The wallet crashed when I use the old(Qora-V7 at May 2014) wallet directory to replace the new wallet. So how can I get back my wallet? Actually, right now I just have the wallet files, but I forgot the seed. PS. I remembered the password.
Make sure you save your wallet at a safe place. You can then try to make a fresh install of the new version, and just copy the wallet into your installation dir (universal version) and try to start form scratch. That should work. I use version Qora_v0.25.1.zip. After sync, I deleted the wallet directory, and then put the old wallet directory there, and can't start it successfully. So I deleted the data directory, restart it again, however, it failed too. You can also try to run the old version and recover your seed using the console http://api.qora.org/#seed

ATFunding asset was created to fund CIYAM developers for implementing AT and ACCT between Qora AND BURST . Any considerations rewarding some of Qora clone coins to these people who supported AT implementation from the begining ?
Although no such details have even yet been discussed it is likely that offers for initial minting accounts would be taking that into consideration (ability to run a node 24x7 will be a key factor also). Also note that any "coins" that comes from blocks that I personally mint in such a clone will be donated back to other minters (probably via an infinite loop AT or maybe an AT that results in some sort of random extra minting reward).

Hi all,
Can one of you tell me how to backup my wallet in a secure manner ? Is backing up the wallet folder enough or is backing up the seed enough ? What's the best practice according to you guys.
I want to store everything offline preferrably on an encrypted memory stick.
What are your recommendations.
Thanks.

You only have to keep the master seed somewhere safe. Maybe on a piece of paper. You can get the master seed from there: http://127.0.0.1:9085/wallet/seed

The good thing about Qora is that everything is stored on Blockchain, so nothing will ever be lost, and no backup is needed. As vbcs has already mentioned, all you need is the "seed" and the "password" that go along with it, then you will be able to recover all your wallets & accounts on any computer/device you wish. PS: You can do an experiment yourself, on a 2nd computer, download the qora client, enter your seed, and enter the number of wallets you had created (all your wallets with funds in them), let the client sync... as soon as it finishes syncing, all your funds should be available for your use.

Just a note - the password is only used to encrypt the local wallet folder so you dont have to keep it. When restoring from seed you can choose whatever password you like.

Although perhaps unknown to many on this forum the CIYAM Developers have been developing a new kind of blockchain technology for the last couple of years (it isn't ready for use yet but is getting close to completion).
As the CIYAM Developers have been involved with Qora for some time we are now considering the idea of perhaps creating a clone of Qora that works using the principles of the CIYAM blockchain (which is not POS but instead a POW for account creation that then works on hash-chains for block creation) as a trial of the concept.
The final CIYAM blockchain won't be a coin and if this Qora clone is actually created then it won't be owned or controlled by CIYAM but instead according to rules that will be part of the coin's creation (perhaps involving those Qora holders prior to the block that was published before this post).
Such a clone would of course support AT and ACCT between Qora and itself (and Burst) so IMO it should actually help both Qora and Burst.
Also to perhaps put things in perspective (as to why I am suggesting a clone) please research Diaspora (which was a failed attempt at a decentralised social network). IMO you can't charge people to create blogs or web pages (as it will never take off) so you need a way that allows that to be free (which requires controlling the amount of accounts that can be created to avoid attacks).
I wonder if all the people buying Qora in the last few days noticed the small print, ' Qora holders prior to the block that was published before this post'

I've been asked by a few forum members about how a Qora fork would differ from Qora itself and I think that is a very important point to consider (as to whether this should be supported or not and I'm not going to be pushing for this but just providing some ideas).
My thinking is along the lines of perhaps addressing the gap that was left after the basic failure of the Diaspora project (so maybe have the focus being on the "social network" aspect).
IMO charging fees for posting blog entries isn't going to work so the fork would be support a different approach that would allow blog entries to be created without fees (anti-spamming would be handled in another way). The concept of private blogs (with subscriptions being controlled by the creator) is something I think would be useful to add.
Also I think it would be nice to have a decentralised forum - so that might be another key aspect.
I also don't think that such a fork would bother with Assets or Names and its voting system would be according to minting accounts rather than POS (so it should end up being quite a different beast).
Having read this makes me think it would be much better to improve qora rather than fork it for a new project, even though some of the features you would like to adopt may not be able to be implemented with the current qora chain (not sure). Part of me thinks this because I would rather see development continue on qora without diluting the talent. Also, I don't think a small fee (what is it, 1 qora) for a blog post is more than people are willing to contribute. At the same time, of course qora is open source, and you can do what you want. I think you would also likely have an automatic community built in if you distributed based on the "snapshot" of qora holders.

Can CIYAM confirm whether his new blockchain project would even work with PoS or not? My understanding was account creation requires PoW to avoid spam, but after that the new blockchain doesn't require a coin to function (i.e. the reference to Diaspora project requiring users to pay which isn't good for adoption) As the CIYAM Developers have been involved with Qora for some time we are now considering the idea of perhaps creating a clone of Qora that works using the principles of the CIYAM blockchain (which is not POS but instead a POW for account creation that then works on hash-chains for block creation) as a trial of the concept.

In regards to the development talent unfortunately one of the main developers (@agran) is already leaving the project and @vbcs has been primarily a CIYAM developer since starting work on AT (well before AT was added to Qora).
IMO if he is working on a clone of the Qora project then actually it should benefit Qora as he will become more familiar with the source code and be able to contribute more to the project.
From what I gather it was actually the vision of @Vrontis to split Qora into several blockchains that each specialised in one area (in this case the social network area) but if the community is going to become divided over this then we won't pursue it.
The intention behind this idea is to eventually have numerous blockchains that all specialise in different things but can be bound together with AT being the "glue" (and ACCT for moving coins between them).

