I dont think that will happen in the future. Dollar is very popular and many used, so that will not replace. It is very important.
Many people doesnt even know what Bitcoin is and that is the problem, first it must becoming popular and that we can talk about replacement.

The dollar or paper money will be there for long term. The paper notes or metal coins will be useful when there is not electricity.

bitcoin will be very difficult to replace the dollar. maybe dollar can make a digital version. it would be very difficult for bitcoin

I don't think that bitcoin will definitely replace dollar sooner this is not possible. Dollar currency will remain, ,for centuries no other currencies ever replace dollar. All over the world, other currencies depend on dollar rates when it comes to economic and financial status. As per bitcoin, dollar has also rates that goes up and down as a part of business outsources.

US won't let that happen at all... and I am doubting that bitcoin will get banned in some countries due to the risk of funds being transferred anonymously to some illegal working industry such as Taliban, etc.

I don't think so really, too many issues.
- Price fluctuates too much
- No government control
- Re-teaching a whole population on how to use and manage money can't be easy.

It just seems too unrealistic. Like many others have said, maybe a century or so? Wouldn't surprise me if Bitcoin was unheard of then on the other hand.

I think Bitcoin will either completely die, or become ridiculously huge. It can't linger as a "nerd" thing forever.

How soon? In the 70s credit cards were introduced which were not a new currency but a different form of currency.  I think 200 years from now the world is going to look very different and not sure if dollar will be around or if everyone would be using digits  Smiley

Paper bitcoins were possible since day one.

bitaddress.org  is a good site to make them.

It's not that no one is considering it - smart people already have replaced the dollar in their lives with public noncounterfeitables.  The trouble is that most people are just asking to be robbed, and would never trust themselves to act on their own thinking.  They will continue to use systems specifically designed to rob them.

bitcoin certainly will not be able to replace the dollar in a short time. needed technology and other things more advanced than now for bitcoin could replace the dollar. therefore bitcoin will be the first currency who replace the dollar, it happens maybe a few more decades

How's that? Bitcoin targets a complete different audience then the US dollar. In fact i am positive bitcoin can't replace any fiat currency.
Since bitcoins can only be used online.

Funny but its true, it is still far from happening in our lifetime...dollar is well established and I think there is still no reason for it to collapse just because of bitcoin..

bitcoin have biggets potential to replace dollar, it's possible, but we don't know when, now more altcoin growing to much and some investor (miner) leaving bitcoin and mining some new altcoin, this is the biggest problem for bitcoin can survive in long time. If bitcoin not replace dollar im sure other cryptocurrency will be adopt by U.S. goverment and replace dollar system.

Exactly, bitcoin will need a strong reason to replace dollar, I mean why people will switch to bitcoin if they are comfortable with dollar, I don't see it happening in near future, and if it happens, then it would be a miracle.

One way this could be possible is if governments are secretly beginning to hoard bitcoin into their reserves, then they can start openly declaring bitcoin being their no2 or no1 investment of choice. If governments are clever they will want to do this. Like Esperanto was to be the universal language but it didn't quite happen, Bitcoin could really become the universal currency of choice. It's just a random thought of mine but it's worth but worth thinking about.
