It is better for the Ethereum to be a tool for smart contract platform, not a tool for speculation. If it is less volatile, people will use it.

If the DAO will be closed soon, would would anybody buy  it? The only value left for the DAO is speculation now.

I think Ethereum only survived this disaster (for now) because of the miners support, it should be $4-5 or even less.

What makes you say that? If miners go out of business, other miners take over. Difficulty can go down again if not enough blocks are found. Miners are just competing to find blocks, there is no reason for all of the to quit at the same time.

Yeah i think this whole miners stopping mining is irrelevant . If all the top miners stop mining then after a while the difficulty is going to drop back down and all the home miners are going to jump back on the bandwagon, When this happens your then going to get bigger miners mining again and then before we know it were back at full mining potential.

When you have Chinese mining farms getting cheap electricity from Hydroelectric dams built in the middle of nowhere, I do not think you will need to worry about the halving substantially causing the Bitcoin network to grind down to a crawl. Also, I am sure Bitmain has not shown us their full strength with the new S9 miners. Look for Antpool to become even more of a powerhouse soon after halving.

The mining-halt argument is based on the fact that it takes 2016 blocks (about 2 weeks normally) for difficulty to change. If income were to drop sufficiently, then miners would drop out, which would slow block times, which would lead to lower income, more miners dropping out, lower incomes still, etc, in a vicious cycle that would drop hashrate to zero before the network had chance to retarget.

I don't consider it a threat. Some of the big Chinese miners are running at near-zero running costs, as mentioned, plus miners with higher costs can do what miners in the real world do and hedge their output. Furthermore, by my calculation, there are only 1344 blocks after the halving before difficulty is retargetted.

For now, I think it is still risky to invest in Ethereum after the sudden decrease in prices that occurred.
We'll see if the prices continue to decrease or increase, but I will not be investing for a while.
