2406  Economy / Speculation / Re: This chart illustrates why this is III and not a 3-3-5 on: December 22, 2011, 02:35:23 PM
not saying that what they are saying will happen, but it went to 3.5 and started to recover? seems like they are right on so far?

Well, looks that guy with the 5000BTC at 3.80 chickened out.

proudhon, we were making a month-scale prediction and here you're talking about a short-term correction with people cashing out.  I don't see anything wrong with our hypothesis yet.
2407  Economy / Speculation / Re: This chart illustrates why this is III and not a 3-3-5 on: December 22, 2011, 02:10:04 PM
1. up Dec  1 - $3.14
2. dn Dec  4 - $2.63 (50% retrace)
3. up Dec 19 - $4.5
4. dn (pick your own retrace target) 50% would be =~$3.57
5. up ~$5.8+ target

This sounds similar to what I'm thinking.  Going to $6, guys.
2408  Economy / Lending / Re: 38 BTC Loan will repay 50 BTC 1 week term on: December 22, 2011, 04:58:53 AM

2410  Economy / Lending / Re: 38 BTC Loan will repay 50 BTC 1 week term on: December 22, 2011, 04:21:10 AM
Payback coming tomorrow... hope zer0 comes back online Smiley
2411  Economy / Speculation / Re: Long-term market reversal? on: December 21, 2011, 04:07:47 AM
Proudhon bet you 50 Bitcoins that the price doesn't dip below $2 in the next 2 weeks.

lol I thought you had something worked out with Proudhon and were offering it to S3052... Sad
2412  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bet: Bitcoin will not drop below $2 in the next two weeks. 50 BTC bets only! on: December 21, 2011, 04:06:28 AM
No thanks.

Propose a better bet then.  We want you to back up your bearish sentiment with money Smiley
2413  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's the least costly way to cash out of Bitcoinica? on: December 21, 2011, 02:50:21 AM
Tranfers to MtGox via redeemable USD code (do NOT exchange to BTC, huge fees on Bitcoinica for that).  Link up Dwolla to MtGox.  Transfer USD from MtGox to Dwolla.  Link up checking account to Dwolla.  Transfer USD from Dwolla to checking account for 25cent fee.

If you don't already have all those accounts set up and linked it is going to take you a while, at least a week, to complete the process.  See how easy Bitcoin is!!! /sarcasm
Thanks, looks like I picked the right places, I'll finally get to use the Dwolla account for something.

Wow, did you go long at 10:1 at 3.2? lol

i did at 7:1   but i bought bitcoin using dollars, i assumed the fees were not too great, am i wrong??

wow... you must've made a nice bundle of cash.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

"Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained."

It was an obvious truth, stated well, by someone who knows that subject more than the rest of us.  Helen Keller undoubtedly was an expert on the falsehoods of security, for she had none except for what was provided for her by others.  Just because she was insightful in this topic, doesn't imply that she was equally insightful in others.  Likewise, the Unibomber made some good points in his manifesto and he was  a homicidal nutjob; but the fact that he was a homicidal nutjob doesn't necessarily detract from his other insights.  There are many other current examples that comes to mind straight away, such as Occupy Wall Street and Glen Beck.

I know that; I'm just poking fun at you. Tongue

edit: Just FYI, in Russia, Communism isn't that controversial (or, more precisely, it's controversial but you won't shock anyone with a hammer and sickle)... the Communist Party gets a significant portion of the vote regularly.

2417  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bet: Bitcoin will not drop below $2 in the next two weeks. 50 BTC bets only! on: December 21, 2011, 02:39:54 AM
This is a lopsided bet. if you win you get 50 BTC at a high price, and if you lose you give 50 BTC at a low price.

That is true.  If you want another bet, you can go off and make one.  The offer stands.
2418  Economy / Gambling / Bet: Bitcoin will not drop below $2 in the next two weeks. 50 BTC bets only! on: December 21, 2011, 01:08:55 AM
Come on proudhon, let's do this.  FlipPro also wants 50 BTC on the winning side... oops, I mean, the >$2 side. Tongue

Won't drop below $2: 100 BTC = 50 (me) + 50 (FlipPro)

"WON'T DROP" SIDE IS ALREADY CLOSED TO BETTING.

Will drop below $2: 0 BTC <--- BEARS YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS HUGE

Rules
Winners will divide the winning bets evenly, according to their contribution. (50/50 if we win)
Betting closes 12/22/2011 12:00 AM GMT.
"Next 2 weeks" starts when betting closes.

2420  Economy / Speculation / Re: more tricky analysis on: December 21, 2011, 12:24:07 AM
Also individuals could be modelled to run out of money, for example, and are then forced to switch trading model. Should that be modelled down to the individual level or can that be modelled by flux to different bots? Will we end up with too many possibilities of "optimal distributions" and no predictive power in the end?

I think these (and more) problems cannot be easily answered without getting our hands dirty and trying the idea.

On the other hand: this just has to be better and more (automatically) flexible than technical analysis Wink

Actually this has to have been tried already or be used in the wild (non-bitcoin trading world), no?

Individuals shouldn't matter at all, just the amount of money following each model. The nice thing about this is that any completely inferior trading model will naturally bleed money to the better models (like a bad trader running out of money). I have a graduate course in optimization this spring. Maybe I could use this as my project.

How can you possibly determine
1. How many trading models there are and which ones
2. Proportion for each model
3. Whether you missed any models
