Most people i know who mismanage their finances are likely those who have less money before, they are overwhelm by the success and forget that its just temporary, they are like one time millionaire, while its always the situation, those who can control impulse and have future plans, have higher chances to become more successful not because they know what will happen but have people around them who cares for them, but some also is also there to use them and left them when they have nothing, and turn out to be the rich.

I agree, as they think that the opportunity will stay they forgot to value the fortune that they've gained, and most of them thinks for luxuries before thinking of investment or business that may continue the flow, same deal with those players who comes out from nothing and when the chance to change their fortune they think it will never stop, but along the way contracts expired and nothing left for them but thos expense that they need to shoulder.

But for Delonte West, yeah, could be one of the worst for a NBA player. Videos of him years ago circulating that he is living in the street. The bad thing is that he only has some mental problems and that could really attributed on him declining and life making a U-turn after his NBA career.

As far as I know, a few years ago, Mark Cuban attempted to assist West by covering the costs of his treatment at a rehabilitation center and even providing him with housing. However, it seems that this was useless, since last year West once again created a lot of problems for himself. I think he's hopeless now.

If the person himself doesn't want to change, then it's very hard for him. Even with outside help, it can't be done, it should really start from within. It's good that others are willing to help him maybe because they might have cross path with West in the past.

I also remember Lamar Odom who might have lost a lot of money as well and went into depression and it was reported that the late Kobe Bryant bail him out from his debts and loan and the Mamba was the one who paid everything in his behalf does why we see him being emotional when the news of Kobe's accident went public.

Wealth management is a big factor for those professionals, I hope everyone in the league or out learned their lessons and will make sure of their future even if they go out of the PRO.

Lamar Odom was addicted to gambling or bar and girls? I hope he is doing well now, Mamba is one of the most generous and kind player in NBA.
Lamar odom journey as a player is from great to worse, right now lamar odom after being evicted in a rented house, he is trying to be in the right track and is starting an academy, he has some money left, but for sure this is his last shot to be in a better spot, hopefully he will not return to his old habits and stay away from girls like what happen to him before, also gambling, if not then he will eventually end in the streets.

I was not aware of Odom's gambling addiction so I have to research and yes he is as he admitted on this interview. We already know about the Kardashians, but girls and then gambling addiction, that combination will ruined everyone.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tatk78b8-SQ

But thanks to Mamba, he was able to save Odom from total self-destruct and we really don't know what will happen to him if Kobe didn't intervene in his life. He owes to Kobe and how many more did Kobe help out when he was still alive?

You can read his rise, fall and recovery in this article https://yen.com.gh/facts-lifehacks/biographies/288334-lamar-odom-net-worth-rise-fall-recovery-a-basketball-legend/

And so far its great to see that Odom is doing well in life now after he suffer from major seat backs on his career.

For sure he learn a lot from his past mistake and correct those things since for sure he don't want to get broke anymore. He's having good now in showbiz scene and this is good since somehow with that this could help on his full recovery.

Lamar Odom is lucky to be alive. After his time with the Kardashians the guy got addicted to drugs and hookers and was legally dead many times before doctors were able to stabilize him. It really is nothing short of a miracle that he is still alive and he does owe payment of those medical debts to Kobe Bryant.

Not everyone who earns a lot of money makes good investments. There are NBA players who made a fortune yet went bankrupt, even ending up on the streets. The first ones that come to my mind are Delonte West and Antoine Walker. They had solid careers, but that doesn't mean they could hold onto the fortune they earned from the NBA. The last time I saw Delonte West, he was in a pretty bad state. So, just as there are good examples, there are also bad ones. Right now, NBA players are signing incredible contracts and many of them don't even live up to those deals. Among them, there will also be players who will go bankrupt in the future due to bad investments.
I remember Delonte, he's one of the guys that has ended up badly after having a successful career in the NBA. It's all about lifestyle and how they have handled their finances. People like him that the spotlight and lime career during his stay in the NBA will never be gone. I also remember Allen Iverson barely recover from his financial problem. And that's another fact you've said, while we're not wishing that there will be another bad story in the after-NBA career but it's very likely that one star on this era will end up badly if they don't become wise with their money.

This guy ended up on the street, and many others as well, because they went bankrupt. In most cases, it all points to addiction // first drugs, then gambling. Not everyone knows how to manage their finances. when you’re earning millions, you start spending like you have financial freedom. But since money isn’t infinite, and once it stops coming in, that’s when the problems start.

While they’re busy earning and spending, they forget to keep themselves in shape. That’s a huge risk, because even if they have talent, their game will deteriorate, and they might not get another contract. It’s sad to see this happening but it’s happening.

You know, it's getting worse now. Players are getting caught up in plenty of negative and illegal activities while they are still actively playing in the NBA. People like Delonte suffered the consequences of their actions after they got out of the league, if I'm not mistaken.
Some have even been caught in possession of illegal drugs. I don't know if it's part of being young and dumb, but LeBron did a very outstanding job on and off the court, and what's really impressive about him is that he grew up without a father.

