Just donated. Can't help with the flag though.

Would it have to be special material to survive the extreme cold?

Hell, I don't know! Guess I'll have to Google it. It probably has to be silk, standard flag material if I'm not mistaken.

$1,000 now.

I can hand make a flag and go to fed-ex Monday but there have got to be better options.

I'm not sure it would get there in time.

He leaves from Chile?

Who do we know in Chile?

Note to self: Never take a trip with Goat. First he wants to go to the South Pole in the winter, now believes the expedition starts in Chile.

Quote
Having planted his native Valencia’s flag, and a French Tricolor at the north pole, he now expects to do the same at the South, leaving from Cape Town on November 5th and crossing Antarctica to arrive in Chile 80 days later.

To be fair, so did I. Imagine Goat and I on a road trip?

He also says if Hanneche manages to raise more than 15 BTC, he will carry a bitcoin flag with him, if one can be made before his departure from South Africa on November 5th.

Just reread the article, and it looks like ~$3,000 USD is needed for him to haul a flag to the South Pole. If that's the case, then we're ~$1K USD short, but seriously don't see a problem with that goal being reached.

Having a flag shipped in time is probably not too much of an issue if only WE HAVE A BITCOIN FLAG. I'm covering the cost of shipping. If a flag maker needs funded, then that shouldn't be too much of a problem either.

Boy, if I could pull getting a Bitcoin flag in his hands for the South Pole off, I would then truly earn my self-proclaimed moniker as The Most Interesting Bitcoiner in the World (TMIBITW).

I'm paying all expedient shipping cost to Chile if a flag can be procured.

NEED FLAG!

god damn what a bullish week, first the moon and now bitcoins on the poles, what is next?

Somehow I missed the moon article, but we know that Mars is out since it turned into a comet.

Looks like only ~$600 USD short, but truly feel it'll make it: https://blockchain.info/address/1Gt1anYr6gEuiNgacFouhy4RUNQFH3YY9Y

Apologies for the cross post from the other thread:

Yeah me too. Ill send him a btc.

edit 1 btc sent.

also he only needs 5 more, im sure we can get this done!

Believe I just saw it hit, Goat.

I'm committed to paying for standard expedient shipping cost to get a flag in his hands before the deadline. If we had a design and know the size and of what material it should be made of, we can get Jason King of Sean's Outpost to embroidery one.

I see no problem with the required funds being raised, ergo we need to concentrate on getting a Bitcoin flag in his hands ASAP.

Any suggestions? If there's an appropriate flag available, I will pay all shipping cost to make sure it gets there in time.

Find a flag.

Agree on the flag.

Entity that has flag and ships it will be reimbursed by me via bitcoins or cc. It MUST be expedient shipping regardless of the cost (within reason, for I don't want to pay for a chartered jet to deliver a flag)

Somebody just donated ~$400 USD: https://blockchain.info/tx/634322904a71c71b6c86278f06bb04a0412d481dce9355cfc4a9edd93259e66d

I seriously see this getting funding without much effort, with me only probably playing a minor role now.

But there's still the issue of getting a Bitcoin flag in his hands.

Options?

Ideally, I would have loved the Bitcoin 100 to help fill the request, but now because of time constraint, among other factors, albeit an argument could be had, that's probably no longer possible, hence reaching out to the community, specifically to those with deeper pockets.

Thorkil Værge, head of Sirius Money, has pledged €1,000 (6.8 BTC) to Hanneche, who is undertaking the challenge to travel alone to both poles in a single year. He also says if Hanneche manages to raise more than 15 BTC, he will carry a bitcoin flag with him, if one can be made before his departure from South Africa on November 5th.

Thorkil Værge first mentioned the South Pole expediton here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=317249

While penning this post, I just so happened to have https://blockchain.info/address/1Gt1anYr6gEuiNgacFouhy4RUNQFH3YY9Y opened on another tab, and people ARE currently donating.

Please note in the last quote above that there's a request for a Bitcoin flag. It would be totally amazing if we could pull this outta our ass.

Wait what?

Surely, you've heard of Bitcoin Jesus and Bitcoin Moses. Well, I'm TMIBITW (self annointed). Some day, in your lifetime, all three will be together for a photoshoot provided, of course, such an event is photographable.

To prove that I'm TMIBITW, I offer up the following:

I once saved a bar full of patrons from being eaten by a 750 lb bear, by single-handedly wrestling it to the ground so that another person was able to put a collar and chain on it, whereupon I walked it 100 miles and released it back into the wild.

I once donned one of genjix's dresses and went undercover as Rassah's mother to round up all the zombies and vampires.

I once baked a cake.

I once captured all of NSA's spying pigeons, sans one, but no need to worry about that one and the message it was carrying, for I personally saw it swan dive into a chimney. To this day the NSA hasn't a clue as to whom truly accomplished said act, for I was disguised as Amir Taaki donning a beard.

I once brokered a deal with a recently unknown tribe to build a casino on their sovereign land. As a gift, I was presented with their last remaining virgin to do with her as I wish. And I did! I still recall her crying each and everything she came, sometimes two dozen or more times a night. She used to asked me when would it end, whereupon I replied, "In two weeks." Sadly, she started crying upon hearing that reply, but not with tears of ecstasy, for she never wanted it to end.

I steal barn wood--at night.

I don't normally brag about being TMIBITW, but when I do, I start a thread and show proof.

First off, I wish to thank the following who took the time to create, then submit at least one logo suggested for Bruno's Micro Pizzeria's website.

cryptasm <Donated $5.00 via BTC to Sean's Outpost per requested>

TheNewAnon135246 <Paid $5.00 via BTC>

Mjbmonetarymetals <Paid $25.00 via BTC>

0nlyBTC

bits4books <Paid $50.00 via BTC>

myrtle90

The winning logo is...

...submitted by bits4books, and will receive $50 USD via BTC.

I also like...

...Mjbmonetarymetals' submission, of which will receive $25 USD via BTC, for I may do something with the nicely done caricature.

Since I'm a fair guy, all other submitters listed above will receive $5 USD via BTC, regardless of how many ideas they submitted, for a grand total of $95 USD via BTC to be paid out.

Would you guys listed above be so kind as to PM me your Bitcoin wallet address so that I can pay you? After 24 hours, those of whom have not yet contacted me, I will PM them to request said addresses. The only reason I'm not PMing first is that I don't feel like it. You see, I ate a 4 lb meal earlier and about to slice into a raspberry and blueberry (combined) pie.

I hope that bits4books is up to the challenge to tweak the winning logo, for it's so close.

Now, if you excuse me, I have a pie to cut into.

~TMIBITW

PS: Thanks again to all those who submitted, along with all those who submitted humorous posts--except edd.  Grin
