1982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Methods to monitor an address on: July 30, 2016, 05:54:21 PM
If I have a known bitcoin address, and wanted to automatically monitor the balance, and possibly even be notified if there is a change in balance,
what are my options to accomplish this?
Are there functions for this built into core, do I need to be running a node, is there a website API for one of the blockchain sites that can accomplish this?

I've done some googling and found a little info, but figured I would ask here since there is probably more than one way to accomplish this,
I'd like to see the advantages/ disadvantages of some different methods.

(I think I should have posted this in Development & Technical Discussion if a mod wants to move it.)
Thanks in advance for any information I can get!

An easy method for just watching anytime you open your wallet would be to import a watch-only address. In terms of getting a notification though hmm.. I know blockchain.info has this feature and I'm sure other wallets must too. Depending on what wallet you use you should be able to have a notification. Anyways here it is for blockchain.info : https://blockchain.info/wallet/payment-notifications
1983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carry empty paper bitcoin wallets with you on: July 30, 2016, 05:47:06 PM
There is no need to carry paper wallet with you if you have Bitcoin debit card. It is muchw easier and more practical and convenient. And you can educate people about Bitcoin also, they could be even more interested if they see that they could also use the card.
That's not what bitcoin is about. If you are using a debit card it's probably mastercard or visa,  so they don't learn anything if you pay with those. You also enrich those payment processors with a fee.

Exactly! Using a debit card won't teach anyone anything. Maybe if you said 'I'm using bitcoins right now!' you could tell them a bit more about it but let's be honest, who does that when using a bitcoin debit card? There's no need to at that point. You already know they'll accept it so the question 'do you take bitcoins?' is irrelevant.
1984  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Carry empty paper bitcoin wallets with you on: July 26, 2016, 01:42:59 PM
I have heard people giving out these paper wallets and after a month still seeing no movement on those coins. I think its more complicated for someone to be introduced to bitcoin through a paper wallet.

Not only that. I think it is not advisable to throw free Bitcoin around to people that are only marginally interested. First the effort to make the funds usable is too high for any amount below 0.05 BTC for a person that never used Bitcoin before. Second - which is the more important psychological reason - giving away Bitcoin for free makes it less desirable to own.

I would only give out Bitcoin, if the person did some work or sold some goods to explicitly obtain Bitcoin. Giving away Bitcoin without request to people barely interested makes Bitcoin appear less valuable, because something valuable is generally not given away for free. So it might actually have a negative impact on the perception of Bitcoin.

Giving away Bitcoin should require the explicitly stated desire of a person to own it. Anything else could make Bitcoin appear like the latest fad that needs marketing to be sold off to the masses.

ya.ya.yo!

I guarantee you 99% of people start using Bitcoins looking for ways to earn 'free' bits. People start with faucets, earning nickels on bitcointalk to write reviews for websites or whatever it might be. I would have been way more interested way faster if I didn't spend 2 months to earn those measly 2mBTC!
1985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So, who actually MAKES MONEY with Bitcoin? on: July 26, 2016, 12:56:12 PM
Rofl are you high? You really think bitcoin casinos are taking a loss? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. No one will keep a business going if it's hemorrhaging money! Could miners are all Ponzis so of course they make some money (over the very short term). Mining hardware is a tough business but the big players in the market are making a good income. As with any market it's competitive, which is good because as a consumer it keeps the prices down.

Obviously this was a pathetic attempt to advertise your signature.

BTW, I make money with Bitcoins. I'm just clearly not going to announce how.
1986  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 0.99% Fees for BitcoinTalk members! Start Shopping at Shopawl.com on: July 25, 2016, 08:28:57 PM
I'm a little confused.

What is the normal fee and more importantly what are you charging the fee for? A service charge for us to buy something from you?

Also just a side note: people aren't going to link their real life Facebook to your website because then it would be linked to their bitcointalk account. I don't want people to know my name and address online!

Ah I was pretty close last time. The problem is now I'm thinking there will be a bigger dip. More people will realize that they no longer have ROI a they'll shut off their miners.

1989  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Seeking some advice. How does one start to become an escrower. on: July 25, 2016, 07:45:14 PM
Hi guys.

I want start another adventure here at Bitcointalk.  If you don't know, the first one was asking how to get in a good signature campaign as I posted here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1498626.0

It wasn't easy at first, and I had to prove to the managers that I am worthy enough to get in.  And thankfully, I got in very good signature campaign.  Ros of Betcoin is really great.  Props to him.

Now I am seeking advice on how I can become an escrower.  Where do I start and how do I gain the people's trust?

I'm also hoping this thread will be helpful not just to me, but for the other readers as well.  Thanks.

This is a really basic question just like when you were asking how to join a signature campaign... is your account bought or did you just post nonsense for the past years not understanding how anything works? This is totally bizarre. You clearly can only be an escrow if people trust you. I see no one on default trust trusts you. You're starting from nothing. Want to become an escrow? Do trustworthy things on the forum. When you have more trust than any average DT3 or DT2 you can look into being an escrow. If you start offering the service now no one will use you and some DT2/DT1 members may even tag you.
1990  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: difficulty finally dropping like expected- dramatically. on: July 25, 2016, 07:13:41 PM
Even though KNC miner has declared bankruptcy, it will still bounce back. You will see, they have gone too far to turn back now.

What does that even mean? Do you understand what bankruptcy is? No they won't bounce back lol. They're bankrupt. Maybe the owners will open a new company but only time will tell.

Well right after the halving it seemed fairly flat (ip 3% down 2%, etc) so this could just be 'back to normal' because there used to be higher swings before the halving. +/- 8% was normal in any weekly period.

