these may never make their BTC back. Even then, it's a stretch since Avalon is deploying more chips.
816  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Put the GOX price on a webpage (X) 1.06? on: April 19, 2013, 10:50:40 PM
Scraping the HTML code is really inefficient, Mt Gox has a JSON API:

http://data.mtgox.com/api/1/BTCUSD/ticker

Just decode the JSON and grab your desired value.
817  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: EBay listing: AMD Radeon 7990 Malta Engineering Sample on: April 19, 2013, 08:37:12 PM
I have been trying two of this cards and I only have achieved to 800 khs/s for LTC and 1200 MHs/s for BTC. The BTC performance is pretty good, but with the fact of ASICs coming and the low performance for LTC (one 5850 get 300 Khs/s and cost is around 100 € on eBay) it seems to be competely useless for 895 € each.

Has anyone achieve more than 800 Khs/s???

Note: The PC config was a AMD 1045T (six core) with 12 GB RAM.

The card linked above isn't out yet, presumably you have the old 7990. The new one has higher clocks and will bring efficiency improvements due to better binned chips.

819  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon 7990 vs 7990 Malta on: April 19, 2013, 06:48:06 PM
Malta is a reference 7990 designed by AMD, the others were custom made chips by AIBs.

TDP should be around 375W, same as the 6990. No performance benches have surfaced yet but it should perform similar to two 7970 while pulling considerably less wattage.

I'm so tired of seeing that chart.

$10? We're probably due for a correction after this rise but it won't be hitting anywhere near that.
