I think we should compromise and pay the $13 a month to get on Azure without signing a license so CIYAM continues to contribute to Qora. If we decide to join Azure we should all vote on whether to join for free, or pay the $13 a month to avoid signing Microsoft licenses here.

I'm no legal expert, but I briefly researched free software licensing and it appears that GNU says Qora's MIT license does not protect users from patent treachery. GNU recommends the Apache 2.0 license since it blocks patent treachery.

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.en.html

Quote
X11 License (#X11License)

..This license is sometimes called the MIT license, but that term is misleading, since MIT has used many licenses for software.

This is a fine license for a small program. A larger program usually ought to be copyleft; but if you are set on a lax permissive license for one, we recommend the Apache 2.0 license since it protects users from patent treachery.

Quote
Expat License (#Expat)

This is a lax, permissive non-copyleft free software license, compatible with the GNU GPL. It is sometimes ambiguously referred to as the MIT License.

For substantial programs it is better to use the Apache 2.0 license since it blocks patent treachery.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_License

Quote
Like the BSD license the MIT license does not include an express patent license. Both the BSD and the MIT licenses were drafted before the patentability of software was generally recognized under US law.

I couldn't find any tests of free software licenses in court, the GPL's first big test case against VMware is still ongoing. There don't appear to be any big test cases that set a legal precedent for free software licenses yet.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/01/vmwares_gpl_violation_case_rolls_into_german_court/

Quote
A May resolution is a very optimistic outcome, as the court gave VMware and Hellwig until April 15th to submit further arguments. May 16th has been set as a day for a decision to be delivered, but only if the court feels it has all the information it needs to do so before that date. With the court saying it has only a basic understanding of the issues at stake, quick resolution without recourse to witnesses and experts appears unlikely.

Couldn't we all compromise and pay the $13 a month to get on Azure without having to sign licensing agreements with Microsoft? That way we get the best of both worlds, Qora gets onto Azure, and CIYAM keeps contributing.

Afaik there is no paying $13 a month to get on Azure without signing licensing agreements. Could you point me to where that is offered on Azure's website? I know some NEM folk have mentioned it, but also afaik NEM isn't on Azure period, paying $13 a month or not.

This page says it costs ~$13.392/month to join for the cheapest subscription price, although there is tiered pricing all the way up to ~$725.4/month.

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/marketplace/partners/docker/docker-subscription-for-azure/

We could easily crowdfund the $13.392/month subscription.

I see, thanks. It's not clear that hosting your own docker is enough to get you listed on Microsoft's blog as a partner or whatever, which quite frankly seems to be the whole point of this exercise - get a little free publicity rather than actually having an easily deployable Azure instance. Did NEM actually do this? It seems they are still mulling it over. Maybe because if they do it this way then there's no free publicity about how they're "partnering with Microsoft" and so it's not even worth the bother?

I just saw this in the NEM thread; you guys should read it:

@ Jabo38: Did you receive an answer from Microsoft?

Wasn´t there two Lawyers who should be conferenced with to find out what this Contract actually says?

A professional lawyer has written us back. It is good that we took a moment to hesitate.

He interprets the agreement with a wide scope that throws the burden on the submitter on any IP owned by third parties which is used when the submitter allows the submission to be applied by Microsoft.

This doesn't mean we can't be on the store, but that we should be careful when applying.

So the skeptical majority definitely has a point.

Generated blocks keeps blanc

I run 0.25.1 version and use it in Linux Ubuntu.

A big big thanks to every body involved and taking the time to seriously think over and weigh the odds in this whole voting process. It is quite frankly a liberating process for me since the foundation of this process is intact as it should be. Again, from the very first developer to all further involved developers and to the community as a whole, thank you. Long Live Qora!!  Cool

Hi there i had a similar problem another day and i had not found the solutions in anyplace, today i finally found and you can try my solution if you want.

All you have to do is delete your wallet.dat or copy to another place in case of any problem, reinstall qora wallet and when run, the qora wallet is going to ask if you want to create a new wallet or recover the old one, try to recover the old one by tiping your "seed hash" code. this solutions worked for me

sorry my bad english

Thanks, but I had to do something different. Its working for me now. I got the answer from here;
https://qoracommunity.slack.com/

What I had to do is to deposit some qora into my wallet. That part I was missing.
Then I had to register a username for the network.

Done that and now I am participating as a peer Wink

I have a few questions:

Hi xyz,

In response to your questions:

1. It is my personal belief that going forward, we should do things the "democratic way" in order to encourage members participation, spur discussions, and foster a stronger sense of community.  Since both me and Skerberus had already come out and stated publicly that the team would respect the community's decision, I feel it would be inappropriate for any member of the dev team to make their position known at this point (as not to influence other members' thinking).