Seems like the another thread has now been deleted for some reason. Buddy, do you know as to why that happened?

Probably a mod deleted it... The no begging rule... I think it wasn't clear what he was offering in return so it got deleted. This thread clearly offers coins for sale and then the proceeds go toward his brother in law's fire (why no/not enough insurance...?)
1992  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: paypal payment sent to your paypal account FREE TRANSFER on: July 25, 2016, 02:27:17 PM
I would advise all of you to stay away from this seller,  never sent a single sent to him first,  i saw more than 20 posts on paxful similar to these and he won't send you the paypal until he has the btc. Avoid at all costs.

Just coz you seen a similar post does not mean it was me who posted it?
Bellend Wink

Just thought I'd pop back in. Did you get that 1btc loan for your wife's cancer medical bills yet? Oh, looks like you deleted the thread. You must be all set then. Maybe your dog needs a big surgery now? O you're going to lose your house because you lost your job? We've heard it all before. Gtfo bitcointalk you shameless newb.

Rofl! Bitwonga?! Where on earth did you come up with that? I'm not going to this sketchy site.

Oh. I figured it out now:

You're going to have some legal trouble very soon...
1994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanitygen on: July 25, 2016, 01:02:24 PM
The file is not available as it has expire, probably because of how old it is. I will look into using a split key vanity method but I will probably end up purchasing a vps for a month to generate the addresses I need. Thanks for suggesting the app.

You could always make or buy an Ubuntu Live CD/USB as well. Basically you use the CD/USB and say you want to 'try Ubuntu' (Linux) and from there you have a brand new system that you just run off of the CD/USB. It may be a cheaper option for you (depending on how much a good VPN would cost for a month) and IMO it's more secure than a VPS. That and you'll always own it instead of 'renting' a VPS.
1995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanitygen on: July 25, 2016, 12:00:33 PM
Is there an option to generate a custom Bitcoin address on Android. Is there a vanitygen app or can it only be used on a vps or pc. If there is not an app is there an inbrowser vanitygen alternative?

If you look in the OP of samr7's thread (Near the bottom) you'll see that someone had made an android version. I think I tried it a long time ago and it wasn't working. It was developed in 2012 and no one seemed to keep up with it. You can try it out though and see if it'll work now!

Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22]

aVanityGen Alpha v0.2: Vanity address generator for Android. [UPDATED 1/11/12]

i think generating an address with speficic name until 5 sensitive letters on android would take an age,and so far no app for android to generate an address and generating using browser really not encouraged, but hey you can just hire someone to generate an address for you,and the one who's already trusted on this forum is shorena if i'm not mistaken

Use split key vanity gen and it doesn't matter if they're 'trusted' or not. Shorena uses this method and you never have to trust him because he never has your private key. Essentially what you're doing is taking a part private key and 'adding' your other part private key to make a new private key for your very own secure vanity address.

I'm a senior member now. Please update my rank on the next wave of payments.
Will do - your rank will be updated when you receive your next payment. Do you mind updating your signature to the Senior signature after you receive your next payment?

I'll just do it now so I don't forget lol.

Edit: there we go it's all set up! Thanks! I don't suppose I get any different pay for changing it over early right? Wink
1997  Economy / Lending / Re: [no collateral] 0.015 for 0.017 return on: July 25, 2016, 02:19:16 AM
only joke is you
Roll Eyes Insulting potential lenders sure seems like a great way to try and get a loan.

It does seem extremely odd though that you were inactive for a 15 months, and then you magically come back to request a loan.

I haven't deleted anything, check bctalkaccountpricer.info

It shows staked addresses, even deleted ones. I've just never posted one.

This isn't a hacked one I was inactive thank you
It also seems a little odd that you seem to know so much about bctalkaccountpricer.info, when the site was created in August of 2015. Your last posts (before this loan request) were made in April 2015, so months before bctalkaccountpricer.info was a thing.

That and actually click on his post history. He now has 9 posts. All of his activity has been wiped clean. This is clearly a hacked/cracked/sold account. If it's not (by some miracle) it is now worthless.

1999  Economy / Lending / Re: I need 1BTC please.. will repay within 10 days! on: July 25, 2016, 02:06:54 AM
i saw your paypal-btc exchange thread, why not ask your team mates if they can help you out on this one? if its true that your wife has cancer, they should help you in this case or maybe time to withdraw your paypal balances to your bank

$100 worth  BTC get you: $150 on your paypal account
$150 worth  BTC get you: $300 on your paypal account
$230 worth BTC get you: $600 on your paypal account
$600 worth  BTC get you: $1000 on your paypal account

Exactly this. You sketchy bastard. Get the hell off of bitcointalk! Every post you make gets sketchier and sketchier. Your obvious attempts to scam are so stupid even a child would see through them in a heartbeat. Get the hell out of here.

You're clearly bipolar.

Thanks for all your help in advance. May God bless you.

Did you already forget about this full on freak out?

tell me why the fuck would you leave me a scammer mark when i am not scamming anyone? are you that much of a fucking retard?
Remove the fucking mark you dipshit.

Wow, sounds like a legitimate business to me. If someone doubts your OBVIOUSLY scammy business is legitimate and does something about it then you shit your pants and freak out.

Good idea to do this:

.

Now lock the thread you dirtball.
2000  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Funny thing I'm learning... on: July 25, 2016, 02:04:36 AM
As others have said this isn't something where someone just came up with your address somehow and sent you some Bitcoins. There has to be some way they found it. Maybe it was someone on the forum that liked what you posted, maybe it's another website you have your address posted on. Maybe it's something you signed up for and forgot about a few months ago. Keep watching the address that sent the Bitcoins to you to see what else they do.
