The account is not hacked or obtained from immoral or illegal means.

No need to rush things. It may take longer than people think, but eventually we will definitely get the price to touch the magical $1000 barrier.
All the volatility as result of the panic dumps allow traders to increase their coin count, and thus for that reason I am happily taking advantage of this opportunity.
All signs are bullish where only one of the major Chinese exchanges getting "hacked" with tons of coins getting lost can get the price to go down badly.
True, but all im saying is, if we didn't had roger ver with is anti segwit agenda, we would be rising way faster, once segwit gets activated and people see the benefits and 0 negatives, and once we have segwit we could even consider a blocksize increase, but we have idiots stagnating bitcoin's progress right now. I don't know... Are there really no negatives for anyone? Is that even possible? If the blocks are less full wouldn't the miners' fees be less? Just to be clear "some idiots" are more than 70% of the network?
Seems to me there is probably a bit more to it than a few die hards.
It's only been out, what, a few weeks? People aren't going to rush to change if it's going ok for them. |

At the time of OP, price fell from 15.40 to ~7.60 in a matter of hours. Pirateat40 defaulted on investors coins to the tune of 500k BTC which put the market into a panic.
Lol this is some cool old bitcointalk right here! Ibdidnt even know that happened. I was way too caught up in other things and didn't know bitcoin existed at that point! Real traders keep trading no matter what.
Make sense. He said he would buy more if he was wrong. Obviously he bought more and made a killing. Either that or he lost them all to a corrupted hard drive hahaha! |

It's not enough to check the frequency. For instance, the sequence "1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3" has equal frequencies, but is unlikely to be random.
If you tried with a few thousand blocks this wouldn't show a more scientific answer rather than "I rolled a die 6x and I got 3 twice, therefore the odds of rolling a 3 on a die is 1 in 3" . It's just not how odds work. |

Just because you dont understand the code dos not mean that bitcoin is not open source No. The reason is because few people understand open source. Rather, they think that it means security (at least to some extent) when it doesn't mean nearly the security that they think it does. The only Only ONLY thing that keeps Bitcoin secure is, the good intentions of the devs.  I'm fine with that. I've never had a problem with email, have you? I sure as hell don't know how my microwave works, should I call black and decker and ask them if it's open source? Ah! You, then, are one of the very few who understand the full extent of Qt programming in Bitcoin? All right! We have a winner. One person in thousands (hundreds 0f thousands) who understands Bitcoin programming. So, it is open source to you. I think that if you look at the full meaning of "open source," you will find that open source really says that it has to be available for understanding by anyone. Bitcoin source code is available for understanding only by a relatively few programmers. That's illogical. Just because you can't understand the language(for lack of a better term) it's written in doesn't mean it's not open source. Google it: "Denoting software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified." If you want to be able to contribute to bitcoin then maybe take a class or try to educate yourself some other way. Also if you want to compete and make a better microwave I'd say you'd better figure out how they work too. |

Could there be a law on stolen bitcoins? What if there would be a law punishing those who steal bitcoins and those people behind scam sites? And if so, is it necessary to have such law? I'm just wondering, if there would be such law about stolen bitcoins, it could be a big relief to us bitcoin users. But then, there are so many questions and issues that goes with this ideal that makes me skeptical about it.  I'm not sure if there is any law for stolen bitcoins but there should be because it is the same thing as stealing money. This phenomena is damaging the bitcoin itself but also the bitcoin users because they are unsafe if someone else steals money. yeah there should be but good luck telling that to the law enforcement. and if you are living in one of those developing countries and encounter someone who is technologically challenged  you are going to have a hard time even making him understand what you mean let alone file a complaint. Haha all they would here is someone stole my legend of Zelda rupees! Get them nao! I'm gonna sue! It's sad but true, a lot of people don't know or care about bitcoin or recognize bitcoin as a legitimate currency. |

