You draw a parallel to referral spam... this is different.  Referrals are all one and the same, they aren't games with different rules and they certainly don't need any discussion.  When someone posts a referral thread, they are saying, "Please sign up under me" and nothing else, and no one can really say much about a referral link, so referral threads would always end up with 0 replies, which is why they don't deserve separate threads.  For games, there really is a reason to allow separate threads because the game rules can be critiqued, the games are different in their rules unlike tradehill referrals and people can actually discuss the games... (f.e. "I'm in for 5," or "I'm botting this one," or "Why the hell do you have a 10% fee?" or "If you make this a daily series I'd contribute to it.")

If you care so much about spam and valueless posts, how come the BCX/CoinHunter spat was allowed to occupy 50% of the altcoin forums with stuff like "COINHUNTER DOXXED?"  I think my games provide more value than those posts, and just about anyone would agree with me.

You say that this forum is designed to introduce people to bitcoin sites but all I see is a forum that discusses bitcoin in general and everything related to it, even altcoins... If this forum were really for "introducing people to sites" we'd just have one big fat forum with site threads and no subforums.

Admins,

I've kept this to myself for awhile, but seeing this thread has brought up a well of emotion that I held back from when I was running what was arguably the most rapidly profitable and successful site that "Gambling" has ever seen.

You were 100% WRONG to restrict Bitcoinduit games to one thread. You PM'd me and seemingly missed the forest for the trees. Not only was I not running any of the rounds on Bitcoinduit, I was also not advertising any of the games. Every thread was by a different individual, newly empowered to run their own Game / Gambling 'site' using the Bitcoinduit platform.

Fact is, you got complaints from others who were upset that their silly ass little sites weren't getting the traffic that they felt they deserved. Instead of using logic and the principles of free markets, you quashed THE only successful Bitcoin game in its youth.

You were so completely and utterly wrong to do what you did, and look how well that's worked. Poker sites, Lotto sites, Bla bla bla. None of them have ever achieved the level of community involvement and play that Bitcoinduit had before you decided that it was time to stop a successful entry in its tracks.

Boo hoo, all of you silly wanna be Gambling site operators. Guess what? Your sites suck. You haven't invented anything new, and no amount of pressure on the Moderators of this or other forums will help you to achieve greatness. Instead, continue bashing each other (like you do at every turn) and alienating your players.

TL;DR

Bitcoinduit hosted games threads should never have been killed. It was a moronic decision based on trying to keep a few blowhard Gambling site owners happy. Most of them aren't even here anymore.

-Jonathan

p.s. Lift your restriction and watch what happens.

This.  + 9001.
It's sort of ridiculous to say that the spreadsheet spam you used to see in the gambling forums was OK because it wasn't one site, but now that a ponzi site replaces that you say everything related to it is spam.

This thread is just amazing.  It depicts everything WRONG with bitcoin right now.
> The attitude that bitcoin is an investment rather than a money/currency/store of value/whatever you want to call it
> The Ponzi scheme attitude of trying to attract suckers
> The ever-decreasing "We'll all buy back in here!!!" prices

some years ago invstors were buying Chinese yuan's as an investment vehicle... just because you call it a currency dosn't mean poeple see it as an investment

bitcoin have proven it self to not be a Ponzi scheme... your the sucker for thinking promoting bitcoin is a  " Ponzi scheme attitude " ... actually your an idiot

everyone is waiting for new lows to buy back... you can feel everyone holding themselves back from buying ever-time theirs a good swing down...

we are hours away from a sudden reversal! can you take the heat?

Roll Eyes
I know bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme.
You, however, are treating it like one when you go out and tell people "look, this investment lost 90% of its value but you can get in for cheap RIGHT NOW!"  How about you tell them about the benefits of being independent of the government or small fees or some of the ACTUAL BENEFITS?  You're giving a bad name to bitcoin because these people will come and look at the charts and call you an idiot.
Yeah, people are holding back... and the reversal is coming but not now.  People like you forecasted lows at $20 all the way down to $3 and none of those ever proved to be permanent.
Can I take the heat?  I'm short about 100 bitcoins on bitcoinica.
edit: Just reread your post.  "Promise to DOUBLE THEIR INVESTMENT!"  If you're going to tell them that, might as well tell them to come to Bitcoinduit Grin

I honestly think you guys don't remember how bad things got. Almost every thread on the first page was Bitcoinduit, and most of them had only one or two posts.

I don't think we'll be seeing that kind of spam these days.  Bitcoinduit is essentially dead and Bitponzi is not very well-maintained.  If it gets really bad (and I doubt it will) we could always change the policy back.
You said it yourself that it was this forum policy that killed Bitcoinduit. It stands to reason that removing the policy will revive the site, bringing the spam back in full-force.

I believe that a lot of people have left the gambling community since then... so this measure would help liven up Bitcoinduit but would not bring it back to the level it was in August.

Though I am (was) BitPonzi's competitor, I hope mb300sd does well in the future.  He put a lot of time into this site, and I've earned a lot of btc from that, so thank you mb300sd.
3197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Total Bitcoin Economy : $19,120,511.48 on: October 17, 2011, 03:34:02 PM
The real value of bitcoins has been increasing all along.  The speculative bubble has burst, yes.  At the height of the bubble who was talking about innovation?  The only innovation I saw was ASICs for faster mining... to make more profit, not to build an economy.  Now what do we have?  People are reaching out to OWS, to the FSP, making conferences, making businesses out of ideas, etc.  The economy is much healthier, even if the outlook is less optimistic, than it was in March or April.

3199  Economy / Speculation / Re: $3.68 is the new $4. on: October 17, 2011, 03:22:23 AM
Nah.  I kissed the money goodbye already.  I started in in the $16 range (on the way down) so my losses are way more significant than I could hope to recoup by winning a few coins here and there.  At this point it's a long term (and long odds) bet that over time the blockchain will end up having some value, and if so, I will have gotten a chunk of it before it while it is lawful to do so.

This makes no sense.  Dumping and buying lower can absolutely dig you out of that hole.  Don't do the entire position at once, of course.  If you kissed the money goodbye this could be your opportunity to learn to trade on the cheap.  At the very least it might give you the instincts to avoid doing the same in the future, with amounts of money that matter.

If you buy at 16, sell at 3 and buy back in at 1 you'll have 3x as many coins playing the long odds.  I'm not saying that WILL happen, but why not trade a portion of your position?

I am no trader.  I am quite certain that I would lose my ass so fast that it wouldn't be funny if I got into trading, and it would irk me to be paying the commissions to boot.  I don't particularly want to learn to trade even if it were possible that I could (unless I got into trying to program trading bots for the fun and challenge of it.)  I've had generally good luck and a lot less stress just buying something I think is undervalued and sitting on it, but by nature I tend to look at least several years out.

Well, programming trading bots is very fun, so you could do that.  Also why wouldn't you care about your investment into bitcoin?  I'd try to protect it if it were a big one.  You won't lose too much of your ass if you are careful with stop losses.
3200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PonziCoin (3 letter name is SHT)! Sponsored by Bitcoinduit on: October 17, 2011, 02:43:07 AM
So what happens after all the blocks are done?  No blocks means no transfers, generally speaking.
Or does the reward just drop to something like 1 coin?

I increase the difficulty to some huge number.  Transfers aren't necessary because it would've ended, so you'd cash out by taking up the freeroll offers.  I guess SHT isn't completely silly.  One side effect would be taking a look at the effect of actual backing on exchange rate.

I'm a bit reluctant to do this now, actually... too many losses incurred by running Bitcoinduit.

You guys still interested? I think it's a fun idea.
