461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CNC - When is the diff reset, are devs alive etc? on: May 25, 2013, 12:19:24 AM
The devs cashed out and are sitting on a beach in Hawaii at this very moment.

So...

* Clone
* Bad pool
* Premined
* Instamined
* No github diff.
* Bad dependencies.

Have fun.

add no connections to the list, only manual nodes lol.

so, superfail like elacoin ? add it as dead?

Yea, this one is DOA I'd say.

So why not implement ascending block rewards like Nibble and DigitalCoin? With the way this launched majority of coins are in the hands of the people that jumped on in the first 5 mins before difficulty skyrocketed.
464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Abort Cryptsy on: May 24, 2013, 09:42:31 PM
You are forgetting a lot more miners are jumping on these coins lately as well. Most of them don't care if they sell their coins for a pittance, so long as the effective profitability is higher than mining LTC/BTC. That in itself is a huge reason why prices are dropping.
465  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Abort Cryptsy on: May 24, 2013, 08:59:47 PM
Plus running a pool is not a cakewalk. Sure it's easy to set one up but with the way pools get DDoSed here upkeep and mitigation is costly. If you think pool ops are raking in the $$$$ you are wrong, maybe a few big ones are like BTCGuild but it took them years to get there.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Abort Cryptsy on: May 24, 2013, 08:38:18 PM
No altcoin was killed, only value dropped.

This. The only thing about Cryptsy  is it's been adding new alts faster than other exchanges, so these new coins have even less time to build up interest before they get pumped and dumped on an exchange. Thus, the downward spiral just starts up quicker. That's not a fault of the site though. It's a free market - if these coins can't withstand that then too bad.

Long-term, if the coin has actual merit, it will survive.

Posts a virus on forums, then says his account was hacked 5 mins later, riiiight.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good job killing DGC / on: May 23, 2013, 10:19:31 PM
How many crypto coins have disappeared from exchanges?

BTC-E has removed quite a few... RUCoin, FBX, TBX, GeistGeld, I0C, CLC, DVC, IXC. There may be others I've missed.
469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good job killing DGC / on: May 23, 2013, 09:29:10 PM
Market is getting diluted. Every pump and dump since Feathercoin has finished off quicker than the last. Development continuing on past the selloff phase is what will determne is a coin has potential staying power.
470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The ASIC device scams are getting a little fancier. on: May 23, 2013, 06:54:52 PM
Where did you even find this? Just curious.
471  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox: Unauthorized withdrawal - someone just stole some of my Bitcoins! on: May 23, 2013, 06:13:36 PM
If the password was really complex I would say you probably got hit some Java exploit or other virus, better scan your computer.
472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WorldCoin Seen as a Threat? on: May 23, 2013, 02:37:51 AM
There was a minor split at a pool, big deal.
Only one, considering this coin is like a week old, that's not bad with such transaction times Smiley

I agree with OP; I find it weird that this coin is trolled at so much, especially at mcxnow (its biggest exchange)

Well, let's see what the future holds; wouldn't be surprised if it survives this early stage Smiley

its trolled by the same faggot pump and dumpers, because WDC had an actual successful launch, granted its problem in the beginnings from botnets. It's level of professionalism fucked it up for all the CNC scam coins. Long gone are the days when a coin can launch on a random Chinese website, then come and post here already launched and mined, have no dev support and go to exchanges and get dumped.

These assholes are just mad that now they have to actually do a little bit of more work, so the trolling commences, then there are just losers who hate their own lives and just hate on anything. These same people probably hated on bitcoin, and litecoin when they first came out, as it will never work, that's impossible.

Haters gonna Hate

To be fair that only happened once... with CNC. You make it sound like we've had dozens of coins like that lately.

As for the OP, this is nothing new. Nearly all of the alts released recently have been getting attacked, did you miss the BitBar drama? WorldCoin is just in the spotlight right now.
473  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PSA: Malta 7990s are NOT suitable for mining! on: May 23, 2013, 01:57:04 AM
mine is voltage unlocked, you have to have the ati.dll to do extreme overclocking...its in another thread.

the dll is atipdlxx.dll  and you ahve to put it in   C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner

and you have to modify MSIAfterburner.cfg in that very same folder.   delete everything in the profiles sub-directory.

