2761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica New Version Launched Today! on: November 29, 2011, 10:02:02 PM
I was just using the loophole I mentioned in the first page. I leveraged a small amount of money at 10:1 ( about $10) buying at 2.7. Then I switched the account over to 1:1 and withdrew about half of it to go into another account to leverage at 10:1 again. Except it got frozen when I withdrew it and that money is still frozen now. Luckily the first position paid off before it went to liquidation world.

But why on earth would you leverage to 200:1 on BITCOIN of all things?! crazy Grin
2762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica New Version Launched Today! on: November 29, 2011, 09:38:06 PM
Your withdrawal request was received when we run out of limits at Mt. Gox.
MtGox limits you in how much money you can transfer TO them?
So I can assume this is not a one-time-only hold-up and it is likely to happen again?
I'm glad you are trying to solve this issue, but it's been 6 hours now and I still cannot access my assets on your platform.

It's been 9 hours and I'm starting to lose my patience, because during that time the price was fluctuating quite a bit (2.65 - 2.98). I'm losing money here guys, can you please do something about it? Can't you cancel the withdrawal request so I can trade at least on Bitcoinica?

I agree, the "pending manual approval" is terrible. If I can't move my money, at least let me keep it. Now it is basically trapped, the worst of both worlds, and it means I have to keep checking in to see if a redeem code is available.

I've got an account leveraged way over 10:1 now and I missed the chance to use that money to buy at the price I wanted and I now I also can't get the money back into my account. If I get liquidated because of this pending approval issue I will be super pissed.

Most of my movements are between various Bitcoinica accounts. How about an internal system of transfer?

About liquidation: Bitcoinica once caused a small loss for me due to not withdrawing quickly enough.  I opened a support ticket and zhoutong refunded it!  One thing you cannot criticize about Bitcoinica is their customer service.   Smiley

edit: You got leverage OVER 10:1?  How high!?
2763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Diggin' the new Bitcoinica interface on: November 29, 2011, 09:14:07 PM
I calculated the commission rate for each volume size based upon today's numbers...

V ≤ 50 ... 2%
50 < V ≤ 500 ... 7.8%
500 < V ≤ 5,000 ... 17%

These numbers are absurd.

That's not the actual commission. You haven't taken into account market depth. Try to sell 5000 BTC on Mt Gox and see what happens to the price.

Oh really? At Bitcoinica, selling 5000 gets you 2.5666 each.  At mtgox, ACCOUNTING FOR DEPTH, at least 2.7 (check on mtgoxlive).
Rates are indeed absurd.
2764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!! on: November 29, 2011, 06:56:05 PM
Bitcoin probably will have completely run its course by 2013. There's absolutely no reason to believe this is a reversal.

Hi Proudhon, I've seen the question asked before, but I don't recall your reply. Why do you hang out on these threads? Are you short and hoping to reinforce your predictions? Do I understand correctly that you believe bitcoin will completely die in the near future? Are you trying to save those who will listen (though someone always has to hold the bag)? Are you looking forward to some big "I told you so" party? I'm sincerely curious what motivates you.

He thinks it's like watching a train wreck.

how much would this cost? (in BTC)
2767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica New Version Launched Today! on: November 29, 2011, 02:23:53 PM
I imagine your backlog must be huge!

Well, you're right. There are a lot of pending withdrawal requests and I can't access the database, LOL.

Luckily the new system is perfectly stable and we don't have any data errors or scaling issues.

I'm busy replying customers' emails right now. :-D

Have you even tried to convince mtgox to lift their ridiculous limits?  Surely they can make an exception...

Bitcoinica seems to be making changes to the production site :O
I can't open my account menu, the exchange page doesn't "calculate", and a lot of things aren't working.

Fixed now.

2774  Economy / Speculation / Re: $/BTC Time Series (Probability) Analysis on: November 29, 2011, 03:26:16 AM
An observation evoked an idle musing.
Bitcoin started to be taken seriously at a parity of 1 USD. It then saw an awakening that lead to a peak of 31 USD. It then fell to around 1/10 of that between 1 and 3.1 USD. Speculators love orders of magnitude leveraging at increments of 10x but Bitcoin seems to respond to PI ratios. Let's look for the next bubble to go beyond 10*PI and then another 10*PI or around 9-10K USD. That liquidity should serve the geek market for development of new online apps. The next wave of development into sophisticated everyday useful finacial vehicles should take Bitcoin to another 10*PI or around 300K USD. After that, when fiat currencies are replaced by cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin will be worth the equivalent of another 10*PI or around 10M USD.

Sir, you have a sample size of exactly 1 (or 2 depending on how you look at it).  HUGE, eh?
Smiley

edit: I should note that pi is roughly the square root of 10.

Lowest ask is now 2.25, MtGox last is 2.48.  Serious liquidity issues in the world of bitcoin right now.

Let me fix that for you

Serious liquidity issues in the world of Mtgox right now.

I'm having continued massive trouble on withdrawals on Mtgox. I don't think I am the only one. How am I supposed to do arbitrage if I can't get the fiat money moved?

what withdrawals are you having trouble with