Good news! Qora is about to have a new developer joining the dev team (someone who has been contributing to qora code base and providing important consultation in the past). I'm going to confirm all the details before making an announcement. Ciao!

He has been online and checking his PMs in the past couple days. I was hoping to get in touch with him and convince him to come back as a consultant. However, the developer I was referring to was not the original Qora dev. That developer is very enthusiastic about Qora and has agreed to join Qora's dev team. I just wanted to send words to all involved parties and notified everyone before formally announcing his involvement. I believe his joining is critical to the success of this project, and is absolutely necessary if we want to take this project to the next level.

Don't get your hopes up because it's a long-shot. I was just hoping that (original) Qora dev would somehow provide consultation and offer advice to the dev team since he's the most valuable asset there is. He's an extremely busy man, and I am not so sure he would agree to make code contribution in any form. In case you haven't read this, this is original Qora dev's code repository: https://github.com/razakal/Qorayes! I am sure you will love the new guy! I don't want to say anything yet because I want to get more profile information (stuffs he had worked in the past.. credential.. etc) before I release anything. Stay tuned!

Important Announcement: Poll created for Qora's Potential Involvement in Microsoft Azure BaaS ProgramPlease be advised that a poll has been created by Skerberus in regard to Qora's involvement in Microsoft's Azure Blockchain As a Service Program (BaaS). This will most likely affect the value of your investment, so we'd highly encourage the whole community to participate! The outcome of this poll will decide whether we will apply to join the program or not. Azure Poll (You can access the decentralized voting system inside your Qora client by going to the Voting tab): http://qora.co.in:9090/index/blockexplorer.html?poll=%20do%20you%20want%20qora%20to%20join%20microsoft%20azure%20baas%3FIn a nutshell, MS Azure BaaS platform is the cloud computing/deployment platform designed specifically for blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) purpose. By deploying the blockchain on Azure, it would be easier for potential developers and companies to interact and experiment with the blockchain, and create custom apps on top of the platform using existing MS technologies. PROs:1. By joining the program, we will be able to reach institutions and enterprises (banks, accounting firms.. etc) who otherwise will not be interested in learning and working with Qora. In other words, we will be able to reach audience outside of current Crypto community. 2. Microsoft will soon offer "Azure Blockchain Marketplace" with rigorous certification process (security vetting conducted by Microsoft). This is the kind of recognition we need. 3. Azure has tools that'll make building/deploying new Blockchain technologies much easier: check out https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/devtest-lab/4. Developers with no previous exposure to Crytocurrency and Blockchain Technologies will be able to interact/experiment with Qora utilizing existing Microsoft Technologies. 5. Big-name coins like Ethereum are already on it. CONs:1. Because of copyright and patent agreements that must be signed as part of the application process, NO Clones of qora or any derivative works based on Qora can be made. For those of you who wish to be part of CIYAM's new Blockchain, you will be disppointed. 2. A licensing contract that involves patent and distribution rights has to be signed before being accepted into the program. 3. The contract cannot be annulled once joined. --------------------------------------------------- The Poll will run for 2 weeks and close on April 15th. Feel free to add to my list of Pros and Cons as you see fit. Happy Voting!

ONE thing additional: Qora could chain to azure any time later - but cannot leave azure once joined, if I understand right! Maybe it's better to wait!? Apparently NEM decided to join the Microsoft Azure program, but avoided signing a licensing contract that involves patent and distribution rights by paying to join Azure. Could the Qora community also consider paying to join the Microsoft Azure program, and avoid losing the rights to the software like NEM? How much would it cost to pay to to join? It's another option we might consider and vote on. ... FYI
From the New Economy Movement blog ( http://blog.nem.io/status-on-the-azure-project/): Status on The Azure Project 29 Mar 2016
The tech team, rb2 and Patmst3r, worked hard in getting NEM into a docker for Azure. In case some of you who may not know Azure, it is a Microsoft cloud computing platform and infrastructure. Recently, some months ago, Microsoft opened up Azure for crypto projects to place their solutions there in the cloud repository so that testers are able to download and testbed these initiatives from one location. We spent a considerable amount of time getting this done. Unfortunately, at the last stage of our submission we were shown the agreement. In the agreement, to put our solution up there, requires us to give away all our rights. This is not quite palatable. This article has been pretty explicit:
http://bitcoinist.net/microsoft-bullies-open-source-is-the-blockchain-their-next-target/
The agreement which is publicly available for us to peruse by Microsoft, confirms it:
http://windowsazure.github.io/docs/Contribution%20License%20Agreement.pdf
Having given it due consideration and thoughts, we have decided that NEM should be independent. Instead, we are proposing to still put it on Azure as a docker but we pay for it. By paying for it, we are assuming to be a customer of MS instead. In doing so, we are free from losing our rights as well as still prove that we are able to put it on the Azure cloud and allow testers to work on our solution without NEM losing any rights at all. In short, putting the NEM docker on Azure, in our opinion, is nothing more than making it simpler to install, vis-à-vis via Github. Putting it on Azure also extends our solution to making it available to people who are familiar with the MS service platform.
NEM does not believe that it should lose its rights to anyone, not in the very spirit of how crypto projects are founded upon. On that basis, NEM would like to announce that it has no intention to get itself listed in Azure for free like the rest of the other projects, unless MS waives that agreement, for which if they are sincere, they should. Instead NEM will investigate a paid addition to Azure, achieving the same goal for a cost but keeping our full rights.