Ah thanks, I'll try this Smiley

I picked up one of these for my gaming rig yesterday with no real intention of mining on it (live in AZ and it's way too hot here during the summer) but I tried anyway to get some results.

Ran for 2 hours. With scrypt mining, straight out of the box using the same config I used for 7950s I was getting 1.3 MH/s, this is at 1000 MHz core and 1500 memory, all defaults - 0% PowerTune. Completely stable. I don't know if the pool I use is running better or what but I was getting less than 0.05% rejects on shares which is impressive, my 7950s often hovered around 2%.

Temps were somewhat high, around 86-87 C though bare in mind the room temp was 81 F and I was running it inside of a case.

Interestingly, if I knocked PowerTune down to -20% I still was able to get 1.05 MH/s from the card! This surprised me. With PowerTune at -20% temps hovered around 78C.

I'd imagine these figures would be a lot more reasonable at a lower room temp.

Price-wise, the card isn't a great value, if you sel' the games you're looking at $850 out of pocket, where as you could probably get 2x7970 for around $700 after selling the games, but it is an option if you are low on slots. Also resale value may hold better if AMD's previous dual GPU cards are any indication.

Didn't get to play around with the voltage to see how low I could go, seems MSI Afterburner doesn't support it on these yet?

475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So what happened with all the "belief" in WDC? on: May 23, 2013, 12:00:04 AM

What Litecoin did was find markets so you can buy and sell with it. That is why it is worth so much compared to all the other Alt-coins and that is why BTC is still worth more then LTC it has a larger marketplace from which to spend your coins.

Everyone seems to be fixated on the technical aspects of the coins but this isn't what is ultimately going to provide lasting value to them. They need to have markets other then just being traded for other crypto-currencies. If that is all they are good for they are speculative value only and their value will go poof as soon as the speculators move onto something new.

You are right, but in the early stages a huge reason people mined Litecoin was because it was ASIC-resistant. If Litecoin was another SHA-256 coin I don't think it would be where it is today.

Aside from only adding or changing trivial things, the problem with these new coins is they are based on the same code as Litecoin, and being scrypt, as soon as they aren't profitable anymore miners go straight back to LTC.

LTC didn't have to deal with this problem because it was one of the first scrypt coins. And also, there weren't clones being released daily back then. That alone allowed it to grow more naturally like Bitcoin. My point is it is very hard for a lot of these coins to co-exist with LTC around, you will have a very hard time convincing miners to adopt your coin just by changing some parameters around. Simply having faster transaction speeds isn't enough.

Merchants won't adopt a coin on the basis of transaction speeds alone either. I would be extremely skeptical of the security in WDC if only a  small %  of miners are backing it. I have seen people on here say miners don't matter, which is just ridiculous... in order to prevent attacks you need a large amount of STABLE hash power. Both Bitcoin and Litecoin had a huge amount of miners on-board before anyone started using it in markets.

Sold modcom 1K FTC for LTC. Transaction went smooth, I'd definitely do business with him again Smiley
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WDC price speculation thread on: May 22, 2013, 04:11:51 PM
Even though Litecoin wasn't the first to scrypt it was the first with a proper launch.

So sure, the devs didn't innovate on a technical level but they brought the first scrypt coin with actual staying power, I think that is huge. For all we know, if Litecoin never took off we'd be stuck with more SHA-256 coins.

None of these other coins really stand to make the same impact, except maybe YAC but it had a terrible launch and I'm expecting something to replace it eventually.
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WDC price speculation thread on: May 22, 2013, 03:32:15 PM
0.000000

Other than "It's faster than LTC!!!" does this coin actually bring any interesting and worthwhile changes to the table? If not, I see no reason it should be worth any more than any other copy-and-paste altchain.

Which interesting and worthwhile change did LTC bring to the table?

The addition of scrypt was huge - and considering all these other coins are basing their code off the Litecoin codebase and not Bitcoin I think that speaks for itself...

Oh the old 'lets sell coins to eachother publicly at inflated prices so that people think it's worth something' Game. Well played sirs!

You would never do it, I know

480  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: * * BitBar logo & banner contest OPEN TILL END MAY * * 1 BTC & 3 BTB bounty on: May 22, 2013, 05:02:56 AM
Just trying out some different ideas here. I think an important part is to keep the logo minimalistic and very legible.

I like the one at the top right. Simple and effective. Also very adaptable which is important for a logo. This is my personal favorite so far.