Being wasteful with what they've earned from the league put them into that situation. Addiction in drugs and gambling really turned their worlds upside down. That's why even the old timers in the league and still keeping themselves in shape, they know that they have to protect their body and as well as the future that awaits them when they're done with the NBA. The NBA really needs to step on this one and make a program to teach these players how to be financially wise.

Sometimes you need a wake up call to be able to see an issue. He probably did not face any trouble while he was partying and "having fun", and because nothing went wrong, he didn't felt the need to stop, which take him further and further. That horrible incident made him realize that he wasn't doing that great, and because of that he realized there is a sudden need to stop.

It's great to see him recover, and doing better, and getting his peace. He could have been richer too, if it wasn't for that previous part of his life, but at least he is back now and doing great. Many players like that who go see the bottom first. Famously Allen Iverson was even one of them, saw the bottom too, but then he recovered, got smart about it, and recovered, now he is doing better.

Yes, it was really a wake up call for him and be able to see that something is not right for him that time. And maybe he just surround himself with the wrong people that's why he was influence in not a right way. Good thing he recovers and hopefully he already learn from his mistakes and those new players who have seen him and others life turning into upside down after their NBA career, will not follow it.

Not much news on the trade with Kuminga, still very silent and it means that he might have to play with the Warriors this season. Only news that I saw is Free agent forward Javonte Green is finalizing a one-year deal with the Detroit Pistons.

Yup, good thing that the Mamba catch him up and help him to recover, now that he's doing well might be possible that he take it as a hard learning process, what it important now is he can move forward and value what he got now, there's always another chance if you know how to value the opportunity and better to learn from that previous mistakes and make sure to avoid repeating the same thing as it would be difficult finding yourself in that same situation and no one is willing to pick you up to help.

Michael Porter Jr gave an interview (with Stevewilldoit’s old assistant turned nelkboy) where he talked a lot about sports gambling, named a lot of names, and explained why they do it. Here’s a clip of the interview on X, or you can catch the whole thing on YouTube (one night with steiny).

Delonte West really is a prime example of how you can lose control despite having it all. Guy got money, a career, even supposedly slept with Lebron's mum  Grin , and what is he now, a street bum. So sad, especially considering how many people tried to help him. When the news first came out about his downfall Marc Cuban helped him, checked him into rehab and everything looked promising. Then he even tried to get a spot in the Big3 league participating in a tryout (can be seen on youtube). Well, it all went bad again and he is back on the streets now, stoned out of his mind and looking worse than ever. Such a sad example.
Man, I don't know about that gossip and first time hearing that from you.  Cheesy
Too many help he's got to get back on his feet but none of those were able to help him to stand up again. The guy doesn't have control and regardless of how many help he's got, he just want to get back to the streets and become a bum again. Poor guy, there are many big guys willing to help him out but if it's too much, they won't help again if there is no develop seen. So close yet, wasted opportunities.

Lakers are building not a bad team at all. Marcus Smart and Ayton joined this season, they already had Lebron and Doncic. They also have not bad rotation players around them, Hayes, Reaves, Rui, these are all decent level players. I am not entirely sure how great Lebron can be this season, or how they will make it work with Doncic, but I think they have what they need from both guards and bigs now.

Marcus Smart and Reaves at guard, Hayes and Ayton at bigs, with Doncic and Lebron at wings, with Rui helping out? That feels like a team that should be able to have a good deep playoff run at least. I can't of course know what's going to happen, but it feels like that could be working out properly for them. It is not going to be like last year, they can definitely make it work better this year.

This is true, Lakers now is better that last year. I can see that they can do better and rotate moe.
BUT, they need to move more, they need additional or exchanges. They are stronger now but not enough.
Lebron still good and numbers wont lie, but as year goes by and he become older, he is slowing, Luka will be better this year and the chemistry of theteam.

Yes, one complain that we have against the Lakers is that they don't have a good center. AD is not a true center by definition and during his time with the Lakes he complain about it until they trade him. Now, they have Ayton now, at least they have a solid center in him and then have a back up in the young and athletic Jaxson Hayes. They also added Marcus Smart, I think his role will still be focusing on defense, as we all know that he is one great defender.

In the wings in will be Reaves and then Doncic. Rui had a good season last year, but it was enough. I think he needs to step up and really blossom into a great contributor. But other teams have also deepen their roster so next season will be very competitive in the West.

"I need 5 points from you." Damn, I didn't know they could hear those things on the sidelines. I do this, but only while watching PPV. I hope the NBA will not allow this kind of thing to happen inside the court. Keep gambling out of the game while they are playing so that it won't even urge anyone to do the same. I mean, it could minimize the number of players or their relatives betting on themselves or making their family place a bet for them.

I don't know if they are strict about the rules of no gambling even to the close relatives of the players, but I bet there are still some who are getting away with it.

NBA has strict rules towards gambling and this article has breakdown of those things https://en.as.com/nba/what-are-the-nba-rules-regarding-gambling-n/

They prohibit this and there are several players got harsh penalties for participating in this activities. What's so bad about it is even some players now the rules they still sneak and try to bet on live games and now they suffer those consequences of the bad decisions they have done.

Also there's no rules regarding on close relatives to prohibit them from betting but if there are controversy and they are known link on those situation then they are subject for further investigation.
