One crazy thing about the Kawhi situation is the Lakers making public his demands (or his Uncle’s demands) to join the team. He wanted an ownership stake in the Los Angeles Lakers along with lots of other requests… I don’t think any player has ever been given an ownership stake as part of a contract. Pretty wild demand.

Damn, I really love these small stories you are always digging out. Every time I check here I already knew some new funny story has been posted. Keep them coming!!

What Kawhi is thinking is beyond my understanding. This guy never plays, has wild demands and as Stephen A. Smith has said, and I totally agree on that, "Kawhi Leonard is the worst superstar I have ever seen".  Tongue If he is healthy of course he can help any team, but that IF is very big. Pair this uncertainty with his (or his team's) wild demands and trouble they are bringing, it's not worth paying him that amount of money just for playing half the games.
In 6 years with the Clips this guy played 266 regular season games, that's 44 per season. Sure, he sat out the whole 21/22 season, but that's bad enough.

Do you agree that he's demanding too much then he will be out half of the season then go down in the playoffs when it matters? the guy can't be healthy the whole season, then demanding, yes he has prove it to other teams that he played, where he carry the team, but it should not be too much that you already have big salary and yet you want more, bring me 7 straight rings and ill give more that you wish for, the lakers always make it public its Hollywood.

I think he had a magical postseason run for the Toronto Raptors and he showed just how much better he was than a player like DeRozan. That gave him a once in a lifetime negotiation position that it looks like he took full advantage of. A shame he was never able to get healthy. He is the closest thing physically to Michael Jordan’s body type. If he was healthy and had Kobe’s work ethic I think he could’ve been one of the best ever.

That sounds really weird. If I'm not mistaken, players are not entitled to receive an ownership stake in a club as a contract payment because it is prohibited by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NBA and the Players Association.
In fact, Kawhi can only become a co-owner after he finishes his NBA career.

I agree but they can try with their current one + Lebron since their main big man is Dray who's good at physical playing.
If the LeBron-Curry duo really happens, I think these two veterans could surprise a lot of people with their performance. Of course, the Warriors can try to win the title without making major changes to the current roster, but it’s going to be extremely difficult. Imho, but they should preferably have a couple more good role players.
Not going to happen. I know that it looks like a great deal, and we all wish they would play together, but it's not going to happen.

Because it would require Lakers to trade away Lebron, and they won't do that and even if they do, Warriors do not have much to offer to Lakers, so it wouldn't make it worth it.

Lakers are in a "win now before Lebron retires" mode and for that to happen they need to get Curry, instead of give Lebron. And Lakers do not have anyone they can give for Curry, Doncic and Lebron are the only high paid players, and they are not leaving, and rest are not high paid enough to make it possible for a trade to happen, that is the issue.

So, basically it's clear that we are not going to see this trade happen.

You are right with this since that is against on their collective bargaining agreement that what you have said.

What players only allowed is when their career end up they can buy stake on some teams or even their teams affiliated businesses on where they can join venture with their merch or other stuffs.

Kawhi can do that if he's really eager to own a team in NBA in future, but there's no information shown that he has interest to do it. Also I don't see any reports that he has said that he had interest to explore in this option once he retire as a player in NBA.

Wild indeed. A player that gets paid and then gets a part of its share? I don't think that sounds good, while no doubt he's a champion and did a lot for his former teams. But if I am the owner or general manager of a team, I'll just let it slide and let his quest go somewhere else and maybe that request might be granted based on their demands.

Same thing, that decision to send Luka is a big mistake that the new owner did, a bad one for the business and most for the team, Luka is something that whoever acquired him he'll simply comes up to entertain the fans, ad from what we witnessed last FIBA games, that's a performance that fans will love to see.
He's a likeable player and it's already a done deal and Luka did played for the Lakers already, we can't go back to this bad decision of the Mavs anymore.
Anyone who cannot stay healthy enough to play a whole season, avoids the media, and IMO isn't really a team player doesn't deserve to own any part of any team. Not sure why the Clippers paid him under the table allegedly to keep him around. He is an ok basketball player, but there are many more just as good out there.

Maybe they still think that Kawhi still has something in him to bring the Clippers to win a ring. But it's obvious that he is no longer in his prime, or even if he plays good, it's not an assurance as he is more fragile every year.

I guess this is wake up call for the Clippers already. But not sure about the Lakers, if that is true then they might fall for the Leonard trick again and hopefully they will make the right decision for that.

I’m not 100% convinced that it’s an age factor but sure it has an effect on why these players keep suffering injuries.

What I’m thinking is the injury they suffered keeps resurfacing like the ACL and Hamstring that is persistent once the player already got this one.

Players keep straining their body when they are playing so this previous injuries just keep coming back that makes them an injury prone especially Davis that struggling to survive a year without suffering an injury after a dominant play.
I think the 82 games are stressing their body, aside from that before the season starts they are already training, injuries return because they are not fully healed but they need to play specially if its the playoffs there is no choice, instead of resting they are more likely to play, also back to back games, every part of the body works in basketball, if someone says its easy think again, that is the reason why some retire early because of injury and they can't compete anymore.

The number of total games is indeed too many for them to play all games in full throttle mode while they still have some aftermath from their previous injury.

So far, Injury is always the main enemy of athletes especially NBA player that dedicated most of their life running and jumping. It’s hard to become a successful athlete if you always an injury that wearing you down every year.

Actually, I’m surprised that AD can still manage to come every year to play and always get a contract without a problem.

If AD will play Power forward, and avoid bad contacts he will always be healthy, but that's the problem, since he is a big man, he has no choice but to get under the basket more often, and that's where his problems, yes he is a good shot blocker but it seems injury is chasing him every season, last year with the eye, so they really need to give him  the power forward position in the mavs he has that luxury, so lets see this season if he will be healthy.