If you feel strongly about something, or if you really want something get done so badly, you can certainly lobby for votes and support.  Smiley  Feel free to use this thread as the forum to sway public opinion and solicit votes.  Smiley

I'd just like to say that, personally, I really enjoy the discussion that has taken place in the past couple days. I find it both enlightening and refreshing. I think we should do it more often.  Grin

2. If anyone feels that there's any Qora-related issue we should discuss or even put to vote, feel free to set up a poll and state your case in this thread.  Grin  Or if you like, you can let me know, and I'll make an announcement or even write up a beautiful post for you.  Cheesy Cheesy

3. Both CIYAM and vbcs are valuable members of Qora community, and they'll definitely continue to be members of Team Qora.  I've been in contact with CIYAM, and he had shared some of his visions for Qora with me.  One thing I can say for certain is this: there's definitely some exciting development going on, and great things are coming!  Smiley

Okay, that's all I want to say for now~

I agree, Qora community is small but quite thoughtful and focused on the issues. We have shown remarkable resilience over the bear market of 2014-15, and as we approach our 2nd birthday I'm feeling very positive for the future. Great tech, great devs, and maybe one of the best decentralized power structures too. I don't feel influence and decision making authority is concentrated anywhere in particular. That's very healthy!

I have a few questions:

2. Has the departure of 2 members (in the last weeks or month) from the Qora team something to do with different opinions over azure?

I have stepped in into this project, trying to save it and I took everything on my hands.
I had several ideas and visions for this and luckily, as I said, due to the work made by the qora team, Qora became powerful enough.
But unfortunately the majority of users was not here.
And I've been tired trying to save Qora, trying to save your money's value, trying to save the decentralization idea that Qora represents with its features.
At the same time, I have a real life, I need to work, I need to take care of my self a little bit, I have priorities.
Unfortunately I've met a dead end, so I decided to stop everything I am doing for Qora as because I have been heavily involved for "really" no reason.
Ideas are wonderful guys, but reality is hard.Nothing can be achieved without the proper support.
I've been supported by CIYAM and Qora team and you still have Qora alive. Now you have to support them to keep the idea - and your money - alive.

Cheers
Vrontis

Vrontis can we do anything to get you again in our community?
We need you!!!

I understand that you don't want to do a lot of work for nothing.
We had an AT fund for the CIYAM team.
To ALL believer in Qora here: can we make a similar fund for our Qora team?
Maybe not only @vrontis but @agran, too, would join again. And who know, maybe @Qora himself too...

What can the community do to help Vrontis?

These issues currently dominating NXT forum too (how to stay decentralised but raise sufficient money to support people working for little reward).

One suggestion in NXT, create 'the RedHat of NXT'. Could similar be possible with Qora? Create a 'business' that generates revenue fom user support etc, and then use some of that funding to help keep Qora development alive and decentralised.

The answer to being able to keep things decentralised is the essence of P2P itself.

You need to find something that enough people are going to want to use to expand the user-base so that you have enough nodes to keep it decentralised.

The best examples we have so far are BitTorrent and Bitcoin (but obviously we need something different to those).

IMO some features that @Vrontis added to Qora (the decentralised web and blogging) might hold the key, however, the way that it is currently being done isn't working.

With CIYAM anyone can create 100% generated C++ web applications in literally minutes.

Yes, we need AT between Qora and Bitcoin! Wink

To have more than 50% of our Qora at Poloniex and Bter is very bad. We should find something SOON that people want to have their funds in their own wallet!!

That we can do (and @vbcs is currently working on that) in terms of ACCT.

The plan is to actually have Qora have its own Bitcoin wallet and be able to do ACCT between itself and Bitcoin (without any 3rd party exchange).

AFAIA we are the first to be working on this (and it should be ready in a couple of months assuming everything goes well).

I agree we need to 'find something that enough people are going to want to use to expand the user-base', but somewhere along the line the users have to contribute some funds (donations or payments). BitTorrent and Bitcoin are great examples where people are motivated to run P2P nodes, but how well have they done at paying developers and supporting things like marketing? A "RedHat of Qora" might be able to help with that, but it isn't an easy thing to setup.

A good example might be how some universities have 'tried' to commercialize some research they do. Those funds can then go back into consolidated revenue which can support other areas that have no monetisation possibilities. Basically there's an attempt to cross-subsidise things that need to be done but don't generate any revenue (like pure science) with things that can generate revenue (like a commercialised application or product). I think eventually crypto funding model needs something similar, and maybe the Linux ecosystem is a good place to look for inspiration.

People working without payment for too long isn't sustainable

Hi, is anyone here having withdrawal problem from bter exchange?

I've withdraw my qora 1 week ago but still not process it yet.

There are plenty of people having problems with Bter! I suggest to avoid using BTER and use CCEDK and Poloniex instead!

I can confirm it, i'm missing a nice amount of Qora since 1 year, i wrote several times to the support, but obviously they are not able or willing to fix it.

update: just thought some days ago, i should write a support ticket again and wow they fixed it, all is perfect.

there is always a light at the end of the tunnel...
