2965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Observation: Hash rate growing again on: November 03, 2011, 04:58:54 AM
Anyone notice that the hash rate slope is strangely positive recently?  Difficulty is projected to go up and we reached 1% hashrate growth for the first time since August!

Newbies should read faq and guides before opening threads...

They should.  That doesn't mean they will.  If they don't, do we simply exclude them from Bitcoin?
Interest in BTC is dropping in the outside world... and what are we doing about it?!

2968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legality of selling sexual items online (Age verification with Bitcoins) on: November 02, 2011, 09:27:14 PM
It's impossible to prove for sure that anyone is 18+ using Bitcoins... so if it's illegal to sell adult items to minors, I don't think your site would be legal. :\
2969  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITCOINDUIT --- New features added! on: November 02, 2011, 09:23:52 PM
We've changed the expiration after 10 deposits rule to 24 hours.  Hopefully whoever made "expiration rule sucks" will be happy.

yeah sorry about that, that was me, I was just frustrated after it wouldn't let me do a 24h/1% decay round since rip_bitponzi was so successful I wanted to make another one with similar settings.

feel free to change the name of that round if you want to

Heh, I didn't change it, it's OK.

edit: Want a 1 BTC freeroll? nobody's taken it today.

Yes, you're free to say it.  Doesn't mean we should be doing so.
This thread is not an attempt to get the mods to ban/kick people who post such replies.
Not all people who we want using Bitcoin are active forum members!  If you want people adopting the technology, you have to be friendlier.

In that thread, a noob asked a rather stupid, trivial question.  kokjo immediately responded with this:

Quote
Hello all I am new to Bit Coins, needing some urgent help on how to use them!?
FUCK YOU! (ask smart questions please: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html)

Quote
I have a registered Mt.Gox account, added funds, bought some Bit Coins but now what?
good for you! but i don't know, that answer to your question!

Quote
I am trying to transfer my Bit Coins funds from Mt.Gox into my shopping account for a "Store (SR)" how do i do that?
SR = silkroad. don't buy drugs, not with bitcoins or any kind money.

Awesome! "Fuck you!" is sure to bring more people to Bitcoin!
Was the question easily answerable by FAQs? Yes, of course.  Did a thread need to be posted about it? No.

However, would a good customer service rep handle that question that way!?  Is this approach likely to help bring "normal people" (aka grandmas) to the Bitcoin community?  Even though the question is stupid, we can't brush off every stupid question like that.  It's rude and the "customer" will leave.

I suspect our internet-forum approach to "customer service" isn't helping Bitcoin growth at all.  Although this forum is not official and is also not a customer service page, it's really the only place some people know about where they can ask questions.  Let's all be more polite and welcoming.
2975  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: November 02, 2011, 02:46:32 PM
notice the bid wall sliding to the right closer to the price.  it WANTS to be hit by the shorts.

where's BitMagic when we need him?

Someone posted a great chart comparing troll activity (measured by Nagle's posting volume) vs price.  Every time it goes up they go away, it seems.
2976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Requiring Bit Coin Help urgently! on: November 02, 2011, 02:01:52 PM
I'm not sure how Silk Road works, but when they give you a receiving address, you can withdraw your btc from mtgox into that address and you're done.
2977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: November 02, 2011, 01:58:07 PM
as i warned, i think we're going up Boys.

Here we go again Grin
2978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: The tragic tale of forgetting which long password phrase belongs to which wallet on: November 02, 2011, 04:48:06 AM
i wonder how many people out there actually use correct horse battery staple as their passphrase.

No one reading XKCD is dumb enough to copy that passphrase...
..right!? lol
