902  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: AMD HD 7000 should be announced June 13 on: July 10, 2011, 09:03:11 PM
Why so soon?

The current 6000 generation plays all today and future games just fine.

no not really. 2560x1600 maxed in Crysis 2 DX11 destroys a 6970x2 setup.
903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who is mining namecoins and why? on: July 08, 2011, 09:14:50 PM
Maybe their logic is that, since NMC is easier to mine and provided the value goes up over long term, they'll make more BTC. That's risky though...
904  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5830 x 4 Mining Rig, When to call it quits? on: June 29, 2011, 08:04:37 PM
No way a 800w will handle 4x5830

5830s take up 188w each about, OC'd they can take up 250w

Even 3 will be cutting it close OC'd but will be alright so as long as you aren't running anything else high power.

For 4 I would get at least a 1000w PSU. I'd go with a 1200w just to have more headroom personally.
905  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Why don't pools pay out the full BTC amount? on: June 26, 2011, 12:27:12 AM
The only pool I've used that pays out the full amount of BTC is Swepool. Other pools like Deepbit will only pay out a portion.

For example, if you had 1.79658246 in your Slush balance, you would only receive 1.79 BTC. Only Swepool pays out the full amount so that your remaining balance is 0 BTC.

Because anyone using the default wallet will lose out on the change, as it doesn't take sub-cents.
This. Not everyone has upgraded, and it would suck to lose up to 20 cents for no good reason.

Could be wrong, but I don't think you actually lose the money. The client just can't "see" it. So if you upgraded to the latest you'd be able to see your full balance.
906  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: To people who are technically versed: Will the HD 7xxx series be good at mining? on: June 24, 2011, 05:40:19 PM
The particulars on AMD's next gen GPU are still unknown, so, any opinion on whether it'll be good at mining is just speculation.
907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGOX Launch . . . postponed on: June 24, 2011, 02:56:06 AM
I still don't understand with the financial resources they have, they insist on running it like amateurs.  I think Tux needs to cash out his coins and just let a professional run it for him.

Mtgox is a peanut compared to Sony, and look how they handled the PSN fiasco...
908  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 6990 in stock here: on: June 23, 2011, 04:48:05 PM
I have a feeling that if i purchases 6990s instead of other cards.. i would mine with them for a while and
just when I wanted to sell them 7xxx would come out and the high end gamers would have no interest in
them especially if they blow them out of the water for a certain price point.

the cost per mh/s just does not make sense to me. but perhaps a spread sheet analysis now days might show
a different trend.

btw.. out of stock. lol.

Dual gpu on a single PCB cards do not have a good resale value. MOST gamers just get 2 or 3 cards. I had to sell my 5970 for just $300  before the bitcoin craze took off.
909  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is Antec 380 PSU enough for a Radeon 6950? on: June 23, 2011, 02:48:29 AM
Does it have two 6 pin PCI-E connectors? I can't imagine an old PSU like that would.
910  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [Poll] What temperature do you keep your GPU? on: June 21, 2011, 06:17:59 AM
6970 runs around 90 C, fan speed auto

5830 79 C, fan speed 70

I'm a bit concerned about the 6970 temp but well it's on auto and not OC'ed or anything. If it breaks I have a lifetime warranty with XFX.

Cool, thanks Smiley
912  Other / Beginners & Help / Do I need a dummy plug? on: June 18, 2011, 07:46:35 PM
Hey,

So I just ordered a 5830 to go alongside my 6970... I heard Windows won't recognize it unless it's connected to another monitor.

Stupid question, but does it need to be a VGA/DVI connection? The card has HDMI out so I can just hook it up to my TV that way. Would that work?
913  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm all ready to start mining! on: June 16, 2011, 06:50:37 PM
Holy crap  Shocked That's a lot of 5770s there.
914  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: June 16, 2011, 06:48:39 PM
I've been mining for a month. 6970 and a 5830 pushing around 650MHash/s
915  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dual 6950's on: June 16, 2011, 06:46:08 PM
Well, depending on how fast the difficulty ramps up, it may take you awhile to break even. At least 2 months or more.
916  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CPU Mining -- Is this even worth it?? on: June 16, 2011, 06:40:15 PM
CPU mining isn't worth it, unless you have access to free power.
917  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 16, 2011, 08:34:32 AM
Hi, I'd like to be added on the whitelist.

I've just compiled pushpool on CentOS, however it's hanging on launch and I'm at a loss as to why. Would like to ask in the dev forums if anyone ran into a similar issue.