I think adding the amount of bitcoin will cause so many bad impact, the biggest impact is the price when the amount is added, automatically it will decrease the value, and because bitcoin is decentralized where the price is based on supply and demand, adding an amount going to add the number of supply, so it will makes the price go down, and then it will be a bad scenario for trader, because if the amount added is too much it will need a lot of time for the price to bounce back
Considering that adding Bitcoin breaks one of the fundamental processes and promises that Bitcoin was bringing to the table, I would think that it is beyond bad and such an event would absolutely destroy a lot of the trust anyone and everyone has in bitcoin, and the value would proceed to jump off a bridge because their investments are now easily made worthless. Can't add any, can't take away any. Just leave it be at 21m. Exactly. This goes against the entire principles of bitcoin! If for whatever stupid reason this happens I'm going with a different fork. You can't just make more bitcoins, this isn't fiat. |

Technically speaking, yes. But also technically speaking some judges don't consider bitcoin a currency. The problem is even if you barter you're technically supposed to claim it as a sale and purchase.
It's a complicated question with a complex answer. If you're doing a small amount who cares, but if you're talking about $1000s worth of bitcoins I'd be careful and ask a lawyer.

You guys deserved to lose your money if you have been an intelligent investors a pig farm is not possible to give you a monthly payment.  Glad this turned into scam already. Lol ok let's not exactly go that far. I wouldn't blame the victim per se, but yes it was pretty obvious. The problem is people thought be cause he actually owned pigs that somehow the high rate of return was achievable. If I start a potato farm and tell you I'll give you 200% ROI in a month you'd be asking me how do you could start your own potato farm lol. If it's too good to be true it most likely is. This is exactly that situation. The early investors got s few payments and then all of them got screwed. Don't incest if there's no way to get your money back. He can't give you a pig if you live on the other side of the world (not that you'd want one rofl). That is not the only reason why people invested. He showed a video with a farm pig structure, some pictures also of the farm progress. It wasn't like any other Ponzi scheme with unreal promises and no proofs. 5% monthly can be real and he promised to pay the income relative to the investment cost in dollar. Example: if someone invested 1 Bitcoin when the BTC was in $600, he would pay $30 monthly until the end, doesn't matter the BTC price variations. Offering 5% monthly (assuming simple interest) is the same as offering a 60% return on investment. If you think that's realistic then you're very naive. If I was running a legitimate business I would offer maybe 5%, 10%, or 15% interest and negotiate from there. I would never give someone 60% interest because I'm not a fool with my money. Obviously the @op isn't either as he just made payments until he had enough 'invested' to run. Sure he has a pig farm. I have no doubt in my mind. But offering 60% return from the beggining is obviously too good to be true. Why not just go to a loan shark? Oh that's right, because when you don't pay back the loan shark you'll have your kneecaps broken. Let this be a lesson to anyone reading. Even if it's a legitimate business that doesn't mean high returns are still possible. Who's to say he couldn't get a loan from a bank because he's 100k in debt already? Or he has terrible credit because he doesn't pay people back? Don't you believe someone can offer 5% interest monthly? It's not impossible. 60% YEARLY isn't an absurd amount. So you 2.5% interest weekly is an absurd too, because on month it will be 10%! And I see some people offering this amount of interest weekly. OP could work the first year just to build his farm and to pay the investors (if he were a honest person), in the second year he could start manking profit for himself, because the investments were already paid. Sorry, I think naivy is who thinks too small that can't believe 5% monthly interest is very possible and I would say reasonable... Look what @op offered. Look what people got in return. Greediness led to a huge loss rather than a modest gain. No business can afford a 60% interest rate and if they can, they're in the money laundering business. Case in point though of course is this thread. It was (and still is) unrealistic and naive to think 5% a month is a modest return. |

What do you like best about bitcoin? Decentralization, transparency or easier to move? Or just it makes you look cool? LOL 100% because it makes me look cool. I don't know anyone who considers bitcoin cool. Neat maybe but not cool. I use bitcoins because I love the idea and think it's going to catch on more and more over time. I don't want to be that guy saying I've known about it for years and never invested. |
