Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-02-19] Nigeria and Bitcoin
|

No offense, but Nigerians are very famous on the internet and their fame is not good. Reports of Nigerian scammers runs all over the internet or at least ran, will it be good to associate bitcoin with them? It's not really about their reputation. If they start actually using bitcoins it will bring more capital which means a higher market cap which means a higher price. No matter how you look at it, more people buying bitcoins = price bump. I don't see this being huge though unless the whole country starts exclusively using bitcoins (which won't happen, or if it does it won't be overnight).

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to transfer BTC between addresses in the same wallet?
|
on: February 19, 2017, 03:30:33 AM

Yes. Technically you have a lot of addresses in a wallet but if you check out wallet Explorer you'll see which ones actually have balances. Now if you have all of your inputs in one address you won't want to send them to that same address (even if it's possible). You can definitely send funds from 1 address to another. It's still two seperate addresses. Offcourse it's possible, as others already said. Personally, I have never tried to do it. And I don't understand point of it. If these addresses are connected to your wallet, you have one main ballance. If you send coins from wallet to address D, you will only need to pay transaction fee, but your coins will remain on your main ballance.
the main reason you would want to do this is if one address as a bunch of tiny inputs. like say you mined bitcoin on that address.. after awhile, if you wanted to buy something with that address you would have so many small inputs you would have a large tx.. sweeping that wallet to a new address combines all those inputs into one bigger one.. so when you want to buy something you dont have such a huge tx and therefor your tx will confirm faster with a lower fee.. The only way that saves you any Satoshis are if you see fees are low on a certain day so you send a low priority transaction, say 10 or 20 sat/byte. Either way you'll have to pay for X amount of tiny inputs at some point.

The chance of getting aproved is below >30% In case they get the green light, BTC price will massively rise up to 1600$ for the first weeks. If they get declined, the price might hit $700-$900.
I love how everyone and their dog tries to come up with a chance that this will happen. Why is it 1 in 4 ish? According to who? It was pulled out of someone's ass and that's all most people are going on.

Other / Meta / Re: Is bitcointalk preparing for 100 million users as bitcoin grows?
|
on: February 19, 2017, 02:16:41 AM

Whether this forum will reach 100 million members or not. Still there is a new forum software that is waiting for us and that will make this forum upgrade. And with your concerns that's the job of mods.
Agreed. We've been waiting for a new software update /visual UI overhaul/upgrades in general for a long time. While it seems to be reliable and work with minimal latency for me, Bitcointalk is starting to show its age and there's no guarantee the current implementations would be able to handle more users. Once that's achieved, I think we can start looking for more staff members, or do both simultaneously. Can Theymos even afford more staff though? It doesn't nessicarily work where more users are signed up so you can afford more staff members. It depends on his current cashflow.

Economy / Gambling / Re: Website with "skill" based games?
|
on: February 18, 2017, 07:05:44 PM

Poker is probably the only game that skill will give you an edge but either way it's still gambling. Try playing video games for rewards if you really are skilled at them then you don't have to worry about stupid petty little card games.
Oh, I didn't mean actual skill. What I meant was games that give you the illusion of being based on skill, or give you the illusion that it was your own fault that you lost. For example, playing Satoshimines gives you the illusion of being your own fault if you don't cash out but pick too many squares. Bustabit does the same when you can always cash out and it's your own fault for waiting too long. Obviously both of those games are based on luck and whatever multiplier/mine position the server chooses. Sorry if that wasn't clear - English isn't my primary language. Ah ok, we'll I prefer games that do actually require skill haha. Pretty much all casinos want you to feel like you were so close to winning so that you'll try try again (and in the end with their edge they'll always win of course.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to hack BTC on that address only by knowing the bitcoin address?
|
on: February 18, 2017, 06:58:15 PM
|
Did you try maybe googling it first? Ugh. No. If bitcoins are hackable then everyone on earth is fucked because banking uses the same encryption SHA256. Don't worry about it. A much more likely way to lose your bitcoins would be someone hacking your computer, stealing a paper wallet or robbing you at gunpoint. Actually, I want to know how to attack the bitcoin address. Get an address with a high amount of bitcoin in it. How can a hacker attack this address? There is no other information. There's only address information and bitcoin amount.
This is actually very easy. 1) buy a pretty good quality computer. Best if fully dedicated and separate from your normal computer. 2) download and install Vanitygen 3) 64 vanitygen64 (64 is faster and works better than normal vanitygen) 4) start scan on the address like this at the command line: vanitygen64 1FuckYouc6zrtHbnqcHdhrSVhcxgpJgfds It will take some time for sure. But soon you will have the key for that address. Don't let the morons around here tell you it is impossible. That is just plain wrong. It is scientifically provable that this works. Dumbasses who don't understand statistics love declaring this impossible. Vanitygen guesses millions of times per second. With enough seconds, it is not impossible. It would be much faster to buy a gun, a plane ticket and a body bag. But let tell your great great great great great(^256) grandkids to report back once they hacked my bitcoin address.

Just be extremely careful and use a very well established company. They could potentially run at any point with your funds though so it's the same as leaving funds in an exchange IMO.

Economy / Economics / Re: Is Paypal a scam?
|
on: February 18, 2017, 03:59:33 AM

They are not scammers, they have high fee's, there is some strange rule's, depending from country where they operate, and there is always unsatisfied customers. Just because they have bad review from some people doesn't make them scammers, that is just need to be warning for others to read even small letters before they sign up for something.
Correct, the thing that bothers me the most out of Paypal are simply the ridiculous fees you need to pay , that is why bitcoin seems like the best option right now to send money no matter where you are since the fee compared to paypal is still way lower. If you're ebay seller then you should know that ebay sellers have very hard time selling products as they face lots of chargebacks and yes paypal fees is very high which makes sellers to earn very little profit. I remember selling a few things on eBay. After all of the fees I came out with such a fucking horrible deal. I lost money on it, badly and the asshole never even gave me feedback! I hate the place as a seller. It's so buyer friendly but if you sell you're completely fucked.

I almost exclusively use bitcoins as a store of value so I definitely treat it more like a stock. There are a ton of people that don't on this forum though. It's the same with fiat, some people are savers and some are spenders.

Lol needs a manager because clearly the op of the signature campaign can't be plastered with red trust. I'm assuming you'll also be putting the funds in escrow either with the campaign manager or someone else?

I'm getting power for half per KWh than anyone out here off a 10MW feed...I think it will be profitable yeah but how much is warehouse rent, who is going to watch and set up the machines, how much will you pay them, what if you or them drops a new miner and breaks it do you have the funds to repay the owner? What if a surge goes through and breaks equipment, do you have industrial surge equipment did you price everything into your startup or did you focus on $.03 a kWh? Yes my CFO has his Masters in Business Finance and we've covered a ton. our CTO has been mining since 2010 and gone through a gambit of failures and success, and I've fallen on my face with multiple ventures and have learned the hard way. We're starting this out as a real corporate organization with structure and integrity....absolutely going to do this the right way! This is sounding really good! You've obviously got some experts working with you. Are you planning on expanding to more locations/miners in the future or just hoping to maintain the 1000 and see how that goes? What miners are you using btw? S9s? Avalon7? Something else?