Lakers push him badly to become center since they are lacking a good center ever since.  Cheesy

Now that he is on Mavs, He will be playing power forward now since Mavs has a lot of good center on their roster that can rival top tier center right now in terms of defense and offense prowess.

AD initial game on Mavs gives us an idea how monster he is as PF position if only he didn’t get injured that time.

Dallas hoping for "win now" includes cooper too. I mean they have AD, Irving and Cooper and yes I know cooper is young, a rookie, but he is already a decent player, and I am sure he can become a 20+ ppg player as well given enough chances.

So it's possible this trio could win a title in the next 2-3 years, as long as they can stay healthy. They have built a good team, I would still prefer if they kept Doncic, but Lakers wouldn't accepted a trade offer like kyrie-AD trade, so doncic-ad was the must do. Lets see, I think they can be good, it's too early to decide. Healthy team, and good cooper could make them have a deep run already, it is not impossible. And pieces around them are not that bad neither, so it's possible.

I don't think that the Lakers are dumb enough to fall for the same scheme of what Kawhi has accepted. It's not gonna happen anymore when it's happened already to the Clippers. The fines are there already and it's said that Kawhi has to return all of the proceeds that he's received from aspiration. Ballmer will be fined and suspended, the Clippers have to pay up to $7.5M of fine, Kawhi $350k around. And many other involvements are there like from the drafts and also the suspension of other staffs.

It seems Jimmy Butler can’t help but check in with the Warriors’ front office. Understandable, since he joined the Warriors chasing his first ring, but the team isn’t really doing anything right now. They’re not adding anyone who could actually help, while other teams are stacking up their rosters for a strong comeback. The Warriors’ trio already expressed they want Kuminga back, but the real question is, will the Warriors give him more playing time and a bigger paycheck? I don't think so.

As far as paycheck, it's obvious that the Warriors are not willing to give Kuminga that. They are firm on their offer to him and Kuminga doesn't like that and was looking to get out but so far no one is really taking the bite out of it. Second, for the playing time, we will see, it's now on the shoulder of Kerr, he will have to make some adjustment if he will be given by the management the go signal to play Kuminga with more minutes so that it is still going to be a win win for them. And they have this history of not making any big moves in the free agency, but just getting players of support rule so everyone should not be surprised by what they are doing right now as if this is the norm for the Warriors. As long as they keep their core, they think that they can be fine.

The upcoming season is about to happen.

There can still a lot of things can happen for the Warriors. If they want to revamp their roster, they'd do that.

I think that there were some offers already for them to trade but as for Kuminga, you're right, he's asking for a bigger salary.

If you're with a team that hasn't done any single deal during the off-season, you will really be asking some questions about the future of the team. That's where Butler is currently.

I mean the Warriors are the only team in the league that hasn't made any trades or acquisitions during the off-season, and aside from that, only 9 players are in contract, and the training camp will happen 3 weeks from now. All of these are happening because of only one person - Jonathan Kuminga. It's just unfortunate how the Warriors are being held right now just because of a single player. They want to give him a $25M per year contract, but they don't want to commit on him as well. Kuminga also said that he doesn't want to be with the Warriors anymore unless they give him more playing time. I wonder what Steve Kerr will be doing.

As for Butler, checking the Warriors' office is a good idea for him. He doesn't want to waste another year of his career especially now that he's still chasing his first title. As for the Warriors, I don't know about their decisions, but it seems like they're dysfunctional currently, and can't decide what they will do with Kuminga.

Anyone who watched NBA for the last 5 years would think Kawhi could win anyone a ring. Sure he went from winning a title to Clippers, and at that point you may think that was possible. But, it's only acceptable to think it was possible back then, ever since then, he has been injured and not playing many games, and specially in important ones.

So when you have a super star, that can make you go to playoffs barely, and he doesn't even play enough to make that happen? It's clear that Clippers are not going to benefit from him. I am going to make it public and say that Kawhi will not get a max contract ever again after this one is done. He is officially a veteran minimum player, no longer going to make a dime more than that.

They are different from the raptors that khawi had to win the finals, if they want to win, all the teammates need to be consistent during the playoffs harden sometimes disappear,
unlike the raptors that all the players contribute when needed, clippers are sometimes good in the regular season while in the playoffs they are a regular team, they show signs of being a team to beat then, a breakdown when needed, so im sure they will not make this year besides they got issue with balmer and khawi.

Leonard five years ago and now are two different players, so to speak. Although he also missed a lot of games five years ago, he was in his prime. But in recent seasons, his statistics have declined significantly, and objectively speaking, he is now overrated. I mean that his current contract, worth $50 million per season, is unreasonably high.

They are wasting resources for those matter and to bad they cannot heavily rely on Kawhi since if his not injured they are afraid that Kawhi would be in that situation.

That's why it will be so hard for Clippers to win a championship with Kawhi especially that they are struggling to maintain his health. Now that they are facing serious issue and Kawhi is in big trouble for sure Clippers will get heavily affected on those controversy.

Maybe its time for them to rebuild and look for young talents that have great potential, they should look at what OKC did and they became successful with those efforts they made for so many years.

Yes, I do agree that he is overrated now, he haven't had any full blown season since his championship run with the Raptors if I'm not mistaken. But then again, the Clippers might still think that Kawhi can be their franchise player, hence they keep on extending him with huge contract while letting go of Paul George.

But with all the drama right now, all eyes are on the Kawhi and what if the investigations find him guilty? What will happen to his career? Maybe there will teams that are going to pick him up, but the damage and then him no longer in his prime might be a big hindrance for him to get another great contract.
